Foreign investors have withdrawn nearly Rs 20,000 crore from Indian stock markets in just five trading days (November 4–8), continuing a trend of large-scale selling that began last month. Experts say investors are now moving their money to China, largely due to the high valuations presently prevailing in Indian markets. In early November, FPIs have offloaded as much as Rs 19,994 crore in Indian markets. The month prior, i.e., October, was one of the worst months in terms of foreign outflows, with FPIs making a net withdrawal of Rs 94,017 crore. Before this, Indian markets faced such a situation during the pandemic, when FPIs withdrew Rs 61,973 crore from equities in March 2020. <h2>Why Are Investors Leaving? </h2>According to Himanshu Srivastava of Morningstar Investment Research India, two main factors are driving this exodus. First is China's renewed appeal due to lower stock valuations and new economic stimulus measures. In a bid to nudge the domestic economy and bail state governments, China recently approved a 10-trillion yuan (US $1.4 trillion) package. Per reports, approximately 60% of this stimulus focuses on allowing local governments to refinance the mountain of debt on them. Srivastava explains foreign investors are also flocking to US dollar and Treasury yields, which have appreciated significantly in the recent past, leading FPIs to anticipate a stronger US economy going ahead. Moreover, high valuations in Indian markets are discouraging foreign investors from putting more money in the economy. As a result, over the past week, the selling pressure eroded Rs 74,563 crore in market value for Reliance Industries, while Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank lost Rs 26,274 crore and Rs 22,254 crore, respectively. The combined market valuation of six of the top 10 most-valued firms dipped by Rs 1,55,721.12 crore last week. <h2> Silver linings</h2>Despite the ongoing outflux of funds since last month, November also saw unprecedented applications of about 40–50 new FPI registrations, which are eyeing to enter the Indian market. This was due to markets SEBIs recent relaxation to NRIs, permitting them to participate up to 100% and announcing measures for ease of entry and operations in India. On the other hand, FPIs invested Rs 599 crore in the debt general limit and Rs 2,896 crore in the debt voluntary retention route (VRR) during the period under review. So far this year, FPIs have invested Rs 1.06 lakh crore in the debt market. <li class="whitespace-normal break-words"></li>Going ahead, investors will be looking for certain macroeconomic cues, which include corporate earnings reports, India's inflation (CPI) and industrial production (IIP) data on November 12, the US inflation report on November 13, and wholesale price index (WPI) data on November 14.

The company's market valuation also surged Rs 42,399.24 crore to Rs 20,60,461.42 crore. <keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword>, the nation's most valuable company, had last issued bonus shares in September 2017. "A meeting of the Board of Directors of the company is scheduled to be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, to consider and recommend to the shareholders for their approval, issue of bonus shares in the ratio of 1:1 to the equity shareholders of the company by capitalisation of reserves," the firm said in the stock exchange filing. Prior to the 1:1 bonus issue in 2017, Reliance had in 2009 issued 1:1 bonus share.

This type of offering allows the company to sell stock directly into the market at its discretion and add the proceeds to its balance sheet.With MicroStrategy stock trading near its highest level since the dot-com bubble peak of March 2000, it's a good time for the company to sell more stock, especially considering the struggles facing its underlying software business. MicroStrategy lost about $433 million on revenues of $116 million in the third-quarter. The company's revenue was down 10% year-over-year in the quarter, notching its fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year revenue declines.Whether it's a smart move for MicroStrategy to bet its entire market value on bitcoin rather than invest in its underlying business will hinge on the price of bitcoin.So far, the bitcoin play has worked out. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Value-investing legend Bill Nygren says the S&amp;P 500 lacks the diversification it once had.</li><li>He likes to invest in inexpensive companies with enough capital on hand to consistently buy back shares.</li></ul>The <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/s&amp;p_500?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest%3Futm_source%3Dmarkets&amp;utm_medium=ingest&amp;utm_medium=ingest&amp;utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest&amp;utm_source=markets">S&amp;P 500</a> isn't as risk-free as investors might think, says Oakmark Funds' Bill Nygren, who lamented the S&amp;P 500's growing lack of diversification.Rather than buy the mega-cap tech stocks that dominate major indexes, the value-investing legend <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/09/23/value-investor-bill-nygren-looking-outside-of-crowded-megacap-tech-adds-cheap-financial-stock.html">told CNBC</a> he's instead focused on inexpensive companies with ample cash on hand to consistently buy back shares."It's become so important to us that we invest with companies that are taking matters into their own hands and using excess capital to repurchase their own stock," Nygren <a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5lBc92KIho">told the outlet</a> on Monday.One stock he pinpointed that fits the bill is <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/crbg-stock">Corebridge Financial</a>.While the stock is currently trading around $28 a share, Nygren sees it almost doubling is book value to $50 by the end of 2025, or about four or five times earnings. He also predicts that Corebridge could buy back as much as 20% of its outstanding stock each year, a practice that generally engineers gains by increasing the per-unit value of each remaining share."It's a name not many people know about," Nygren said of the firm. "They don't have to depend on other investors to recognize the value. They just keep reducing the flow."He continued: "I think it just creates a tremendous opportunity for companies that are good businesses, generating a lot of cash flow, and it gives them the opportunity to increase per share value by reinvesting in themselves."

That's because to a trifecta of headwinds will cap gains for the S&amp;P 500. The benchmark index is likely to face resistance around 5,670, the record high it notched earlier this summer.Stocks continued to rally in August as investors gained more confidence about a soft landing and positioned for ambitious rate cuts from the Federal Reserve. However, markets have way more uncertainty still looming, the bank said, pointing to geopolitical tensions in the Middle-East, doubts over whether the economy can avoid a recession, and concerns that the AI rally may be running out of steam.Stocks are also navigating an election year, which has historically meant more volatility. Investors are assessing an uncertain political landscape, with presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump remaining neck-and-neck in the latest polls."While we believe the S&amp;P 500 Index remains in an uptrend, it now finds itself facing key resistance at the all-time high," strategists said in a note on Monday. "For these reasons, we find it unlikely that the S&amp;P 500 Index will reach meaningful new highs in the coming months."While stocks might not see a rally to fresh records soon, there could be an opportunity for investors to adjust and reallocate their portfolios to "especially unfavorable areas" — <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-sp500-buying-opportunity-economy-bull-market-profits-2023-10">unloved areas of the stock market could have huge upside in the coming years</a>. That includes emerging markets, as well as US consumer discretionary, consumer staples, utilities, and real estate sectors.Investors have tempered some of their enthusiasm for stocks since the start of the year, when lofty expectations for AI and easing monetary policy from the Fed boosted the market to a string of record highs. Since then, growth fears have overshadowed excitement about rate cuts, and questions about the sustainability of the AI rally have dented tech bullishness. In the latest AAII Investor Sentiment survey, around 45% of investors said they feel bullish about the stock market over the next six months, down from 51% of investors who felt that way about a month ago.
