The <keyword id="517746" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-space-agency" source="Orion">Indian space agency</keyword> on Saturday at 12.07 a.m. began the 24-hour countdown for the launch of its heavy-lift rocket GSLV Mk III - renamed for this mission as LVM3 M2 - carrying 36 'OneWeb' satellites. The 43.5 metre tall and weighing 644 ton LVM3 M2 rocket is scheduled to blast off from the first second pad at India's rocket port in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 12.07 a.m. on Sunday. "The countdown is in progress smoothly. The gas charging and propellant filling operations of L110 stage are progressing," an Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword>) official told IANS. During the countdown, the rocket and satellite systems will be checked. The fuel for the rocket will also be filled. Normally the <keyword id="517231" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="GSLV-rocket" source="Orion">GSLV rocket</keyword> is used for launching India's geostationary communication satellites. And hence it was named as GeoSynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). The GSLV MkIII refers to the third generation rocket. As the rocket that will fly on Sunday morning will be orbiting the OneWeb satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), the ISRO has renamed GSLV MkIII as LVM3 (Launch Vehicle MkIII). The rocket, just over 19 minutes into its flight, will sling the 36 small broadband communication satellites of Network Access Associated Ltd (OneWeb) in LEO. OneWeb, is a joint venture between India Bharti Global and the UK government. The satellite company plans to have a constellation of about 650 satellites in low earth orbit (LEO) to offer communication services. The LVM3 M2 is a three stage rocket with the first stage fired with liquid fuel, the two strap on motors powered by solid fuel, the second by liquid fuel and the third is the cryogenic engine. The ISRO's heavy lift rocket has a carrying capacity of 10 ton to the LEO and four ton to the Geo Transfer Orbit (GTO). "The total launch mass of OneWeb satellites will be 5,796 kg," said ISRO. The 36 satellites will be on a dispenser system made by the Swiss based Beyond Gravity, formerly RUAG Space. The Beyond Gravity had earlier provided the satellite dispensers for launching 428 OneWeb satellites to Arianespace. "The dispenser with 36 satellites was supplied by the vendor. It was used in all their earlier launches," the official told IANS. For Beyond Gravity, this is the first time their dispenser is fitted in an Indian rocket. Starting in 1999, ISRO has put into orbit 345 foreign satellites till date. The successful launch of 36 OneWeb satellites will take the tally to 381. Another set of 36 satellites from OneWeb is planned to be put into orbit in January 2023. This launch brings OneWeb's constellation to 462 satellites, more than 70 per cent of the satellites required for OneWeb to reach global coverage. According to ISRO, the OneWeb Constellation operates in a LEO Polar Orbit. The satellites are arranged in 12 rings (Orbital planes) with 49 satellites in each plane. The orbital planes are inclined to be near polar (87.9 Degree) and at 1,200 km above the Earth. Each satellite completes a full trip around the earth every 109 minutes. The earth is rotating underneath satellites, so they will always be flying over new locations on the ground. The constellation will have 648 satellites. NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL), the commercial arm of ISRO, has signed two contracts with Network Access Associated Ltd (OneWeb) for launching the latter's broadband communication satellites in low earth orbit. The board of OneWeb had voted to suspend satellite launches from the Baikonur rocket port in Russia. Meanwhile, the Sunday rocket mission has several firsts for the Indian space sector. It is the first commercial launch of GSLV MkIII and for the first time an Indian rocket will be ferrying a payload of about six tonnes. Similarly, the OneWeb is using an Indian rocket to put its satellites into orbit for the first time. Also, it is the first commercial launch of GSLV MkIII contracted by NSIL, and for the first time a renamed GSLV MkIII is being used for launching satellites in LEO. Countdown begins for ISRO's historic rocket launch

