Delhiites guzzled over one crore bottles of liquor worth more than Rs 218 crore during week-long celebrations and partying spanning Christmas eve to New Year eve, officials said. The highest liquor sale, of 20.30 lakh bottles, was reported in the national capital on December 31, the New Year Eve. The city gulped down liquor worth Rs 45.28 crore on the day welcoming the new year, a senior <keyword id="6382936" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Excise-Department" source="Orion">Excise department</keyword> official said on Monday. A record 1.10 crore bottles of liquor of different types, mostly whiskies, were sold in Delhi during December 24-31. The sold volume of liquor was worth Rs 218 crore, he said. Official figures showed December 2022 recorded an average sale of 13.8 lakh liquor bottles in Delhi, the best year-end sale in the last three years. The Delhi government earned a revenue of Rs 560 crore from liquor -- excise duty and value added tax -- in December 2022, data showed. The sale of liquor in Delhi during December month was 12.55 lakh bottles in 2019, 12.95 lakh in 2020 and 12.52 lakh in 2021 and 13.77 lakh in 2022. Presently, liquor is being sold in the city through around 550 liquor vends run by four Delhi government undertakings. It is also available at bars in more than 900 hotels, pubs and restaurants across the city. The Excise Department ended 2022 on a high note with a record sale, though the year posed many challenges for it including a CBI probe into implementation of Excise Policy 2021-22 that was scrapped by the government. The festival season, also including liquor sale on Diwali, yielded good returns in the form of excise revenue to the department. During Diwali in October 2022, over 48 lakh bottles worth over Rs 100 crore were sold in Delhi. As per the Excise Department data, 14.7 lakh bottles worth Rs 28.8 crore were sold in the city on December 24, 2022. December 27 recorded the least number of liquor bottles sold in Delhi during the recent season with little less than 11 lakh bottles worth Rs 19.3 crore purchased by consumers. At least it should start at three digits; otherwise, everyone can afford it," he wrote.A user from Hubei also took issue with the low cost, writing, "39 yuan is not worthy of the name Moutai; even if there is no market, it must be at least 399."However, others embraced the affordable pricing. One of the reasons behind this is the ever-evolving business landscape – for instance, while cloud kitchens have been around in informal setups for a long time now, the formal sector has only caught up recently largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With many of these cloud kitchen companies coming under the ambit of GST due to an explosion in popularity, it’s important to understand how the government looks at them, so they can collect GST at the applicable rate. To clear the confusion and clarify what rate of GST is applicable on many of these services, the government has issued a circular that goes into each category’s detail. Here is a summary: <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Cloud kitchens are restaurants" comment="subhead" text="Cloud kitchens are restaurants">Cloud kitchens are restaurants</cmsannotation> The GST council has clarified in its circular that cloud kitchens provide the same services that a restaurant does, and as such, they would be covered under the definition of a restaurant under the act. This includes regular restaurants, cafes, takeaway services, room services and food delivery services. This means that cloud kitchen firms will have to charge GST at the rate of 5%, without taking any input tax credit (ITC), under the GST composition scheme. Alternatively, they can charge GST at the rate of 18% if they want to claim input tax credit. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Ice cream parlours are not restaurants" comment="subhead" text="Ice cream parlours are not restaurants">Ice cream parlours are not restaurants</cmsannotation> Another important aspect that affects consumers directly is whether ice cream parlours are to be considered as restaurants or not. The council observed that ice cream parlours do not engage in any form of cooking at any stage, and as such, are not covered under the scope of restaurants. Jabalpur, May 27 () The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday granted three days to the state government to furnish the terms of the Excise policy and certain documents related to agreements with the licensees (liquor contractor or sellers). The HC allowed the state government's prayer to file the affidavit furnishing these details by May 30, the petitioners' counsel Rahul Diwakar said. He said the petitioners (liquor vendors) reiterated in the court on Wednesday their demand for a direction to the state government for re-auction of the bids for liqour sale. State Advocate General sought time to file an affidavit mentioning various terms of the Excise policy and to place on record the copy of the agreement inked with the licensees at the time of auction, Diwakar said. A division bench of the high court, comprising the Chief Justice A K Mittal and Justice V K Shukla, allowed the prayers of the government and granted time to it to file such details by May 30, he added. The court was hearing the petition filed by 30 liquor contractors from various parts of the state, seeking direction for either revision of the terms and conditions of their contract or recall of the entire bidding process of liquor sale for the current fiscal in view of the market situation arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thiruvananthapuram/Kannur, May 25 (): Three magistrates and at least 150 people, including several police personnel, have been sent into quarantine in two districts in Kerala after three remand prisoners tested positive for COVID-19,officials said. Two remand prisoners are from Kannur while one is from Thiruvananthapuram, they said. While one prisoner had been arrested from his home in Kannur on a police woman's complaint, another remand prisoner had surrendered before the Payyanur magistrate court in an Arms case onMay21. After the sample test results of the two were found positive for the infection, two magistrates, court officials and 26 police personnel have gone into quarantine. According to officials, in Thiruvananthapuram, an accused, who was arrested along with two others in connection with a case relating to the illicit transportation of liquor two days ago, tested positive following which a magistrate and over 34 police personnel have been asked to go into quarantine. Nathan Fielder's comedy show involves convincing guests that he is there to help their small businesses flourish and then offering ridiculous suggestions. Although guests are frequently perplexed by his suggestions, they think they are on a business turnaround reality show, not a comedy show, and they always wind up going through with it. The fact that so many small business owneres are willing to appear on "reality" television to help their company says a lot about America's<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-06-13/where-the-growth-is-in-management-consulting"> $40 billion management consulting industry</a>.
Some of Nathan's ideas are so ludicrous that they actually work, while many fail for that same reason. The comedy often stems from the business owners and unsuspecting customers' recations to his tactics, as Nathan himself remains as straight-faced as humanly possible. 
Below are five examples of "Nathan for You" business plans that received mixed results: 
5. Selling poo-flavored frozen yogurt. The very first episode of "Nathan For You" opens with Nathan pitching to a Los Angeles-based frozen yogurt shop owner about how he could get more customers in the door if he implemented a "crazy" new flavor that would be so outrageous that people would flock to the establishment just to see the madness for themselves. While it's not an effective long-term plan, Nathan's stunt did bring in customers.

