<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12284940" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="lisa-barlow" source="Orion">Lisa Barlow</keyword> opened up about federal agents coming to a "<keyword id="11899434" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="real-housewives" source="Orion">Real Housewives</keyword>" shoot looking for <keyword id="12094676" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jen-shah" source="Orion">Jen Shah</keyword>.</li><li>Shah, who stars with Barlow on "<keyword id="12094681" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="rhoslc" source="Orion">RHOSLC</keyword>," was charged with wiretapping and money laundering in March.</li></ul><p>Lisa Barlow said she "felt emotionally traumatized" when federal authorities came to a "<keyword id="12094679" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="real-housewives-of-salt-lake-city" source="Orion">Real Housewives of Salt Lake City</keyword>" shoot looking for Jen Shah. </p><p>In March, the Justice Department charged Shah and her assistant Stuart Smith <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jen-shah-charged-with-telemarketing-fraud-scheme-2021-3">with wire fraud and money laundering</a>. <a href="https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/jen-shah-from-the-real-housewives-of-salt-lake-city-not-guilty-1234943035/">According to Variety</a>, Shah's bail was set at $1 million after she was arrested, <a href="https://www.insider.com/real-housewives-jen-shah-virtual-court-hearing-delayed-by-fans-2021-4">requiring $250,000 for the bond</a>. Both Smith and Shah have since <a href="https://www.insider.com/real-housewives-jen-shah-virtual-court-hearing-delayed-by-fans-2021-4">pleaded not guilty to the charges</a>. The case is ongoing, and <a href="https://pagesix.com/2021/10/16/rhoslcs-money-hosting-strip-club-event-ahead-of-fraud-trial/">Shah's trial is currently set for March 2022</a>, according to Page Six.</p><p>Part of Shah's run-in with the law was captured on-camera and included in the cold open for the latest season of "RHOSLC," as well as in Sunday's episode.</p><p>In the footage, Shah is seen sitting in a van with castmates Whitney Rose, Jennie Nguyen, Heather Gay, and Lisa Barlow on the way to a trip to Vail, Colorado, when she gets a phone call. Shah leaves the van and minutes later law enforcement shows up asking where Shah is. </p><p>Barlow opened up about the incident in a recent interview with Insider, saying that she "literally had PTSD for weeks from it" because she felt "emotionally traumatized." </p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/rhoslc-lisa-barlow-ambushed-by-whitney-rose-party-sabotage-accusations-2021-10">The Vida tequila founder</a> recalled that morning in March began relatively uneventfully, with her husband dropping her off at the van parked outside Gay's Beauty Lab+Laser store in Salt Lake City. Barlow said that soon afterward, Shah received a call and told her castmates that her husband, Sharrief, was "internally bleeding" and that she had to go be with him. </p><p>After Shah left, Barlow, Gay, Rose, and Nguyen debated waiting for Shah to get back from the hospital to see if she still wanted to go on the trip.</p><p>"Then within five minutes of her leaving, Homeland Security, FBI, NYPD all show up. It was a lot. There's men with guns," Barlow described the scene, also captured on camera.</p><p>She added: "You're seeing our most raw, in-the-moment reactions to the most insane situation."</p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xodmbDBw-Z0?start=106" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>Barlow continued that in her initial confusion, she thought someone had ordered pizza and the men were there to deliver it. </p><p>"At first I was like, there's an NYPD Pizza by my house," she said, referring to a since-closed New York-style pizza restaurant in Salt Lake City. "I was like, 'Did somebody get pizza?' Like, what is this? I was so confused."</p><p>Law enforcement asked the "RHOSLC" cast present at the time about Shah's whereabouts, adding that they "need to make sure she's safe" without giving the women any specifics as to why they were looking for Shah. </p><p>Ultimately, a security team member Barlow previously worked with told her that "there's some awful allegations about Jen Shah" shortly after news broke about <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jen-shah-charged-with-telemarketing-fraud-scheme-2021-3">the wiretapping and money laundering charges</a> against Shah and Smith.</p><p>"I feel like we all felt emotionally traumatized, and it just starts opening the flood gates of questioning," Barlow admitted. </p><p>While Barlow is still processing the "intense" experience, Shah appears to be leaning into the news around the charges with her season two tagline: "The only thing I'm guilty of is being Shah-mazing."</p>

