Mumbai, Music label Saregama on Tuesday said it has inked a music licensing deal with homegrown short-video app Josh by VerSe Innovation. With this deal, users of Josh can now access old and new songs from the Saregama library with over 1.3 <keyword id="10692564" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lakh-songs">lakh songs</keyword> to create <keyword id="10692565" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="innovative-content">innovative content</keyword>. Saregama said it will license its entire catalogue to Josh allowing users to create content inspired from its music library in diverse Indian <keyword id="6360075" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Languages">languages</keyword> like Hindi, Bhojpuri, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi and Gujarati, amongst many others. Some dress up in colourful Haryanvi attire, some choose Salwar Kameez but every woman gets a chance to take the centre stage and dance to her favourite folk song. Roshni Devi Bishnoi regularly shares this whole experience on YouTube. Bishnoi started her own channel right before the pandemic after her son encouraged her to do it. Now it has become an integral part of her life “If I ever have other commitments to attend to, I get really worried. We have fun at the park, it has become a big part of my life and I don’t like missing it. I wanted to share this experience with everyone through YouTube,” Bishnoi shares with Business Insider India. While she turned to YouTube just for fun, it was in 2021 that she found out that creators can even earn through YouTube. “I had no idea that our channel would take off. My son told me earlier last year that my channel is monetised. Since then, I have been using this money to give back to society and to arrange better facilities for women who gather at the park to celebrate our culture,” says Bishnoi. Bishnoi lives with her two sons and husband in Hisar in a four-storey house. Now, through YouTube, Bishnoi aims to make a bigger name for herself, build her own identity and earn enough money to give back to society. Her YouTube channel has 1.47 lakh subscribers. “I would urge all women and everyone in India to come forward and share their talent with the world through YouTube. Tetseo sisters Mütsevelü (Mercy), Azine (Azi), Kuvelü (Kuku) and Alüne (Lulu) have been celebrating life and spreading happiness through the singing of folk songs in the Chokri Naga dialect. Their music transcends borders and pays an ode to their culture. “A lot of our fans are people who do not understand and do not speak Chokri at all, which clearly tells us that music really has no language barriers. It's all about the connection that you make with the melody, the vibes and the emotions that are captured in the songs,” shares Kuku with Business Insider India. Tetseo sisters’ O Rhosi song has about 2.5 million views on YouTube. Sharing why the sisters started their own YouTube channel, Mercy says, “When we started getting introduced to the Internet, and it became so accessible in the country, we used to watch a lot of YouTube videos about our favourite stars and our favourite musicians. Regional and folk singers are using YouTube to preserve and popularise their culture

Composer-singer Bappi Lahiri hospitalised after testing COVID-19 positive

As every budding entrepreneur today is thinking of pain points from where their business ideas can emerge, three Lucknow boys are already on their feet trying to connect underserved netizens who want to have social interactions in their language of choice.

This lot, they said, wants to express themselves online but do not have a platform which allows them to interact in the comfort of their local languages. The trio then came down to the conclusion - if they were to give these people an alternative, this untouched market would nto shy away from communicating socially like others. 
 It is for this reason this trio soon started developing an app last year, and this led to the birth of '<keyword id="3358959" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ShareChat">Sharechat</keyword>' - a one of its kind social networking app for India’s vernacular language users, what the founders would like to call "India's real Facebook". 
 
The sheer success this app has got in the past few months indicates people were desperately seeking for such a platform. The app has been downloaded over 1 million times and it has half a million active monthly users. It started as a fun app for Whatsapp with users sharing 1 lakh content pieces per day, and has now made rapid strides towards becoming a full-fledged social network.

 <keyword id="17256" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Menon">Menon</keyword> defines his music as ‘A range of influences including 80’s pop-rock, musical theater and adult-contemporary songwriters, developed into his unique style of lyric-heavy pop-rock.’ 
 The singer has played in popular music festivals like <keyword id="15277" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="bacardi">Bacardi</keyword> NH7 Weekender, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, and Mahindra Blues Festival and he is comfortable both with playing in a band and just by himself and his acoustic guitar.

