The 'Made in India' 1.0 litre <keyword id="6417466" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Renault-Kwid">Renault Kwid</keyword> has been unveiled in Brazil by Renault Global CEO Carlos Ghosn. At the launch, Ghosn said that the series car will also be manufactured in India, at Renault's Ayrton Senna Industrial Complex in Curitiba, starting from later this year. 
 
Till then, Kwid models sold in the country will be imported from Renault's Chennai facility in India, assembled at its Sao Jose dos Pinhais plant. 
 
The car will get officially launched at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show in Brazil. 
 
After generating a lot of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Renaults-sales-soar-overthree-fold-in-April-all-thanks-to-Kwid/articleshow/52077514.cms">positive response in India</a>, the makers are hopeful that Kwid would also be a hit in the Latin American market. The Indian models have 800cc motor, and Kwid has jumped to the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Kwid-drives-Renault-Nissan-to-third-spot-in-Indian-domestic-sales/articleshow/53500144.cms">third position </a>in the passenger-car sales segment in the country. 
 
Renault is aiming at an 8% share in the Southern American market with its new offering, as against around 6.7% that it has now, and is hopeful of getting 10% in market share in the coming years. 
 
As per reports, the Brazilian Kwid will be sturdier and safer as compared to its Indian counterpart, so that it can meet the safety norms of the Latin NCAP, which are strict as compared to the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Indias-will-be-the-worlds-fourth-biggest-automobiles-market-by-2020-and-it-is-doesnt-have-its-own-safety-standards/articleshow/52322732.cms">Indian rules</a>. The Brazilian model would have a reinforced chassis along with dual front and side airbags, which would add a good 130kg to the model. Some other changes would also make the Brazilian Kwid a bit more expensive as compared to the Indian model.

Made in India Kwid will now grace Brazil roads

<keyword id="2246468" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kwid">Kwid</keyword> will now be available in Brazil. French auto major <keyword id="43777" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Renault">Renault</keyword> will begin exporting its entry-level <keyword id="43820" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hatchback">hatchback</keyword> Kwid to Brazil this year and is looking to ramp up production to 10,000 units by March at its Oragadam plant to meet domestic demand. 
 
Kwid, which received overwhelming response in the domestic market with more than one lakh bookings in four months since launch, would be the second Renault product to be exported after Duster, a top company official told PTI. 
 
Renault, which has set a target of garnering 5 per cent market share by end of 2017, has already touched 4.5 per cent in February, the official added. 
"We will be making exports of Kwid to Brazil in parts starting this year," Renault India Country CEO and MD Sumit Sawhney told. 
 
He said the company was exporting "small" numbers of its popular SUV Duster to Brazil and Kwid will be shipped as SKDs (semi-knocked down units). 
 
Declining to share the number of units of Kwid to be exported, he said one lakh bookings had been received for the car in the domestic market itself. 
 To address the local demand, he said the company would be ramping up the production at its alliance factory with <keyword id="46283" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nissan">Nissan</keyword> in Oragadam near Chennai. 
 
At present, Kwid has a waiting period of five-six months and with the ramping up of production, the company hopes to bring it down to three months. 
 
"Right now we are making about 6,000 units (per month). We want to increase it to 8,000 units (per month) and by March we will be crossing 10,000 units," he said. 
On the market share, Sawhney said the firm was confident of registering 5 per cent share by end of 2016 itself in the backdrop of successful launches of Kwid and Duster. 
 
"In December (2015) we had 4.5 per cent market share, then in January it was 3.8 per cent. This month we have 4.5 per cent market. We are working very hard to achieve 5 per cent market share by the second half of 2016," he said. 
 
On sales of Renault in 2016, he said the company would cross over one lakh sales in 2016 as against the total sales of 54,000 units in 2015. 
 
The company during the Delhi Auto Expo had showcased its automatic variant of Duster (4x4 variant), besides the one-litre engine capacity Kwid cars. 
 
"(With these launches this year) we will be selling more than one lakh cars this year," he said the new variants of Kwid and Duster would be introduced in 2016. 
 
 
As part of network expansion, the company would also increase the dealerships to 240, from the existing 205, by end of 2016, covering 96 per cent of the market. 
 
While stating that the success of Kwid was in the backdrop of its high localisation content at 98 per cent, he said the company was also working on taking up the local content levels in Duster from the present 70 per cent to 80 per cent by next year. 
 
The Renault-Nissan plant at Oragadam near Chennai has been set up at investments of over Rs 4,500 crore and has the capacity to produce about 4.80 lakh units operating in three shifts.

