Prime Minister Narendra Modi had no plans to visit Lahore and was supposed to come back from Kabul to New Delhi. But his impromptu plan to visit Lahore sent the security into action, which managed Modi’s visit with aplomb. 
 
Modi had called Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to greet him on his birthday, when Sharif asked Modi to visit Islamabad. 
 
Sharif, who was in Lahore for his granddaughter’s wedding, said he won’t be able to make it to Islamabad and requested Modi to come to Lahore. 
 
This plan of a pit stop in Lahore, that too at Sharif’s residene, which is 45 kilometres away from the airport, was successful all thanks to the security of both the countries. 
 
Senior government officials aware of the deliberations told ET, “Aap Lahore mein ghar aa jayiye, Lahore ke darwaze bhi aap ke liye khule hain (Come to my Lahore home, the doors of Lahore are also open for you). 
 
Then the security concerns were discussed with NSA Ajit Doval and the SPG officials. 
 
"Islamabad has an institutionalised security protocol and setup for VVIP visits from the US and elsewhere which we were comfortable with even in the case of a sudden trip. But the Lahore surprise pit-stop was a big challenge for the SPG," a senior official told ET. 
 
The security overcame two challeneges-IAF chopper at Lahore airport and Modi’s 45-kilometre road journey from the airport to Sharif's Raiwind Palace through the heart of Lahore. 
 
Pakistan promised foolproof security at the Lahore airport and assured a Pak Air Force Chopper would fly both PMs to Raiwind and back. 
 
"Sharif flying in the same chopper with Modi was the biggest assurance that security would be top-notch," a senior official told ET.

Sunny Deol to lock horns with Abhimanyu Singh in 'Lahore 1947'

Amid massive surge in the prices of various vegetables and fruits in <keyword id="6580" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lahore" source="Orion">Lahore</keyword> and other parts of <keyword id="6354953" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="punjab" source="Orion">Punjab</keyword> province due to devastating floods, the Pakistan government may import tomato and onion from <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, according to the market dealers here. "On Sunday, per kilogram of tomato and onion were available in Lahore's markets at around Rs500 and Rs400 respectively. However, in Sunday markets both commodities were available at Rs 100 per kg less than that of those available in regular markets," Jawaad Rizvi, a wholesale dealer of Lahore market, told PTI. He said that in the coming days the prices of commodities will increase further as the supply of vegetables from <keyword id="45793" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="balochistan" source="Orion">Balochistan</keyword>, <keyword id="12961" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sindh" source="Orion">Sindh</keyword> and south Punjab has badly been affected because of floods. "In the coming days, onion and tomato per kg prices may cross Rs700. Similarly, potato price has increased from Rs40 per kg to Rs120kg," Rizvi said. In the markets, the short supply of vegetables is because of destruction of the crops on thousands of acres by the floods in Balochistan and Sindh. It is learnt the federal government is considering the option to import onion and tomato from India through Wagah border. Currently, Lahore and other cities of Punjab are getting the supply of tomato and onion from Afghanistan via the Torkham border. "One hundred containers of tomato and around 30 of onion are being received at Torkham border daily, out of which two containers of tomato and one of onion is being brought to Lahore city on a daily basis and the number of containers is absolutely too short to meet the demand in the provincial capital of Punjab, according to <keyword id="14835633" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lahore-market-committee" source="Orion">Lahore Market Committee</keyword> Secretary Shehzad Cheema. He said vegetables like capsicum or bell pepper are also short in the market due to the floods. Cheema said the government would eventually import onion and tomato from India. He said import of vegetables from Iran via Taftan border (Balochistan) was not viable as the Iranian government had increased taxes on its imports and exports. He said the prices of date palm and banana would also go up in the coming days as most of the orchards in Sindh had been destroyed by the floods. Apple supply from Balochistan or other areas had also been stopped due to flooding. According to officials, floods have claimed over 1,030 lives so far, with 74 deaths reported in Sindh, 31 in Khyber Pakhtaunkhawa, six in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), four in Balochistan and one in Punjab. Pak may import tomato and onion from India amid huge surge in vegetable prices due to floods

Last month, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=uber&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Uber</a>, one of the most popular <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=taxi+hailing+apps&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">taxi-hailing apps</a> officially launched its services in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=pakistan&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Pakistan</a> at Rs 13.7 per km. While the base-fare remained at Rs 100, the company has kept the per-minute charges at Rs 3.7. 
 As of the moment, the <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> services can be availed all over <keyword id="6580" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lahore">Lahore</keyword> and the company intends to make them available in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=karachi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Karachi</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=islamabad&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Islamabad</a> over the next few months. 
 
While, Pakistanis in general have taken to Uber in a big way already, however they're not the only one reaping benefits of the company’s expansion in the country. 
 Word is, <keyword id="3268932" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber-Pakistan">Uber Pakistan</keyword>’s drivers are bringing home massive earnings. 
 
According to figures that were made public last week, these drivers have earned an average monthly income of Rs 100,000 in this short period. 
 
