Samson is outdoing his competition, sitting at the fourth spot in the IPL 2024 run charts with 385 runs at an average of 77.00 and a strike rate of 161.08, with four half-centuries. His best score is 82*. Rahul is the fifth-highest run-scorer this season, with 378 runs at an average of 42.00 and four half-centuries, though his strike rate of around 144 is quite low as compared to other compatriots. Pant is the sixth-highest run-getter with 371 runs in 10 matches at an average of 46.37 and a strike rate of 160.60, with three fifties. His best score is 88*. Kishan, who does not have a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) central contract, is doing worst among all, with just 212 runs in nine games at an average of 23.55 and a half-century, but his strike rate of 165.62 is the best among the contenders. IPL form is not expected to play a huge role in the team selection. The management and selectors are believed to be excited about LSG pace sensation Mayank Yadav's pace and control, but he is nursing an injury and that may likely put an end to possibility of his getting a T20 World Cup berth. The top four had been more or less decided before the IPL, with skipper Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal set to open, Virat Kohli at number three and number one-ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav at number four. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is battling with Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh. As per ESPNCricinfo, his bowling fitness during MI's matches is a concern. He bowls mostly two overs per match for his franchise in the IPL and has done very little in the league as a performer. If India were to take Shivam Dube and Rinku to the WC, they will have to leave out either a back-up keeper or a back-up bowler. It would most likely be a choice between Rinku and a back-up pacer. Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja could be preferred over Axar Patel as the spin-bowling all-rounder and Axar could be in the squad as a back-up. Kuldeep is likely to feature as the sole finger spinner in the squad of 15. Also, Mohammed Shami's injury has lessened India's fast bowling stocks, with Jasprit Bumrah set to lead the attack. Arshdeep Singh's left-arm pace is highly likely to be a part of Indian set-up, despite his disappointing performances in death overs. Sanju Samson likely to be India's first-choice wicketkeeper for T20 World Cup

It was a natural ascension for <keyword id="282" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kishan" source="Orion">Kishan</keyword> when he was included in India's World Cup squad as the second wicketkeeper batsman behind <keyword id="6355454" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kl-rahul" source="Orion">KL Rahul</keyword>. However, his journey to the top has not always been a rosy one. Kishan had to shift from Patna to Ranchi in search of better cricketing facilities. "He is a fighter from a very young age, and was clear in his career as a cricketer. His practice nets (SAIL grounds) were very close to MS Dhoni's house, and he always wanted to follow Mahi bhai's footsteps, and keeps watching his videos. "Luckily for him the JSCA Stadium, where they have turf wickets, was opened in 2013, and it helped him a lot to develop his game," said Monu Kumar, the Jharkhand pacer and a close friend of Kishan. It is easy to mistake Kishan for a clone of Dhoni - a destructive batter who keeps wickets, and both of them come from the same state. But there is more to Kishan than being a mere Dhoni progeny. Former India stumper Kiran More, who has worked with Kishan since 2018 at the NCA as well as at the Mumbai Indians, shared more details about the many contours of his ward's game. "He is a natural at everything he does. I was at the NCA for a wicketkeepers' camp and Kishan had others like <keyword id="956633" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sanju-samson" source="Orion">Sanju Samson</keyword> in his batch. Kishan was so athletic and he had such soft hands even at that age," More told PTI. More said he did not have to tweak Kishan's game much, and just had to make some minor corrections. "He came with a naturally good game. I had to tell him a bit about his head and squatting positions. We also worked a bit on his ball collection and a few other minor techniques. "Later, we worked on the same things a bit more during my time at the Mumbai Indians. What stands out is his ability to adapt and willingness to learn," said More. Those abilities came to the fore when he was asked to bat at No. 5, a first in his nascent career, during the Asia Cup match against Pakistan last week here at Pallekele. Kishan fully exploited the opportunity handed to him making a fluent 82 off 81 balls. More was pleased to see the development of Kishan as a genuine wicket-keeper batter. "Yes, I am sure he will make an impact for India. He is a long-term player and you will not get such players very often. "Kishan being a left-hander will add more variety to the Indian batting order, you know that left-right combination...a dream for any team management," said More. Kishan's knock against Pakistan was all the more important because it came against a top-class bowling unit and India were struggling at 66 for 4 at one stage. Kishan's innings offered little surprise to Mumbai Indians assistant batting coach and former Karnataka batter J Arunkumar. "Many times, we only see one side of his (Kishan's) batting because he is such a fabulous hitter of the ball. But there is more to his batting than that eye-catching shot-making. "He is calm and collected under any situation. That mature head is his biggest asset," said Arunkumar. More agreed to the point. "Yes! He still has a long way to go. But he gives India a brilliant option, and Kishan is quite handy at any batting slot. "Now, we have four excellent wicketkeeper batters - Pant, Rahul, Kishan and Samson. Ishan Kishan's rise: From a humble village to India's trusted wicketkeeper-batter

