<ul><li>The Indian life insurer stood fourth on the list by S&amp;P Global based on reserves.</li><li><keyword id="6367143" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="lic" source="Orion">LIC</keyword> has reserves of over $500 billion, as per the report.</li><li>Sector watchers say that Asia is the next major market for growth for <keyword id="6406875" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="life-insurance" source="Orion">life insurance</keyword> companies.</li></ul> Public sector life insurance behemoth, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is the world’s fourth largest insurer based on reserves, as per a report released by S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence. LIC follows Allianz SE, China Life Insurance and Nippon Life Insurance on the list of top largest life insurers. LIC has reserves of $500 billion while Nippon’s reading is at $536 billion. China Life Insurance has $616 billion, and Allianz SE has $750 billion in reserves. Asia accounts for 17 spots on the list of top global life insurers, making it the region with the second-highest number. Mainland China and Japan shared the top spot in Asia with five companies headquartered there. European companies from six countries dominated the list of top 50 global life insurers ranked by life and accident &amp; health reserves, taking 21 spots. Karl Hersch, Deloitte's US insurance leader, expects the life industry to experience tempered levels of growth in the US and Europe in light of macroeconomic factors while seeing more opportunities in emerging markets. "The growth I'm expecting to see is more in the emerging markets where you already have a higher underserved population and there's more opportunity," Hersch said. "There's not a single area in the world that isn't going to be experiencing that wealth transfer. The life insurance industry is not yet ready to address this challenge as it does not have the right products and technology," said Samantha Chow, global leader for the life, annuities and benefits sector at Capgemini. The LIC stock has been on the path of recovery having rallied 20% in the past six months. The past month has seen the stock gain as much as 16% in value. LIC Chairman <keyword id="7568398" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="siddhartha-mohanty" source="Orion">Siddhartha Mohanty</keyword> recently confirmed the imminent establishment of a branch in GIFT City. Currently, LIC has a presence in 14 countries and the decision to establish an office in GIFT City is expected to catalyze further growth in LIC's foreign operations, providing the insurer with an international opportunity.

Only the debutant <keyword id="6368369" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="life-insurance-corporation-of-india" source="Orion">Life Insurance Corporation of India</keyword> -- a public sector company, which came out with an <keyword id="6354763" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ipo" source="Orion">IPO</keyword> earlier this year -- was ranked higher than Reliance at 98 among Indian corporates. It is the 19th year that <keyword id="6484187" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ril" source="Orion">RIL</keyword> has been a part of the Fortune 500 list - much longer than the other private sector companies in India. The Fortune Global 500 list ranks companies by total revenues for their respective fiscal years ended on or before March 31. LIC ranks ahead of Reliance in Fortune's Global 500 list

The Global 2000 ranks the largest companies in the world using four metrics: sales, profits, assets, and market value, Forbes said while releasing the 2023 ranking of the world's top 2,000 companies. JPMorgan, America's biggest bank with USD 3.7 trillion in assets, is at the top of the list for the first time since 2011 and has emerged stronger from this spring's regional banking crisis, with more deposits and opportunistic acquisition of the failed First Republic Bank, it said. <keyword id="6358963" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="warren-buffett" source="Orion">Warren Buffett</keyword>'s Berkshire Hathaway that topped the list last year, fell to the 338th position in the latest list due to unrealised losses in its investment portfolio. Saudi oil behemoth Aramco is at 2nd position followed by three giant-sized state-owned Chinese banks. Technology giants Alphabet and Apple are at 7th and 10th place, respectively. Oil-to-telecom conglomerate Reliance, with sales of USD 109.43 billion and profit of USD 8.3 billion, is the top most-ranked Indian firm at the 45th spot, climbing from the 53rd position it had held in last year's ranking. Reliance was ranked ahead of well-known names like Germany's BMW Group, Switzerland's Nestle, China's Alibaba Group, US-based Procter &amp; Gamble and Japan's Sony. State Bank of India climbed to 77th spot from 105th in the 2022 ranking. HDFC Bank is at 128th position (153 in 2022) and ICICI Bank is at 163 (204 in 2022). Other Indian firms on the list include state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation at 226 and HDFC (232). Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) made its maiden entry at 363 while <keyword id="6357585" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-consultancy-services" source="Orion">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS) slipped to 387th rank from 384 last year. Axis Bank (423), NTPC (433), Larsen &amp; Toubro (449), Bharti Airtel (478), Kotak Mahindra Bank (502), Indian Oil Corporation (540), Infosys (554), Bank of Baroda (586), Coal India (591), Tata Steel (592), Hindalco (660) and Vedanta (687) are other notable Indian firms on the list. In all, 55 Indian firms figured on the list. Three firms of the conglomerate helmed by billionaire Gautam Adani, whose group faced a scathing attack from a US short seller earlier this year that lead to him losing the world's third richest tag, figured in the list. The three Adani Group firms in the list include Adani Enterprises at 1062, Adani Power at 1488, and Adani Ports &amp; Special Economic Zones at 1598. Reliance climbs 8 spots to 45th rank on Forbes' Global 2000 list

