<ul class="summary-list"><li>Netflix's new drama "Griselda" is about the rise and fall of Miami's "godmother of cocaine" Griselda Blanco.</li><li>The show, released Thursday, depicts how Blanco orchestrated multiple murders to secure her success.</li></ul>Netflix's latest drama <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/griselda-netflix-cast-real-life-sofia-vergara-karol-g-2024-1">"Griselda,"</a> released Thursday, has quickly overtaken the No. 1 spot on the streamer's list of top TV shows.The series is a fictionalized look at the life of Griselda Blanco, starring <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sofia-vergara-says-acting-jobs-limited-because-of-accent-griselda-2024-1">Sofia Vergara</a> in the title role. Known as the "godmother of cocaine" in Miami, Blanco was previously made famous by the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-cocaine-cowboys-documentary-franchise-was-created-2021-8">"Cocaine Cowboys" documentaries</a>. Vergara, who physically transformed herself to step into Blanco's shoes, also executive produced the six-episode limited series, which tracks Blanco's rise in the 1970s and 1980s to becoming one of the most powerful and ruthless drug dealers of all time.In addition to effectively introducing cocaine to Miami, the authorities who eventually prosecuted Blanco believed her to be responsible for ordering "dozens" of murders, according to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.miamiherald.com/latest-news/article1942452.html">Miami Herald.</a>"She was a complete sociopath. She murdered people at the drop of a hat. She would kill anybody who displeased her, because of a debt, because they screwed up on a shipment, or she didn't like the way they looked at her," assistant US attorney Stephen Schlessinger told the Herald in 2012.But Blanco, who was shot and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/sep/04/godmother-cocaine-shot-dead-colombia">killed</a> by an unknown gunman outside of a butcher shop in Medellín, Colombia, in 2012, was also the mother of four sons. Two of her sons, Osvaldo and Dixon, were in jail at the same time their mother was and were paroled in 1992. According to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/local/longterm/drugs/rayful.htm">The Washington Post</a>, Osvaldo was killed in a Colombia nightclub later that same year, as depicted in the Netflix series.Miami filmmaker Billy Corben, who co-produced and directed the "Cocaine Cowboys" documentaries, wrote about Blanco's death for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.vice.com/en/article/3b5jz8/griselda-blanco-so-long-and-thanks-for-all-the-cocaine">Vice</a> in 2012, noting at the time that she was survived by her sons Dixon and Michael.The Miami-Herald report on Blanco's death in 2012 noted that two of Blanco's sons were assassinated in Colombia before her death. According to a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ft.com/content/9b10307b-b53b-41c5-8182-2ad3a3bece2d">Financial Times report</a> on Wednesday, two top GS bankers were noticeably left off the IB committee, which doesn't wield the same powers or influence as the bank's management committee, but has nevertheless been framed as a launchpad for the bank's future leaders.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/goldman-sachs-announces-new-leadership-for-ma-group-2020-9">Mark Sorrell, a co-head</a> of mergers and acquisitions, and Gonzalo Garcia, co-head of European investment banking, were left off the roughly dozen-person committee, and now are apparently threatening to leave the firm for good, the FT's Joshua Franklin and Arash Massoudi reported, citing "people familiar with the matter." British Prime Minister <keyword id="221875" type="General" weightage="70" keywordseo="rishi-sunak" source="Orion">Rishi Sunak</keyword> hailed it as an "incredibly proud" moment for the country's automotive industry and described it as a testament to the strength of the UK car manufacturing industry and its skilled workers. <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword> owns UK-based luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which will be the anchor customer of the new gigafactory with an initial output of 40GWh - making it one of the largest in Europe. Production at the new gigafactory is due to start in 2026 and is pitched as a key driver behind Sunak's priority to grow the UK economy. "Tata Group's multi-billion-pound investment in a new battery factory in the UK is a testament to the strength of our car manufacturing industry and its skilled workers," said Sunak. "With the global transition to zero-emission vehicles well underway, this will help grow our economy by driving forward our lead in battery technology whilst creating as many as 4,000 jobs, and thousands more in the supply chain," he said. "We can be incredibly proud that Britain has been chosen as home to Tata Group's first gigafactory outside India, securing our place as one of the most attractive places to build electric vehicles," the British prime minister said. As one of the largest-ever investments in the UK auto industry, the new factory will create up to 4,000 highly skilled jobs as well as thousands of further jobs in the wider supply chain for battery materials and critical raw minerals. The gigafactory will secure UK-produced batteries for JLR as well as other manufacturers in the UK and Europe. The location of the new gigafactory is expected to be in Somerset, south west England. "Our multi-billion-pound investment will bring state-of-the-art technology to the country, helping to power the automotive sector's transition to electric mobility, anchored by our own business, JLR," said N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of parent company Tata Sons. "With this strategic investment, the Tata Group further strengthens its commitment to the UK, alongside our many companies operating here across technology, consumer, hospitality, steel, chemicals, and automotive," Chandrasekaran said. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) said details of the government's incentives and support provided to the Tata Group as part of the agreement will be published in due course as part of regular transparency data. However, reports in the lead-up to the announcement had indicated subsidies in the form of grants, energy subsidies and other training and research funding would be part of the agreed package. "Today's multibillion-pound investment demonstrates that this government has got the right plan when it comes to the automotive sector," noted UK Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch.
