LG Electronics India celebrated its 18th anniversary today with its LG Life’s Good Happiness Study. 
 
The Korean electronics brand arrived in the country in January 1997, and has expanded its products base to segments across consumer electronics, IT hardware and mobile communications. 
 
The event was graced by Managing Director Soon Kwon, Chief Marketing Officer Niladri Datta and TV Star Mandira Bedi. 
 
“We believe in making consumer experience more seamless and enjoyable. There’s a continuous endeavor from our side to innovate, and design products Indians love”, Niladri Datta, Corporate Marketing Head, LG Electronics India said.

LG Electronics just turned eighteen in India

Nestle India MD Etienne Benet will be 'relocating' to Switzerland after he failed to handle the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/MaggiBan-Nestle-discontinues-Maggi-from-the-market-Nestle-employees-keeping-mum/articleshow/47551932.cms">Maggi</a> crisis suitably and he is not the first one. Companies in India are cracking down on their top executives, who are failing to deliver. 
 
 
Earlier this month, $56 billion Korean giant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Meet-LG-Indias-new-head-whos-mission-is-to-give-Samsung-a-run-for-its-money/articleshow/48051769.cms">LG Electronics</a> recalled Soon Kwon, the chief of its Indian operations, after the company failed to navigate a sluggish economy and lost out to its arch rival Samsung in terms of sales. He is being replaced by Kim Ki-Wan, executive vice-president of LG's home entertainment overseas sales and marketing group. Kwon is being recalled to LG's headquarters Seoul to take over as global head for information display business. 
 
In 2012, in an unprecedented move, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Honda-to-recall-over-11000-cars-in-India-around-5-million-globally/articleshow/47298632.cms">Honda Motor Co</a> recalled president &amp; CEO Takashi Nagai and marketing head Seki Inaba as the car maker struggled to match the sales of its nimbler rivals. In the same year, Subhinder Singh Prem was removed as Reebok India MD after its parent Adidas pointed out commercial irregularities at Reebok India. In 2013, PepsiCo India head Manu Anand quit suddenly and insiders attributed it to the company losing market share to rival Coke. 
 
"Unlike earlier, India is not an 'emerging' market anymore for global giants. It is one of the most important destinations for global brands due to the sheer size of its population. Moreover, most developed markets are slowing down. Multinationals are not willing to take India lightly anymore. They want their best talent to develop this market," said a senior executive with a reputed head-hunting firm. 
 
Nestle is not the first company in India to face flak due to safety concerns. Food and beverage giants such as, Coca-Cola, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/PepsiCo-India-facing-HR-challenge-with-top-level-resignations/articleshow/47935915.cms">PepsiCo</a> and <keyword id="6399124" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cadbury">Cadbury</keyword> got embroiled in serious controversies here. In 2003, while the beverage majors were accused of having pesticides in their drinks, confectionary maker Cadbury (now Mondelez) got a shock when worms were discovered in a batch of Dairy Milk chocolates. In all the cases, the respective businesses suffered. Cadbury's sales plunged nearly 30% when its sales usually rise 15%. However, CEOs of all the companies were not removed. India no place for top executives who fail to deliver

