The Indian government has stepped in and is going to work on a war footing in the wake of hacking of Twitter and personal accounts of Congress Vice-President <keyword id="5268" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rahul-Gandhi">Rahul Gandhi</keyword>, liquor baron <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword>, and senior journalists <keyword id="357957" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Barkha-Dutt">Barkha Dutt</keyword> and <keyword id="319216" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravish-Kumar">Ravish Kumar</keyword> by Legion group. They have also threatened to hack parliament’s website.<br />
<br /> IT Minister <keyword id="6354886" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravi-Shankar-Prasad">Ravi Shankar Prasad</keyword> has called for an audit of entire IT infrastructure and ordered review of the financial sector starting immediately with the National Payment Corporation of India (<keyword id="193629" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI">NPCI</keyword>), review of the IT Act to make it stronger and setting up a crack team to respond to unusual incidents on a war footing.<br />

The government has also asked Twitter and payment wallets to strengthen their network. NPCI is an umbrella organisation for all retail payments system in India.<br />

"There is huge traffic flowing through the IT platforms, if there is any mishap, the systems have to be resilient and we have to take appropriate measures. We have to be alert, there is nothing to be scared of," said Prasad.<br />
<br />
A meeting was also called of bankers and more than 50 officers from IDFC, ICICI, SBI, Canara Bank, etc attended it.<br />
<br />
"We have sought details from all the people whose accounts have been hacked and Twitter has also been asked to strengthen its security and to pay attention to any unusual movement," Prasad told ET.

Italian police also surveilled Telegram channels affiliated with the hacker groups to trace their location, the outlet reported. </p><p>Killnet threatened to "send 10 billion requests" to Eurovision's online voting system and "add votes to some other country," according to <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/daveywinder/2022/05/14/eurovision-2022-final-russian-hackers-say-they-can-stop-ukraine-kalush-orchestra-win/?sh=2323e3b971d2">Forbes</a>. </p><p>Last week, Killnet claimed responsibility for hacking the Italian Senate, the upper house of parliament, and the National Health Institute, making it impossible to access websites for the agencies, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/pro-russian-hackers-target-italy-defence-ministry-senate-websites-ansa-news-2022-05-11/">Reuters</a> reported. Italian authorities said the cyberattacks were "serious incidents," noting that they did not cause any damage. </p><p><keyword id="11894337" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="russia" source="Orion">Russia</keyword> was banned from participating in Eurovision following the Kremlin-ordered invasion of Ukraine, according to Forbes.</p><p>On Saturday, Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra won the contest, prompting a promise from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Ukraine will host the next Eurovision contest. </p><p>"Our courage impresses the world, our music conquers Europe!" Italy thwarted cyberattacks from pro-Russian hackers during the Eurovision Song Contest

After hacking Twitter accounts of Rahul Gandhi and Vijay Mallya, hacker group Legion is now going to target parliament’s website.<br />

The hacker group, in an encrypted interview, told a tech news website: “Next is a dump of sansad-.nic.in emails. Which is - quite big. It includes a lot of _BIG FISH_.”<br />
<br /> The <keyword id="1334314" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Parliament-website">parliament website</keyword> has email services to government employees. Besides, in an interview with Washington Post, a Legion member claimed to have access to servers of Apollo chain of hospitals, etc.<br />

"We... ourselves have confidential data pertaining to NPCI /IDRBT (hub servers, and even have the encryption keys/ certificates used by some banks in India," Legion said.<br />

In interviews to Washington Post and Factor-Daily.com, they spoke about weak data security practices. The hacker who spoke with the Post described the group as a "bunch of computer g33kz addicted to crime and drugz".<br />

In an interview to Washington Post, Legion said their objective was to put "as much classified information out in the public domain as possible".<br />

In another interview to Factordaily-.com, a Legion member responded to a question about possibly targeting BJP, saying: "We will own them too, when the time is right."<br />