I did nothing wrong, I would never do that."</p><p>Barlow and Rose have had a rocky relationship from the first season of "RHOSLC," with Rose accusing Barlow of talking down to her - an accusation Barlow has repeatedly denied. </p><p>On last Sunday's episode of <a href="https://www.insider.com/meredith-marks-addresses-jen-shah-liking-homophobic-posts-rhoslc-2021-9">the Bravo reality show</a>, Angie Harrington, Barlow's longtime friend and an "RHOSLC" newcomer, hosts a charity gala for LGBTQ youth. Ahead of the event, Harrington opens up to Barlow about how she's developed a friendship with Rose, and a little while later, Harrington says that her caterers for the event backed out.</p><p>In a separate conversation between Rose and Harrington shown during that episode, Rose suggests that Barlow might have sabotaged Harrington's event because of Harrington's newfound friendship with Rose. Later at the party, Harrington confronts Barlow about possibly having put pressure on the caterers to back out of the event. Barlow first denies the accusations in a heated conversation and then tearfully storms away from the party. </p><p>Speaking to Insider on Wednesday, Barlow said she "felt ambushed" by the party-sabotaging accusations. She added that she was "super excited" to go to Harrington's gala because the Vida owner is "very pro-LGBTQ."</p><p>"Then when I'm asked to have a conversation, I thought it was going to be something light between friends for multiple years," Barlow said about her chat with Harrington. "So I was shocked, blindsided."</p><p>She continued that when Harrington asked her if she'd made the caterers back out of the event, Barlow felt a "myriad of emotions."</p><p>Barlow told Insider she recalled thinking at the time: "Why does this have anything to do with me? What are you even talking about? There's amazing food being passed around. There's a room with catering and it's all displayed on a table."</p><div type="image" title="Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" height="733" width="978" msid="86921277" hostid="261"></div><p>Office managers for the caterers involved in the controversy - chefs Marco and Aubrey Niccoli - told <a href="https://pagesix.com/2021/10/06/rhoslc-caterers-reveal-if-lisa-barlow-ruined-angie-hs-event/">Page Six</a><a href="https://pagesix.com/2021/10/06/rhoslc-caterers-reveal-if-lisa-barlow-ruined-angie-hs-event/"> </a><a href="https://pagesix.com/2021/10/06/rhoslc-caterers-reveal-if-lisa-barlow-ruined-angie-hs-event/">on Wednesday</a> that Barlow "had NOTHING to do with them not being able to do Angie's event - and Angie knows that."</p><p>"The truth is that they had just opened their restaurant and had prior commitments," the managers said.</p><p>The same day Aubrey Niccoli <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CUsvDEplxhb/">shared a text exchange</a> between herself and Harrington on Instagram, writing that Harrington "completely fabricated this story to create a story line for herself."</p><p>"Lisa did NOT tell us to not do Angie's event. Never happened and she never would do something like that," the caption continued, in part.</p><p>Barlow also told Insider that catering for Harrington's event "wasn't a good business decision" for the Niccolis, something Aubrey Niccoli <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CUsvDEplxhb/">reiterated in her Instagram post</a>. Barlow explained <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CUlvDHeMcMc/">that "Marco had his brother cater the event,"</a> which is why there was food at the event after all, as shown in the episode.</p><p>Instead, Barlow held Rose responsible for the misunderstanding over the caterers and pointed at the strained relationship between the two women. But she also hinted that viewers might expect a possible reconciliation between herself and Rose. </p><p>"Whitney and I get to a much better place," Barlow said. "But I feel like for Whitney, if I hug Whitney, I need medication, which I'm not on. If I don't hug Whitney, I'm snubbing her. So I think she's always trying to figure out where Whitney is, every time I run into her."</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12094680" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="bravo" source="Orion">Bravo</keyword> has fired <keyword id="12990228" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jennie-nguyen" source="Orion">Jennie Nguyen</keyword>, a cast member on "<keyword id="12990227" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="the-real-housewives-of-salt-lake-city" source="Orion">The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City</keyword>." </li><li>Nguyen joined the show in its second season, which is still airing. </li></ul><p>Jennie Nguyen will no longer be a cast member on "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City," <a href="https://twitter.com/BravoTV/status/1486031228818104325">Bravo announced Tuesday</a>. </p><p>"Bravo has ceased filming with Jennie Nguyen," the network said in a post to Twitter. </p><p>Nguyen came under fire last week for social media posts she shared in 2020 during <keyword id="11965126" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="black-lives-matter" source="Orion">Black Lives Matter</keyword> protests in which she appeared to criticize the racial-justice movement, <a href="https://www.insider.com/rhoslc-jennie-nguyen-under-fire-for-past-facebook-posts-2022-1">Insider previously reported</a>.</p><p>"We recognize we failed to take appropriate action once her offensive social media posts were brought to our attention," the announcement said. </p><p>Nguyen did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. She has not yet publicly commented on her firing.</p><p>Nguyen's posts, <a href="https://imgur.com/a/i5suXZE#4FlZdj1">which were deleted last week but were preserved by users on Twitter</a>, sparked blacklash from fans of the hit Bravo show, who called for her firing.