According to official Excise department <keyword id="6355729" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="data" source="Orion">data</keyword>, 3,99,60,509 (3.99 crore) liquor bottles were sold in December 2022 through a network of 520 shops. In December 2023, 4,97,80,240 (4.97 crore) bottles were sold from 635 vends. According to the data, 24,00,726 (24 lakh) liquor bottles were sold on New Year's Eve (December 31) -- the highest single-day sales during December 2023. December 31, 2022, witnessed sales of 20,30,664 (20.30 lakh) bottles -- also the highest single-day sales figure for that month. The second highest sales in December 2023 were recorded on Christmas Eve (December 24) when 19,42,717 (19.42 lakh) bottles were sold. On the same day in 2022, the data showed that 14,69,357 (14.69 lakh) bottles were sold. The data also showed that 17,79,379 (17.79 lakh) liquor bottles were sold on December 30, 2023, against 14,66,353 (14.66 lakh) on the same day in 2022. In 2023, the lowest sales were recorded on December 5 when 12,84,222 (12.84 lakh) bottles were sold against 13,81,531 (13.81 lakh) on the same day in 2022. In 2022, the lowest sales were seen on December 4, with 9,03,835 (9.03 lakh) bottles sold. Sales of liquor bottles breached the 10-lakh every day in December 2023.

Further, online tech stacks synchronise with regulatory and excise requirements, ensuring adherence to timings, dry days and zonal delivery guardrails” Beer manufacturers like United Breweries and AB InBev are also interested in this concept, an industry executive told ET. “Beer blends more with grocery shopping, especially for consumers in big cities, and needs to be chilled, which limits its visibility in liquor vends.” In 2020, AB InBev started Beerbox, a platform that listed places delivering alcohol within a 3-4 km range. This was after Maharashtra temporarily allowed home deliveries during the pandemic. Will alcohol home delivery be a reality soon? Swiggy, Zomato, and Blinkit smell an opportunity

The West Bengal government has earned a whopping state excise income of Rs 600 crore through sale of liquor during the four days of the just concluded <keyword id="6357908" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="durga-puja" source="Orion">Durga Puja</keyword> festival in the state. Monday was the first working day for the state government after a long Durga Puja vacation and the calculations drawn on the <keyword id="167799" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="liquor-sales" source="Orion">liquor sales</keyword> in the state and the amount coming to the state exchequer in the form of state excise has made the officials of the state finance department quite elated. As per calculations of the state finance department officials, the state excise collection has already touched around Rs 8,000 crore which is around 45 per cent of the targeted collection of Rs 17,921.56 crore as per the budget estimates for 2023-24. Going by the trend during the four days of Durga Puja, the state excise officials expect similar impressive sales of liquor and beer during the current month on the occasion of <keyword id="57824" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kali-puja" source="Orion">Kali Puja</keyword> and Diwali and then in December because of another prolonged festive season starting with Christmas and ending with New Year's Eve. "Generally, the period between October and January is the boom period as regards liquor sales and state excise collection because of two prolonged festive seasons at short intervals. But the trend in Durga Puja this year on this count has surpassed all previous records. So it is now almost certain that the targeted state excise collection will be well surpassed by the end of the current financial year," said a state finance department official. As per the budget estimates for the financial year of 2023-24, the state excise collection is slated to rise to Rs 17,921.56 crore, up by 19.41 per cent from the figure of from Rs 15,001.39 crore as per the revised estimates for the financial year of 2022-23. Whereas, the total state's own tax revenue as per the budget estimates for 2023-24 is slated to increase by just 12.69 per cent to Rs 88,595.54 crore from the figure of Rs 79,5000 crore as per the revised estimates for 2022-23.