New Delhi, Mar 31 () To help authorities and people increase preparedness against Covid-19, electronic majors Samsung and LG have pledged to offer products and protective equipment like surgeon gown, face masks, glove, refrigerators, water purifiers, among others, to hospitals. LG Electronics India on Tuesday said it has also partnered with Akshaya Patra Foundation to sponsor one million meals to migrant labourers and daily wage workers, who are struggling amid the 21-day lockdown in the country. "With the rise in confirmed cases of COVID-19, LG has taken a pledge to support India's fight against the pandemic. LG is committed to offer active support to people in need in this current situation," it said in a statement. LG Electronics India will donate products like water purifiers, air conditioners, refrigerators and TVs to the hospitals for their quarantine/isolation wards, covering 50 state and district hospitals across the country. Samsung India, on the other hand, will provide preventive kits to hospitals, which includes a surgeon gown, face mask, gloves, preventive eye wear, hood cap and shoe cover. It will also provide infra-red thermometers and public addressal systems that can be used by the authorities at hospitals and other facilities, along with air purifiers in medical facilities. The India unit of Samsung said it will also support local police by providing cooked food packets to local communities around its manufacturing facility. "Samsung is committed to work together with the people of India in this hour of difficulty. Over the last few days, our teams have engaged round-the-clock with various governments, local authorities, and healthcare professionals to prepare a broad and meaningful strategy to win this battle together," Samsung India in a statement. COVID-19 infection, which originated in Wuhan in China, has spread across the world and claimed around 34,000 lives. Countries like South Korea, Spain, Italy, Iran and the US have been badly hit. In India, the total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 1,251, while the death toll touched 32. To combat the spread, the government had announced a 21-day lockdown that ends on April 14. Corporate India has been rushing in to help the government and citizens fight the covid-19 pandemic in India. Tata Trusts &amp; Tata group together have pledged Rs 1,500 crore - by far the highest by any corporate. Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani has also committed a further Rs 500 crore to the Prime Minister's COVID-19 fund, topping up over the multi-crore initiative of India's first coronavirus hospital, meals to the needy, and fuel to emergency vehicles. Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys, has committed Rs 100 crore, while a number of other companies are also extending support efforts towards fighting COVID-19 in India. "In these precarious and uncertain times, LG India believes in helping and supporting the Government &amp; citizen of India with a meaningful contribution. Our initiative is designed to help those in need and contribute to society, at this critical juncture in a positive way. The company sold the smartphone in weekly flash sales, and quite often, it ran out of stock within seconds of the start of the sales.  Going beyond smartphones While Xiaomi has built a wide portfolio of products in India over the course of the last few years, Realme’s primary products remain smartphones and accessories. That seems to be changing now. Realme CEO Madhav Sheth <a href="https://www.gsmarena.com/realme_fitness_band_teased_at_5i_launch-news-40946.php">teased</a> the company’s first fitness band at the launch of its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/realme-5i-quad-rear-cameras-launched-india/articleshow/73169607.cms">latest budget smartphone</a>. Expected to launch in the first half of 2020, the Realme fitness band could be priced aggressively to compete with Xiaomi’s Mi Band range. <div type="image" title="Realme Band" msid="73191235" hostid="261"></div>

