The main house is <a href="https://www.latimes.com/business/real-estate/story/2021-10-20/offers-due-on-halloween-for-l-a-s-famous-nightmare-on-elm-street-house">known to fans of "A Nightmare On Elm Street,"</a> a seminal 1984 horror movie. The official description for the home says that "cinephiles will immediately recognize Wes Craven's iconic Elm Street facade." </p><p>But Burnham's special is a more contemporary visual reference that fans can't miss.</p><h2>For people who have watched Burnham's 'Inside,' the guest house in the backyard is a more recognizable landmark</h2><div type="image" title="A side by side image of writer-director Bo Burnham in &quot;Inside&quot; and a real estate photo of the guest house where the special was filmed." height="900" width="1200" msid="87213416" hostid="261"></div><p>Photos of the guest house (provided to Insider by Douglas Elliman) show the structure's distinctive arched divider between a small living space and the kitchenette. Heather T. Roy and Learka Bosnak of Douglas Elliman Real Estate are listing the house, and said in a statement provided to Insider that offers for the property can be accepted on or before midnight on October 31. </p><p>Burnham and Scafaria began dating around the same time she purchased the house. The couple has kept their relationship very private, only occasionally referencing one another on social media or at awards ceremonies.</p><p>The credits for "Inside" say the special was "recorded live in Bo Burnham's house." The next, and final, title card says: "For Lor, for everything."</p>

Guests enter through a pink tunnel modeled after his mother's birth canal and are promised a visit from the Tiny Wu-Tang (and, in predictable "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0FLvLHveBo">No. 1 boy</a>" fashion, a live vocal performance of Billy Joel's "Honesty").</p><p>Even though Kendall pulls out of a stunt to fly through the air before landing on a massive wooden cross, Strong was still left wearing a leg brace after filming the episode. </p><p>While rehearsing the scene in which Kendall plans out his rendition of Joel's 1978 ballad, Strong told The New Yorker he experienced a pang of "exultant anticipation" that led him to leap off the five-foot-high stage wearing Gucci shoes. </p><p>"I jumped off a stage, thinking I could fly, but it turns out I can't," said the actor, who employs a process he calls "identity diffusion," similar to method acting, to become Kendall.</p><p>The Emmy winner added that the leap "made sense in the moment," however his footwear proved unconducive to a high-impact landing. Strong injured his femur and tibia, and the jump didn't make it into the show's final cut, he told The New Yorker. </p><p>It also wasn't the first time Strong said he hurt himself on set. He previously fractured his left foot as a result of running in Tom Ford dress shoes on a season one episode in which Kendall was late for a board meeting, he told the publication. </p><div type="image" title="kendall roy birthday party" height="1611" width="2148" msid="88133561" hostid="261"></div><p>Lorene Scafaria, the director of "Too Much Birthday," praised Strong's devotion to his craft after working closely with him on the episode.</p><p>In an interview with <a href="https://www.vulture.com/article/lorene-scafaria-succession-season-3-episode-7-interview.html">New York Magazine's Vulture</a>, she said he's "one of those very special actors who's so in touch with himself and so honest and truthful that he can make a likable character out of this very complicated, half unlovable person who has a moral center but is completely out of touch with the real world."</p><p>Because The Shed features eight levels at its base, Scafaria knew that she had a lot of space, in addition to a lot of characters, to work with on episode seven. She collaborated with production designer Stephen Carter to pull together some of Kendall's more absurd requests. </p><div type="image" title="kendall roy" height="1280" width="1920" msid="88133562" hostid="261"></div><p>"We knew Kendall would absolutely demand that every detail of the party express his view of himself, even when it came to the music playing. When we were setting it all up, we got to ask questions like, 'What's Kendall's taste like? What vibe is he trying to get from the crowd here? What seeds has he planted? What tiny little traps has he tried to set that maybe no one will see?'" she recalled.</p><p>And in Scafaria's mind, Kendall was too occupied with taking the temperature of others' opinions of him to enjoy the celebration.</p><p>"I liked to think that maybe Kendall didn't even get to do a final run-through himself because he was too busy," she said, adding, "Jeremy Strong and I were born the same year, so there was something lovely about us throwing this party together."</p>