''For someone who released his first EP(Extended Play) ‘Small Victories’ in late 2014, I’m finally ready to do a full-length album called ‘Make it happen’ which will feature 10 songs. In the past two years, I did try to get a label on board for this but I felt that after performing all over the country, I’ll let the people who like my music help me out to do this by myself’’ he says, in an optimistic fervor. 
 
Taking the independent part to the next level literally, Menon believes that is easier than it has ever been to make a good album these days, however, good studios and album production still cost a great deal, wherein comes the crowd funding. 
 
 
 
The Campaign 
 Menon had started a campaign on the crowdfunding platform <keyword id="1927134" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wishberry">Wishberry</keyword>, which had an initial goal of Rs. 2 lakhs to be completed in 30 days, to fulfill costs like Studio Cost (Rs. 90000), Admin fees(Rs. 20000), Mixing (Rs. 50000), Mastering (Rs. 30000) and <keyword id="2426054" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="misc">Misc</keyword>. (Rs. 10000). As he’s hit the goal in under a day, the bigger goal has been set to Rs. 4 lakhs. 
 If he hits the new goal, <keyword id="6373601" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Dadlani">Vishal Dadlani</keyword>, the frontman of one of the first indie bands, Pentagram will feature on his album for a song called ‘Kindness’. 
 
For the fans, by the fans 
 
The incentive for the fans here is multifold, as Menon has decided to use the funds to give out rewards in forms of a copy of an album, an artsy signed poster, a songbook with all the lyrics, a deluxe edition of the album due to release later in the year, free passes to his gigs and much more. 
 
The rewards increase with the contribution as the campaign allows you to fund the project either in categories, or you can also be the rogue one and contribute any amount without any expectation of a reward. 
 
Menon has already started working on the album and expects it to release by May, this year by when all the contributors can expect to start reaping the rewards that they’ve sown. 
 
Crowdfunding for the win 
 Menon isn’t the first artist to have crowdfunded his album, with artists like <keyword id="1144733" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Parvaaz">Parvaaz</keyword> with their album ‘<keyword id="226613" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baran">Baran</keyword>’ already doing it in 2014 and <keyword id="33360" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vasudha-Sharma">Vasudha Sharma</keyword>, another indie musician, did it for her album ‘Attuned spirits’ in 2013. 
 
''Crowdfunding is great as it reinstates the fact that they’re people who’re willing to back you up not just with compliments but with real investment, how big or small that might be,’’ says Menon about why he thinks it’s a great idea not just for social causes or businesses but also for creative geniuses to the likes of him.

 The 27-year old says that he’d like to collaborate with more artists and diversify his album further with Pop, Rock, Blues, Funk, R'nB, <keyword id="856224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electronica">Electronica</keyword> and Soul elements that he has used to create ''a seamless musical experience that has pushed well past his creative limits.’’

 A week before the festival, children start gathering <keyword id="1066921" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="firewood">firewood</keyword> and go from door to door, singing old folk songs and collecting their <keyword id="2012376" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lohri-loot">Lohri loot</keyword> – a wide variety of scrumptious sweets like <keyword id="2012377" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rewri">rewri</keyword>, <keyword id="529387" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gajak">gajak</keyword>, <keyword id="137842" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="jaggery">jaggery</keyword>, <keyword id="116024" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Peanut">peanut</keyword> chikki and <keyword id="6427332" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="TIL">til</keyword> (sesame) barfi. On the D-day, after sundown, people rush to the <keyword id="2012365" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bonfire-celebration">bonfire celebration</keyword>, followed by a gala evening filled with songs, dances and feasting. The festival also holds great significance for the newlyweds and the newborns whose first Lohri is celebrated with pomp and splendour. 
 This year, too, the Lohri bashes are all set to fire up the festivities in spite of the <keyword id="517425" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="biting-cold">biting cold</keyword> of the past few days. It has been partly cloudy in the national capital of Delhi, along with early <keyword id="49908" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="MORNING-FOG">morning fog</keyword> and a chilly breeze, but the day gets warmer with an occasional burst of sunshine. It has not rained either, as predicted by the MeT department, and the minimum temperature on the Lohri day is expected to hover between 4 and 6°C. Incidentally, the Jaffarpur Kalan area in Delhi has already recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 1.4°C a couple of days ago. The city also witnessed the worst fog in four years, with flight and train operations coming to a standstill. 
 
