Jaguar's campaign leading up to the Super Bowl has focused on promoting the brand as a sophisticated British villain invading the U.S. luxury vehicle market to challenge mainstays like Porsche and Mercedes-Benz.
The new teaser shows Kingsley, who has played bad guys like Sweeney Todd and Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, standing in a shadowy, luxury command center. Looking out on a meeting at an airport runway, a sharply dressed Kingsley notices "All the usual suspects."
"Oh, and one new one," he adds as a white Jaguar F-Type coupe zooms across the runway.

In addition to the teaser video, Jaguar created a microsite at <a href="http://www.jaguarusa.com/british-villains.html">BritishVillains.com</a> where visitors can watch the teaser, learn more about the F-Type, and customize a vehicle of their own. The site prominently features a Kingsley headshot above the tagline, "It's Good To Be Bad."
Jaguar <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jaguar-announces-first-super-bowl-ad-2013-11">announced in November</a> make its first Super Bowl appearance with a spot from "The King's Speech" director Tom Hooper, with the brand hoping to build momentum on the 36% year-to-date sales increase it enjoyed during the first three quarters of 2013.
At the time, it released <a href="http://bcove.me/rac7o64a">a 30-second TV commercial</a> that featured a blurred face, the Union Jack, and a football, and asked viewers if they'd noticed that all the best villains are British. 
The campaign is being run by Jaguar's creative agency, Spark 44, and its media agency, Mindshare. It has also included a digital promotion aspect <a href="http://www.adweek.com/news/advertising-branding/jaguar-taps-gawker-ad-division-help-creating-evil-super-bowl-ad-154749">through a partnership between Jaguar and Gawker Media's content studio</a>. Gawker created a separate blog, called <a href="http://goodtobebad.kinja.com/">Good To Be Bad</a>, that features sponsored content from Jaguar, original work from Gawker's content studio, and posts shared from Gawker editorial blogs like Gizmodo and Lifehacker.
The posts focus on general villainy, with titles like "A Guide to World Domination in 2014" and "Four Devious Female Archetypes in Film (And How To Act Like Them)."
The Super Bowl will be played Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium. With <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/fox-sells-out-of-super-bowl-ad-slots-2013-12">an average price of $4 million</a> for a 30-second commercial, ads at this year's game are the most expensive in Super Bowl history.

The six-episode first season came to an end on Wednesday, with a finale comprised of plot resolutions, potential new beginnings, and a setup for Fury's return in the <a href="https://www.insider.com/captain-marvel-2-details-information-what-we-know-brie-larson">upcoming "Captain Marvel" sequel, "The Marvels."</a>Hours after the release of the finale, director and executive producer Ali Selim spoke to <a href="https://www.insider.com/">Insider</a> about Emilia Clarke leaning into the physicality of G'iah and Gravik's (Kingsley Ben-Adir) big fight, Olivia Colman subverting expectations as Sonya Falsworth, and how long that Skrull has been masquerading as Rhodey (Don Cheadle).<div type="image" title="Emilia Clarke as G'iah on &quot;Secret Invasion.&quot;" height="1299" width="1733" msid="102172339" hostid="261" sizebytes="211450"></div>How are you feeling now that the whole show is finally out and you can talk about it entirely freely?Oh, it's a really good question, but my feeling doesn't much change before or after. I feel like my work is done and I don't ever need to talk about it because it's all there on the screen, but I understand your question has to do more with this interview than with my friends across the street.So, I guess the feeling is freeing and we can talk about everything now and I don't have to hide behind the Fifth Amendment.For you, coming from a background of directing various different kinds of projects, what were the biggest challenges or adjustments that you made going into a Marvel project?I think one has to familiarize themselves with the MCU and be very knowledgeable about what came from where and who is connected to who.But once I've done that, I feel like it's simply telling a story in the best way I can. And I don't change much because I think my job is to tell the story and not worry about external forces that might inform the story or not inform the story.So in a way, it's very simple. You familiarize yourself, you familiarize yourself with the scripts and the characters, and then you simply tell the story. So, I think my job was particularly interesting and challenging in the MCU in that really you have to shepherd the brand, which is an incredibly powerful and beloved brand. You have to shepherd it, you have to honor it, and yet you have to keep the audience surprised.That's what I can bring to it, is not to be so anchored in the MCU, but to sort of move it forward.<div type="image" title="Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik on &quot;Secret Invasion.