World's largest beverage maker has decided to launch the new category of drinks in popular localised flavours like lemon, jeera and orange. India is flooded with more than 200 of these so-called B brands that are distributed in small geographic areas and are sold at almost half of the prices charged by the MNCs. Combined together, they own a consolidated share of over 12% of the Rs 22,000-crore packaged aerated drinks category, say industry insiders. Because you are working with people who are the best in the world so you want to impress them. Pushing Jake around was just the bonus. I like the physical stuff. It helped the character. And Jake was laying there, and two or three people were hired to throw stuff in his face. Rubble, blood. It was very uncomfortable for him, which obviously was very comfortable for me. Jake, did you mess with Dar a little? Throw some rocks in with you on the cart to make it heavier?Jake Gyllenhaal: No. I was just there for him. He obviously enjoys seeing me get beaten up. [Laughs.]The lifeblood of this movie is the unique relationship that forms between your characters John and Ahmed. Jake, over the years how did you figure out the best way to go about gaining a connection with your costar so a story like this works?Gyllenhaal: The nice thing about this movie, and what I think makes it interesting, is that there is no real bond between these two people. It's an arranged marriage. They are reluctantly connected all the way until the end. So it's not about making a bond. It's a promise that one makes to the other that he had to go back into danger to make good for him. And he doesn't do it for some sentimentality, or because he's a good guy. It's really basically that John cannot go forward with his life and fully be alive unless he goes back and fulfills a promise. But Dar and I have gotten along from the moment we met. Was that a bummer, honestly? With what you just said, would it have been good if you didn't like Dar?Gyllenhaal: It's a lot more fun to play that you don't like each other than actually not liking each other. Salim: And it also takes a lot of generosity by Jake to lead the other guy in and relax enough on a set to be able to play the way we play in this movie. It feels comfortable. You stop yourself from trying too hard. Dar, was there any friendly competition between you and Jake? Was there a scene that you were like, "I'm going to act the hell out of this scene and kill it?"Salim: You want to kill all the scenes. But it's never a competition. If you think like that, you're going to fail. Don't tell the other actors that, but it does not work like that. The more generous you are towards your colleagues it will come back to you and the camera will notice. When you try to do stuff like that, it's a waste of time, and often the director isn't going to use the footage. But I will say, before we began shooting, I was concerned I was going to fade away next to Jake because he's such an amazing actor. I didn't know. I finally just focused on what I needed to do and did my job and let the movie gods do the rest. <div type="image" title="jarhead" height="797" width="1200" msid="99593751" hostid="261" sizebytes="48274"></div>Jake, many will instantly think of "Jarhead" and the <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jake-gyllenhaals-jarhead/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prep work you did for that</a> when thinking of you doing a war movie. Did you do anything similar for this?Gyllenhaal: Since then, I've played ex-military and been trained by amazing technical advisers. I've handled live weapons off-set, so, yes, "Jarhead" was the first time that I had ever played someone in the service, but the foundation has been built over many years. So filming this, I used everything I've learned. And then with the technical advisers on this movie, Special-Ops sergeants, they were there with us every day and kind of updated for me that stuff I had learned in the past. Dar, you were born in Baghdad and fled to Denmark very early in your life. Do you see a family member in Ahmed? Or did memories of yourself as a child come back when you made this?Salim: I think one of the strongest attributes an actor can have is empathy, which can be painful in your daily life, but you can understand what they are going through. A guy like Ahmed, for me, represents my parents' generation. It's not easy to flee your country when you're in your 30s and 40s and leave everything behind. So for me, it was emotional, and I find some pride in playing a guy like him from that part of the world and making him relatable to the European and American audiences. Showing that, look, he's a guy like John.This reminds me of the scene where John reconnects with Ahmed later in the movie —One of my favorite scenes! And it's done basically with so few words. Salim: Yeah.Gyllenhaal: It's a great scene — the physical distance between the two. Salim: But you know, there's no doubt that the appreciation is there. Over the years, it's become a technique, and you kind of learn to craft a space where you can play when the camera is rolling. And you have to prepare yourself for those things and understand the very simple questions that we ask ourselves as actors all the time: "Where is he coming from?" "Where is he going?" But these stories stay with you, and they are a part of you, and it's the reason why you want to do them. So it works in both directions. There's a part of me that wanted to do it, so my heart is in it, so it's a part of me. And I do carry with me the experiences that I've had, and they don't ever really go away in a lot of ways. So the characters [and] experiences, they are with me always. I will say this, though: I don't think I've ever watched a movie that I've been in and it's made me cry. This movie did when I saw it, which I was very surprised by. What part made you cry?Gyllenhaal: It was the ending. The very end. I was also very emotional in the very first firefight of the movie, when everything goes sideways. Guy tells a story, particularly through action, he really tells an emotional story. I was surprised how much it would mean to me, that first firefight scene. It really got me.I can't really watch myself on screen, but the story here came through, and it just reminded me what we are as Americans and world citizens. Doing good is not without grudge or complications and a lot of complexity. New Delhi, Mar 19 () Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) on Thursday said it has launched three programmes for its employees -- maternity support, Back to Work, and Women's Network. Christina Ruggiero, chief executive officer of HCCB, said that each of the initiatives is aimed at making everyone at the workplace feel respected and included. "The maternity programme is aimed at providing all necessary support including medical advice and counselling to both men and women employees," the company said in a statement. It said the programme provides for planned interventions by experts, managing pre- and post-delivery changes and back-to-work preparation, allowing them to seamlessly join the work back. It added that the 'Back to Work Programme' is designed to help women on a career break make a gradual transition back into the corporate workspace. The company, it said, also plans to provide a six-month internship to these women to help them acquire necessary skill sets and regain their confidence before they are inducted into the workforce. The Women's Network programme is created as a platform for all working women to come together and help each other in all matters, both personal as well as professional, it added. Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages launches initiatives for employees

