"Our mission is to help people build families and live better lives. It's a purpose that the employees that work here can feel very connected to."Tailor joined Ferring in 2021 following roles at Johnson &amp; Johnson, American Express, and JP Morgan.She said that Ferring has grown more intentional about focusing on worker well-being, which is particularly important for the highly competitive field of healthcare. "The war for talent is always on and the best talent always have options," she said.The following interview has been edited for length and clarity.What are the benefits for companies focused on worker well-being?Our overarching philosophy is that if our workers have a good sense of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flexibility-can-increase-worker-well-being-2024-8">well-being</a>, ultimately, it helps our business be that much more successful. We've defined well-being in a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/employee-wellbeing-programs-help-companies-perform-better-and-manage-cost-2024-7">holistic way</a>, so it's not just about physical well-being; it's also about mental well-being and financial well-being. We've implemented various initiatives in the last two to three years that focus on each of those.You can provide a lot of tools and resources, but if you don't have the right culture within the company that people are experiencing, that obviously has a much more detrimental impact on employee experience. So, our approach is twofold. First, the benefits and the policies. And second, creating the right type of workplace that people want to be a part of.What specific programs are targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion?Relative to other companies that I've worked for, in some ways we've had the luxury to start a little bit later. Whereas some companies have been doing this for 20 years, for us it became more of a burning platform over the last couple of years.Since Covid and all the various things that have happened since, having an inclusive culture has really become one of the more important things for us.Because inclusion is something that can be very personal and difficult, we're partnering with an external event vendor to create smaller group experiences. We put a lot of things on the table and really try to make it an inclusive environment for understanding, sharing stories, and talking about different scenarios that happen in the workplace.We used scenarios that we've seen either happen at Ferring or outside, but real, lived, everyday kind of things that actually happen. Leaders found that really meaningful because it gave them an opportunity in a very safe environment to explore those situations and recognize them when they see them.The goal is to make sure that when they go back to their offices or desks, they're like, 'Okay, actually, I'm gonna be able to use that as I start to see things.'As Ferring has grown in the US, you've had to start many programs from scratch. What advice do you have for other companies that are just getting started thinking about DEI and worker well-being initiatives?What's really important is to ensure that whatever you're doing, you can connect it with the values of your company.With all of the various things that we're doing, especially in the wellness and DEI space, they align well with our values and our mission of helping people live better lives. It needs to come from an authentic place. Because it's sort of obvious when people are faking it.Our head of DEI in the US has so much passion for this space, and that really drives her as an individual and her purpose. The quality of what she puts out is remarkable, and she's able to create the right narrative that employees and leaders who are in positions to share it are able to grab some of that enthusiasm.What policies demonstrate your focus on worker well-being?One of the biggest things we've done in the last two years is a fertility benefit program called Building Families at Ferring with unlimited financial support for your journey, whether that's IVF, surrogacy, or adoption. So it covers all the many pathways that people could take to build a family.It also offers 26 weeks of paid parental leave and the policy is agnostic of your marital status and your family structures. It's truly a benefit for all that want to build a family.It's so core to our business. We thought we needed to give back to employees in the same way that we want to show up in the marketplace.What workforce issues are commonplace in the pharmaceutical industry?Attrition is systemic; it's just the norm. Over the last few years, we've managed to really stabilize the organization from an attrition perspective more so than we ever have in the previous five years.For us, retention of our talent is critical, as I know it is for all companies. You want to retain the best and make sure that they're developing and getting to whatever their aspirations are. Pharma is very competitive.We recently launched a uro-oncology business, and in the early part of this year, we hired about 60 people with roles across functions, including sales, marketing, finance, and medical. If the pharma market is generally very competitive, oncology is even more so. The things that we can do to make this a great place to work are a big part of how we approach that piece of talent management.

