The Indian flexi staffing industry added 78,000 jobs in July-September 2022, up 6 per cent as compared to the previous quarter, on account of a rise in demand across all sectors, a report said. "Buoyed by a strong festive season and rising demand across sectors, the <keyword id="807111" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-staffing-federation" source="Orion">Indian Staffing Federation</keyword> (<keyword id="6608230" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="isf" source="Orion">ISF</keyword>) members added 78,000 new jobs in the July-September quarter, a 6 per cent rise in new jobs over the previous April-June quarter," said ISF's Flexi Staffing Employment Growth report. The new jobs in July-September are a combination of new jobs in general staffing and IT staffing, it stated. ISF is the apex industry body representing formal staffing, facility management and security services companies. New jobs in general staffing - which excludes IT staffing - grew 7.3 per cent in July-September, driven by a rise in demand in <keyword id="34523" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fmcg" source="Orion">FMCG</keyword>, e-commerce, manufacturing, retail, logistics, banking, hospitality, tourism, insurance, and infrastructure, it stated. On the other hand, new jobs in IT staffing remained under pressure, growing a modest 2.2 per cent in the September quarter. While the IT staffing industry continues to address market demands in niche skills, there is a visible impact of the slowdown in global markets even as big Indian IT players curtail new hiring, it stated. <keyword id="8643518" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="cumulatively" source="Orion">Cumulatively</keyword>, ISF's over 110 member companies added 2.32 lakh jobs in the past four quarters, i.e. during the period from October 2022 to September 2023, which includes the 78,000 new jobs in July-September, it stated. Larger organisations are more likely to offer the desired flexibility, with 51% of employers stating that they do. For as many as 71% of Indian jobseekers, work flexibility takes the top spot. This includes the ability to work from home, set your own hours, and take breaks as needed. For those going to the office, the importance of factoring in the proximity of the job location to their office space has increased. "Streamlining processes, building aspirations and empathetic consideration can really empower jobseekers and unlock a diverse pool of talent. Hence, employers who want to attract and retain top talent need to be aware of these preferences and be willing to adapt,” says Sashi Kumar, head of sales, Indeed India. In addition to flexibility, jobseekers also value clarity and communication during the job search process. This leaves behind a huge class of citizens that are not benefited by these laws," says Lohit Bhatia, president of workforce management, Quess Corp. EPFO refers to the Employees Provident Fund Organisation. These findings suggest that there is a growing demand for formal employment in India, and that technology is playing a role in helping people make the transition. Moreover, work structures may never go back to a fully work-from-office structure as the demand for a hybrid culture has seeped in deep after the pandemic showed that work was possible without leaving the comforts of your home.

The automotive sector saw a rise in job postings even when the sector was in slowdown.“ Vehicle launches in hybrid, EV and SUV segments are all gaining traction thereby increasing customer interest and demand. Companies are sitting on advance orders running anywhere from a 2-9 month waiting period for some models, some of which are also accentuated by the global chip crisis. Hence, organisations are hiring due to this enhanced demand, which once the chip crisis is behind us, will show up in automobile sales numbers. ” said Lohit Bhatia, president - workforce management at Quess Corp. He said, “The travel and tourism sector that employs millions of Indians started bouncing back after the first wave, but little did they know that COVID-19 would be back for the second round of devastation. Aviation and other travel sector establishments faced a massive struggle during the pandemic.” Overall annual growth of the medical/healthcare sector was also slow as compared to other sectors. “ Annual growth was comparatively slower for sectors like Medical/Healthcare and Pharma/Biotech. It is predicted that hiring activity will increase and many sectors such as banking and financial services, ecommerce, consumer goods, telecom, manufacturing, IT and industrial services, etc will start hiring on a big scale soon. "Job market reacted negatively to demonetisation, but this is not so in the case of GST. On the contrary, industry leaders are bullish of a post-GST world, and are expecting business to look up in the months to come," Shiv Agrawal, ABC Consultants managing director, told ET. Meanwhile, banking and financial services will lead the hiring spree "Nearly a lakh new jobs would be created in the next month or so and about 3 lakh professionals associated with GST-related activities will be in demand over the next nine months," Lohit Bhatia, the staffing solutions business head at IKYA Human Capital Solutions, told ET.

Indian job sector is marred with the fear of layoffs because of cash crunch or increasing automation, which has resulted in a major rise in the number of resumes on hiring platforms. 
 
Applications from people from IT and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Indian-e-commerce-market-is-slowing-down/articleshow/52940196.cms">e-commerce</a> industries have increased by 20-25%, as per Lohit Bhatia, business head, staffing solutions, IKYA Human Capital Solutions. 
 
"It's happening at firms where the management is either reducing workforce or rationalising the headcount to balance demand and supply," Bhatia told ET. 
 
Last year, there were about 9,200 employee layoffs, a lot more than about 5,500 in 2015, says research platform Xeler8. Major industries that saw these layoffs were food delivery, e-commerce and consumer services companies.

While on one side job seekers are knocking on the doors of these platforms, employers are increasingly withdrawing. Online recruitment activity in e-commerce stumbled from 3% in December 2016 to a negative 3% in January 2017, says Monster. Month-on-month, there has been a 4% decline in hiring activity.