4. Rebranding a caricature artists as an insult comic. In an effort to help veteran caricature artist Greg Dohlen make a name for himself, Nathan comes up with a plan to turn him into "the king of sting", as he believes people want to laugh at themselves. This is one instance where Nathan's silly scheme actually works, as all of Greg's customers seem delighted by his offensive drawings. 

3. Allowing attractive people to shoplift. In an attempt to put a positive spin on a clothing store owner's shoplifting problem, Nathan comes up with the brilliant idea of allowing attractive, "trend-setting" people to steal one item. In order to determine who or who is not attractive, Nathan has the store owner and her employees compile a list of attractive traits and hires a security guard to enforce them. Hilarity ensues as the lovably awkward security guard does his best to pick and choose who qualifies as attractive. The idea here, that allowing attractive people to steal will inspire more "less attractive" customers to shop there, is pretty flimsy, so it's no surprise that it doesn't really work. 
 
2. "Selling" alcohol to underagers. When a liqour store owner reveals that he turns down a lot of teenagers attempting to buy alcohol, Nathan comes up with a plan that allows the store to legally "sell" alcohol to minors without actually giving it to them. By accepting the sale and putting their purchased booze in a storage room for them to pick up when they turn 21, Nathan has found a loophole that technically allows the store owner to "sell" to teens. Despite Nathan's best efforts to accomodate the angry customers, this plan angered more patrons than it amused. 

1. Staging a fake movie shoot to get people to buy souvernirs. In what may be his masterpiece, Nathan attempts to bring more customers into a struggling LA souvernir shop by setting up a fake movie shoot inside the store. The plan is to offer consumers a role in the film as paying customers and thus trick them into spending their actual money during the shoot. The genius behind this bit is just how far Nathan takes it - to make it appear legitimate, he hires a Johnny Depp impersonator and actually decides to make the movie to avoid potential legal troubles. Nathan's riotous plan actually works, as tons of excited Depp fans jump at the opportunity to be an extra in the film and shell out real dollars to do so. It truly has to be seen to be believed.