&quot;" height="2485" width="3314" msid="102172341" hostid="261" sizebytes="132566"></div>What kind of knowledge or expertise did Samuel L. Jackson bring to this? Because this is a character that he's played for over a decade now, and he's an executive producer as well. So was there anything in particular that he contributed to this?He contributes a tremendous amount. Not only does he know so much about acting and has such great experience acting with some of the great actors and some of the great directors, but he also is a great collaborator. And he comes in with a sense of, "I know what's going on and let's explore what's going on."And he also, I think, was particularly interested in exploring how the Nick Fury in the story related to his own life, his own sense of other, his own sense of aging, and his own sense of constantly redefining himself. And that's kind of what Nick was doing.So in some ways, Sam is a great collaborator and in some ways, Sam is Nick Fury, and we just have to rely on him.Let's get into the specifics of the finale. It's strongly suggested that a Skrull has been posing as Rhodey since "Captain America: Civil War." That's what fans have interpreted from that one scene. So can you definitively clear that up and share how long a Skrull has been posing as Rhodey?I think that it's gonna be a lot of fun for fans to unpack as they revisit all the Rhodey moments since the "Captain America" moment when he was in the hospital, and to see how they feel about it.I don't know if I wanna say it's definitive or not definitive, but I think Rhodey has been a Skrull a lot longer than we suspected.But do you personally have the answer to that question and you're guarding it?Oh, interesting. No. I think that's a question for the MCU at large, probably for Kevin Feige himself.What was presented to me was a lot of fun, and I think we made a lot of fun out of it. But for those definitive answers, I defer to Kevin Feige or I defer to the fans.<div type="image" title="Don Cheadle as James &quot;Rhodey&quot; Rhodes on &quot;Secret Invasion.&quot;" height="3032" width="4042" msid="102172343" hostid="261" sizebytes="774210"></div>In the finale, there's a fight scene between G'iah and Gravik, a Super Skrull face-off. So what was it like to film that sequence? I have to imagine there's a lot of CGI and effects involved in that.The most fun for me is that, actors like Emilia Clarke, who is amazing at what she does, I can witness what she does and I'm completely mystified by what she does.I think scenes like this are a little bit of a reprieve for her after putting so much of herself out on the screen in the quiet little scenes. Now she gets to just do fun shit. She gets to hang from ropes and swing through the air and throw punches at people.There's a lot of detail that goes into those scenes. They're storyboarded for months on end. We follow the storyboards in great detail, but then there's just a lot of fun because it's a release moment for actors.<div type="image" title="Emilia Clarke as G'iah on &quot;Secret Invasion.&quot;" height="1193" width="1590" msid="102172345" hostid="261" sizebytes="41626"></div>And you're right, a sequence like that comes together with hundreds of hours of stunt people and second unit people, and visual effects people. It couldn't happen without any of them. And so it's a lot to coordinate on my end to keep all those departments moving in the same direction.But ultimately your question is, what was it like to shoot that sequence? And honestly, it's fun. By the time you come to shooting, as I said, it's storyboarded and the stunts have been rehearsed to the point that they're precise and you really just get the precision of it, you get the details of it, but you have a lot of fun.And then with G'iah killing Gravik, I think it positions her to be one of the most, if not the most powerful, person in the MCU right now. I mean, she has all these powers at her disposal. So beyond this show, how are we gonna see the ripple effects of her new position of power as a Skrull leader and this agreement that she's made with Olivia Colman's character, Sonya?I promise you, I am not deflecting your question, but once again, I think what happens outside the confines of the walls of these six episodes is really a question for Marvel. I don't know where it's gonna go.It would be exciting if it went somewhere because those are two incredible actors and two incredibly strong, interesting women to follow.At the same time, I do think that that pact they made, it could be a launching point for their characters and I think it's also a great resolution for this story. So I'm satisfied with it as an ending. And if it continues on in some way, I can't imagine anything better.I feel like Olivia Colman just seemed like she was having a blast playing this kind of character, or at least I enjoyed it as a viewer. So what do you think that she brought to this role that really made her stand out for people?I know Olivia a little bit. We've stayed in touch and I can tell you that she has fun no matter what she's doing. She just loves life and seems to have fun across the board.She brought a very surprising element to this series because people think of her as a thespian. People think of her as a serious Oscar winner, and here she is torturing Skrulls and cutting their fingers off, and having a blast doing it.<div type="image" title="Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth on &quot;Secret Invasion.