Lamborghini has sold its last fully gas-powered supercar

New Delhi, Jul 5 () Italian super sports car maker Lamborghini is banking on a healthy order book to prevent huge sales dip in India this year due to the coronavirus pandemic as it resumes deliveries of vehicles from this month after restarting operations following lockdown relaxations, according to a senior company official. While new orders are slow to come by, Lamborghini India is not witnessing any cancellations of bookings, although some customers have asked for delayed deliveries due to the health crisis. "We still have a strong order bank for Urus and also we launched the new Evo RWD in the beginning of the year. This helped us to build the order bank for the year, which will be acting as a big support in terms of getting some decent numbers this year," Lamborghini India Head Sharad Agarwal told . The company, which sold 52 units of its super luxury vehicles that are priced above Rs 2.5 crore in India last year, feels that its sales this year will not match that figure. "Definitely, we may not hit the same number as last year but this order bank will definitely support us in (preventing) a decline, which is not as bad as the industry," he said, adding "the good thing is whatever order bank we have we have not seen any cancellations and the customers are still committed with us." Admitting that there are delays in deliveries due to the shutdown of the company's factory in Italy from March 13 to April 25 due to the pandemic, he said there are also some instances where customers are seeking to defer delivery of booked cars by one or two months. "This is fair because this is the kind of environment which you can't push. Overall, I still see a positive sign that we are not seeing customers coming and saying now I don't want to take the car," Agarwal added. From June 8, the company had reopened its dealerships after Unlock 1.0 and has resumed about 50 per cent operations. Although the market is moving slowly and gradually, it remains uncertain how the year will go, Agarwal added. "We have to see how the new orders start coming and we have to see the situation on the ground...The new orders will be slightly slower unless we start seeing positive signals and the business turning more positive because the priorities today are different. "The motive has changed for people. The motive is to remain relevant, take care of their people, take care of their businesses. It is also reflecting in demand (of vehicles)," he said. Although the new orders will be primarily for next year, Agarwal said "we are still trying to see orders for November or December production, and then they will start moving for next year. For some models, we are already taking orders for next year." Agarwal further said the company will resume deliveries from this month as some cars are coming in. "The factory was closed from March 13 to April 25 and after that the production has started. There are cars which were manufactured in May and June, we are receiving it in July," he said. On the outlook, he said if the economy slows further the super luxury segment will definitely a decline sharper than the mass volume segment as "the super luxury segment is driven by emotions", although it is difficult to put a number on the decline. He said ever since the relaxation of lockdown, the overall passenger cars market has witnessed demand at the entry level as a lot of people are looking at having personal mode of transportation and they want to avoid public transport. "So there will be some uptick in demand in the entry level but luxury, premium and super luxury segments will be seeing much sharper decline because in these segments you really don't need a personal mode of transportation, you already have enough cars in the house," Agarwal said. Stating that it remains quite uncertain as to how the year will pan out, he said, "We are taking each month as an independent unit and trying to work around that because it is very difficult to plan today what you want to do in Q3 and Q4." He, however, expressed optimism that next year will be better. "By Q1 next year, things will turn around and we don't see 2021 as a challenge yet. If some positive results come by the end of Q3 and beginning of Q1 in 2021, things will pick up," Agarwal said. RKL ABM ABM

Lamborghini India banks on healthy order book to prevent sales decline

Ahmedabad, Feb 13 () Contrary to a belief that super-rich would not think much when it comes to buying their favourite car, the Indian arm of super sports car manufacturer Lamborghini has said around 60 to 65 per cent of their cars are sold on car finance in the country. While most of the buyers of these super-cars are industrialists and businessmen, the company has rarely sold a car to a corporate professional, such as a CEO, in India, said Lamborghini India head Sharad Agarwal. "Our buyers are wealth creators, not wealth inheritors. They understand the value of money. Though they have money they would calculate everything before shelling out Rs 5 crore on a car. He would think about investing that much money into his own business and buy the car on loan," Sharad Agarwal told reporters here. "Let me tell you that we do sell cars on EMI. More than 60 to 65 per cent our our cars are sold on finance. Majority of our buyers are industrialists or businessmen. Unlike in the US, very rarely we witness a corporate professional, like a CEO, buying a Lamborghini in India," he said. He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the launch of 'Huracan EVO RWD', a super sports car. Price of the car starts from Rs 3.22 crore, ex-showroom, pan-India. Agarwal said the super luxury segment (cars priced above Rs 2.5 crore) too experienced a slowdown last calendar year of 2019, when just 265 such cars of different brands were sold in India. In 2018, the number was 315. While Lamborghini India sold 45 units in 2018, the number was 52 in 2019 calendar year. "While the market sentiments were negative last year, our growth was around 15 per cent last year. We are looking to maintain the growth momentum in this year too" said Agarwal, adding that people from non-metro cities are also queuing up to buy Lamborghini cars these days. "Around three years back, 99 per cent our sales was coming from metro cities, like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. Now metro cities contribute 75 per cent while 25 per cent sales is coming from tier-1 and tier-2 cities, such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Nashik, Jaipur, Indore and Kanpur. Over 60 pc Lamborghini cars sold on EMIs in India