Recently, Legion hacked accounts of Vijay Mallya, Rahul Gandhi, and senior NDTV journalists Ravish Kumar and Barkha Dutt. They published 277 files purported to be documents pertaining to Vijay Mallya's personal and financial dealings. These included credit card bills and scanned copies of his passports. In the case of Dutt, they released a "partial" dump of her emails, 1.2 GB in size. When they breached Gandhi's Twitter account, they threatened to release data on Congress as well.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"Hacktivist" collective <keyword id="169875" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="anonymous">Anonymous</keyword> has burst back into public consciousness after a Facebook account purporting to be affiliated with the group published a video calling out the Minneapolis Police Department on May 28.</li><li>Since then, people are attributing events like the Minneapolis Police Department's website temporarily going down to Anonymous. In certain cases, like with the Minneapolis police website, accounts affiliated with the group appeared to take responsibility. </li><li>People have also begun to make Anonymous <keyword id="1605152" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Memes">memes</keyword> and fancams in light of the collective's renewed fame.</li></ul><p>On May 28, a familiar figure in a Guy Fawkes mask broke back into public digital consciousness. By all accounts it seemed like hacktivist group Anonymous was back: a video posted on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/anonews.co/">a Facebook page with approximately 11 million followers</a> that appears to be affiliated with Anonymous brought about what <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-52879000">many heralded</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/14wardi/status/1267151762693279744?s=20">as the return of the group</a>. Per the video, Anonymous has re-emerged amid protests that followed the killing of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.</p><p>Anonymous is a "hacktivist" collective that emerged out of 4chan in the early 2000s. <a href="https://www.wired.com/2011/11/anonymous-101/">Per Wired</a>, the group would conduct "raids" that ranged from <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/telegram-blames-ddos-attack-on-china-2019-6">distributed-denial-of-service attacks</a> to <a href="https://www.insider.com/westworld-reddit-rick-roll-video-spoilers-2018-4">rickrolling</a> people. Wired reports that the group gained a political consciousness while going after the Church of Scientology. Since then, it's gained a reputation for targeting those who misuse power, although the group is decentralized and has no distinguishable command structure — its tagline is "we are legion."</p><p>Now, Anonymous appears to have directly addressed the Minneapolis Police Department. In the video, the Anonymous speaker says, "Police brutality and murder is a widespread problem in the United States, which has undoubtedly infected nearly every jurisdiction in the country. But the Minneapolis Police Department is among the worst and has a horrific track record of violence and corruption." </p><p>The speaker goes on to call for the four officers involved in Floyd's killing to face charges, and for Derek Chauvin, the officer who knelt on Floyd's neck for approximately eight minutes, to face murder charges. Chavuin will <a href="https://www.insider.com/four-minneapolis-police-officers-criminal-charges-george-floyd-death-2020-6">reportedly face second-degree murder charges</a>, and the other three officers will reportedly be charged with aiding and abetting murder.</p><p>The video quickly circulated on social media: it currently has approximately 3.6 million views on Facebook; one tweet featuring a portion of the video currently has approximately 1 million likes.</p><h2><strong>An </strong><strong>Anonymous-affiliated account claimed responsibility for taking down the </strong><strong>Minneapolis Police Department's website </strong><strong><br /></strong></h2><p>On Saturday, May 30, the Minneapolis Police Department website, as well as the City of Minneapolis website, appeared to become unavailable as <a href="https://twitter.com/BrennaBelletti/status/1266951042542886912?s=20">people tweeted</a> about not being able to access them. <a href="https://variety.com/2020/digital/news/anonymous-hackers-minneapolis-police-department-website-george-floyd-1234621332/">Per Variety</a>, access to both sites on Sunday was still shaky, with the sites requiring visitors to verify that they weren't bots via captcha using a front-end hosted by Cloudflare, an internet security firm. Variety reports that the captcha verification was a signal that the sites were sustaining a DDoS — distributed denial of service — attack, which overwhelms sites with traffic.<strong> </strong></p><p>On May 30, people on Twitter quickly connected the Anonymous video and the presumed DDoS attack, heralding Anonymous as having taken down the site. </p><p>On May 31, an Anonymous-affiliated Twitter account attributed the website takedown among other things to the group. </p><p><a href="https://www.dailydot.com/debug/anonymous-chicago-cops-radios-fck-tha-police/?fb=dd">As The Daily Dot reported</a>, reports <a href="https://twitter.com/chloehrubin/status/1266912864226459648?s=20">also emerged on Twitter</a> on May 30 that someone had gotten access to police radio in Chicago and were playing N.W.A.'s "Fuck Tha Police." People were <a href="https://twitter.com/Mayorzy_/status/1267094777457192960?s=20">quick to claim that Anonymous was behind the act</a>.</p><p>Then, word circulated online that Anonymous had leaked the email addresses and passwords of Minneapolis Police, although <a href="https://www.troyhunt.com/analysing-the-alleged-minneapolis-police-department-hack/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TroyHunt+%28Troy+Hunt%29+Hunt%29">security researcher Troy Hunt found</a> that 95% of the data had already been leaked in previous breaches. Then, <a href="https://twitter.com/ChrisKlemens/status/1267105408226693120?s=20">tweets circulated that claimed that Anonymous had leaked documents</a> that allegedly showed that President Trump had been "involved in child rape and sex trafficking with Jeffrey Epstein" (<a href="https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/wxq5mm/anonymous-minneapolis-george-floyd-protests">Vice reported</a> that the documents in question were old and had previously been debunked). There's <a href="https://twitter.com/GersonNickiy/status/1267209331063296008?s=20">also been unconfirmed chatter</a> about Anonymous <a href="https://twitter.com/joyce36461668/status/1267326557359661059?s=20">exposing the "truth"</a> behind the death of Princess Diana.</p><p>Of course, even with the Anonymous-affiliated Twitter account claiming responsibility from some of these acts, none have actually been connected to the group in a tangible way. </p><h2><strong>There are a number of Twitter accounts that claim to be associated with Anonymous</strong></h2><p>Anonymous doesn't appear to have a central, official social media account given the fact that it doesn't have central leadership. Rather, there is a loose collection of accounts claiming to be tied to Anonymous that gained an increasing amount of attention and scrutiny in the days since the video addressing the Minneapolis PD began circulating online.</p><p>One of the most popular Anonymous-branded accounts on Twitter, <a href="https://twitter.com/YourAnonCentral">@YourAnonCentral</a>, paradoxically has both "Official #Anonymous" and "There are no official accounts" in its bio. The account, which has approximately 5.8 million followers, joined Twitter in Sep. 2011; it has recently sustained accusations on Twitter for <a href="https://twitter.com/kellylcouncil/status/1267018011048845314?s=20">being a "fake" Anonymous account</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/ejknoodles/status/1267161384284012544?s=20">people are circulating screenshots</a> of tweets reportedly from the account (at least some appear to have been deleted) containing transphobic rhetoric. Other anonymous accounts include <a href="https://twitter.com/AnonPress">@AnonPress</a> (joined Dec. 2010, approx. 250,000 followers), <a href="https://twitter.com/AnonymousPress">@AnonymousPress</a> (joined Dec. 2010, approx. 591,000 followers), and <a href="https://twitter.com/AnonyOps">@AnonyOps</a> (joined Dec. 2010, approx. 636,000 followers), among others. </p><p>The most popular account claiming to be affiliated with Anonymous is <a href="https://twitter.com/YourAnonNews">@YourAnonCentral</a>, which joined Twitter in April 2011 and currently has 7.1 million followers. 'Hacktivist' group Anonymous is experiencing renewed internet fame after a widely circulated video calling out the Minneapolis Police Department