Mumbai, Jan 20 () Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages on Monday appointed Melvin Tan as its new chief financial officer, who will also be part of its senior leadership team reporting to chief executive Christina Ruggiero.
 Tan, a graduate from the University of Sheffield in England, with an honours degree in accounting and financial management, joined the Coca-Cola system in 2010 after spending a decade with KPMG and Honeywell.
 He was the financial controller of Coca-Cola's bottling investment group in Singapore and Malaysia wherein he was instrumental in the scaling up and growth of greenfield operation in Malaysia, implementation of various strategic restructuring initiatives and establishment of robust financial support and governance system to support the growth agenda of the business. 
 Announcing the appointment, Ruggiero said, Tan brings in the best practices of the global Coca-Cola system, along with his strong background in accounting and financial management.
 As one of largest FMCG companies in the country, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages manufactures/bottles and sells, some of the leading beverages like Minute Maid, Maaza, SmartWater, Kinley, Thums Up, Sprite, Coca-Cola, Limca, Fanta and Georgia, among others.
 It controls a network of 3,900 distributors, 2,50,000 farmers, 7,000 suppliers and over 2.5 million retail outlets across 493 districts in 25 states. Its 18 factories manufacture 60 products in nine different categories. BEN ANS

Hindustan Coca-Cola appoints Melvin Tan as CFO

New Delhi, Feb 3 () US fast food chain McDonald's has selected MMG Group chairman Sanjeev Agrawal as its new partner to operate its outlets in north and east India, the company said.
 The development comes almost nine months after McDonald's bought estranged partner Vikram Bakshi's 50 per cent stake in Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd (CPRL), a joint venture, which has the licence to run its restaurants in north and east India.
 A McDonald's spokesperson said Agarwal is the new partner of the company for the two markets.
 "Agrawal has a strong understanding and passion for the McDonald's brand, insights into the local market, and a proven track record of driving quality and innovation in the food and beverage and hospitality industries," said McDonald's Asia Director Corporate Relations Barry Sum.
 Agrawal (55) is the group Chairman of MMG Group, which has interests in bottling and marketing of soft drinks, oil and gas, hospitality, among others.
 MMG Group also controls Moon Beverages, which is among the key bottlers for American beverage maker Coca-Cola in north India from 1994 and is manufacturing and distribution of Coca Cola, Limca, Sprit, Maaza, Thums UP, Fanta, Minute Maid, Coke Zero &amp; Kinley.
 Sum added that Agrawal is the right strategic partner for McDonald's to grow its brand presence in north and east India.
 McDonald's, however, has not share the terms and condition of the agreement. 
 Agarwal could not be contacted till filing of the story.
 The company also refrained to comment on the ongoing matter between McDonald's and its former JV partner Vikram Bakshi before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), where state-run HUDCO has opposed sale/transfer of share by Bakshi to the fast food chain after settlement.
 "McDonald's remains a shareholder of CPRL, and continues to hold the shares that were acquired from Vikram Bakshi and his holding company in CPRL," said Sum, adding that Robert Hunghanfoo continues to head CPRL.
 In May last year, McDonald's had announced an out-of-court settlement agreeing to buy Bakshi's stake in their joint venture.
 The details of the pact, including financial terms, were not disclosed.
 They has approached the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, to withdraw the suits, filed against each other, however, it was opposed by the state run Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
 HUDCO, which is claiming dues of Rs 194.98 crore from Bakshi and his related entities, in its intervention plea filed before the NCLAT, informed that notices regarding orders of the debt recovery tribunal (DRT) was already served to both the partner.
 HUDCO had contended that the said settlement is against the interim order passed by the DRT in a case pending against Vikram Bakshi.
 In September 2019, NCLAT had said it would review the settlement between fast food major McDonald's and its Indian partner Vikram Bakshi over the sale of his shares in Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd (CPRL).