The company, which posted a whopping 125 percent year-on-year surge in its vehicle sales at 53,721 units in 2022, also sounded hopeful of growing into double-digit this year as well. Similarly, <keyword id="166267" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="volkswagen-group" source="Orion">Volkswagen Group</keyword> sales grew 85.48 per cent year-on-year at 1,01,270 units in the previous calendar year. The Group is present through <keyword id="6361542" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="skoda" source="Orion">Skoda</keyword> Auto, <keyword id="6361865" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="volkswagen" source="Orion">Volkswagen</keyword>, Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini brands under Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWPIL). Volkswagen is already exporting vehicles from India to Mexico and South Africa while Skoda Auto is exporting to the Middle East and North Africa. "From next year we will start exporting vehicle kits for assembly in Vietnam," Solc stated. Export is already an important part and will continue to be an important part of the strategy for Skoda and Volkswagen, he stated. Noting that Skoda Auto India for the first time delivered more than 50,000 cars in the domestic market last year, he said "we would like to grow with the market or even faster and our ambition is to grow into double digits." He said that 2022 was specific for the company on account of the Slavia launch and added that "So, there was this kind of a one-time effect of any new model introduction." "Now, we have both models (all-new Slavia sedan and <keyword id="10576650" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="kushaq-suv" source="Orion">Kushaq SUV</keyword>) in the market and can now enjoy having both models for the full year in the market," he said. Solc said that the 7-seater updated SUV Kodiaq will also play a role in terms of the company's growth strategy, particularly when there is a much greater supply now. To a question on Audi, which at a point of time was the undisputed leader in the domestic premium luxury car market, Christian Cahn Von Seelen, Member of the Board for sales, marketing and digital at SAVWPIL said that its growth has been "impressive" in terms of volume in 2022 compared to the year earlier and that was still hampered significantly by the chip supply situations even in Europe. "So the growth of Audi is impressive, and we are definitely planning to continue...So as much (as) I think, I can say we will see loads of new product introductions here on the other side." On the company's EV foray in the Indian market, Solc said it depends on the development of the segment in the country. Late last month, the European car maker Skoda announced its EV roadmap, which includes six electric cars in a phased manner by 2026. "We as a manufacturer and Skoda, we will be ready. And if we see good traction, we are talking about the prognosis that the car market or the EV can go within 5-10 years, up to 20, maybe 30 per cent. We don't know necessarily," he said. "So this could be part, we would like to be also within that range, but depends again, on the response. If we see more manufacturers going, there is an infrastructure built here and there's an acceptance from the customers to buy electric cars, and we will be ready," he said. He said that the company is discussing which models it should bring in the future also to India as an EV. "And if we see the potential in the market, we will bring them as well. So I cannot say necessarily what the percentage will be. But if the market is going towards more than 20 per cent of the electric vehicles of the total market, we would like to penetrate within the EV segment," Solc added. India to become export hub for Skoda Auto from next year, says co-official

<keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword> on Friday reported 1.73 per cent decline in overall global sales at 74,172 units in November 2023 as compared to 75,478 units in the same month last year. Total domestic sales were at 72,647 units last month as compared to 73,467 units in November 2022, down 1 per cent, <keyword id="8555" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata" source="Orion">Tata</keyword> Motors said in a regulatory filing. Overall sales of passenger vehicles (PV), including electric vehicles (EV) were at 46,143 units as against 46,425 units in the year-ago month, down 1 per cent, it added. In the domestic market, PV sales, including EVs were marginally higher at 46,068 units last month as compared to 46,037 units in November 2022. Sales of passenger EVs, including in the domestic market, stood at 4,761 units as against 4,451 units in the year-ago month, up 7 per cent, the company said. Tata Motors said its total commercial vehicles (CV) sales in November 2023 were at 28,029 units as compared to 29,053 units in the same month last year, down 4 per cent. Domestic CV sales were lower by 3 per cent at 26,579 units as compared to 27,430 units in the year-ago month, it added. Tata Motors total sales down 1.73% at 74,172 units in Nov