Early in the movie, before the characters played by Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu turn to drugging unsuspecting Wall Street suits, they are instead just stripping for them. And there's a moment when Scafaria shows just how much money was being thrown around before the financial collapse.</p><p>During another full night at the club, things get turned up a notch when Usher enters. First, we see the women backstage going crazy when they hear he's arrived, and then, as they all scurry to the stage, Scafaria cuts to a shot of the real Usher walking in to his hit 2008 single, "Love in This Club."</p><p>Suddenly women are all around him and the famous R&amp;B singer - sporting a cap, jacket, and sunglasses - is throwing dollar bills in the air to their delight.</p><p>Scafaria said getting to Usher wasn't the big challenge, thanks to star Jennifer Lopez. And the hat, jacket, and sunglasses he has on in the scene were not the movie's wardrobe: that's what he had on when he showed up to set.&#xa0;</p><p>"The girls knew he was coming," Scafaria said. "Everybody knew it was Usher day and they were very excited."</p><p>The Usher cameo comes at the portion of the movie that shows the women at their height. After that, the financial crisis hits and they try to figure out how to continue to make money. For Scafaria, the Usher scene is the perfect note to end on for that part of the movie.</p><p>"That was honestly one of the highlights of my life seeing all the girls on stage together," Scafaria said. "It felt like a Renaissance painting when we shot it. It brought tears to my eyes. The director of 'Hustlers' said the movie's superstar cameo brought tears to her eyes while filming it

And, once again, no women were nominated for best director - not even Greta Gerwig, whose update of the literary classic "Little Women" scored a best-picture nomination.</p><p>The snubs sparked controversy over the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - the Oscars voting body - overlooking women and people of color (Cynthia Erivo was the only acting nominee of color, in lead actress for "Harriet").</p><p>But while the omissions were glaring, the future is still bright for Hollywood.</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5d72c0c92e22af1d545493a4-1200/hustlersstxfilms.jpg" alt="hustlers_stxfilms" /><p class="source"><span>STX</span></p><p class="caption">Jennifer Lopez in "Hustlers."</p><p>Why? Hollywood is still a land ruled by the box office, and those aforementioned snubbed movies were <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/surprise-box-office-hit-movies-of-the-year-2019-12">some of the biggest breakouts of 2019</a>.</p><ul><li>"Us," Peele's followup to "Get Out," was the highest-grossing original movie of 2019 in the US, with $192 million domestically. It earned $255 million worldwide off of a $20 million production budget.</li><li>"Hustlers," directed by Lorene Scafaria, scored $157 million worldwide and was made for $20 million. It's the rare non-franchise movie to gross over $100 million in the US.</li><li>"The Farewell" was produced for just $4 million and made nearly $20 million.</li><li>And "Little Women" is surging at the box office. It's made $75 million domestically and over $100 million globally. It was made for $40 million and its will surely get a boost from its Oscar nominations.</li></ul><p>Their success not only suggests a bright future for the filmmakers - all of whom are women or people of color - but that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mid-budget-movies-are-not-dead-opinion-2019-11">low-to-mid-budget, non-franchise movies are still alive and well</a>. Other snubbed films - like the anxiety-inducing "Uncut Gems," starring Adam Sandler, and Rian Johnson's murder-mystery, "Knives Out" - are also examples of this.</p><p>"Uncut Gems" was completely shut out despite critics raving about Sandler's performance and "Knives Out" only managed a screenplay nod, even though it was in the best-picture conversation. But the former has grossed $43 million and is on its way to becoming the indie studio A24's biggest movie ever. And the latter has scored $265 million globally off of a $40 million budget.</p><p>They are wins for original films despite the Oscars overlooking them, which is ultimately a good thing for Hollywood. </p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5c545dafdfa1e713aa6ba657-1000/the farewell a24.jpg" alt="the farewell A24" /><p class="source"><span>A24</span></p><p>While 2019 was a year dominated by Disney franchise movies at the global box office, it also showed that audiences will go to the theater for exciting original or non-franchise movies with diverse casts and buzzy word-of-mouth.</p><p>Because of that, filmmakers like Lulu Wang, Greta Gerwig, Jordan Peele, Lorene Scafaria, and more will likely be able to get the financing necessary to keep making these kinds of movies for years to come. The Oscars snubs this year were glaring, but the 2019 box office shows why Hollywood's future is bright

She would learn, however, that there was a lot of competition ahead of her.</p><p>At first, the producers at Gloria Sanchez Productions - the female-focused arm of the Will Ferrell/Adam McKay company, Gary Sanchez Productions - thought the story of a group of former strippers who drug unsuspecting men and then rack up large sums of money on their credit cards could be a good fit for McKay. But he was busy making his Dick Cheney movie, "Vice."</p><p>Then the producers went even higher up the Hollywood food chain. They asked Martin Scorsese if he would want to make it, thinking the story read like a female version of "Goodfellas." But that didn't work out either.</p><p>During this time, Scafaria had handed in her draft of the script, but was also dropping hints that she could be right to direct the movie. Actually, she dropped a lot of hints.