&quot;" height="3032" width="4042" msid="102172348" hostid="261" sizebytes="1030888"></div>She brought some sense of subversion, almost. She just tweaked the MCU, where if we had had an actress who was more well versed in things like that, badassery and torture-y and stuff like that, I don't think it would've been as surprising or subversive.Sam Jackson and Emilia Clarke were dying to work with her. So it brought an energy that you don't get when it's just another scene.After watching the finale, some people have been wondering whether or not it was necessary to kill off Maria Hill at the start of the show. From your perspective, how did her death impact Fury's actions across the show and just the progression of the series in a way that really justified such a shocking moment like that?That's a really good way to phrase the question because I do think it motivates Fury in a deeply personal way that wouldn't have thrust the story forward had it been more abstract or more distanced from him. Making it personal was really a valuable way to dive into this story.Why she's killed is another question for the MCU. I just did the best I could making it feel truthful and emotional, and I am grateful that I have not yet received death threats for killing off Maria Hill.Now this next question, I know you may have to deflect, but just answer it as best as you can, because I know that this show is a bridge and a precursor to the next "Captain Marvel" movie, especially with that last scene showing Fury going off-world yet again. So, what can you share about how the show sets up that movie? Especially because the villain of that movie is a Kree revolutionary.I'm not gonna deflect, I'm gonna say I can't shine any light on it.My participation in that was to make sure that Nick Fury goes up at the end of this series, so I made sure that he went up. And where they capture him in the next, it's entirely up to them.I really have to focus on what I'm doing in these six episodes, so I'm curious, but I'm actually a little more curious as an audience member than as a filmmaker.<div type="image" title="Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury on &quot;Secret Invasion.&quot;" height="1188" width="1584" msid="102172351" hostid="261" sizebytes="18966"></div>I think this is the first Marvel/Disney+ show that doesn't have a single post-credit scene at all. I know you're the director, but what can you share about that? Was that an intentional move? Was there ever anything considered for a tag scene?That's a good question. I think everything that you see on the screen is intentional.A decision has been made about every coffee mug and every undergarment and everything. Decisions are made all along the way. I don't have an answer. I think Marvel uses those things expertly to launch something new or to conclude something.I know that this series is a bridge, like you said, but I don't know what it's launching. And as long as the story feels complete, I feel like I did my job. If you wanna write a post-credit sequence, maybe we'll reconsider.That's above my pay grade. I'll leave that to the experts. From what other Marvel directors and actors have said, sometimes things in the scripts change at the last minute or the day of filming. What was your experience like for "Secret Invasion?" How closely did it follow all the scripts and how much room was there for improvisation or adjustments?I don't wanna play semantic games, but I think of it as an evolution. As you hunt down story, everything is constantly evolving. And it's a fascinating process.I guess there are moments of improv, like between Sam and Don, between Sam and Ben. There are really rich moments of improv. There are actors who rely more on the script. And I think as we are editing, we're still finding the story. We were finding the story on episode six up until episode one had already aired.That's part of the beauty of it, is that Marvel just keeps hunting it down and using the resources they have to come up with the best story possible, and that quest never ends. Do you remember any of those improv moments that you mentioned between Sam and Don or Ben? Did any of those make the cut from what you remember?I think it depends on how we're using the word improv.There's a scene on the train where Nick Fury is sitting with Talos and he talks about his past, his experience with his mother riding the train, and the food they brought. And it's not really improv, but Sam wrote that, and Sam wrote it in a way that was deeply personal to him.Several days before, he recounted it and it ended up on the page so that Ben would understand it and wasn't responding to last-minute improv. So that's in there.