But according to the Brand Strength Index (BSI) it's currently India's strongest brand. According to the report's methodology, the brand value is only one part of the story, which is how much the company would be worth in the open market. But, the other facet, is a brand's strength which is based on qualitative rather than quantitative measures to peg companies against their competition. The report explains that while Jio may not be the most valuable, it has a strong foundation in place with its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/two-years-on-reliance-jio-continues-to-dominate-indian-telecom-market-beating-global-giants/articleshow/67380627.cms">marketing investment</a>s, familiarity, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/heres-how-reliance-jio-is-planning-to-increase-its-user-base-and-it-will-definitely-work/articleshow/53298530.cms">loyalty</a>, staff satisfaction and, more importantly, corporate reputation. Winners and losers The Mahindra Group featured in the top 5 for the very first time with its brand value appreciating by 35% to $5.2 billion. It has been working its way through the Indian market but also building in roads in more mature markets like the US, with its IT and financial services businesses. The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), on the other hand, fell by 28 ranks, losing 65% of its brand value. The Tata name is worth $19.5 billion — more than the brand value of LIC and Infosys put together

In order to fund their business plans and meeting the capital requirements, Indian companies garnered Rs 4.32 lakh crore in the financial year 2014-15 through <keyword id="70439" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Private-placement">private placement</keyword> of corporate bonds. 

	An Economic Times report revealed that this mop up was up 60% as against Rs 2.71 lakh crore mopped up by firms in the preceding fiscal 2013-14. This was the highest ever fund raising by companies in a financial year, as per the Prime Database report.
 "On an industry-wise basis, the <keyword id="6354241" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Financial-Services">financial services</keyword> sector continued to dominate the market, collectively raising Rs 3.19 lakh crore or 74% of the total amount. Power sector ranked second with an 8% share (Rs 35,312 crore)," Sanjeev Khandelwal, Prime Database executive director, told the financial daily. During the period, the highest mobilisation through the channel of private placement of debt was by <keyword id="126337" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Power-Finance-Corp">Power Finance Corp</keyword> (Rs 46,920 crore). This was followed by Rural Electrification Corp (Rs 34,538 crore), HDFC (Rs 29,170 crore), <keyword id="6367143" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="LIC">LIC</keyword> <keyword id="100080" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="housing-finance">Housing Finance</keyword> (Rs 24,791 crore), IDFC (Rs 15,114 crore), PGCIL (Rs 10,887 crore) and EXIM Bank (Rs 10,863 crore), as per ET. Despite a rally of 25% in BSE's benchmark <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> last fiscal, Indian companies flocked to the debt route instead of raising capital through public offers, the report added. 

	On the other hand, in the previous year, government organisations and financial institutions mobilised 47% of the total amount, which is less than the 54%.

According to a report by Interbrand, the brand value of the diversified Reliance Industries is at ₹65,320 crore and became the second most-valuable brand. Technology company Jio became the fifth most-valuable company at ₹49,027 crore. While the brand value of Reliance Industries grew at 121% in the last ten years, Jio is a new entrant to the list curated by Interbrand. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), however, retained the top spot as the most valuable brand in India, with a value of about ₹1.1 lakh crore. Infosys and HDFC occupied the third and fourth positions on the list. “This year’s Best Indian Brands event highlights the remarkable concentration of brand value among the top three and top five brands, demonstrating their strong impact on the overall landscape. It is an extraordinary moment to witness the ascent of technology brands, securing prominent positions in the top five after a decade,” said Ashish Mishra, chief executive officer, Interbrand India and South Asia. The total brand value of the top ten brands, amounting to ₹4.95 lakh crore, exceeds the combined value of the remaining 40 brands on the list, which amounts to ₹3.36 lakh crore. “With a total brand