Liquor sales touches Rs 600 cr-mark during 4 days of Durga pooja festivities in Bengal

Allied Blenders and Distillers Ltd, the maker of Officer's Choice whisky, on Thursday fixed a <keyword id="19911460" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="price-band" source="keywords">price band</keyword> of Rs 267 to Rs 281 per share for its Rs 1,500-crore <keyword id="19913114" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="initial-public-offering" source="keywords">initial public offering</keyword> (IPO). The initial share-sale will open for public during June 25-27 and the bidding for anchor investors will open for a day on June 24, the company announced. Broking firms have pegged the company's <keyword id="20000950" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-capitalisation" source="keywords">market capitalisation</keyword> to Rs 7,860 crore post-issue. The initial share-sale comprises fresh issuance of equity shares worth Rs 1,000 crore and an Offer-for-Sale (OFS) of shares to the tune of Rs 500 crore by promoters. As a part of the OFS, Bina Kishore Chhabria, Resham Chhabria Jeetendra Hemdev and Neesha Kishore Chhabria will sell shares. Proceeds from the fresh issue worth Rs 720 crore will be used for the payment of debt. Besides, a portion will be used for general corporate purposes. The total debt on the the company's books was around Rs 808 crore as of December 2023. Half of the issue size has been reserved for qualified institutional investors, 35 per cent for retail investors and the remaining 10 per cent for non-institutional investors. Further, investors can bid for 53 shares and in multiples thereof. With a market share of over 8 per cent in <keyword id="20830317" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Made-Foreign-Liquor" source="keywords">Indian-Made Foreign Liquor</keyword> (IMFL) market by sales volumes in fiscal 2023, Allied Blenders and Distillers is engaged in the manufacturing, marketing and sale of alcoholic beverages in India and abroad. The product portfolio of the firm comprises several brands of IMFL across whisky, brandy, rum and vodka. Some of the major brands of the company include Officer's Choice whisky, Sterling Reserve whisky, Jolly Roger rum and Class 21 vodka. ICICI Securities Ltd, Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd, and ITI Capital Ltd are the book running lead managers to the issue. The equity shares of the company are proposed to be listed on the BSE and NSE. Whisky maker Allied Blenders IPO to open on June 25 as it looks to raise ₹1,500 crore

New Delhi, Sales of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) rose by 14 per cent in volume terms to 385 million cases in FY 2022-23 while premium products priced over Rs 1,000 per 750ml bottle grew by 48 per cent, according to industry body CIABC. Sales are almost 12 per cent higher than the pre-Covid levels of FY 2019-20, indicating that the impact of Covid has fully worn off, it said. The industry is expected to grow in the current fiscal by 8 per cent to end around 412-415 million cases (9 litres each), the report by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) stated. In FY23, <keyword id="30161" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Whisky" source="Orion">whisky</keyword> remained the largest segment with an expected sales volume of 243 million cases, contributing 63 per cent of sales of the total industry. Moreover, after many years of decline, Gin seems to have reversed the trend and is back in growth, added the report CIABC, which is the apex body of the Indian Alcoholic Beverage Industry. According to the report, the trend of premiumisation has continued in the liquor industry as tumblers prefer for high priced offerings. "Higher price segments are growing much faster than the lower segments and the share of brands above Rs 500 per 750ml bottle is now at 20 per cent," it said, adding the price segment of Rs 1000 and above is dominated by imported products and reported 48 per cent growth. The market is still dominated by low-priced products, selling below Rs 500 per 750ml bottle accounting for 79 per cent of the total sales. While segments priced between Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 accounted for 21 per cent of total sales and above Rs 1,000 (mostly imported) contributed 3 per cent of the sales. However, the share of Indian products in Rs 1,000 and above has risen from 18 per cent to 20 per cent in FY23, indicating a faster growth for Indian products in this segment compared to imported products, it said. CIABC Director General Vinod Giri said: "Liquor industry has sailed through the adverse impact of the Corona pandemic on sales. After a slowdown for couple of years, we are again on fast sales growth path." Region wise, the CIABC report said barring a few states, growth has been fairly 'consistent' across India. "It has grown by 32 per cent in Western region, 22 per cent in Eastern region, 16 per cent in Northern region and 9 per cent in the Southern region," it said. Like earlier, the Southern region has remained the largest contributor to sales volume with 58 per cent share followed by West and East, which contributed 22 per cent equally. The North region contributed 16 per cent of the total sales, as states likes Punjab has a whopping 54 per cent growth over last year. "This appears that the new excise policy has had a very positive effect in a state where IMFL segment has historically been very sluggish and smaller compared to even neighbouring states including Himachal and Uttarakhand," it said. While, Delhi, despite disruption from the excise policy changes and the non-availability of many brands, maintained a healthy annual growth rate of 36 per cent YoY. "However, a closer analysis shows that much of this growth is attributed to the First quarter of 2022-23 when various trade schemes and promotions were run to liquidate the stock in view of the impending changes in the excise policy. Thereafter sales growth has been trending down reaching negative range," it said. However, some states reported a decline in sales also such as Telangana (-6 per cent), UP (-1 per cent) and Uttarakhand (-3 per cent). Over the outlook, CIABC said it expects sales in Telangana and Uttarakhand to recover and other states to maintain growth momentum. "Following the likely Growth Momentum, we expect the liquor industry to end the year FY 23-24 to end around 412-415 million cases which would be a growth of 7-8 per cent," it said. CIABC said it may see challenges in UP, West Bengal and Delhi unless appropriate regulatory interventions are made in these states.