<div type="image" title="Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Samuel L. And to that end, he's always singing. And a lot of times other actors would have to leave the room when he was singing just to let him do his process, but Sam would sing with him and we would end up shooting both sides of the song for the duet.We tried to put it in, but with those two guys running around killing people, it didn't make sense that they would take a pause and sing an old Motown hit. [Laughs.] From a directing standpoint, do you have a favorite episode or even a scene that you're most proud of in terms of how it came together?I'm proud of the whole damn thing, the six hours. I'm proud that I've survived. I'm proud that people are enjoying it. I love the scale and scope of it, the fact that I got to work on cars flipping over and explosions.But ultimately for me, it boils down to the emotional truth that's passing between two characters, the electricity passing between two characters. And so Don and Sam in the bar when Rhodey fires Fury, I love that. Olivia Colman and Sam Jackson in the library in episode one. Emilia Clarke and Sam Jackson in episode five talking about Talos' death and where to bury him, I just love those moments.And like I said, then the other stuff becomes more fun, like a relaxing moment to blow shit up and cut people's fingers off. Marvel fans, I'm sure you know this, they love dissecting these projects and theorizing. Sometimes they're accurate, sometimes theories completely miss the mark. So was there a theory about "Secret Invasion" that made you laugh the hardest, impressed you, or just surprised you by how accurate or how off-base it was?Oh, it's a good question. We test the episodes with a diehard insider audience and you hear a lot of interesting comments that come out of those meetings. But then when it's released, I don't spend a lot of time reading what the fans are saying. I know there's a valuable element to that, but it doesn't really help me as a storyteller.That said, I really got a kick out of somebody online, who made their own version of the trailer for "Secret Invasion," and they had Julia Louis-Dreyfus in it. And I thought, well, that's fun misdirect. And I'm sure there are still people, some friends of mine, who are waiting for her to show up in episode six, which I'll tell you she's not gonna do.Maybe that could have been the end credits scene, just her popping up.Maybe it is the end credits scene. I don't know. Kingsley Ben-Adir is obviously the main villain, but also he is <a href="https://www.insider.com/barbie-movie-cast-who-they-play-margot-robbie-ryan-gosling-2023-4">playing a Ken in the "Barbie" movie</a>. Did you see "Barbie" and his performance? It's so jarring seeing him on "Secret Invasion" one week and then seeing him in "Barbie," just hamming it up.He's a great shape-shifting — no pun intended or pun intended — actor who I think has done a lot of great work. I loved him in "The OA," I loved him in "The Comey Rule" playing Obama. He's really, really brilliant. I think he's got a brilliant career ahead of him.He did an incredibly nuanced job playing Gravik. I am excited to see "Barbie," but I devoted my weekend to "Oppenheimer," because as you can tell, that's a little more my mindset, but I'll be at "Barbie" very soon.This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity. It's the mid-2000s, and for the past year, addiction has overtaken his life.Over the span of 10 minutes, seven people will call the police to complain about Peck's driving. A police car begins to close in on Peck, who thinks of the consequences of having his mugshot splashed across covers of tabloid magazines. He continues speeding his way out of Beverly Hills and escapes law enforcement. This is not the version of Peck to which fans are accustomed. Not the teen actor known for his impeccable comedic timing as one half of Nickelodeon's "<a href="https://www.insider.com/drake-and-josh-cast-then-and-now-2020-4">Drake &amp; Josh</a>." Not the adult husband and father who shares goofy videos on <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@joshpeck">TikTok</a> and sarcastic musings on <a href="https://twitter.com/ItsJoshPeck">Twitter</a>.For four years, Peck said, he struggled with addictions that went largely unnoticed. "I don't think a lot of people know that about me," Peck told Insider. "And I'm glad there weren't camera phones in the early aughts."Now 35, Peck is opening up in a new memoir, "<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Happy-People-Annoying-Josh-Peck/dp/0063073617/ref=sr_1_1?crid=Z39U07EE7YC9&amp;keywords=happy+people+are+annoying+josh+peck&amp;qid=1639694213&amp;s=books&amp;sprefix=happy+people+%2Cstripbooks%2C68&amp;sr=1-1" rel="noopener">Happy People Are Annoying</a>," released on March 15. He's aware that his history of drug use could surprise people who still associate him with his family-friendly sitcom persona."It's pretty millennial of me to think I'm ready to talk about my entire life holistically at 35," he said. "But part of it was that I wanted to give a perspective from the halfway point."I've sort of lived this public life, but there was so much that I kept back and never shared with my audience because I just thought that that was the way things are done," he said. "I felt like it would behoove me, and I could hopefully be of more service to others, by being honest about the nuance and the things in which I went through, especially during those four years."Peck didn't come from a traditional family, nor was he born into Hollywood royalty. His parents were business acquaintances who had an affair, with his mom, Barbara Peck, becoming pregnant at the age of 42. Peck's biological father, then 62, already had a wife and three kids. He chose to not be involved in Peck's life. Peck likened his "unresolved issues" with his dad, whose name he didn't disclose, to "bad fuel" for the metaphorical car of his life. (His father died in 2013, when Peck was 26 years old. The two never met.)"I was going to prove to everyone, including