New Delhi, <keyword id="6357096" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahindra-mahindra" source="Orion">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</keyword> on Friday said its total wholesales increased by 21 per cent year on year to 70,576 units in November. The Mumbai-based automaker had dispatched 58,303 units in November 2022. Utility vehicle dispatches stood at 39,981 units last month, an increase of 32 per cent over 30,238 units in the year-ago period, <keyword id="45224" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahindra" source="Orion">Mahindra</keyword> &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) said in a statement. Exports, however, declined 42 per cent last month to 1,816 units as compared to 3,122 units in November 2022. "We continue our growth trend, backed by strong demand for our SUV portfolio...While we saw a healthy festive season, we faced supply challenges on select parts during the month. We are keeping a close watch and taking appropriate steps to mitigate the challenges," M&amp;M President Automotive Division Veejay Nakra said. M&amp;M said its tractor wholesales stood at 32,074 units in November as compared to 30,528 units in the year-ago period. Exports, however, declined to 1,005 units last month from 1,348 units in November 2022. "The festive season saw high demand pull in the domestic market, supported by Kharif harvest realisations, with retails being strong during Dhanteras and Diwali," M&amp;M President-Farm Equipment Sector Hemant Sikka said. Terms of trade continue to be favourable for farmers, while rural spending by the government and progress in rabi sowing are the factors to watch out for, he added. Akash Ambani’s journey of becoming one of the most influential next-gen leaders began only four years ago, when he gave his first public address at the India Digital Open Summit. “Our chairman believes India is on a path to be a technology innovation leader and technology superpower. We are fortunate to be living in India, where we have a vision for Digital India. At Jio we believe AR/VR will grow at 50% CAGR for next 5 years,” said Akash Ambani, who was 26 years old at the time. On June 27 2022, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani handed over the reins of the empire to his eldest son <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/mukesh-ambani-steps-down-as-director-of-reliance-jio-akash-ambani-appointed-chairman/articleshow/92521472.cms">Akash Ambani</a>. Referring to the next generation Ambanis — Isha, Akash and Anant — Mukesh Ambani said at the company’s 45th annual general meeting, “All three have fully inherited our founder's mindset. They are first among equals in a young team of leaders and professionals who are already doing amazing things at Reliance.” Akash Ambani’s ambitious plan to launch virtual PCs in India Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL), a subsidiary of RIL, is the largest telecom operator in India. From less than 700 professionals a few years ago, the RJIL team has grown rapidly to over 10,000 professionals today. “With 5G being rolled out in India, the current 800 million connected internet devices will double to 1.5 billion connected internet devices in just a year,” said Akash Ambani at the latest annual general meeting. The 30-year-old also announced the launch of ‘<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/enterprise/news/jio-airfiber-to-offer-cloud-pc-services-soon/articleshow/93857295.cms">virtual PC</a>’ through the launch of Jio AirFiber giving a boost to AI-enabled services in India. “5G gives ultra-high fibre-like speed over the air without any wires. We are calling it JioAirFiber. With JioAirFiber, it will be really easy to quickly connect your home or office to Gigabit-speed Internet,” he said. Investing ₹2 lakh crore, the next-generation Ambani will also head the implementation of 5G services in India – the latest version called standalone 5G sans dependence on 4G network. Challenges for Ambani junior while heading Reliance Reliance Jio offers its services at affordable tariffs, a dream that the founder of Reliance Industries had of offering telecom services at the rate of a postcard. While Akash Ambani’s father delivered on that promise, the 30-year old scion will have his job cut out as the company looks to launch its ambitious 5G services this Diwali. The company faces competition from the Sunil Mittal-helmed Airtel. Interestingly, Airtel is a professionally run company and both of Mittal’s sons pursue their own business interests. An avid sports nut Apart from heading the most ambitious projects in the world, Akash is known to have a keen interest in sports and premium cars. Akash’s first public appearance was at a Mumbai Indians cricket match as the company bought the team <a href="https://www.republicworld.com/sports-news/cricket-news/ipl-mega-auction-which-teams-were-sold-in-the-2008-inaugural-edition-and-at-what-prices.html">for $111.9 million back in 2008</a>. He is an avid cricket fan and can be seen regularly leading auctions to filter through the players for the Mumbai Indians IPL league. Ambani Junior is also a fan of the Arsenal football club. Seeking a double digit growth this year, <keyword id="45964" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rolls-Royce">Rolls Royce</keyword> plans to attract women and younger buyers as these are its hot customers right now who are boosting its sales. Two factors, with cars starting at around Rs 3 crore and going up to Rs 6 crore depending on the level of customisation, only those with serious spending money can afford a Rolls and the growth in the number of female ultra-high net worth individuals is expected to exceed that of males, fuelled by entrepreneurship, albeit on a smaller base, are working behind its sales. 
 "This expected growth of affluent self-made women is very encouraging," said <keyword id="85936" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Paul-Harris">Paul Harris</keyword>, region director, Asia Pacific for Rolls Royce. "Buyers now are younger. I would say female interest has doubled, female ownership of our modern products has significantly increased." 
 Film star <keyword id="1655" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Priyanka-Chopra">Priyanka Chopra</keyword> bought a Rolls last year, according to industry sources. 
 
