Five years after losing unexpectedly from Guna as the Congress candidate, Jyotiraditya Scindia, representing the current generation of the family in MP's politics, is back in the fray in his backyard, but this time as the nominee of his erstwhile political rival and with a different election symbol against his name on the EVM. The 53-year-old politician is the grandson of one of the BJP founders, Vijaya Raje Scindia, and son of former Union minister the late Madhavrao Scindia. The Guna Lok Sabha seat, part of the Scindias' home turf which also includes Gwalior, is spread across eight assembly seats in Guna, Shivpuri and Ashok Nagar districts. The Congress, looking to settle scores with Jyotiraditya Scindia in the poll fray after it lost its government in Madhya Pradesh following his exit exactly four years ago, is yet to name its candidate from Guna. It was a rare electoral shock for former Gwalior royals when the Union Minister for Civil Aviation faced defeat in 2019 at the hands of the BJP candidate and his old loyalist, KP Yadav, by a margin of around 1.26 Lakh votes. In 2024, Scindia is again testing electoral waters, but under the banner of a different party - the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - the political home to his parental aunts - former Rajasthan Chief Minister <keyword id="21082885" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vasundhara-raje-scindia" source="keywords">Vasundhara Raje Scindia</keyword> and ex-MP minister <keyword id="21082884" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yashodhara-raje" source="keywords">Yashodhara Raje</keyword>. "After decades of consciously choosing divergent political parties, the house of Scindias is finally settling down as per their past and ideological leanings. The Guna parliamentary seat was represented by Rajmata Scindia for 6 times, while her son Madhavrao Scindia won it on four occasions. Besides Guna, Rajmata Scindia represented the Gwalior Lok Sabha seat, part of the family turf, once. Madhavrao Scindia was elected five times from Gwalior, once as the candidate of the Madhya Pradesh Vikas Congress, an outfit floated by him. Rajmata Scindia's daughter Yashodhara Raje also represented the Gwalior seat in the Lok Sabha twice for the BJP. Jyotiraditya Scindia has represented the Guna seat four times between 2002 and 2014, including after winning in a bypoll. A year after his defeat, he joined the BJP in March 2020 along with 22 Congress MLAs, leading to the collapse of the Kamal Nath-led government in Madhya Pradesh. The defeat of Jyotiraditya Scindia in 2019 was the second setback for the Scindias in the Lok Sabha elections. In 1984, the Union minister's aunt and former Rajasthan CM <keyword id="20004780" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vasundhara-raje" source="keywords">Vasundhara Raje</keyword> had faced defeat as the BJP candidate from the Bhind Lok Sabha seat. New Delhi, The BCCI on Tuesday declared <keyword id="19907058" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rishabh-pant" source="keywords">Rishabh Pant</keyword> fit to play as a wicketkeeper-batter in the upcoming IPL, brightening his prospects of a national comeback in the T20 World Cup after suffering multiple injuries in a harrowing car crash 14 months ago. Pant, who will once again be back as Delhi Capitals skipper, has undergone extensive rehabilitation and is ready to shoulder the dual responsibility in the event starting March 22, ending weeks of speculation surrounding his exact role in the league. "After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming IPL 2024," said the BCCI in a statement. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the USA in June. A few weeks back, Pant, in an interaction with <keyword id="19925553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="star-sports" source="keywords">Star Sports</keyword>, had recalled telling his doctor that he would shave off at least six months from his recovery timeline. "I asked the doctor how long will it take for me to recover. I told him that everybody is speaking different things, but you will give me the most clarity about it. He (Doctor) said it would take 16 to 18 months. I told the doctor from whatever timeline you give me, I will reduce six months from it," Pant had told the official TV broadcasters of IPL. The National Cricket Academy had declared him fit a week back after he passed all the fitness tests related to his 'Return To Play' (RTP). It has been learnt that he batted for long hours and more importantly, kept wickets for extensive periods in match simulations organised by the NCA. There was speculation that he might play only as an 'Impact Player' or batter but one of India's biggest match-winners in the past six years has managed to get back in shape to go full throttle. Pant keeping wickets also means that he would have a fair chance of playing the T20 World Cup if he can come up with some impactful innings during the IPL season. "If he can make the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us. If he can keep, he can play the World Cup. Let's see how he does in the IPL," BCCI secretary <keyword id="19930802" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jay-shah" source="keywords">Jay Shah</keyword> had recently told PTI in an exclusive interaction. Pant was present at the Capitals table during the IPL auction last year, and has been working on his fitness at the NCA after recovering from the injuries sustained in the unfortunate incident. The accident had left Pant with a severe right knee injury that required a ligament reconstruction surgery besides a fractured wrist and ankle. But he has done well to bounce back. "If there was any nerve damage, there was a possibility of amputation. That is when I felt scared," Pant had said in Star Sports series 'Believe: To Death &amp; Back' which documented his recovery. "I had taken an SUV, but what I was seeing was a sedan," he quipped as he remembered his mangled vehicle. "There was someone around so I asked if he could help getting the leg back in the position. He helped the knee get back in place. "It was the first time I had such a feeling in life. At the time of the accident, I was aware of the wounds, but I was lucky as it could have been even more serious," he recollected. The big-hitter had said the process of recovery was boring at best and frustrating at worst. "I was focusing on recovery cut off from the world. It helped me in recovering fast, especially when the injury is so serious. For recovery, you have to do the same thing every day. Shami is not expected back before September this year. "The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2024," the BCCI statement read. Lanky fast bowler <keyword id="19916334" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="prasidh-krishna" source="keywords">Prasidh Krishna</keyword> (Rajasthan Royals), who had an unsuccessful Test debut in South Africa is also being monitored by the BCCI medical team. PTI had reported in January that Prasidh will be out for an extensive period. "The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the NCA soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming IPL 2024," the BCCI said.