Renault to begin exporting Kwid to Brazil this year

Renault, the French multinational automobile manufacturer has announced that it will develop India into a hub of exports hub and will start shipping its popular small car <keyword id="2246468" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kwid">Kwid</keyword> to SAARC countries soon. 
 
The company would also be exporting the auto parts of Kwid to Brazil by the end of this month. 
 
"After that we will export Kwid to the Saarc countries such as Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka. If the demand is right then we will also export the car to Africa," said Renault's Chairman of Africa-Middle East-India Region Bernard Cambier. 
 
To be ready for the increasing demand, Renault is expanding its facility for Kwid and will also be increasing the capacity from the present 8,000 units per month to 10,000 units per month, as confirmed by Renault's India Country CEO and Managing Director Sumit Sawhney. 
 
"KWID is a great success and has revolutionised the compact hatchback segment, living true to our promise of creating a new era in automotive history. It has generated unprecedented success in its category," he added. 
 
At the auto expo that started today, Renault said that it has sold more than 100,000 units of the small car Kwid in just two months.

<keyword id="43777" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Renault">Renault</keyword> is now looking forward to exporting its small car <keyword id="2246468" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kwid">Kwid</keyword> to <keyword id="6355117" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="South-Africa">South Africa</keyword>, <keyword id="6356598" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhutan">Bhutan</keyword> and <keyword id="6354759" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bangladesh">Bangladesh</keyword> from India next year as it prepares to take the popular hatchback to various global markets. 
 The company has already started exporting the car to <keyword id="6355572" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sri-Lanka">Sri Lanka</keyword>, <keyword id="12266" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nepal">Nepal</keyword> and <keyword id="56022" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mauritius">Mauritius</keyword>. 
 "We started exports of Kwid with Sri Lanka, followed by Nepal and now we are going to Bhutan and Bangladesh," <keyword id="3943791" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="renault-india-operations-country">Renault India Operations Country</keyword> CEO and Managing Director <keyword id="6759232" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sumit-Sawhney">Sumit Sawhney</keyword> told PTI. 
 
The car will be exported to bhutan during the second half of next year while exports to Bangladesh would also begin towards the middle of next year, he added. 
 "We are also working on South <keyword id="12925" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Africa">Africa</keyword> currently and shipments are expected to be sent in the first quarter of next year," <keyword id="6918" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sawhney">Sawhney</keyword> said. 
 
Terming the Kwid as one of the biggest 'Make in India' success story, Sawhney said that the model will be host to markets outside India. 
 When asked if there would be sourcing of parts from India to the where manufacturing of the small car is expected to begin next year, Sawhney said: "When we say 98 per cent localisation, we got many suppliers in India so the markets especially, Mauritius and South Africa, the car is going to be built in India and exported. But when the car is going to be manufactured in <keyword id="6355226" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Brazil">Brazil</keyword>, we will see that wherever Indian suppliers are competitive, opportunities will come to those suppliers." 
 
Launched in September last year, Kwid has been a success for Renault in India. Initially, the car was available with an 800 cc engine at a price tag of Rs 2.64-3.73 lakh. Recently a 1,000 cc engine variant and one with automated manual transmission (AMT) have also been introduced. 
 
The company has so far retailed over 1.10 lakh units of the model in India since its launch last year.

Renault to drive Kwid in South Africa, Bhutan and Bangladesh from India

Being the uncrowned king of utility vehicle segment, Mahindra has some serious competition to worry about. Renault, who has already shook the small car market with path breaking Kwid, is now planning to launch a couple of utility vehicle soon. 
 
While no official statement has been made, The Economic Times found that two vehicles on the CMF-A platform are likely to be rolled out. To be priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, these two cars will be filling the gap between the entry-level Kwid and the new Duster and HHA. 
 
 
Mahindra has been putting efforts to create a new segment with the S101 micro SUV. Renault has now set its sights on the space occupied by the Mahindra XUV500 and plans to launch a new SUV, codenamed HHA, likely to be launched October 2017. 
 
The vehicle, based on the globally successful Captur design, will be introduced before two compact vehicles - an SUV and an MPV - take shape on the Common Module Family-A (CMF-A) platform. In between, an all-new Duster is scheduled to hit the market in 2018. 
Renault, which drove the compact urban SUV wave with Duster, had a 10% share in the utility vehicle market a few years ago. The share has shrunk to 7% now, with increased competition from Ford and Hyundai. To regain the lost market, Renault has planned to give a major facelift to Duster, including adding automatic transmission. 
 
"The new premium SUV (HHA) is an emerging market derivative of the Captur. It is based on the Logan M0-B platform, with a highly successful European styling and it will have an all-new longer body for markets like India, Russia and Brazil, and meet the practicality of seven seats," a source told the ET.