"I like the design, which I feel is a marvel that transcends time," Gupta told ET recently. "Every inch of the car is an epitome of superior craftsmanship. The design pays homage to the classical models, but is still contemporary. The Ghost starts silently, and stays silent even when it gathers speed. I find its power of silence remarkable," said entrepreneur Paras Gupta, 22, a director at pre-school chain Mother's Pride, who recently took delivery of a Rolls Royce Ghost Series 2 in Delhi. 
 
 
Moreover, Rolls Royce will be organising an exclusive women's event in Mumbai this year, said Harris. The events will revolve around the fashion and bridal arenas — no men will be allowed, not even Harris. 
 
He also pointed out that the seven members Asia marketing team is all women. Additionally, the company's Bespoke Design Team at the Goodwood headquarters in the UK has textile design experts Cherica Haye and Michelle Lusby who are responsible for designing exterior paint and leather colours as well as interior textures. In India, the dealership in Chennai is headed by a woman and the company intends to hire a significant female workforce at its sales outlets going ahead. 
 
"We need to adapt and make sure that there are enough women working at our dealerships, so we would be hiring more to cater to future need," Harris said. Besides this, the company is trying to make its communication more suited to a youthful audience rather than those of an older generation, he said. It collaborated with New York's <keyword id="212569" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Pratt-Institute">Pratt Institute</keyword>, known for its architecture, interior design and industrial design programmes, on the 'Inspired by Fashion' version of the Wraith. The launch event in New York in March 2015 also featured three women fashion leaders discussing change in the fashion industry. 
 
Apart from the Wraith cited above, the Phantom Limelight has also been designed to appeal to women. The Limelight, of which only 25 have been made, features a women's pannier, or storage area, that can be personalised. 
 
Super sports carmaker Lamborghini is also catering to this trend. When it comes to choosing among sports cars, women tip the scales, according to internal research. Globally, celebrity Lamborghini owners include Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and model Deana Uppal. 
This is a reflection of women wanting to drive the powerful machines that were once the preserve of men, said Pavan Shetty, head of operations at Lamborghini India. 
 
"The number of women who own Lamborghinis today and the ones who share the cars with their husbands is increasing," he said. "We intend to seriously increase our engagement with women prospects and would like to see more women owning our cars." Harris, who declined to mention a target for sales this year, was asked if 100 cars a year would be possible. 
 
"That number is still the market we see as the potential, with the product lines that are coming in and as long as the rest of the platform remains same," he said. "I think it is possible. Absolutely." He also sees forthcoming models as widening the company's appeal. One is the Dawn, which will be launched globally this year and is likely to reach India by 2016. The Cullinan, the company's first SUV, is expected to be launched in three years or so. 
 All alike agree that catering to women’s likes is the key to its growth. The market for super <keyword id="6376889" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="luxury-cars">luxury cars</keyword> such as Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ferrari, priced at Rs 2 crore to Rs 6 crore, posted a decline of 15% to 110-115 units due to sluggish macro-economic factors. 
 
Last year, Rolls Royce sold 4,000 cars worldwide — the fifth record year in a row. But only 40 of those cars were sold in India, down from 91 in 2011. In the luxury auto trade, the marque has unbeatable cachet but the BMW-owned Rolls Royce needs to rebuild sales in the country.