But if he is directly profiting from liquor sales — meaning getting a cut of the bar till — then that's another story, said Pierce, partner at the business law firm <a target="_blank" href="https://piercekwok.com/">Pierce &amp; Kwok LLP</a>."If he's not on the paperwork, but he's profiting directly from the sale of alcohol, then he's not off the hook," he said.Trump would still have options, though, even if his hush-money conviction voided one or more of his liquor licenses.In New York, Trump could ask for a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nycourts.gov/courthelp/criminal/CRD.shtml">certificate of relief from civil disabilities,</a> Pierce said.A "CRD," as it's called, would be issued by the judge at or after sentencing, and it can help someone with a conviction overcome certain licensing requirements.If New Jersey determines that Trump's hush-money conviction disqualifies him as a licensee, as it's a crime of "moral turpitude," Trump could divest from the LLC that owns the license, said Fay, the former prosecutor at the division's enforcement bureau."As I understand, it involves some sort of misrepresentations, so I would assume there's some fraud in that — so theoretically, it would be a moral turpitude crime," Fay said. "Then, yeah, the next option would be to divest his interest.""People do tend to pass it on to other LLC members. Sometimes you'll see family members," said Fay. "But I would imagine this would be under some sort of close review at the ABC to make sure it's above board."Trump could also have his lawyers make the case at a hearing before an administrative judge that his conviction does not qualify for license-revocation, Fay said.Challenging the revocation could take months or years, during which the license would stay in place, Fay said."I don't imagine that will happen here," Fay said of a potential hearing. "There may be conversations that occur proactively, whether it's the golf courses or Trump himself, to take action to absolve himself of a potential issue."

Most of the mezcal consumed in the world comes from this Mexican state, and Alvin, a US expat living in Oaxaca City who fancies himself a mezcal whisperer, had been guiding Cranston and Paul through sweltering hikes and butt-numbing rides looking for a version of the liquor that could satisfy both actors' palates and put them into business.Some stars wait for big brands to ask them to be the face of their liquor after all the hard work is complete. The move comes after tipplers gathered in large numbers outside liquor shops at several places in the state last week, defying the physical distancing norms to contain the spread of coronavirus. Under the new system, a person can get a token by registering on the state excise departments portal and then go to the shop to buy liquor, a senior department official said on Monday. Only those who get the token can go to the shop and buy liquor. It will help in preventing long queues of people outside liquor shops. Huge crowds outside shops put a lot of pressure on the state administration to enforce physical distancing, he said.
