Dinker Vashisht, vice president of corporate affairs at Swiggy said “Online models ensure end-to-end transaction records, age verification and adhere to limits. Further, online tech stacks synchronise with regulatory and excise requirements, ensuring adherence to timings, dry days and zonal delivery guardrails” Beer manufacturers like United Breweries and AB InBev are also interested in this concept, an industry executive told ET. “Beer blends more with grocery shopping, especially for consumers in big cities, and needs to be chilled, which limits its visibility in liquor vends.” In 2020, AB InBev started Beerbox, a platform that listed places delivering alcohol within a 3-4 km range. This was after Maharashtra temporarily allowed home deliveries during the pandemic. Will alcohol home delivery be a reality soon? Swiggy, Zomato, and Blinkit smell an opportunity

Allied Blenders and Distillers Ltd, the maker of Officer's Choice whisky, on Thursday fixed a <keyword id="19911460" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="price-band" source="keywords">price band</keyword> of Rs 267 to Rs 281 per share for its Rs 1,500-crore <keyword id="19913114" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="initial-public-offering" source="keywords">initial public offering</keyword> (IPO). The initial share-sale will open for public during June 25-27 and the bidding for anchor investors will open for a day on June 24, the company announced. Broking firms have pegged the company's <keyword id="20000950" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-capitalisation" source="keywords">market capitalisation</keyword> to Rs 7,860 crore post-issue. The initial share-sale comprises fresh issuance of equity shares worth Rs 1,000 crore and an Offer-for-Sale (OFS) of shares to the tune of Rs 500 crore by promoters. As a part of the OFS, Bina Kishore Chhabria, Resham Chhabria Jeetendra Hemdev and Neesha Kishore Chhabria will sell shares. Proceeds from the fresh issue worth Rs 720 crore will be used for the payment of debt. Besides, a portion will be used for general corporate purposes. The total debt on the the company's books was around Rs 808 crore as of December 2023. Half of the issue size has been reserved for qualified institutional investors, 35 per cent for retail investors and the remaining 10 per cent for non-institutional investors. Further, investors can bid for 53 shares and in multiples thereof. With a market share of over 8 per cent in <keyword id="20830317" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Made-Foreign-Liquor" source="keywords">Indian-Made Foreign Liquor</keyword> (IMFL) market by sales volumes in fiscal 2023, Allied Blenders and Distillers is engaged in the manufacturing, marketing and sale of alcoholic beverages in India and abroad. The product portfolio of the firm comprises several brands of IMFL across whisky, brandy, rum and vodka. Some of the major brands of the company include Officer's Choice whisky, Sterling Reserve whisky, Jolly Roger rum and Class 21 vodka. ICICI Securities Ltd, Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd, and ITI Capital Ltd are the book running lead managers to the issue. The equity shares of the company are proposed to be listed on the BSE and NSE. From Walmart and Ikea to Heineken, here are the companies whose imports may be most impacted by the port strike

New Delhi, Sales of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) rose by 14 per cent in volume terms to 385 million cases in FY 2022-23 while premium products priced over Rs 1,000 per 750ml bottle grew by 48 per cent, according to industry body CIABC. Sales are almost 12 per cent higher than the pre-Covid levels of FY 2019-20, indicating that the impact of Covid has fully worn off, it said. The industry is expected to grow in the current fiscal by 8 per cent to end around 412-415 million cases (9 litres each), the report by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) stated. In FY23, <keyword id="30161" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Whisky" source="Orion">whisky</keyword> remained the largest segment with an expected sales volume of 243 million cases, contributing 63 per cent of sales of the total industry. Moreover, after many years of decline, Gin seems to have reversed the trend and is back in growth, added the report CIABC, which is the apex body of the Indian Alcoholic Beverage Industry. According to the report, the trend of premiumisation has continued in the liquor industry as tumblers prefer for high priced offerings. "Higher price segments are growing much faster than the lower segments and the share of brands above Rs 500 per 750ml bottle is now at 20 per cent," it said, adding the price segment of Rs 1000 and above is dominated by imported products and reported 48 per cent growth. The market is still dominated by low-priced products, selling below Rs 500 per 750ml bottle accounting for 79 per cent of the total sales. While segments priced between Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 accounted for 21 per cent of total sales and above Rs 1,000 (mostly imported) contributed 3 per cent of