him, how little I needed anyone or anything," Peck said. He credits her for doing the best she could under the circumstances, but it was hard "having this single mom, being an only child, being overweight, being the weird musical-theater kid in an age where the only social currency was being good at sports or having enough money for the newest video-game system."Peck said his best friends were fictional characters: Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura, Will Smith in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," and Adam Sandler in "Billy Madison." As a "chubby" kid, "I really looked up to the great, heavier-set actors, be it John Candy or Chris Farley," Peck said. "It just felt so powerful to have someone to be represented in that way."All the while, he was "absorbing the rhythms of sitcoms through osmosis," he said. "Eventually, when it became my turn, I might not have known exactly what made something funny, but I knew what funny sounded like."At 12, Peck enrolled at New York's Professional Performing Arts School, where he promptly became aware that he could fix his family's financial situation by earning money as an actor.He saw kids his own age "making grown-up money, doing this thing that I love," he said. "Suddenly I wasn't the oddity at a normal school, where there were only a few kids who focused on performing arts and mostly just within the confines of the school play."Peck's big break came when he landed a spot on Nickelodeon's "The Amanda Show," a sketch-comedy show starring Amanda Bynes that ran from 1999 to 2002. The "wildly talented" Bynes immediately made an impression on him."I tried to be this sort of quasi-apprentice to Amanda and watch her ability and try to dissect what it was that made her so great," Peck recalled. "Drake &amp; Josh" ran for four seasons between 2004 and 2007, spawning two <keyword id="11898468" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tv" source="Orion">TV</keyword> movies.While "Drake &amp; Josh" is arguably Peck's most notable work to date, starring on a hit sitcom didn't feel monumental to him at the time — especially in a period that predated social media. "I was performing, doing the kind of comedy on the network that was like my holy grail growing up," he said. "That was surprising to me, that there were more than a few people who would say things like, 'You were funnier when you were fat' or 'Stop trying so hard,'" Peck said. "A lot of people go through awkward teenage years, and then when they're through it, they burn their yearbooks and swear their family to secrecy," he continued. "But my awkward teenage years are in reruns.It's been more than a decade since "Drake &amp; Josh" ended, but on any given day, Peck will get recognized by a 29-year-old who says the show "was their childhood." Fans will repeat popular catchphrases or ask for hugs, in reference to the show's popular line, "hug me, brotha." Even some of today's teens have told him they watch it. But it's frustrating for Peck that fans can't separate the TV brothers from their real lives as actors. When Peck married Paige O'Brien in June 2017, he didn't invite Bell to the wedding. Bell <a href="https://www.vulture.com/2017/06/the-drake-bell-josh-peck-feud-just-keeps-getting-pettier.html">revealed</a> his displeasure over Twitter, in posts that were later deleted, sending fans into an uproar. An anonymous "insider" <a href="https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/josh-peck-really-hurt-by-drake-bells-wedding-tweets-w488922/">told Us Weekly</a> that Peck "was really hurt" by Bell's tweets. In his view, they were actors who did a job for several years, then went their separate ways, with some contact here and there. The media attention was hard on his wife, "a private person" who "deserved to enjoy the afterglow of her wedding and not have to deal with trolls.""People assumed that we were still sharing a bedroom in the attic, a decade later," Peck said. Knowing how much people loved his and Bell's TV dynamic, "I would've been happy to have died with that secret that we weren't the closest," Peck said. "Unfortunately, the world had different plans."The pair continued to occasionally see each other after the wedding. Bell appeared in a few videos on Peck's YouTube channel, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9gWU9d53Vg">the last of which</a> was posted in March 2019. In August 2020, Bell was <a href="https://people.com/tv/drake-bell-accused-abuse-ex-girlfriend-denies-claims/">accused</a> of physical and verbal abuse by an ex-girlfriend, which he denied. The following year, he was <a href="https://www.insider.com/drake-bell-sentenced-to-2-years-of-probation-child-endangerment-2021-7">sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to child endangerment</a>. The charges stemmed from a <a href="https://www.insider.com/drake-bell-nickelodeon-star-charged-endangering-children-2021-6">2017 incident relating to a then-15-year-old girl</a> who attended one of Bell's concerts in Cleveland. The girl said Bell began "grooming" her when she was 12 and sent her sexually explicit messages starting when she was 15. Asked about the last time he's spoken to Bell, Peck said, "Years ago. Many years ago."As he embarked on his adult career, Peck said he encountered "a natural typecast" that comes from starring on a kid's