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"Hacktivists" <keyword id="169875" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="anonymous">Anonymous</keyword> may have been behind a video attacking <keyword id="6355315" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="elon-musk">Elon Musk</keyword>'s cryptocurrency comments. </li><li>The video accuses Musk of constantly trolling the crypto markets with tweets that "destroyed lives."</li><li>It follows an 8% slide in <keyword id="6354947" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="bitcoin">bitcoin</keyword>'s value after Musk hinted at a split with the digital token. </li></ul><p>A YouTube <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UG07x3aN3b0">video</a> claimed to have been made by "hacktivist" group Anonymous targeted Elon Musk for "constantly trolling" cryptocurrency markets.</p><p>The video, which was posted on Saturday, accused the <keyword id="107096" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tesla">Tesla</keyword> CEO of playing with the crypto markets with his tweets.</p><p>A person wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and speaking with a digitally modified voice, said: "For the past several years you have enjoyed one of the most favorable reputations of anyone in the billionaire class because you have tapped into the desire that many of us have to live in a world with electric cars and space exploration."</p><p>The person added: "Recently… people are beginning to see you as another narcissistic rich due who is desperate for attention."</p><p>As <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/daveywinder/2021/06/06/did-anonymous-really-just-threaten-elon-musk-over-viral-bitcoin-tweets/?sh=62abffea3279">Forbes pointed out,</a> however, it's not easy to verify whether the video was genuinely posted by Anonymous. The outlet noted the most popular Twitter Anonymous account, <a href="https://twitter.com/YourAnonNews" target="_blank" title="https://twitter.com/YourAnonNews" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">YourAnonNews</a> has already denied being behind the video.</p><p>When asked if they could confirm the video was published by them, <a href="https://twitter.com/YourAnonNews/status/1401231247058296839" target="_blank" title="https://twitter.com/YourAnonNews/status/1401231247058296839" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">the tweeted response</a> was: "Again, all the best - but no," Forbes reported.</p><p>There's no doubt though that Musk is very vocal when it comes to the subject of cryptocurrencies. Over the last few months, he has tweeted to comment on various crypto tokens. On some occasions, their values have either plunged or soared following his tweets. </p><p>Most recently, Musk signaled a potential split with bitcoin by <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1400620080090730501?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">posting a broken-heart emoji</a> to Twitter, after which the cryptocurrency slid by <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/news/bitcoin-price-elon-musk-tweets-potential-split-broken-heart-emoji-2021-6-1030494264">as much as 8%</a> on Friday.</p><p>His tweet came three weeks after Tesla <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-bans-bitcoin-xayments-due-to-impact-on-environment-2021-5#:~:text=Insider's%20business%20page.-,Tesla%20has%20suspended%20vehicle%20purchases%20made%20using%20bitcoin%2C%20according%20to,tweet%20from%20CEO%20Elon%20Musk.&amp;text=Cambridge's%20Centre%20for%20Alternative%20Finance,since%20the%20beginning%20of%202020.20of%202020.">suspended bitcoin payments</a> over the negative environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining. </p><p>The hacking group claimed that his "erratic" public behavior in relation to cryptocurrencies "show a clear disregard for the average working person." </p><p>The video targeting Musk gained more than a million views in 24 hours. It ended by saying: "You may think you are the smartest person in the room, but now you have met your match. We are Anonymous! We are legion. Expect us." </p><p>Anonymous is a loosely affiliated group of hackers specializing in everything from data retrieval to network shutdowns. </p><p>It experienced renewed internet fame last year after a video calling out the Minneapolis Police Department went viral, <a href="https://www.insider.com/anonymous-minneapolis-police-department-video-fancams-memes-epstein-twitter-2020-6">as Insider reported</a>. </p>

