As per early trends, congress is leading the only Lok Sabha seat. IndiaToday-AxisMyIndia exit polls 2019 predicts that Mayavati’s BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) is set to win from 16 seats in Uttar Pradesh. This number is the total seats the party will get in the state along with its allies SP and RLD. IN 2019 elections, BSP nominated its candidates from 38 seats. As per the seat sharing arrangement, SP contested from 37 seats and RLD faced the elections from 3 seats. Mayavati has chosen not to contest in 2019 Lok Sabha elections in order to focus more on the election campaign for the victory of her Mahagathbandhan. As per the Chanakya-News24 Exit Poll, the BSP- SP and RLD coalition might win 13 out of 80 seats with over 65 seats predicted for the BJP from the state and just 2 seats predicted for the Congress party. Uttar Pradesh state has the largest number of parliamentary seats in the country numbering 80 in total. In 2014 elections for the Lok Sabha, BSP could not get a single seat in UP. In 2009 elections, BSP got 20 seats from UP leaving BJP with just 10 seats. In 2004 and 1999 Lok Sabha elections, the results gave the party 19 seats and 14 seats respectively. Talking of the vote share in 2014 elections, BSP had got 19.6 % votes in the state while the BJP had got 42.3 % votes. Some of the key candidates like Haji Fazulrahman contested for Saharanpur seat, Girish Chandra was nominated by the party from Nagina (SC) and Amar Chandra Jauhar faced the elections from Shahjahanpur (SC). While nominating their candidates as per the seat sharing agreement, BSP and SP gave two seats for RLD. These two parties have decided not to contest in the two constituencies of Amethi and Raebareli from where the Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are contesting.

NEW DELHI: A tweet by former BJP chief and party in charge of Delhi <keyword id="26680" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Nitin-gadkari">Nitin Gadkari</keyword> saying "Dilli chunav ke liye BJP taiyyar, Kejriwal ke mukable <keyword id="6354361" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kiran-Bedi">Kiran Bedi</keyword> hongi CM candidate (BJP ready for Delhi polls, Kiran Bedi will be CM candidate against Kejriwal)" caused a flutter in party circles on Tuesday, with leaders and spokespersons distancing themselves from the comment. 
 With <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections in full swing, and the Delhi assembly polls not too far away, Gadkari's tweet that Bedi would be the party's chief ministerial candidate could cause major trouble for the already faction-ridden state unit in Delhi. 
 
While Gadkari could not be contacted, some in BJP said his Twitter account had been hacked and there was some mischief behind the post. 
 The <keyword id="153361" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="delhi-bjp">Delhi BJP</keyword> unit has not been able to overcome its factional fights between groups owing allegiance to <keyword id="196226" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Harsh-Vardhan">Harsh Vardhan</keyword> and <keyword id="81821" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Vijay-Goel">Vijay Goel</keyword>. This even led to the party naming its Delhi Lok Sabha contestants at the last moment. 
 
Bedi, who is known to be close to BJP leaders, has not joined the party and proposing her name implies bringing an outsider for the post of Delhi CM. That could only lead to fresh infighting in the state unit.

 It seems that the BJP has been highly inspired by the announcement that the <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> (AAP) made in December 2014. At that time, the <keyword id="1727470" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal-led-party">Arvind Kejriwal-led party</keyword> had said that it would provide free water along with 50% reduction in electricity bill to every household if voted to power.

Now, the BJP doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned to win the Delhi Assembly elections. Even if they have to go AAP way it doesn’t matter, as everything is fair in this ‘war to retain power’.

<ul><li>As many as 22.43% of male prisoners reportedly returned to Tihar Ashram, the largest prison in India, said Hindustan Times. </li><li>However, the jail hasn’t seen any women who are repeat offenders. </li><li>There are 17,130 prisoners in <keyword id="56350" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tihar-jail">Tihar jail</keyword> as of August 1, 2019. Out of the total, 16,485 prisoners are male, and 645 prisoners are female.</li></ul>One in every five men prisoner serving punishment at India's largest and notorious jail, Tihar Ashram, returned in 2018, r<a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/delhi-news/1500-vs-none-no-woman-on-tihar-jail-s-repeat-offenders-list-in-the-last-2-years/story-D1LlfjpM4haKc9ZsFmrE6H.html">eported Hindustan Times. </a> Last year, as many as 1537 male prisoners returned to jail for committing different crimes, down from 1978 in 2017. And there was not a single woman prisoner who was convicted again. Prison officials believe that most of the prisoners come back because they aren't accepted in the society. Out of the total, 16,485 prisoners are male, and 645 prisoners are female. Problem of Overcrowding India's capital has about 16 jails with a sanctioned capacity of 10,026. However, the prisons are mostly overcrowded. <a href="http://tte.delhigovt.nic.in/wps/wcm/connect/lib_centraljail/Central+Jail/Home/Prisoner+Profile">According to government data,</a> prison population has increased by 2.23% during 2018 and 2017. In 2017, the prisons were running 154.27% above their sanctioned capacity.

BJP's candidate from Chandigarh, Kiran Kher is predicted to win the lone seat in the city as per the exit polls. India today Axis has predicted BJP's win. More than 2 polls predicted BJP's clear win while others are showing a close contest. The Union territory of Chandigarh has only one Lok Sabha constituency. The parliamentary seat is now being held by Kirron Kher, the BJP candidate who won the 2014 general elections from here. In these elections, Kirron Kher defeated Pawan Kumar Bansal of Congress with about a difference of 70,000 votes. The third place was claimed by AAP’s Gul Panag. The union territory went for polling during the last phase of elections in 2019 on April 19 and now awaits the results eagerly. Chandigarh presents a tough contesting scenario for the major political parties. The triangular contest in Chandigarh now sees the BJP and Congress candidates re-nominated following the 2014 elections. Hence the main contenders in the parliamentary elections 2019 are Kirron Kher (BJP), Pawan Kumar Bansal (Congress) and Harmohan Dhawan (AAP). The scene is a bit different as AAP has replaced Gul Panag with Harmohan Dhawan. Notably, he was a senior BJP leader who left the party and joined the AAP in November 2018. There is a strong possibility that Dhawan could cut a sizeable percentage of the Hindu votes as he had earlier supported Kirron Kher during the earlier Lok Sabha elections in the union territory of Chandigarh.