<keyword id="6355143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sriharikota" source="Orion">Sriharikota</keyword> (Andhra Pradesh), Feb 10 (IANS) India's new rocket Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-D2) on Friday morning lifted off with an earth observation satellite-07 (EOS-07) weighing 156.3 kg. Piggybacking on that are two other satellites -- 10.2 kg Janus-1 belonging to ANTARIS of the US and 8.7 kg AzaadiSat-2 belonging to <keyword id="4136256" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="space-kidz-india" source="Orion">Space Kidz India</keyword>, Chennai. The SSLV-D2 is carrying a total weight of 175.2 kg. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed <keyword id="6864059" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sslv" source="Orion">SSLV</keyword> with a carrying capacity of 500 kg to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) based on the market trend of going in for smaller satellites. At about 9.18 a.m. the 34 metre tall and 120 ton expendable rocket costing about Rs 56 crore broke free of the first launch pad and started its upward one way journey. The rocket with a thick orange flame at its tail slowly gathered speed and went up and up. As to the mission's objectives, ISRO said it is to demonstrate the designed payload capability of SSLV in LEO and injection of three satellites -- EOS-07, Janus-1 and AzaadiSAT-2 -- into the 450 km circular orbit. About 13 minutes into its flight, the SSLV rocket will eject EOS-07 and soon after that the other two satellites Janus-1 and AzaadiSAT-2 would be ejected -- all at an altitude of 450 km, said ISRO. With the new rocket in its portfolio, ISRO will have three rockets -- Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and its variants (cost about Rs 200 crore), Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-MkII cost about Rs 272 crore and LVM3 Rs 434 crore) and SSLV (Development cost of three rockets about Rs 56 crore each) and production cost may go down later. The SSLV's maiden flight -- SSLV-D1- on August 7, 2022 was a failure as the rocket had put the two satellites -- EOS-01 and AZAADISAT -- in a wrong orbit resulting in their loss. According to ISRO, the onboard sensors of SSLV-D1 were affected due to vibrations during the separation of its second stage. While the rocket's software was able to perform the ejection of the satellites, the ejections were done into a wrong orbit. The satellites also lacked necessary velocity to be on a stable orbit and went into oblivion. India's small rocket SSLV-D2 lifts off from Sriharikota with an earth observation satellite

<ul><li><keyword id="10730402" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-space-startup-agnikul">Indian space startup Agnikul</keyword> Cosmos has become the world’s first company to successfully test a fully <keyword id="3176690" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="3D-printed-rocket-engine">3D printed rocket engine</keyword>.</li><li>It only takes four days to produce and can carry payloads of upto 100 kilos into lower earth orbit (LEO).</li><li>While the first company to be successful in such an endeavour, there are others who are fast catching up and realise the value of 3D printed engines versus conventional assembly.</li></ul>Rocket engines are tough to build, and they’re even tougher to 3D print because all the details have to be ‘just right’ for the rocket to work successfully. But, an <keyword id="10031551" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-space-startup">Indian space startup</keyword> based out of Chennai has pulled off this mammothian task. <keyword id="7122982" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="agnikul-cosmos">Agnikul Cosmos</keyword> has successfully fired its higher stage semi-cryogenic <keyword id="413298" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rocket-engine">rocket engine</keyword> called Agnilet. “This entire engine, Agnilet, is just one piece of hardware from start to finish and has zero assembled parts,” said co-founder and CEO Srinath Ravichandran. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Video"><cdata><![CDATA[]]></cdata></div> Normally, rocket engines have 100s of different parts that have to be built individually. This includes things like injectors which inject fuel into the engine, cooling channels that ensure the engine doesn’t overheat and the igniter which actually kindles propellants to push the rocket off the ground. Agnilet, on the other hand, is a three-in-one solution. It takes all three of these modules and puts them into a single piece of hardware. There is no complex assembly and the turnaround time for the entire setup is less than four days. The rocket engine is capable of carrying upto 100 kilos to low earth orbit (LEO), which is around 700 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. That’s only a fraction of what the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) is capable of and possibly only enough to carry a single satellite at most. Agnikul may be the first to be successful, but it’s not alone Agnikul was the first <keyword id="3081463" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-space">Indian space</keyword> startup to enter into a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with the Department of Space (DoS) under the newly established Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe). <div type="image" title="Agnilet - Agnibaan’s higher stage semicryogenic engine(1)" msid="80763882" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Agnilet - Agnibaan’s higher stage semicryogenic engine&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Another space startup that’s hot its heels is Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace founded by former Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword>) scientists Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka. In September last year, they too revealed their fully 3D printer cryogenic rocket engine dubbed Dhawan-I. Dhawan-I will be used to power the Vikram-II rocket, which Skyroot is also building from scratch. The startup entered an NDA with the DoS earlier this month on February 2. They will be able to use ISRO’s test and launch facilities to test their Vikram-I rocket and eventually Dhawan-I as well. The global space industry is expected to generate $1.1 trillion or more by 2040, according to <a href="https://www.morganstanley.com/ideas/investing-in-space">Morgan Stanley</a> — more than triple its current value of $350 billion. And, new space engine technology like 3D printed rocket engines are expected to play a big role in this explosion of value. But even international players like Elon Musk’s SpaceX, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), <a href="https://3dprint.com/278184/startup-accelerator-ursa-major-is-3d-printing-rocket-engines-to-grow-space-economy/">Ursa Major</a> and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin are only 3D printing components for rocket engines. This means that putting together these engines and making sure they work is still a fairly complicated task. The only US-based startup close to producing a fully 3D printed rocket engine is <a href="https://manufactur3dmag.com/firehawk-aerospace-raises-2-million-for-3d-printed-rocket-engines/">Firehawk Aerospace</a>, and they only just raised the $2 million needed to start on their project. Indian space startup fires world’s first fully 3D printed rocket engine as others play catch up