The initial share-sale will open for a public subscription during February 22-26. The bidding for anchor investors will open for a day on February 21, the company said. The IPO is a combination of a fresh issue of equity shares aggregating to Rs 40 crore and an Offer For Sale (OFS) of up to 2.6 crore equity shares by private equity firm BanyanTree Growth Capital II. BanyanTree, which holds 2.6 crore shares or 32.64 per cent stake in Kolkata-based GPT Healthcare, is divesting its entire shareholding in the company. Proceeds from the fresh issue to the tune of Rs 30 crore will be used for payment of debt and general corporate purposes. At the upper end of the price, the IPO will mobilise Rs 501.67 crore. Krishna predicted that programmers would become 30% more productive because of AI. "I don't intend to get rid of a single one. I'll get more," he said about the company's programmers during <a target="_blank" href="https://fortune.com/2023/10/03/ibms-ceo-automate-repetitive-white-collar-job-not-cutting-workers/">Fortune's CEO Initiative conference</a> on Tuesday. Krishna further said that his company was increasing the number of software engineering and sales roles in the next three to four years but expected to phase out back-office HR roles. This meant more jobs were created than lost due to AI, he said, adding: "The increase was like 8,000. The decrease was like 800." "The first thing you can automate is a repetitive, white-collar job," said Krishna. He added that while AI could take over 10 to 20% of "lower level" tasks, it was unlikely to automate away somebody's entire job. Krishna previously said his company would halt hiring for certain jobs that could be replaced by AI. "I could easily see 30% of that getting replaced by AI and automation over a five-year period," Krishna <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ibm-halts-hiring-for-7800-jobs-that-could-be-replaced-by-ai-report-2023-5">told Bloomberg</a> in May — a figure that equates to around 7,800 jobs at IBM's human resources division. For context, there is growing concern over AI's impact on jobs. A May report by survey platform Pollfish found that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/american-workers-worry-ai-will-threaten-their-pay-survey-2023-5">around 8 in 10</a> US workers surveyed were worried that adopting AI could lead to pay cuts. Studies have also pointed to AI boosting workers' productivity but with a greater impact on less skilled workers. An April study that equipped <a target="_blank" class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-boosts-productivity-happier-at-work-chatgpt-research-2023-4">customer service representatives</a> with AI tools found that the lowest-skilled workers saw a productivity boost of 35% — while higher-skilled workers saw "closer to 0%." Meanwhile, a similar study in September, conducted on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-employees-lower-performers-most-impact-boston-consulting-group-2023-9">management consultants,</a> found below-average performers gaining a productivity boost of 43%, while their above-average counterparts only saw a boost of 17%. A strong proponent of AI and its future impact on certain repetitive and mundane human tasks, Krishna told IANS that some of the fears associated with AI are well-founded. "With AI, there a possibility that you can have misinformation spread really fast now. AI can make misinformation more persuasive. However, stopping AI won't achieve any purpose as bad actors will move from one country to another to spread harm as AI can easily cross boundaries," noted the Indian-origin CEO of the tech behemoth. In such a scenario, regulating bad and harmful use cases of AI would be a sensible and practical way forward. "The goal should be to spot those bad AI use cases and tell those behind it that if we catch you, you can be subjected to penalties, fines and criminal cases, etc," said Krishna. During the 'B20 Summit India 2023' last week, Krishna saidAI will take on certain low-level tasks and boost overall productivity, thus helping economics and companies grow faster. The aim, he said, is to make sure that tech companies have a "secure and accountable AI". Meanwhile, the Indian government will not regulate AI but rather adopt the approach of regulating user harm from AI and create robust guardrails, Union Minister of <keyword id="9950217" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="state-for-electronics" source="Orion">State for Electronics</keyword> and IT, <keyword id="205969" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajeev-chandrasekhar" source="Orion">Rajeev Chandrasekhar</keyword>, recently told IANS. "AI will be a kinetic enabler of our digital economy and the government sees it that way," the Minister stressed. Krishna also maintained that we need to make the bad actors pay in the ever-evolving field of AI. "I don't think pausing or licensing AI altogether will be an effective step," he told IANS. India aims to become a global powerhouse of AI which does not just stop on integrating foreign chatbots but building next-generation AI-based innovations to empower billions of citizens.