An investment of 10,000 in <keyword id="12226938" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kwality-pharma" source="Orion">Kwality Pharma</keyword> at the start of the year would be worth ₹1.55 lakh today. One of its lead products has been Remdesivir, whose demand shot through the roof, as many doctors prescribed the drug to provide relief to COVID-19 patients even when it was not a proven cure against the virus. <div type="image" title="kwality chart" height="900" width="1200" msid="86750900" hostid="261"></div> The exemplary returns in the stock can be attributed to strong profits booked by the company in the last couple of years. In FY21, the company’s net profit jumped 81% to ₹14.88 crore from ₹8.20 crore in FY20. The company is a prominent manufacturer and supplier of pharmaceutical formulations such as liquid orals, powder for oral suspension, tablets, capsules, sterile powder for injections, small volume injectables, ointments, external preparations, ORS, and many other products. “Kwality Pharmaceuticals as an exporting company has supplied Remdesivir Injection to the global market...The sale has gone up and it will keep on growing as many traders and the government have come to know about the medicine(s) of Kwality Pharmaceuticals.The company has also improved the infrastructure and plant &amp; machinery which can meet the global demand,” the company said in its annual report. <div type="image" title="kwality revenue" height="900" width="1200" msid="86750917" hostid="261"></div> Besides, the company has an ongoing research &amp; development project of ₹31 crore in Punjab that will be completed by September 2022. Kwality Pharma was set up in May 1983. According to the website, the company has two manufacturing plants, one in Amritsar (Punjab) and the other in Jassur (Himachal Pradesh), and has its <a href="https://kwalitypharma.com/about-us.php">products registered</a> in different countries of Europe, Africa, Asia, Central American, and South American Countries &amp; CIS Countries. It’s a largely family controlled organisation with Ramesh’s wife, brother and his wife, as well as his nephew (who is also the Chief Financial Officer), occupying seats on the board of directors. The company had 496 employees at the end of March 2021, according to the annual report. Thanks to Remdesivir, Kwality Pharma’s stock is up from ₹59 to over ₹922 in just over nine months

New Delhi, <keyword id="6367143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="LIC" source="Orion">LIC</keyword> on Thursday said it has sold 2 per cent of its holding in <keyword id="44642" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sun-Pharma" source="Orion">Sun Pharma</keyword> for Rs 4,699 crore via open market sale. Following the share sale, there is a decrease of 2 per cent in holding during the period from July 22, 2022 to September 13, 2023. "Corporation's shareholding in Sun Pharma has diluted from 12,05,24,944 to 7,22,68,890 equity shares decreasing its shareholding from 5.023 per cent to 3.012 per cent of the paid-up capital of the said company," LIC said in a regulatory filing. The shares were sold at an average price of Rs 973.80 per share during the period through an open market sale in an ordinary course of transaction, it said. Sun Pharma is engaged in the business of manufacturing, developing and marketing a wide range of branded and generic formulations and Active Pharma Ingredients (APls). Shares of the country's largest state-owned insurer, LIC, closed at Rs 660.80 apiece on BSE, up by 0.27 per cent. Sun Pharma shares ended 0.8 per cent up at Rs 1,143.60.

LIC sells over 2% stake in Sun Pharma for Rs 4,699 crore

The country's drugs and <keyword id="20006091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmaceuticals" source="keywords">pharmaceuticals</keyword> exports increased 9.67 per cent year-on-year to USD 27.9 billion in 2023-24, even as the total exports dipped by 3 per cent in the last fiscal. According to the commerce ministry data, <keyword id="20988985" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharma-exports" source="keywords">pharma exports</keyword> in March grew by 12.73 per cent to USD 2.8 billion. In 2022-23, the exports stood at USD 25.4 billion. The top five export markets, for the sector during the last fiscal, are the US, the UK, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil. The US accounts for over 31 per cent of <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s total pharma exports, followed by the UK and Netherlands (about 3 per cent each). In 2023-24, the outbound shipments also entered new geographies like Montenegro, South Sudan, Chad, Comoros, Brunei, Latvia, Ireland, Chad, Sweden, Haiti and Ethiopia. An industry expert said that increasing market opportunities and healthy demand in countries like the US are helping exports to record healthy growth rates month after month. Experts have said that India's pharmaceutical business may exceed USD 130 billion by 2030, supported by expanding market opportunities and heightened demand in the overseas markets. The business stood at over USD 50 billion for the 2022-23. On average, India exports pharma products worth USD 2-3 billion every month. India's pharmaceutical industry is the third largest by volume and the 13th largest by value in the world, producing more than 60,000 <keyword id="20581305" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="generic-drugs" source="keywords">generic drugs</keyword> across 60 therapeutic categories. The government has rolled out two production-linked incentive (<keyword id="19958919" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pli" source="keywords">PLI</keyword>) schemes to promote domestic manufacturing of key pharmaceutical ingredients and generic medicines. India's pharma exports rise 10% to $27.9 bn in FY24