The data it collects will help organisations globally to detect, monitor and predict global phenomena in real-time. “The data from Pixxel’s satellite will be used to solve some of humanity’s most pressing problems today such as flagging pest infestations and crop diseases in time, detecting forest fires early, talking air and water pollution levels, detecting oil spills and gas leaks and mapping large scale geological changes among other things,” said Awais in a statement. The Bengaluru-based satellite imaging startup had joined hands with NewsSpace India Limited (<keyword id="7835598" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nsil">NSIL</keyword>) — the commercial arm of ISRO — after the Modi administration announced new space reforms in 2020. The reforms made way for private players to work with ISRO to take the Indian space sector to the next level. What will the PSLV-C51 be carrying into space? Indian space startup Pixxel won’t be launching its satellite on February 28

<ul><li>The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has plans to launch its very first geo imaging satellite (GISAT 1) on March 5.</li><li>The satellite has five multispectral cameras capable of scanning the entire Indian subcontinent every 30 minutes.</li><li>However, the cameras are not capable of peering past clouds or other obstacles in the sky.</li></ul>A new first for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to take place on March 5. Its plans to launch its very first Geo Imaging Satellite (GISAT 1) designed to enhance real-time observations of India. The satellite was originally scheduled to launch in 2017 aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). However, the project was pushed back due to numerous delays. Now, GISAT 1 will be <a href="https://www.vssc.gov.in/VSSC/images/GSLV/LaunchesPlanned.pdf">launched</a> aboard India’s strongest rocket — the ‘Bahubali’ Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) — from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR in Sriharikota at 5:43 pm.

 Features of the GISAT 1 The aim of the GISAT 1 is to help monitor natural hazards using the 4-meter wide payload’s <a href="http://www.aprsaf.org/annual_meetings/aprsaf19/pdf/program/day3/5_CountryReport_Dr.Dadhwal.pdf">five multispectral cameras</a>. The cameras are capable of scanning the entire country every 30 minutes at a spatial resolution of 50 meters. However, if a specific area has been selected, the satellite can generate a field image every five minutes.

 The main camera — 700mm Ritchey-Chretien telescope — is based on the design of the Cartosat 2 satellite. The remaining four cameras capture high-resolution multi-spectral and hyper-spectral images. However, unlike previous observation satellites, the cameras aren’t equipped to peer through the cloud cover. This means that they need a cloud-free sky in order to operate efficiently.

 According to <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20190103095037/https://nrsc.gov.in/sites/all/pdf/GISAT-UIM-3Jan2016_V3_Alok_2.pdf">ISRO</a>, the GISAT 1’s cameras are going to, “tap new functionalities hitherto not covered by existing LEO and GEO missions like fast revisit capabilities, real-time monitoring, high resolution multispectral and hyperspectral imaging — all on a single, agile, jitter-free platform.” The GISAT 1 weighs around 2227 kilos and will be placed in geostationary orbit by the GSLV F-10 at an altitude of 35,768 kilometres. ISRO's first geo imaging satellite can scan India every 30 minutes