Such chilly weather means the bonfires must be extra large this time and the celebrations should get bigger as the sun goes down on Monday. Start the ritual with parikrama – circling the bonfire, chanting prayers, singing folk songs and putting in loads of til (sesame), <keyword id="2012380" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Moongphali">moongphali</keyword> (peanuts), <keyword id="2012381" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chirwa">chirwa</keyword> (puffed rice) and <keyword id="82600" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maize">maize</keyword> (<keyword id="74000" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Popcorn">popcorn</keyword>) into the fire, as the old custom demands. Some even pour milk and water near the circle of fire. These prayers and offerings to the Sun are said to bring peace, harmony and prosperity throughout the year. When the parikrama is over, it is time to exchange gifts and distribute the prasad or puja offerings that mostly include peanuts, til, gajak, jaggery and other munchies. 
 
 
 
But Lohri also signifies a great celebration of life – dancing, feasting and revelry that bring in good cheer. So it’s time to go balle balle with some dazzling outfits, lively dance numbers, Patiala pegs and lip-smacking <keyword id="33659" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Punjabi-Cuisine">Punjabi cuisine</keyword>. Go for bold colours and bright shades – not only for your outfit but also for your make-up. The more adventurous can always try glitter and rhinestone make-up to add some extra dazzle. Sport a front puff or a chotti (braid) with a parandi (decorative tassel) and walk out as the belle of the ball – ready to bhangra and giddha all evening, till the fire dies down. 
 Those in love with gourmet food are also looking forward to the celebrations. <ul><li>School students will need to reply to roll calls with a “Jai Hind”.</li><li><keyword id="3187521" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhya-Pradesh-School-Education">Madhya Pradesh School Education</keyword> Minister, <keyword id="213159" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Shah">Vijay Shah</keyword>, believes that this measure will “foster patriotism” in students. </li><li>The <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> government had earlier instructed all schools to hoist the country’s flag daily and to sing the national anthem. </li></ul>In a bid to instil patriotism in children, the state of <keyword id="6355554" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhya-Pradesh">Madhya Pradesh</keyword> in India will mandate school students to reply to roll calls with a “Jai Hind” instead of the plain old “Yes Sir” or “Here Ma’am”. The words “Jai Hind” roughly translates to "Victory to India". The Madhya Pradesh School Education Minister, Vijay Shah, believes that this measure will “foster patriotism” in students and has directed all 1.22 lakh government schools in the state to strictly follow this order. While the directive is not compulsory for private schools, they will be issued an advisory in this regard. They also had a trial run for this purpose wherein children attending schools in the state’s Satna district had to cry out “Jai Hind” from October 1, 2017. Rahul Kothari, a spokesperson from India’s ruling party, <keyword id="58687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> (BJP), <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/madhya-pradesh-government-tells-students-to-answer-roll-call-with-jai-hind-1852730?pfrom=home-topstories">applauded the move</a> by saying, "It's a great initiative for instilling patriotism among students. We should look upon this in a positive manner." On the other hand, another spokesperson from the opposition, KK Mishra, from the <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> party, said patriotism cannot be forced onto people. Instead, he suggested that the “government should first think about the quality of education and lack of teachers in government schools." The BJP government, big on patriotism, had earlier instructed all schools to hoist the country’s flag daily and to sing the national anthem as well. A move similar to this was heavily criticised last year when the Centre issued a directive laying out how Independence Day should be ‘celebrated’ in schools. This order dictated that among other things, students belonging to Islamic educational institutions, Madrasas, had to sing the national song “Vande Mataram”. The Ministry of Human Resource Development also ordered schools to conduct quiz contests, lectures and debates and as proof that this was followed, they were asked to submit corroborating videos the office of Sarva Shiksha Mission (SSM) by 31 August 2017.