Going by Realme’s history so far, the first Realme TVs could compete with Xiaomi’s Mi TV models in most aspects. The launch of Realme TVs in India might not change the landscape much, though. Xiaomi’s Mi TV portfolio is spread across different price segments, starting at ₹12,499 and going all the way up to ₹47,999. This gives both Xiaomi and Realme enough room to exist simultaneously, unlike the budget smartphone segment which has cutthroat competition. For the premium TV buyers, though, Smart TVs from Xiaomi and Realme may not even matter even though they offer plenty of features at a fraction of the price. For one, the display quality and viewing experience on TVs from Sony, LG, Samsung and even OnePlus is far superior. If a recent report by MoveInSync is to be believed, on an average, Indians spend 7% of their day in commuting to their workplaces. With more and more people spending more time outside their homes, out-of-home (OOH) advertising presents a huge opportunity for brands to come up with larger-than-life communications and hook on the audience with its messaging. It therefore doesn’t come as a surprise that the Indian outdoor industry has been seeing a steady growth of between 10-11% in the past few years. According to Statista, the industry is expected to become worth Rs 5,200 crore by 2024. The past few years have also seen many new-age brands from OTT and e-commerce spend big bucks on OOH, realizing the potential of the medium. Laqshya Media Group has been a part of the OOH ecosystem for 20 years now and has worked for an impressive roster of brands over the years that include Maruti, LG, Quikr, Myntra, Shopper Stop, Platinum Guuild, a Tanishq and Flipkart, among others. We recently caught up with Atul Shrivastava, Group CEO and Executive Director, Laqshya Media Group who tells us that the organization that is right now bringing in Rs 500 crore revenue is eying a revenue of Rs 2,000 crore by 2024-25. He tells us about the organization’s roadmap ahead, its growth strategy, and the role that data and technology will play to make the overall ecosystem more robust and accountable. Edited excerpts: Q) 2019 was a year of slowdown for the economy. How was your performance and what are your expectations from 2020? 2019 was a complete roller coaster year. The year was full of surprises and equal shudders. Mega media events like Indian Premier League, the General Elections, and the Cricket World Cup brought some cheer while, there was a bit of cautious spending visible during the onset of Q3. However overall, it was a decent year for us. The growth definitely wasn’t what we expected but we still managed to grow by 15% compared to last year. We are better prepared for 2020 and the year looks promising and we look forward doing some great stuff as the year progresses. Q) Laqshya Media Group is currently operating at revenues of Rs 500 crore. Where do you want to be in the next few years? Right now we are operating at Rs 500 crore and we are targeting Rs 2,000 crore revenue by 2024-25. It all starts with a vision, followed by a plan. We have followed the simple steps of firstly identifying the opportunities and then going after them aggressively. This has led the company to diversify into many other verticals like Digital Marketing, Experiential Marketing, Events and creative apart from advertising through every format. The markets are conducive, infrastructure and opportunities are good and all our verticals are doing great work and projects individually. We continue to believe in the ‘One Laqshya‘ philosophy. Our teams across verticals breed the common passion and belief of ‘Business with Ethics’, it is this that makes us different and we will continue to hold on to it as we spread our wings. Our clients have benefitted immensely from the science and technology that has gone in all the recent campaigns that we have executed for them. SHARP combines diverse data points involving geo-tagged OOH formats, traffic study by a global research agency, multiple databases to arrive at the current profiles of resident and transit population; panel rating points and various other factors, with data on thousands of sites comprising multiple OOH formats. The OOH tool relies on machine learning to deliver AI-optimized recommendations. In short, with this tool, the days of gut feel is over. What we are giving our clients with this software is a full-fledged and full proof ROI. Q) What role will data and technology play in taking Indian OOH to the next level? The future of OOH is only about using the right technology and big data. There’s no dearth to the extent of data available for targeting. The customized level of geo targeting possible is unimaginable. All these and more can be easily executed in the ambit of the rules laid by TRAI on data privacy. Communication would be more impactful and selective with the right use of data and analytics. Digital OOH is anyways driving the OOH growth globally elsewhere. It will surely evolve the Indian landscape too slowly and gradually. Q) What gives Laqshya an edge over other OOH agencies? We have always embraced Research and Technology like no one else. OTT has invested on OOH and has witnessed the impact it has created in their brand building. It has definitely helped OTT players address their concerns of going mass and geo-targeting. OOH delivers the reach while it also helps geo-fence and create impact towards a niche audience. This is what makes OOH a go-to medium for a lot of OTT players. A lot of newer segments like e-commerce and mobile apps are embracing OOH along with government and political spending like never before but, it is the traditional sectors like real estate and retail that continue to hold the lion’s share. Q) How are you, as an organization ensuring there is more accountability, since this has been an issue plaguing the industry for a while. We believe accountability starts from following and adhering to some set practices ourselves. Our MD,Alok Jalan is the Vice Chairman of <keyword id="1094070" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Outdoor-Advertising-Association">Indian Outdoor Advertising Association</keyword> (IOAA) and is very strongly putting across the uniform guidelines that will make processes more transparent. We can expect a lot of consolidation in the industry from the association’s side. Q) What does the OOH as an industry need to do to make advertisers take them more seriously, and put in more money? OOH needs to convey the advantage it brings to any marketer- the larger-than-life canvas for a greater reach and an equally possible customized impact. It addresses both these objective of any brands effectively. Q) How big is the OOH industry in India right now and what is its potential in the next few years? OOH has been quoted to be somewhere between Rs 3,700-3,900 crore currently. We as a group have a detailed research report that summarizes the overall OOH to be around Rs 5,750 crore and the industry has been growing consistently at an average of around 11% .