network like Nickelodeon. "For a long time, if I walked into an audition room and saw Miles there, I would sort of turn around and go, 'Have a great time, Miles. You're gonna kill it,'" Peck said, laughing.Peck particularly wanted the role of Stanley Yelnats in "Holes," the 2003 film adaptation of Louis Sachar's popular novel of the same name, about an unlucky boy who discovers a treasure chest while at a juvenile detention camp. It ultimately went to Shia LaBeouf."I wanted it so bad because I love the books," said Peck, who was 14 or 15 at the time of the audition. "But I'm the biggest fan of Shia LaBeouf as an actor. I just think he's just operating on another level. So I think they picked the right guy."He did land a role as a drug dealer in the 2008 <keyword id="11897475" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie" source="Orion">movie</keyword> "The Wackness," starring Ben Kingsley. At the time, he'd entered Hollywood's party scene and was desperate to let loose. As he bounced around clubs and house parties, he became acquainted with a girl who he refers to as Jessica in his memoir. One night, the pair found themselves in possession of "a felony's worth of drugs," he recalls in his book. Eager to partake and appear cool in front of his crush, he got high for the first time.Despite his physical transformation, Peck still struggled with a poor self-image, he said. Drugs became an alternative to his previous reliance on food. Under the influence between 2004 and 2008, he said, he felt weightless, comforted, and free from the issues that had burdened him for years.While Peck stayed sober for the duration of the "Wackness" shoot, he said, his substance abuse was catching up with him. He was underweight, with dark circles around his eyes. His personal relationships were suffering, and he was running out of money, too."There were too many close calls, too many rides across the lawn of the Beverly Hills Hotel, too many trips to the ER where I convinced them it was anxiety making my heart do that," Peck wrote in his book. On February 15, 2008, Peck attended the first of what would become many Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. He's been sober ever since. Peck's IMDb page gives the impression of an actor who's been steadily earning an income since 2000, when he had his first professional role in the Chevy Chase comedy "Snow Day." He's appeared in big-budget action movies ("Red Dawn," in which he played Chris Hemsworth's brother) and starred in network sitcoms ("Grandfathered," in which he played John Stamos' son). He's had small roles on big shows like "The Big Bang Theory" and "The Mindy Project," and even costarred with Al Pacino (in 2015's "Danny Collins").But major financial success was hard to come by. At some points, Peck said he was clearing only $40,000 a year after percentages were taken out."With kids' television at the time, you're making a nice living, but it's reflective of maybe a dentist starting out," Peck said. "So while you're doing it, it's great. But when you're done, you certainly only have a year or two of runway to find your next job."No one wants to talk about money, but I felt like I had to make clear where I was at the end of doing 'Drake &amp; Josh.' I think a lot of people's misconception is that once you do a show like that, you're set for life."To earn money outside of acting jobs, Peck joined the now-defunct social-media app Vine, which limited users to six-second videos. When Vine shut down in early 2017, he pivoted to longer-form videos on YouTube, where he invited his famous friends to join him for videos and participated in food-related trends. Being a YouTuber required a lot more work than being a Viner, and Peck was aware that people assumed he was a washed-up actor turned influencer."I was having so much success on social media, which is not to be taken lightly," he said. And he's now appearing on Hulu's "<a href="https://www.insider.com/how-i-met-your-father-season-1-dad-identity-showrunners-interview-2022-1">How I Met Your Father,</a>" in which he plays a school vice principal who's the love interest of the star, <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-i-met-your-father-francia-raisa-hilary-duff-interview-2022-1">Hilary Duff</a>. (A second season has already been confirmed, but Peck can't reveal whether he'll show up again.)Through it all, he's kept up with social media, pivoting from YouTube to TikTok, <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@joshpeck?lang=en">where he has 7.5 million followers</a>."Emotionally, I had to let go of this old idea that I would only be OK if I was successful as an actor because my life was good regardless of how I was doing professionally," he said. "And of course, once I did finally face that was when I had this really great busy year of work."It's just one of those wonderful universe moments, doing for me what I couldn't do for myself."Over the years, Peck has come to terms with his father's absence. It's not something that's just received once you've achieved a certain level of existence — it's really like a daily practice, and it comes and goes. But I think it's about not being attached to either one, the really happy moments or the challenging moments. Knowing that the universe demands balance — they're both coming, whether we like it or not."