McDonald's selects Sanjeev Agrawal as new partner for north, east India markets

It’s good news for those who were afraid of what goods and services tax (<keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword>) holds in terms of prices for groceries, household and personal care products. The prices will not be changed for at least six to eight weeks after GST is implemented on July 1st, since companies dealing in these areas aren't too sure about the affect that these companies will have on their cost of operations. While several household products like cookies, toothpastes, soaps and hair oils will be taxed lower at 18% after GST as compared to the present charge of about 22% in the current indirect tax structure of excise duty and value-added tax. However, other household detergents like shampoos and skincare products will be charged higher GST of 28%. "While our intent is to pass on the benefits of lower GST in the relevant categories where rates are coming down to consumers as soon as it is feasible, there are still some open issues where we need clarity such as how area-based exemptions will be handled, that will impact pricing decisions," <keyword id="6369697" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Godrej">Godrej</keyword> Consumer MD Vivek Gambhir told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/cons-products/durables/good-news-your-grocery-expenses-wont-rise-after-gst-rollout/articleshow/59360111.cms">ET</a>. In case of items for which rates are going to increase after GST, there are no price changes planned. "There are hardly any changes in either price or grammage for the new stock that will hit the market from next week onwards," said an HUL distributor requesting anonymity. The only option would be to reduce or increase weight, but it won't be based on just GST on final products," said Mayank Shah, group product manager at Parle Products. "We need one-two months to see if the new tax has any impact on the cost of products and what will be the credit on input to offset them." Also, there would be no changes in the prices of milk, another household item that constitutes country's largest consumer segment - milk and curd. "We will drop prices of milk powder and baby food by close to 5%," said RS Sodhi, managing director of <keyword id="6531735" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gujarat-Cooperative-Milk-Marketing-Federation">Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation</keyword> (GCMMF), owner of <keyword id="26280" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="amul">Amul</keyword>. "But the new pricing will reach consumers only after a week or 10 days once the existing inventory gets exhausted." On Tuesday, Coca-Cola India had announced that it will increase prices of its aerated beverages and reduce the prices of packaged drinking water brand Kinley. It added that since aerated beverages will be attracting the maximum GST rate of 40%, they will be the worst hit segment post GST.

On July 4, SiriusXM announced that it fired Anthony Cumia, one half of the of "The Opie &amp; Anthony Show," after Cumia fired off <a href="http://investor.siriusxm.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=857830">what the company called</a>, "racially-charged and hate-filled remarks on social media."
The previous day, Cumia was taking pictures in Times Square and was assaulted by an African-American woman who didn't want her picture taken, <a href="http://www.thewrap.com/opie-and-anthony-host-lashes-out-with-racist-tweets-after-alleged-times-square-assault/">according to a report by TheWrap</a>.
Cumia then fired off a series of tweets, which have since been deleted, and was fired the following day.
The stock market was closed over the long weekend, but shares of Sirius XM have fallen 2.6% over the first two days of this week.

Sirius XM shares might suffer a small PR hit in the near-term following Cumia's dismissal, as TMZ noted the pair have <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2014/07/04/opie-and-anthony-cumia-host-fired-racial-tweets/">been broadcasting together 1995</a>.
But Sirius XM, which owns more than $2 billion worth of FCC licenses <a href="http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/908937/000090893714000009/siri-20140331x10q.htm">according to its latest 10-Q</a>, is part of a massive Liberty Media structure.