</p><p>"It was a long process to convince them," Scafaria admitted when talking to Business Insider before the movie's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. (The movie opens in theaters September 13.) "I tried to put as much visual language as I could in the script, like music cues. And I was constantly calling [the producers]. I even refused to take directing jobs. I wanted to be ready for if this ever came my way. All I wanted was the meeting."</p><p>She finally got one with producers and didn't squander the opportunity.</p><h2>'Strip teases to the music of Chopin'</h2><p>Scafaria is an actress-turned-screenwriter-turned-director whose 2008 debut script, "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," put her on the map. She then directed movies like the Steve Carell-starrer "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" (2012) and the Susan Sarandon/Rose Byrne dramedy "The Meddler" (2015), which showed the industry she could helm touching stories with name talent.</p><p>But could she convince people that the director of those movies could also make a post-financial-crisis gangster movie that follows women turning the tables on greedy Wall Street suits?</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5d72c4712e22af136c3f85d8-1300/hustlers%202%20stxfilms.jpg" border="0" alt="hustlers 2 stxfilms" data-mce-source="STXfilms"><p class="source"><span>STXfilms</span></p><p class="caption">(L-R) Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu in "Hustlers."</p></img></div><p></p></div></div>Scafaria felt she knew the world. She'd once worked in the high-intensity environment of stock sales and knew friends who stripped to pay off student loans. So she took her vision and put it into a sizzle reel that she showed at her meeting with the producers at Gloria Sanchez for the directing gig.<p>The reel highlighted how she wanted to portray the women beyond just a movie about strippers.</p><p>"I even edited footage of strip teases to the music of Chopin," she said with a laugh. That idea would later show up a few times in the finished movie.</p><p>Scafaria got the job and spent the next two years getting the movie off the ground: Annapurna Pictures came on to finance and distribute the movie; and an impressive cast formed, which included Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez.</p><p>This is where the story should end. Another underdog makes good in Hollywood. But this was just the start of the story for Scafaria.</p><h2>Refusing to compromise</h2><p>In mid-2018, Scafaria got word that Annapurna was pulling out of the movie as the company was rebounding from a string of box-office duds. "Hustlers" was now in limbo and due to Lopez's hectic schedule it wasn't clear if she could still be involved. For almost a year, Scafaria didn't know if she would ever be able to shoot a single scene of the script she wrote.</p><p>Scafaria was determined to find a taker for the movie, but also didn't want to compromise her vision of the story. She did a complete overhaul of the script twice and finally found a draft that she and STXfilms, which had become very interested in the project, could agree on.</p><p>"I did them without anyone paying me," Scafaria said of the rewrites. "That was really hard for me. I took it personally. So that led to me not wanting to compromise. To not have it suddenly become 'Ocean's Eight' with strippers. But for others, the Lopez buzz had been a long time coming.</p><p>Lopez has been a Fly Girl (the dance troupe on the 1990s show "In Living Color"), a multi-platinum singer, a tabloid staple, and a sex symbol. But you likely don't know her best as a dramatic actress. I mean, she and Ben Affleck gave us "Gigli." But if you look closely at Lopez's acting career, she's shown glimpses of her dramatic chops.</p><p>Lopez gave a great performance playing US Marshal Karen Sisco in Steven Soderbergh's 1998 "Out of Sight." They were mostly rom-coms and the occasional thriller. Still, Lopez was one of the biggest celebrities on the planet. "Hustlers" certainly needed her more than she needed it. Lopez plays the ringleader of the group, Ramona.</p><p>Lopez owns the movie from her first moment on the screen. Ramona is confident and is the fantasy of every man in the movie, which is evident as a wave of dollar bills rains down when she takes the stage for the first time. But it's the following scene that is the first indication that the character is much more than that. While Ramona is on the roof smoking a cigarette, draped in a fur coat, the shy and inexperienced Destiny (Constance Wu) shows up. Ramona knows exactly what to do. "Here, get in," Ramona says as she opens her fur coat and gives Destiny some warmth. Then there's a scene later in the movie when she talks about her friendship with Destiny, though the two have had a falling out. The emotional performance Lopez gives in that scene is like nothing she's ever done on the screen before.</p><p>Scafaria told Business Insider that there was a time <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hustlers-director-interview-on-the-struggle-to-make-the-movie-2019-9">in the three-year quest to get the movie made</a> that she could have started filming earlier, but it would have meant Lopez wouldn't be in the movie due to a scheduling conflict. </p><p>"I was like, 'Um, no,'" Scafaria said, sounding shocked that such a scenario was even brought up.