the sales. However, the share of Indian products in Rs 1,000 and above has risen from 18 per cent to 20 per cent in FY23, indicating a faster growth for Indian products in this segment compared to imported products, it said. CIABC Director General Vinod Giri said: "Liquor industry has sailed through the adverse impact of the Corona pandemic on sales. After a slowdown for couple of years, we are again on fast sales growth path." Region wise, the CIABC report said barring a few states, growth has been fairly 'consistent' across India. "It has grown by 32 per cent in Western region, 22 per cent in Eastern region, 16 per cent in Northern region and 9 per cent in the Southern region," it said. Like earlier, the Southern region has remained the largest contributor to sales volume with 58 per cent share followed by West and East, which contributed 22 per cent equally. The North region contributed 16 per cent of the total sales, as states likes Punjab has a whopping 54 per cent growth over last year. "This appears that the new excise policy has had a very positive effect in a state where IMFL segment has historically been very sluggish and smaller compared to even neighbouring states including Himachal and Uttarakhand," it said. While, Delhi, despite disruption from the excise policy changes and the non-availability of many brands, maintained a healthy annual growth rate of 36 per cent YoY. "However, a closer analysis shows that much of this growth is attributed to the First quarter of 2022-23 when various trade schemes and promotions were run to liquidate the stock in view of the impending changes in the excise policy. Thereafter sales growth has been trending down reaching negative range," it said. However, some states reported a decline in sales also such as Telangana (-6 per cent), UP (-1 per cent) and Uttarakhand (-3 per cent). Over the outlook, CIABC said it expects sales in Telangana and Uttarakhand to recover and other states to maintain growth momentum. "Following the likely Growth Momentum, we expect the liquor industry to end the year FY 23-24 to end around 412-415 million cases which would be a growth of 7-8 per cent," it said. CIABC said it may see challenges in UP, West Bengal and Delhi unless appropriate regulatory interventions are made in these states.

But when I opened the latest bottle of liquor to arrive on my doorstep, I was hit with a smell I'd never experienced before. Nacho cheese.Doritos is now producing a nacho cheese-flavored liquor, made in partnership with a Danish-based distiller called <a target="_blank" href="https://empirical.co/">Empirical</a>. The flavors are meant to evoke nacho cheese, of course, as well as corn tostada, umami, and a hint of acidity. You can mix the limited edition liquor with a margarita, bloody mary, or old-fashioned. It'll sell for $65 and will be available next month online and in some New York and California stores.<h2>Doritos dust — in a drink</h2>When I first tried it, I took a sip from a glass without any mixers or ice. It almost tasted like flavored vodka, but as the liquid flowed down my mouth, I did get the sensation of nacho chip powder floating around my mouth.That's by design, Empirical distiller and CEO Lars Williams told me. "You feel like you can smell the actual dust and your fingers almost feel like they're going to get a little sticky every time you're tasting it," he said."Wow, no," a friend proclaimed when I gave her a sample to try. She and I are both older millennials — not exactly the ideal demographic for this new liquor. That'd be Gen Z."This younger generation is a little bit more adventurous and willing to try different things," Williams said.<h2>Doritos liquor tasted like a drink I would've made in college</h2>I made my friend and I margaritas using the Empirical x Doritos Nacho Cheese liquor, along with some fresh lime juice, agave syrup, and Del Maguey mezcal — which proved to be a mistake on my part, as Empirical reps told me that I should mix the spirit with blanco tequila, which is more neutral in flavor. We also tried it with a mix of Pepsi and a small splash of lime, another concoction that Williams recommended, but could barely stomach it. I'd say it tasted like a mixed drink I would've had in college.Williams — a former chef at Noma, a Copenhagen restaurant that frequently tops lists of the world's best restaurants — co-founded Empirical in 2017 to create sensory memories from less elitist flavors than expensive fine dining. The drinks he makes, including the Doritos Nacho Cheese liquor, can't legally be called a vodka or a gin because they don't follow the specific standards of those beverage categories. <div type="image" title="Doritos liquor" height="3024" width="4032" msid="105934076" hostid="261" sizebytes="363248"></div>Years ago, a colleague of Williams had come into the distillery from lunch with a bag of Doritos. Inspired, Williams blended the Doritos as a distiller would use botanicals to make a gin, and thought the taste perfectly encapsulated the experience of eating a Dorito. Empirical had offered samples to friends and guests that came to visit the distillery. The company later