 Even though the SSLV is based on the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket designs, the actual launch vehicle hasn't been unveiled by <a href="https://www.isro.gov.in/update/01-jan-2019/message-chairmans-desk">ISRO</a> yet. SSLV's maiden voyage As compared the PSLV rocket, which can carry 1,100 - 1,600 kilograms, the SSLV can only accommodate 500 kilograms. And, the launch vehicle's first mission into space won't be a commercial launch with Spaceflight's payload on board. ISRO Chairman K. Sivan, told <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/isros-mini-launcher-sslv-is-unborn-but-has-2-flights-booked/article28859854.ece">The Hindu</a> that first ISRO will first launch a single defence Earth observation spacecraft in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) using the SSLV rocket by the end of the year with the commercial launch scheduled to take place in 2020. The hype around the SSLV rocket is based on the fact that it should only take ISRO around three days to put a launch together as compared to the months of preparation for other launches. NSIL's first customer NSIL might be a new company but Spaceflight is no stranger to using ISRO launch vehicles to get satellites into space. As a 'ridesharing' space company, Spaceflight normally doesn't put its own payloads on board the rockets but arranges for their clients to get their instruments on board. In April 2018, for example, Spaceflight set up 21 small international satellites to launch aboard ISRO's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/here-is-a-list-of-isros-biggest-launches-over-the-last-2-years-that-showcase-indias-space-prowess/articleshow/52401289.cms">PSLV C45</a> rocket. It also arranged for BlackSky Global, its subsidiary, to launch the <a href="http://www.spaceflight.com/spaceflight-industries-celebrates-successful-launch-blacksky-pathfinder-satellite-aboard-indias-pslv/">BlackSky Pathfinder-1</a> aboard another PSLV C35 rocket in 2016. Over the years, Spaceflight has completed a total of nine missions with ISRO and send more than 100 spacecrafts into orbit aboard its launch vehicles. ISRO’s new company just made its first sale to an American firm to come aboard a rocket that doesn’t exist yet

<keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> (ISRO) today successfully launched its heaviest rocket ever—the three-stage Geo-Synchronous <keyword id="6358065" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Satellite">Satellite</keyword> Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mark-III)—with an experimental crew module. With this, the Indian space agency will now be able to send astronauts to explore deep dark web of outer space. 
 The 630-tonne rocket and human crew module of ISRO were lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota exactly at 9:30 am (IST). Few minutes after this, the crew module separated from the rocket at an altitude of 126 km and re-entered Earth's atmosphere (about 80 km from sea level). And then, it descended in a ballistic mode and splashed down into the <keyword id="55869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Bay-of-Bengal">Bay of Bengal</keyword>, some 180 km from Indira Point, which is the southern tip of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, reported PTI. 
 
"This was a very significant day in the history of Indian space programme for the development of the advanced launch vehicle that could carry a 4-tonne class of communication satellite into orbit," ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan said soon after the successful test flight. 
 
This mission has also enhanced India’s capability to be a competitive player in the multi-million dollar commercial launch market. It would envisage multi-mission launch capability for GTO, LEO, Polar and intermediate circular orbits. 
 <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="171378" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Naredra-Modi">Naredra Modi</keyword> took to Twitter to congratulate all ISRO scientists, “Successful launch of GSLV Mk-III is yet another triumph of brilliance &amp; hardwork of our scientists. Congrats to them for the efforts.” 
 
The total budget of the experimental mission carried out by the Indian space agency was Rs 155 crore, and this includes the cost of crew module as well.

ISRO Successfully Test-fires GSLV Mark-III

The <keyword id="119061" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organization">Indian Space Research Organization</keyword>’s latest generation launch vehicle Geosynchronous <keyword id="6358065" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Satellite">Satellite</keyword> Launch Vehicle Mark III (<keyword id="2634202" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="GSLV-Mk-III">GSLV Mk-III</keyword>), which is scheduled to be launched in on December 18, 2014, has successfully completed the 9 hours and 30 minutes launch rehearsal today. The rehearsal was done from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. 
 The <keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword> said on its Facebook page: “All the data would be checked for one last time in the <keyword id="1985504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mission-Readiness-Review">Mission Readiness Review</keyword> planned on Dec 16. Launch, as we said, is planned on December 18.” 
 
GSLV Mk III is conceived and designed to make ISRO completely self-reliant in launching heavier communication satellites of INSAT-4 class, which weigh 4500 to 5000 kg. It would also envisage multi-mission launch capability for GTO, LEO, Polar and intermediate circular orbits. 
 
The first experimental suborbital flight of the GSLV Mk-III will carry solid boosters (S200s), liquid core stage (L110) and a passive cryogenic stage (C25). 
 
As per the ISRO’s official Facebook page, the primary objective of this sub-orbital flight is to validate the complex atmospheric ascent regime of this all new launcher, especially the aerodynamic and control features that cannot be conclusively tested on ground. 
 
In this experimental flight, the GSLV Mk-III would climb up to an altitude of nearly 125 km. To reap benefits out of this opportunity, a CARE (Crew-module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment) Module is planned to be injected at this great height. 
 “The module has been realized to validate a number of technologies developed under ISRO’s Critical Technologies for Human Spaceflight Programme,” the Indian space agency added. It has also planned to recover this module from the <keyword id="55869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bay-of-Bengal">Bay of Bengal</keyword> after the splash down. 
 
With this new vehicle, ISRO aims to boost India’s capability to be a competitive player in the multi-million dollar commercial launch market.