<ul><li><keyword id="407979" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ajanta-pharma" source="Orion">Ajanta Pharma</keyword> today announced its plans to buy back 11.20 lakh shares from the market at ₹2,550 per share, which is 10% more than the current market price.</li><li>This is the third share buy back strategy of the company so far.</li><li>In 2020, the company had bought 7.35 lakh shares at ₹1,850 per share and in 2019 it had bought 7.69 lakh shares at ₹1,300.</li></ul>Shares of Ajanta Pharma surged 7% today after the company announced a share buy back of 11.20 lakh shares at ₹2,550 per share, which is nearly 17% above the previous close price of ₹2,180.30. This is the third buyback done by the company in the last three years. "Amidst significant global challenges posed by high-interest rates, macroeconomic uncertainty, regulatory scrutiny, and geopolitical risks, India's M&amp;A landscape stood resilient in 2023," 'India M&amp;A Trends 2024' report said. "Despite global economic and geopolitical challenges, India's deals market is expected to remain steady, reflecting strong confidence from businesses and investors amidst a global economic slowdown," it added. In 2024, M&amp;A (Merger and Acquisition) momentum is expected to remain steady with the manufacturing sector, driven by automotive, with deal growth expected in auto-components and <keyword id="19895203" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-vehicles" source="keywords">Electric Vehicles</keyword> (EVs). Also, the government's proactive initiatives to promote clean energy are expected to catalyse a significant rise in M&amp;A within the energy sector. M&amp;A in the financial services sector is anticipated to be driven by large-scale consolidations and responses to regulatory shifts. Private Equity (PE) is projected to remain consistent in 2024, while deal momentum is expected to revive post-2024, supported by flattening interest rates and recovering economic growth. <keyword id="20733110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sumeet-salwan" source="keywords">Sumeet Salwan</keyword>, <keyword id="19964686" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="partner" source="keywords">Partner</keyword>, Consulting, Deloitte India, said, "The global challenges posed by high interest rates, macroeconomic uncertainty, and geopolitical risks, that characterised 2023 are expected to continue into 2024 as well. While the global M&amp;A market remains soft, Indian companies continue to be steered by a strong domestic economy. They may increasingly see M&amp;A as a crucial strategy to help them expand, integrate supply chains, and reinforce market positions." According to the report, M&amp;A deal value in India reduced to USD 136 billion in 2023 from USD 186 billion in 2022. Financial services, technology, media, and telecom (<keyword id="20147197" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tmt" source="keywords">TMT</keyword>) continue to be the top sectors driving M&amp;A. Financial services sector witnessed a 45 per cent decline in deal value and a 23 per cent increase in deal volume from 2022. TMT sector encountered a 33 per cent YoY (Year on Year) reduction in deal value, while deal volume fell 34 per cent. Overall cross-border deal value declined 11 per cent in 2023. However, inbound deals saw significant growth, with their share increasing to 41 per cent from 27 per cent in 2022, it said, adding that outbound M&amp;A deal value experienced a notable 49 per cent decline compared to 2022. The energy sector saw a sharp 63 per cent increase in deal value in 2023 as compared to 2022, driven by renewable energy and rising interest in clean energy from foreign investors. The construction and transport sector witnessed a 44 per cent decline in deal value compared to 2022. The sector also had the highest share in outbound deal value, contributing 29 per cent to the same. The medical and pharma sector witnessed a 17 per cent fall in deal value from 2022, driven largely by strategic buyers seeking to expand scale. The industrial and manufacturing sector witnessed a significant 33 per cent and 22 per cent rise in deal value and volume, respectively, in 2023 compared to 2022. "The rise in the manufacturing sector was driven by the automotive segment," the report said.