</p><p>None of the controversial posts were written by Nguyen herself but were posts by others that she shared on her personal public Facebook page.</p><p>One post falsely said "anarchists" were "rioting in major cities every night" in the summer of 2020. </p><p>"Hundreds of blacks shot and many killed (including children) by other blacks every week," one post shared by Nguyen in September 2020 read. "I regret those posts and am sincerely sorry for the pain they caused."</p><p>Nguyen faced pushback from her "RHOSLC" castmates, including Jen Shah who last week said she was "disappointed by the disingenuous apology that was issued." Cast member Meredith Marks <a href="https://twitter.com/MeredithMarks0/status/1485325005319598081">said she was</a> "deeply disturbed and outraged by her actions" and Lisa Barlow <a href="https://twitter.com/LisaBarlow7/status/1484755424632967171">said she didn't "condone"</a> Nguyen's Facebook posts.</p><p>Nguyen joined the cast of the reality show for season 2, which first aired in September 2021. The season is expected to conclude in February with a pre-taped reunion episode.</p>

Now that at least <a href="https://www.edweek.org/ew/section/multimedia/map-coronavirus-and-school-closures.html">55 million US students</a> are learning from home due to the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-live-updates-latest-news">coronavirus pandemic,</a> many parents say they're more grateful for educators than ever before. </p><p>Many parents are also eager to demonstrate that gratitude by gifting something special. To find out what educators would be excited to receive, Insider reached out to a group of teachers on Facebook, and more than 500 educators responded. </p><p>Some favorites include personal notes, drawings, and gift cards. While many teachers said they would be grateful for any sort of recognition, some noted that they don't get quite as excited about such common gifts as mugs, candles, or monogrammed water bottles and tote bags.</p><p>Insider compiled the top 20 gifts teachers said they appreciate most. </p><h2>A personalized note or email</h2><p><div type="image" title="child writing" height="3415" width="4553" msid="75632731" hostid="261"></div></p><p>The most popular gift by far was a personalized note or email – either from a student or a parent. Teachers said they particularly like cards that specify what the person enjoyed about the class or the teaching style.</p><p>"After a rough day or at the end of the year when I'm asking myself 'Did I make a difference?' I pull those notes out and read them," Gregg Williams, a social studies teacher in Arlington Texas said, "and that is the elixir to keep me going."</p><h2>A handmade craft</h2><p><div type="image" title="teacher gifts" height="3456" width="4608" msid="75632737" hostid="261"></div></p><p>The second most requested present was something homemade. A number of teachers said that getting drawings, paintings, and handcrafted cards put a smile on their faces. </p><p>"I've been teaching for 10 plus years now, and I still hang up sweet pictures and cards students made for me," Nina Moser, an enrichment teacher in Urbandale, Iowa, said. </p><h2>Caffeine</h2><p><div type="image" title="coffee" height="3750" width="5000" msid="75632742" hostid="261"></div></p><p>The average school day is about seven hours long. But the average teacher clocks in 12 to 16 hours daily, according to<a href="https://edtechmagazine.com/k12/article/2013/08/how-many-hours-do-educators-actually-work"> EdTech Magazine. </a>Many teachers said that they rely on caffeine for a boost of energy, especially during this stressful period, and that a nice bag of coffee beans, or even a case of their favorite soda, goes a long way. </p><h2>Toilet paper, hand sanitizer, tissues, and disinfectant wipes</h2><p>Now that there's a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/where-to-buy-toilet-paper-essentials-sold-out-amazon-walmart-2020-4">shortage of basic household items</a>, many teachers said they'd actually love to get some toilet paper and disinfectant wipes, both for themselves and for their classrooms once school resumes.</p><h2>A virtual check-in </h2><p><div type="image" title="elementary school zoom" height="1411" width="1881" msid="75632762" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Many teachers said that what they miss most is their face-to-face interactions with their students. Scheduling a Zoom meeting or a Google Hangout session to check in and say "thank you" will go a long way. </p><h2>A hot meal</h2><p>Many teachers have said that educating their students during the pandemic is particularly stressful since they're adapting to an entirely new platform, while also managing their personal lives. That's why so many say getting a hot meal from a restaurant, especially now, is a true luxury.</p><p>"One of the best gifts I have gotten was lunch brought in by a parent," Amy Valentine Barlow, a middle school science teacher in Miami, Florida, said. "Simple, but thoughtful."</p><h2>A video of your child graduating or performing from home</h2><p>Teachers are just as disappointed as students that major events have been canceled this year. Virtually including teachers in at-home celebrations and performances can help them feel more connected to their students.