Bengaluru, Drone manufacturer <keyword id="4610420" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Garuda-Aerospace" source="Orion">Garuda Aerospace</keyword> said on Tuesday it has secured an order of 400 Agri Kisan Drones from Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (<keyword id="74204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iffco" source="Orion">IFFCO</keyword>). This takes Garuda <keyword id="84758" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aerospace" source="Orion">Aerospace</keyword>'s order book tally to 10,000 drones for this year within the first three months, it said in a statement. "The collaboration between Garuda Aerospace and IFFCO aims to revolutionise the agricultural sector by introducing the Garuda Kisan Drone at the 'IFFCO Drone Yatra' in Karnataka. These state-of-the-art drones will enable farmers to utilise Nano Urea spraying through Precision Agriculture Drones, maximising their efficiency and productivity," it said. According to the statement, IFFCO has launched a nationwide campaign to procure 2,500 'Kisan Drones' as spray solutions for their products -- Nano Urea and Nano DAP. This initiative not only supports the development of around 5,000 rural entrepreneurs trained in drone spraying but also promotes sustainable agriculture and holistic cooperative development, it said.

Garuda Aerospace also said it has an order book of 5,000 drones. According to Garuda Aerospace, the DGC Type Certification is provided on the basis of the quality check of the drones and is issued after a rigorous testing process for the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The Type certification was introduced by the Indian government in August 2021 under Drone Rules. Following the Type Certification for the GA-AG model, Garuda Kisan Drone - priced at Rs.4.50 lakh- is now eligible for Rs.10 lakh unsecured loan from Agri Infrastructure Fund at five per cent and 50-100 per cent subsidy from the Government of India. "We are powered and blessed with strong demands of manufacturing 5,000 drones in the next five months catering to many opportunities. Named Kisan Drone, it is a battery-powered device that can spray pesticides over a 30-acre land area per day. “Our Droni drone is indigenous and can be used for different surveillance purposes. It is efficient, seamless and high quality from a tech and build standpoint,” the company’s founder and CEO Agnishwar Jayaprakash said, without divulging the specifications of the product. It is worth noting that Dhoni is also an investor in the company, and its brand ambassador. Besides these two drones, Garuda Aerospace has several others already available for purchase, with each one of them aimed at addressing different needs like surveillance, mapping, solar panel cleaning, agricultural seeding, and an inspection drone – which is in use in Telangana. To promote smart farming, the government promotes startups in the agriculture sector and nurtures agri-entrepreneurs. The 'Per Drop More Crop' component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana (PMKSY-PDMC) aims to increase water use efficiency at the farm level through micro irrigation technologies like drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. PMKSY is a scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The <keyword id="87560" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Council-of-Agricultural-Research" source="Orion">Indian Council of Agricultural Research</keyword> (ICAR) promotes innovation, extension and education in agriculture. A total of 1,575 field crop varieties were released for different agricultural crops during 2014-21. During 2014-21, 91.43 crore agri-advisories were provided to farmers through mobiles. ICAR developed 187 mobile apps on different farm and farmer related services during 2014-21. The agriculture sector plays a vital role in enriching India's economy. Agriculture accounted for almost 17.8 per cent of India's Gross Value Added (GVA) in 2019- 20. According to the World Bank's collection of development indicators, employment rate in the Indian agriculture sector stood at 41.5 per cent in 2020. From a socio-economic standpoint, agriculture is a vital sector which requires focus and awareness at all levels. According to India Brand Equity Foundation, the rising population and changing diets have created a huge pressure on land in India. Farmers are struggling to keep up as crop yields level off, soil degradation rises, water shortage increases, biodiversity declines, and natural calamities become more frequent. Furthermore, agriculture accounts for almost 14 per cent of India's total greenhouse gas emissions. In the meantime, the NITI Aayog (erstwhile Planning Commission of India) conducted a study entitled "Efficacy of Minimum Support Prices on farmers", in 2016, which found, among other things, that MSP declared by the government has encouraged 78 per cent of the farmers covered under the study for adopting improved methods of farming such as high yielding varieties of seeds, organic manure, chemical fertilizer, pesticides and improved methods of harvesting etc. Additionally, oilseeds, pulses and copra of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) are procured from registered farmers under Price Support Scheme of the umbrella scheme of Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), as per its prescribed guidelines. The Indian national Budget for 2018-19 had announced the pre-determined principle to keep Minimum Support Price or MSP at levels of one-and-half times of the cost of production. Accordingly, government has increased the MSPs for all mandated Kharif (including wheat), Rabi and other commercial crops with a return of at least 50 per cent over all India weighted average cost of production from the agricultural year 2018-19. Moreover, India's National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) is the only source of enrolment for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), on which farmer applications from various designated sources including banks/financial institutions are entered. Specific cut-off dates have been prescribed for enrolment of farmers, debit of premium, remittance of farmers' premium to concerned insurance company and uploading of data of farmers on NCIP. The <keyword id="603825" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Food-Processing-Industries" source="Orion">Ministry of Food Processing Industries</keyword> (MoFPI) has been incentivising setting of food processing industries through central sector umbrella scheme �Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) and centrally sponsored scheme �PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme across all the country. Under scheme of creation of infrastructure for agro processing clusters, a component scheme of PMKSY, the scheme is aimed at development of modern infrastructure and common facilities to encourage entrepreneurs to set up food processing units based on cluster approach and also to create modern infrastructure for food processing closer to production areas and to provide integrated and complete preservation infrastructure facilitates from the farm gate to the consumer. Smart farming can prove to be a game changer in the coming days

The 2017 edition of <keyword id="6373044" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Forbes">Forbes</keyword>’s list of super achievers under the age of 30 is out and nearly 30 Indian-origin innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders featured in the list as they seek to break the status quo and transform the world. 
 