"That's when I really started work on the movie."</p><p>Knappenberger - who previously made the movies "The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz," on internet activist Aaron Swartz, and "We Are Legion," about the hacker group Anonymous - got in touch with Denton and Gawker editor-in-chief (who also posted the Hogan sex tape video) A.J. According to the movie, Adelson had a vendetta with the paper's columnist John L. Smith, who wrote unflattering things about him in a 2005 book. Smith was even ordered after the paper was bought that he was never to write about Adelson in any of his pieces. </p><p>For Knappenberger, there's no other way to look at it: The suppression of the media by billionaires is happening. But it was the election of Donald Trump as president that influenced the movie the most.</p><p>"It went from cautionary to holy f---," Knappenberger said. "Calling reports scum, calling them vile, slime, it's just a regular feature in his speeches. The blacklisting of the press... This is a clear intimidation of the press. I think all of that is scary."</p><p>Knappenberger said he doesn't see the press lying down and playing dead, but he hopes the new administration will be a wake-up call to the media to be on their game.</p><p>"The press should be adversarial, should be confrontational, should be questioning those in power, that's the role of the press," he said.</p><p>And that's why Knappenberger believes the loss of Gawker is such a huge blow for journalism. As one former Gawker editor says in the movie, "If you're not pissing off a billionaire, what's the point?"</p><p>"Yeah, they insulted people, but why is there not a place for that in this media environment?" Knappenberger said. "This is free speech. We protect hate speech. We protect a lot that one side or the other doesn't like. Thiel's response that Gawker is a 'singular, sociopathic bully' is absurd. That is only true if you live in a world without Facebook or Twitter."</p><p>When speaking to Knappenberger before the movie's world premiere at Sundance, the director wasn't too nervous about Thiel or Adelson's representatives showing up with legal papers. "We're ready for it," he said (none were ever given). But he added, the bigger issue is getting people to understand that the loss of the free press is "the most important thing facing our country."</p><p>"Lots of other films at Sundance have legitimate causes and important things and I wouldn't say this is more important than those causes," he said, "it's just that you can't do anything about those causes unless you have this first. Free speech, First Amendment rights. As one former Gawker editor says in the movie, "If you're not pissing off a billionaire, what's the point?"</p><p>"Yeah, they insulted people, but why is there not a place for that in this media environment?" Knappenberger said. "This is free speech. We protect hate speech. We protect a lot that one side or the other doesn't like. Thiel's response that Gawker is a 'singular, sociopathic bully' is absurd. That is only true if you live in a world without Facebook or Twitter."</p><p>Knappenberger isn't too nervous to show the movie on Tuesday. If any legal documents are sent from Thiel or Adelson's representatives, he said, "We're ready for it," but he added the bigger issue is getting people to understand that the loss of the free press is "the most important thing facing our country."</p><p>"Lots of other films at Sundance have legitimate causes and important things and I wouldn't say this is more important than those causes," he said, "it's just that you can't do anything about those causes unless you have this first. Free speech, First Amendment rights. A new documentary about the Gawker vs. Hulk Hogan trial will change how you see the case

<p>The company sells the "Smart TV," an Android-powered HDMI "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-a-dongle-2013-3">dongle</a>" which promises to turn every television into a smart, web-connected device. We wrote that the company faces "legions of unhappy customers, alleged threats from hacking group Anonymous, and a forgotten co-founder who claims to have been unfairly ousted. It's also being accused of selling a product that is just a rebranded version of something available from a Chinese company."</p>
<p>Equiso CEO Adam McBride issued us this statement in response to the story.</p>