"Well, India is like a second home to me. Looking at the young promising cricketers in India, it is something that I've grown up doing... You want to perform well for the team, for yourself, for your family, especially having so many great players here in West Indies they can always interact with them, like you guys," said Kishan. "They can come to you (Lara) and talk about it at this beautiful academy, they will get to learn a lot with your experience and everything, so these are little things that will help youngsters." When it was Gill's turn to talk, he said Lara's flamboyant batting inspired him a lot. "All my memories of him is smashing the bowlers and taking on the bowlers whenever I used to see him, especially in red ball. "You used to be one of those people who used to go and straightaway, from ball one, you would take on the bowlers and take on the challenge, and that really inspired us as a kid, to be able to... how to dominate the game in all formats," Gill said. Lara said he was "so happy" to have these two young men "at the stadium, or the academy in my name". During the interaction, Kishan also said that he had once received a message from Lara on Instagram, which left him "shocked" as he was not expecting something like that from a player of his stature. "I think for me the most important thing is like the stories I have heard, like you always used to bat till lunch and if you are there on the pitch you go to practice and then again come to bat. So that is something to learn from you. "And also I was very excited when once you texted me on Instagram and I was actually in shock, like how come you texted me. Such a legend of this game texted me and I was really very happy about it. "So performing here, where your name is there on the board, it was really special for me to perform here, and I love to watch highlights of your innings, how you used to do that (high backlift) and play shots," Kishan said. Gill was also asked about the facility at the stadium. "I think it's a great facility, fantastic ground, I have played here actually in 2019 as well and scored a double hundred. A 28-year-old Indian-origin <keyword id="38935" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fraud" source="Orion">fraud</keyword>ster who targeted elderly and vulnerable victims in a scam impersonating a police officer or a bank official has been sentenced by a <keyword id="6354968" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="London" source="Orion">London</keyword> court to eight years of imprisonment on nine counts of fraud by false representation. <keyword id="18177369" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kishan-bhatt" source="Orion">Kishan Bhatt</keyword> was sentenced at <keyword id="347034" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="snaresbrook-crown-court" source="Orion">Snaresbrook Crown Court</keyword> on Tuesday, after pleading guilty in November last year at the same court, the <keyword id="157066" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Metropolitan-Police" source="Orion">Metropolitan Police</keyword> said. An investigation by the force's Specialist Economic Crime team found Bhatt had defrauded nine victims out of more than GBP 260,000 in total, besides numerous further attempts that were blocked by financial institutions or jewellers. "Fraud is far from a victimless offence, and the repercussions for the numerous victims involved in this situation extend beyond mere financial loss," said Detective Constable Sarah Cook, from the Met's Economic Crime division. "The emotional toll has been immense, leading to severe distress and devastation for those affected. Without the bank's goodwill gesture, these victims would have been deprived of their life savings," she said. "The outcome demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Met in relentlessly pursuing individuals like Bhatt who engage in fraudulent activities. Our determination remains resolute in ensuring that such offenders are held accountable and brought to justice," she added. The Met Police were able to identify victims in London and Norfolk, eastern England after a jeweller in London's Hatton Garden area contacted police about an elderly, vulnerable woman attending their shop to buy gold. Bhatt's accomplice Artiom Kiseliov, 35, was sentenced to four-and-a-half-years' imprisonment last year in April on one count of fraud by false representation at Kingston Crown Court, outside London in Kingston Upon Thames. Kiseliov's arrest followed a suspicious jeweller contacting police in relation to a 90-year-old victim who had been contacted by a man claiming to be a police officer who had arrested a male with her bank card. The caller told the old lady she needed to protect her money and to do this she needed to invest in gold and jewellery as fraudsters would not be able to access it this way. She was instructed to buy expensive watches in excess of GBP 90,000 over a two-week period and then Kiseliov attended her home address to collect these on a number of occasions. She was advised that the men would keep them safe for her. In January 2022, Bhatt and Kiseliov drove her to Hatton Garden in London in an attempt to get her to buy gold as she believed she was helping the police with their investigation. The men had told her that the jewellers were corrupt and they would value the gold she bought, which would confirm the corruption. The jewellers asked for identification and told the woman to return another day whilst they completed ID checks and ordered the gold to store. She was driven to further jewellery stores by the fraudsters and made purchases, however, these were still pending when police were alerted and were cancelled by the jewellers. Met Police detectives launched an investigation and identified the vehicle Bhatt and Kiseliov used to transport the victim to these jewellers. Further enquiries obtained a phone number for Bhatt under an alias he was using. The police were able to establish that between September 2020 and May 2022, Bhatt targeted nine victims - aged between 29 and 90 - who were approached whilst he posed as a bank employee, a landlord and a police officer. Once he had gained their trust, he transferred money out of their accounts. The majority of the money has been refunded to the victims by banks, the Met Police said.
