Vegrow was founded in April 2020 by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) alumni Praneeth Kumar, Shobhit Jain, Mrudhukar Batchu and Kiran <keyword id="50744" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Naik">Naik</keyword>, who have varying experience in the agri sector. Kumar and Jain started their career at fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) giant ITC’s agribusiness division, whereas Batchu and Naik were directly involved in farming. The company works with small-hold farmers on a profit sharing model and offers assistance across various stages of the farming cycle using technology. Vegrow provides a technology platform to farmers, which can be used to get high quality farm inputs and best farming practices. The platform also enables farmers to sell their harvest to the right buyers for the right price. The B2B startup claims to help farmers in getting higher returns, reducing supply-chain wastage and improving procurement for wholesalers. The company’s founders have emphasised that the new funding will help Vegrow to expand to 100 new cities, invest in technology and launch new products. The company claims to be one of the largest companies for pomegranates in the country in less than a year. Meanwhile, Lightspeed’s partner Vaibhav Agrawal said that companies building a tech-enabled marketplace between farmers and buyers could help eliminate inefficiencies and would have large market opportunities eventually. “Additionally, many marketplaces have scaled up on negative unit margins in this category, so we were really impressed by the growth and positive unit margin Vegrow has demonstrated using its technology-oriented approach to standardise quality, minimise inventory and retain farmers,” Agrawal added. The biopharmaceutical giant, along with its partner BioNTech, was one of the first to develop a marketable vaccine for COVID-19 using nascent mRNA technology. It was one of the fastest developments of a vaccine for modern medicine, forcing execs to ask what's next for a company that had shown it could compress the drug-creation process. Pfizer, which has said it expects to pull in <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/pfizer-sales-climb-again-on-covid-19-products-11659009771">$32 billion</a> in sales from its COVID vaccine this year, knows that it's set a high standard for innovation, collaboration, and R&amp;D. COVID-19 forced a "paradigm shift" within the company, where execs and employees alike had to think and act differently, according to Pfizer's Uwe Schoenbeck, chief scientific officer of external research, development, and innovation. "Pfizer's pandemic response focused on external partnership, reduction of bureaucracy, and a purpose-driven culture," Schoenbeck told Insider. "It taught us that what seems impossible at one point in time can be achieved, but also that it requires us to do things differently."For Pfizer, priorities for the future include using mRNA technology to develop vaccines for other diseases like respiratory syncytial virus, known as RSV, the flu, as well as better treatments for cancer. The mRNA, or messenger RNA, technology <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/mRNA.html?s_cid=11344:mrna%20vaccine:sem.ga:p:RG:GM:gen:PTN:FY21">instructs cells to generate a protein</a> that can then trigger an immune response. This type of technology, along with others, can <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/life-sciences/our-insights/fast-forward-will-the-speed-of-covid-19-vaccine-development-reset-industry-norms">speed up the drug-discovery process. </a>Below is a conversation with Annaliesa Anderson, Pfizer's senior vice president of vaccines research and development. What old ways went out the window because of COVID-19 and what new strategies or new ways of thinking did you adopt? We began communicating much more quickly — not waiting three days for an appointment to meet with someone. We also changed our processes. You're no longer setting a strategy and then sitting back and watching that strategy unfold. You're looking at that strategy and reassessing it as you get new data. We asked ourselves "Does something need to be done in the way that we have done it before? Or can we look at things in a different way?" A big piece of this was the fact that it was a technology that was unproven, mRNA. So we took, I wouldn't say "a risk." I would say "an opportunity" to really validate that technology. What's a top priority at Pfizer in terms of innovation?We now have the proof of concept for mRNA. So that's very exciting. mRNA technology has tremendous potential for other disease areas such as oncology and rare diseases. And so now the question is, "how can we now kind of move this technology into those areas?" The flu is another area that we're working on. We've just started our phase-three study of a quadrant flu vaccine made out of mRNA. We see it has several advantages over current flu vaccines, including higher efficacy.There is rapid change happening in medicine and science. What are you most excited about? Our work on an RSV vaccine for older adults is a great story of partnership and innovation. People have been looking to develop RSV vaccines for over six decades. We've been able to show, in early studies, that our vaccine was highly effective at preventing RSV. We've deployed what we call a "light-speed mentality." Would we have done it so quickly back in the day? No, we wouldn't. Hopefully, the next step is to submit it to the agencies for licensure, and then hopefully be able to have a vaccine that can prevent a really severe disease that has a high burden on healthcare and hospitals. You mentioned a 'light-speed mentality.' Can you explain that? Light-speed mentality is thinking through what's the best way to achieve what we need to achieve in a more straightforward route than we might have normally done it. I think that that will remain pretty constant. I think there's a big interest in vaccines now. We're seeing a lot of smaller companies come through and start to really build some momentum in the vaccine space. So there will continue to be interest there. Pfizer <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/amazon-pfizer-among-companies-pledging-to-hire-20-000-refugees-11663610841">recently pledged</a> to hire 500 refugees as a response to the recent Afghan and Ukrainian refugee crises. How do you expect this to enhance innovation? Diversity is a critical part of what we do. It's through bringing people with diverse experiences, and talents that we can make breakthrough decisions.We're a global company and we make medicines and vaccines for the globe. We need to appreciate the views of different people, whether it's different races, genders, or from different areas of the world. We need to encompass that.