Additionally, Umair Saif, the renowned Pakistani <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=entreprenuer&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">entrepreneur</a> and scientist cliamed that the top Uber Pakistan driver took home a whopping Rs 130,000. 
 
All this in just a month.

He also tweeted a map of all the trips that Uber made in its first month in Lahore. 
 
An Uber spokesperson confirmed the fact, saying “There is a driver who successfully maxed out our income charts by making around Rs 130,000 in only 30 days, which is impressive.” 
 
One reason of their high earnings could be the fact that at the moment Uber has a relatively less number of cabs plying in the city- and as has been noticed, the demand for an Uber is unbearably high. This trend could well wear drown once Uber increases its fleet in Lahore. 
 
Presently, Uber has started out with 100 drivers/cabs in Lahore and is offering its UberGo vehicles in Pakistan which include Suzuki Swifts, Toyota Vitz, Toyota Corollas and Honda Civic among others. There is also the economical Uber Pool that allows two or more people to share a ride and split the fare. 
 
The company aims to offer luxurious cars under UberBlack and UberLUX later.

North-South Transport Network will be in charge of all the operations and functions related to the Pakistan-China bus service. They’ve indicated that the transport services are likely to commence from 3rd November 2018. Boosting ties between Pakistan and China The bus service is launched under the flagship “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor” or CPEC project and aims to boost the friendly relations between the two countries. The two countries already have a road link which is primarily used for trade. The bilateral relationship between India’s two neighbouring countries will also inch closer after Imran Khan’s visit to Beijing on November 2. The trip will be available four days a week. The bus will run from Saturday to Tuesday in a week from Pakistan to China, whereas people coming from China to Pakistan can avail the services from Tuesday to Friday, according to a <a href="https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/387137-china-pakistan-bus-service-to-be-launched-next-week">newspaper</a> from Pakistan. The ticket fare of the bus for one time trip from Pakistan to China will be ₹13,000 whereas it will cost ₹23,000 for the same journey beginning from China and ending in Pakistan.

China and Pakistan deepen their ‘friendship’ with a new bus service connecting both countries

Insiders confirmed to PTI that ICC chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice have specifically come to Lahore to get some assurances from the <keyword id="43712" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pakistan-Cricket-Board" source="Orion">Pakistan Cricket Board</keyword> on the national team's participation in the World Cup in October-November. The development comes after PCB chief Najam Sethi made it clear that the team will not travel for the World Cup in India if the Rohit Sharma led side doesn't visit Pakistan for the preceding Asia Cup. “The ICC and World Cup hosts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are concerned with the hybrid model being pushed by Najam Sethi who heads the cricket management committee of the PCB. “Although the hybrid model has been suggested by Sethi for the Asia Cup which precedes the ICC event, the concern remains that once accepted for the regional event the PCB might also then ask the ICC to implement it for the World Cup when it comes to Pakistan playing in India,” he explained. Sethi has already indicated that if the Pakistan government doesn't give clearance or has security concerns about sending the team to India, PCB could ask the ICC to hold Pakistan's matches at a neutral venue. “Naturally neither the ICC nor the BCCI want such a situation since Pakistan's unequivocal participation in matches in India would guarantee the success of Indo-Pakistan matches and also the tournament itself.” Another source said this was the primary reason why BCCI secretary Jay Shah was still reluctant to accept the hybrid model for the Asia Cup and support having three or four matches of the tournament in Pakistan and the remaining games in UAE or Sri Lanka. Pakistan are the hosts of the Asia Cup and Sethi has said repeatedly that if the tournament is moved to one neutral country from Pakistan, it will not take part in the competition. ICC top brass seeks PCB assurances that it will send team to India for ODI World Cup

Fahad Kahn is a proud American citizen and Pakistani-American.
But, in the industry he's chosen to work, Kahn hasn't always felt comfortable revealing his origins.
Kahn is a serial entrepreneur who has founded several companies in the tech sector.
Currently, he is the chairman of one, a marketing firm named One Public, and the CEO of another, Tube Centrex.
A couple weeks ago, we were out with Kahn having coffee and he told us that when he first moved to the United States and entered the tech industry, he sometimes quietly allowed people to believe he was born in India, not Pakistan.
We asked him to explain why he did this. In an email, Kahn sent this thoughtful reply:
I'm a very proud Pakistani-American. When I immigrated to the U.S. few years back, I was very afraid of discrimination based on my name, faith and origin. Whenever I was asked about my origin, I used to say I was from Lahore, which is my hometown. Many people confused Lahore with Bangalore and assumed it was in India. I never corrected them, thinking that Indian label might be better for business.
Overtime I realized that everyone is an immigrant in America. When I'm asked the origin question now, I say, "I'm a first-generation American and where are you originally from?"
To be clear, there is no place like America in the world for entrepreneurs but being an immigrant does come in the way sometimes. I won't say there is a race issue in tech, but if I were born here and white, all else constant, I would have been 10 years ahead of where I am today.&#xa0;