connected with Pepsi, the maker of Doritos. <h2>Bold flavors are becoming more popular</h2>Liquor flavors of late have included glazed donuts, bacon, tobacco, and cookie dough. Doritos makes everything from spicy pineapple jalapeño to ketchup-and-mustard flavored chips. In the past few years, Pepsi has experimented in the alcohol beverage space with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.foodandwine.com/news/lays-potato-chip-vodka">vodka made partly from Frito-Lay's potatoes</a> and an <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alcoholic-mountain-dew-set-to-launch-in-early-2022-2021-8">alcoholic Mountain Dew</a> made with the brewer of Sam Adams. "There's really no limit on flavor and the flavors that you can put on spirits and chips," Courtney Larson, senior director of marketing for Doritos, said. "It's just pushing those boundaries to figure out what's too far." I asked if that meant there'd be a Doritos Cool Ranch liquor in the future and was told there are no plans for it.<h2>I may never drink my Doritos again</h2>After sampling the Doritos Nacho Cheese liquor, I don't think I'll have it again, and I don't think I'd recommend it to others. The biggest barrier is the cost: $65, a tough price to stomach with so many exceptional liquors sold at that price point. Later, though, as I started eating a bag of Doritos chips, I couldn't help but dive in for seconds and thirds. They're delicious.

The Delhi Cabinet may take a rational decision on the proposal this month, <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/cities/delhi-news/delhi-govt-may-give-nod-to-home-delivery-of-liquor-in-the-capital-101652127460746.html">according to Hindustan Times report.</a> According to the official government procedures, it is mandatory to notify the excise policy at the start of every financial year. It has remained the same in the last few years, however, it was restructured last year by the Delhi government. It added the definition of new zones and included a one-time charge at the time of bidding for vends. “If anyone home-delivers liquor as of now, it will be deemed illegal," said an excise official. The new 2021 rules stated that shops with L-13 license will be allowed to deliver both Indian and foreign alcohol/liquor to the homes of people, only if the order is received through an online web portal or app. However, this rule restricts all deliveries to hostels, offices or institutions. “Home deliveries have to be envisaged and built as a separate channel. It has a cost involved, and if it is force fitted, one of the current supply chain participants — manufacturer, distributor, retailer or consumer — will have to absorb it. That is a disincentive. Therefore, for home deliveries to succeed, an altogether new parallel distribution chain is needed which has provisions for costs and reasonable returns for all its participants,” said Vinod Giri, director general of the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC). The existing policy also allows vendors to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/cheap-liquor-in-delhi-is-a-thing-of-the-past-now/articleshow/89919730.cms">give discounts</a> on liquor, however, it was discontinued by the Arvind Kejriwal-led government in February, as the discounts were attracting a lot of crowd outside liquor shops, violating COVID-19 rules and regulations. On April 2, the Delhi government allowed the vendors to offer a maximum 25% discount on the retail price. The new excise policy is still a work in progress, and reports suggest it will be announced soon. “The department has submitted some proposals for the consideration of the cabinet. It will not be a new policy but a revised one which will try to address the challenges which were identified during the implementation of the existing policy (2021-22). There is a significant potential for revenue augmentation and also providing a decent standard of customer experience at par with the stature of the national capital," an unnamed official was quoted as saying by the report. The policy document also proposed to reduce the legal drinking age from 25 years to 21 years in parity with neighbouring cities. However, it doesn’t highlight the home delivery access as part of excise rules. Stocks of United Spirits were at Rs 527.65 per share, lower by Rs 13.95 or 2.58 per cent from the previous close. United Spirits produces the brands Black Label, Black Dog and 'Smirnoff' vodka among others. Further, the scrip of <keyword id="81868" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="United-Breweries">United Breweries</keyword>, the maker of the '<keyword id="6360137" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kingfisher">Kingfisher</keyword>' brand of beer, also fell around two per cent. "The Delhi government has levied a Special Corona Fee -- 70 per cent of the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) -- on all categories of liquor from the consumer at the Point of Sale by the retail vend licensees for consumption off the premises, which will be further reimbursed to the Government," the order signed by Deputy Commissioner (Excise) said.