Hospitality major <keyword id="7036155" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="OYO-Hotels-Homes">OYO Hotels &amp; Homes</keyword>' valuation has reached the $9 billion-mark, according to industry sources. The development comes after the latest fundraise of ₹54 crore or $7.31 million from <keyword id="145884" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Media-Ventures-Ltd">Hindustan Media Ventures Ltd</keyword>. In a regulatory filing with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, OYO said that it has raised ₹54 crore ($7.31 million) at a share price of $58,490 as part of its <keyword id="10872902" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="series-f1-round">Series F1 round</keyword>. With over 50 products and more than 500 microservices, the company plans to utilise the capital in strengthening its technology stack for delivering an improved partner and customer experience. <keyword id="183958" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Media-Ventures">Hindustan Media Ventures</keyword> subscribed to OYO's Series F1 Compulsory Convertible Cumulative Preference Shares (Series F1 CCCPS) for cash at an issue price of ₹43.20 lakh per Series F1 CCCPS for an aggregate consideration equivalent to ₹54 crore to Hindustan Media Ventures Limited on a private placement basis. The growth in valuation comes after it dropped to $8 billion last year from $10 billion in November 2019. OYO Hotels &amp; Homes is also backed by investors including the SoftBank Vision Fund, <keyword id="122716" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sequoia-Capital">Sequoia Capital</keyword>, <keyword id="860456" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lightspeed-Ventures">Lightspeed Ventures</keyword>, Airbnb, and Hero Enterprise, amongst others. In October 2019, OYO announced that it had raised $1.5 billion, as part of its Series F funding round. As a part of this round, RA Hospitality Holdings' infused approximately $700 million as primary capital in the company, with the balance of $800 million being supplemented by other existing investors. He said that OYO is on a steady path of resurgence in 2021, the company is seeing signs of recovery in its core markets of India, Europe, and Southeast Asia while sustaining gross margin dollars at pre-Covid levels. OYO's valuation climbs again — hits $9 billion after its latest fundraise of $7 million

Bengaluru, Manufacturing platform <keyword id="7466761" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="zetwerk">Zetwerk</keyword> has raised $120 million (nearly ₹880 crore) in its Series D round led by US-based <keyword id="2779666" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Greenoaks-Capital">Greenoaks Capital</keyword> and <keyword id="455799" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lightspeed-Venture-Partners">Lightspeed Venture Partners</keyword>. <keyword id="136147" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sequoia-Capital-India">Sequoia Capital India</keyword> and Kae Capital also participated in the round, Zetwerk said on Tuesday. This Series D round comes after the company's $21 million Series C round in July 2020, bringing the total equity capital raised by the company to $193 million. Zetwerk raises $120 million from Greenoaks Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners

<ul><li><keyword id="6355725" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-group">Tata group</keyword>’s Nelco is reportedly in final talks with Canadian firm Telesat to bring its Lightspeed satellite broadband internet services in India.</li><li>Both companies plan to ready their <keyword id="10986173" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="satellite-broadband-services">satellite broadband services</keyword> by 2024 in India and globally.</li><li>Tata and Telesat are also working on ways to make their services affordable to users.</li></ul>India may have the second-highest number of internet users in the world but there’s still a large fraction of people especially in the rural areas without access to high-speed internet connectivity. The solution to this problem could be satellite broadband connectivity that will cover even remote areas where telecom towers or fibre connections are hard to reach. There are already three companies planning to provide satellite broadband internet in India, and the latest to join is Tata group’s Nelco. According to a <a href="https://m.economictimes.com/industry/telecom/telecom-news/pact-with-telesat-likely-for-satellite-broadband/amp_articleshow/85190916.cms">report</a> by ET Telecom, Nelco is planning to offer satellite broadband services in India through the Canadian firm Telesat’s Lightspeed brand. Both companies are in the final stages of the arrangement, and plan to offer its services in India by 2024, the report added. Satellite broadband services aim to solve problems that mobile internet or fibre broadband can’t but it’s also the most expensive of the three. Tata and Telesat plan to work on the business-to-business (B2B) model wherein the satellite bandwidth will be offered to telcos so that they can provide to areas where mobile connectivity is weak. The two companies also plan to work on ways to make satellite broadband affordable in India. Telesat’s global plan for satellite broadband services include an investment of almost $5 billion for a constellation of around 298 LEO satellites. Although expensive, LEO satellites offer stronger signals and faster speeds than traditional fixed-satellite networks as they orbit closer to the Earth. Telesat and Tata plan to take things further with their satellite broadband services once the new Spacecom policy that should offer better clarity for LEO satellite systems operators and setting up in-country satellite gateways, is out.