The list has 30 game changers in 20 industries which include healthcare, manufacturing, sports and finance. 
 
The first 600 in the list are "challenging the conventional wisdom and rewriting the rules for the next generation of entrepreneurs, entertainers, educators and more. They are passionate and formidable bunch, and for good reason. Their goal is nothing short of breaking the status quo and transforming the world." 
In those 600, more than 30 men and women of Indian-origin are listed and are making a mark in their fields. 
 
The list includes 27-year-old Vivek Kopparthi, cofounder of NeoLight that has developed a phototherapy device that is portable for use at home for jaundice. 
 
The company is also working on a second tool to treat infant hypothermia. 
 Prarthna Desai, 27, left her <keyword id="53675" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="harvard">Harvard</keyword> graduate school programme to use drones to gmedication to people in the developing world. 
 
In her operations role at the healthcare company Zipline, she is leading efforts to integrate the medicine- delivery-by-drone service with the healthcare system in Rwanda. 
 Shaun Patel, 28, is the orthopedic surgery chief resident at <keyword id="20988" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Harvard-Medical-School">Harvard Medical School</keyword> and has dozens of scientific publications in surgery journals. 
 
His company, OrthoNinja, aims to streamline communication between doctors by creating a mobile app that allows doctors to consult with one another.

 In manufacturing and industry, Neha Gupta, 28, played a role in the sale of Beats by Dre to <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword>. 
 
She manages manufacturing and supply chain for DAQRI, which makes augmented reality headsets to improve safety and efficiency for industrial workers. 
 Featured in the social entrepreneurs category is Aditya Agarwalla, 23, Cofounder of Kisan Network, The <keyword id="154037" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Princeton-University">Princeton University</keyword> dropout co-founded the Kisan Network, which is an online marketplace for small-scale farmers in India. 
 In the sports category is <keyword id="18901" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Akshay-Khanna">Akshay Khanna</keyword>, 29, Vice President of Strategy for American football team Philadelphia 76ers. 
 
Among the top guns in the venture capital sector is Anarghya Vardhana, 28, who joined the firm Maveron after spending a year at Rothenberg Ventures, where she launched a virtual reality accelerator and sourced and made seed investments in a dozen startups in the virtual reality space. 
 
Akshay Goyal, 28, is the Vice President of Starwood Capital. 
 
The youngest vice president in Starwood's history when he was promoted at the age 26, Goyal focuses on hotel acquisitions and has helped drive over USD 7 billion in deals. 
 
Recently he helped sell a portfolio of 240 US hotels to China Life for USD 2 billion. 
 
In the consumer technology sector is Ajay Yadav, 29, who is the founder of Roomi, a startup app that lets users find the right roommate to live with, chat with each other, search for listings, apply for an apartment and pay rent.

Social networking giant Facebook has renamed its Internet.org app and launched it as Free Basics, a mobile app and website through which users can access certain services free of data charges. 
 Free Basics, targeted at countries like India, will now be one of the several initiatives under the Internet.org program which has a mission of connecting the unconnected population to the Internet. "We wanted to strike a differentiation between Internet.org and program with operator partnerships," said <keyword id="1989443" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chris-Daniels">Chris Daniels</keyword>, VP of Internet.org. 

	The company is also experimenting with Express Wi-Fi, a program to provide wi-fi in rural areas in India, top executives said.
 

	The Free Basics app and mobile website went live in India with over 60 partnerships including services like English Dost, MeraDoctor and M-Kisan on Thursday. "We will have over 60 new developers and partners across 19 countries on Free Basics," said Ime Archibong, Director- Product Partnerships at Facebook.
 

	When Facebook had rolled out Internet.org in India with telecom operator Reliance, it had come under fire from various quarters. It was termed a "walled garden" because the company got to choose which developers got to be on the platform.
 However, in May, Facebook CEO <keyword id="6354630" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mark-Zuckerberg">Mark Zuckerberg</keyword> said that the platform will be opened up for all developers who can build their apps to the specifications put out by Facebook. 

	"The fears that have been spread by some of our critics are simply not true. Internet.org was not designed to be a destination but its a digital literacy tool where people learn about the Internet and go on to explore all of it," said Daniels.
 

	Any developer which meets the specifications listed can be on the platform, said Facebook.
 

	The company said that operators have observed that people started accessing Internet 50% faster if they were given Internet.org. "After just 30 days, over half of people have moved on to the larger internet and gone beyond the free basic access," Daniels said.
 

	"We've had a lot of discussion in India about free basic services. A lot of that discussion has been based on unfounded fears by our critics. They are afraid that it is going to be a destination and people will be confused that this is the whole Internet. The facts speak for themselves," he said.
 

	Internet.org will also include initiatives like the Facebook Connectivity Labs which is building solar powered drones and systems that use satellites or laser technologies to transmit data.
 

	In India, the company has been piloting Express Wi-Fi, a program under which local entrepreneurs are incentivised to setup Wi-Fi hotspots in various regions and sell data packs to users in the area.
 "We help them in terms of technical solutions, business model and marketing," Munish Seth, Country Manager Facebook Connectivity Solutions India, told ET. Facebook has already setup such hotspots in partnership with Internet Service Providers in parts of <keyword id="44522" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword> and Bangalore.