</p><h2>Gift Cards </h2><p><div type="image" title="gift cards" height="2533" width="3377" msid="75632765" hostid="261"></div></p><p>A 2018 study found that public school teachers <a href="https://nypost.com/2018/05/15/study-reveals-how-much-teachers-spend-each-year-on-school-supplies/">spend an average of $480 of their own money</a> a year on supplies for the classroom. Many teachers said that they'd appreciate gift cards from Amazon, Target, and Teachers Pay Teachers,  to help with stocking up their classrooms so they'll be prepared when school resumes. </p><h2><strong style="background-color: #ffffff;">Dry erase markers, paper clips, and classroom supplies </strong></h2><p>If you prefer to give a tangible gift, consider buying classroom supplies, such as paper clips, pencils, dry erase markers, and pens. Find out if the teacher has an online wish list or ask if they have any specific needs.</p><h2>Plants </h2><p><div type="image" title="Potted Plant" height="3333" width="4444" msid="75632772" hostid="261"></div></p><p>A little bit of greenery can brighten a teacher's day. </p><p>"I love getting plants because I can keep them in my room during the year," Amy Rorvick Oseguera, a St. Paul, Minnesota teacher, said. "I share stories of the kids who gifted them to me and during the summer they stay at my house, reminding me of all the joy my job brings to me."</p><h2>A personalized thank you sign</h2><p>Some teachers said they'd like a colorful gesture of gratitude. "A sign in my front yard from students saying 'a cool teacher lives here' and notes all over would be so cool," Kristen Case, a West Park, Ohio teacher, said. </p><p>Parents can send a photo of their child holding a sign expressing their appreciation, too.</p><h2>Small treasures</h2><p><div type="image" title="Children playing outside" height="3559" width="4745" msid="75632777" hostid="261"></div></p><p>"The best [gifts] are just the random things [students] find that they give you," Lisa Hoffpauir Waldrop, a Houston, Texas teacher, said. One of her favorite gifts was a small plastic apple from a student last year. </p><h2><strong>Something special that reminds a teacher of a student</strong></h2><p>When Megan Ostrander Sneary assigned her class to write about their heritage, a Native American student submitted her report and gave the Arizona teacher a special picture. The student drew the totems of her clan. "She was honored to share the heritage of her clan and tribe with me," said Ostrander Sneary.</p><h2>An item from the school store</h2><p>Many teachers would still like to represent their school while at home. Stephanie Brennan said that she appreciated when the principal of her school let teachers choose an item from the school store as a gift, including face masks branded with the school logo.</p><h2>Alcohol (but inquire first)</h2><p><div type="image" title="Wine aisle" height="2700" width="3600" msid="75632783" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Before giving alcohol to teachers, make sure that that's something they enjoy. If they're a wine drinker or other type of alcohol connoisseur, consider dropping off a nice bottle with a thoughtful thank you note.</p><h2>Show up</h2><p>More than anything, teachers want to communicate with their students, especially while they're learning remotely, Dorothy Chartres Noble, a teacher in Catonsville, Maryland said.</p><p>"Attendance," Noble said of what she wants most. "Just hearing how students are doing and interacting with them is enough this year."</p><h2>A spa treatment </h2><p>Everyone is looking forward to the moment when they can get pampered, once businesses start reopening. That's why a gift certificate to a spa is a great gift right now. </p><p>"I love when I get gift cards because I am very frugal with my small teacher salary," Jessica Davidson said. "With a gift card, I feel like I can treat myself without worrying that I can't afford it."</p><h2>Experiential gifts </h2><p><div type="image" title="Zoom class" height="2839" width="3785" msid="75632790" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Enabling a teacher to take a real break, by treating them to a remote yoga or dance class, is something many teachers say they would enjoy.</p><h2>Donations toward a dream project</h2><p>Teachers often come up with major projects for schools that require major funding. </p><p>That was the case for Rosanna Christine, a Rhode Island music teacher, who was trying to collect enough money to buy a new piano for her chorus classroom. A few parents made donations and that meant a lot to her. </p><p>"That was the best gift I could ask for," Christine said. </p><h2>Year-round advocacy</h2><p>Teachers say they appreciate the <a href="https://www.insider.com/im-grateful-for-all-teacher-appreciation-but-want-see-more-2020-5">recognition they're now getting,</a> and are grateful for gifts. But several said that what they'd really like to see is advocacy and support for their profession all year long, not just during a crisis. </p><p>"The best thing they can do is vote," Candace McCann-Belbey, a teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada, said. In September, President Obama signed an executive order making two changes to the process. In addition, UBS also poached Emilio Valdes, who is leaving Merrill Lynch with his $155 million AUM and $1.3 million in fees and commissions.