Josh Peck hid drug abuse, insecurities, and trauma behind his funny-guy image. Now, he's coming clean.

We were particularly impressed with this quote by "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Cabin-Woods-Blu-ray-UltraViolet-Digital/dp/B008G33O0G">Cabin In The Woods</a>" director Drew Goddard, who described his 2008 meeting with the legend <a href="http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/04/12/the-cabin-in-the-woods-joss-whedon">in Entertainment Weekly</a>:
"That was definitely one of those surreal experiences.
"It was wonderful. I mean, Tom Cruise - at least in my experience with him - I've never met a more enthusiastic, creative, and supportive person.
"He has that energy and to feel that energy directed towards you about you, it's like a drug. It's wonderful.
"He was so excited about the script and so complimentary and really just pointed out scenes in the movie that he felt we should bring out more. And he was totally right."
It sounds amazing, right? After seeing this quote (which also appears in <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Joss-Whedon-Biography-Amy-Pascale/dp/1613741049">the new Joss Whedon biography</a> we <a href="http://businessinsider.com/category/joss-whedon">have been covering obsessively</a>), we were inspired to look up more descriptions of what it's like to be in the same room as Cruise.
"He has the best reputation in the industry, by far," s<a href="http://www.quora.com/Actors-and-Actresses/Which-Hollywood-stars-have-a-reputation-for-being-good-to-work-with">creenwriter Ken Miyamoto wrote of Cruise</a> on Quora. "He works his ass off and has this utter positive energy that he brings to the development phase, the set, and beyond. He's the hardest working actor in the industry (and most that have worked with him have said so) and he's known as one of the nicest actors to work with."

"He's so sweet and generous," said the actress. "And such a pro at this stuff. He was so emboldening and encouraging. I wanted to do my own stunts because he does his own stunts."
"<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1483013/" target="_blank">Oblivion</a>" screenwriter Karl Gajdusek also spoke positively of working with Cruise.
"He's a very good collaborator," Gajdusek told <a href="http://screenwritingu.com/blog/oblivion-screenwriter-karl-gajdusek-working-tom-cruise" target="_blank">ScreenwritingU</a> of his experience working out of Cruise's house for about three weeks during one phase of the writing process. "The reason he wants to work with you is that you're spending more hours a day on this thing than he is, and if you don't know it - in some ways better than him - and can resist ideas when they don't seem right for the film, then you're useless, you're just a stenographer. ... That's not to say that he didn't win arguments. He usually wins the argument."
Cruise's former publicist, Pat Kingsley - who worked with the actor from 1992 until he <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/pat-kingsley-finally-talks-tom-664535" target="_blank">fired her in 2004</a> - told <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/pat-kingsley-finally-talks-tom-664535" target="_blank">The Hollywood Reporter</a> last year that "Tom Cruise was a prince."
During their working relationship, "We talked constantly," Kingsley says. "He was an insomniac. I liked the fact that he was so much fun. And he was so thoughtful. He remembered birthdays, my daughter's birthday. He came to her wedding; she was registered somewhere for the china, and he bought out everything. They've got things they haven't even opened yet, and they've been together 15 years!"

But what concerns there are about Cruise tend to be outweighed by his star power and personal charisma.

While filming the promos in Los Angeles, new dad Hader heard that a man had tried to set off a car bomb in Times Square, near where his wife and new baby lived, and couldn't reach them. 
When Cruise saw the nervous look on Hader's face, he took action.

Two days' worth of work, Hader said, "and he got it done in 45 minutes." Then Katie Holmes came up to him and handed him a piece of paper with his new flight information. "You're on the red eye tonight," she told him. "I'm like, 'What?!'" Hader said. Because Cruise got him out of work and on a plane that night, he was able to surprise his wife and daughter by 7:45 the next morning and check in on them in person. "So that's what it's like to work with Tom Cruise," Hader said.

From his breakout role as psycho Ray Sinclair opposite Melanie Griffith and Jeff Daniels in the 1986 cult classic "<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091983/?ref_=nv_sr_1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Something Wild</a>" (which earned him a Golden Globe nomination), to his legendary performance as mobster-turned-snitch Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas," the actor has adapted to every sea change the industry has thrown at him.In the current superhero trend movie studios are obsessed with, Liotta has shifted to television where he's found success opposite Jennifer Lopez in the NBC cop drama, "<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4118584/?ref_=nv_sr_1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shades of Blue,</a>" where the two play dirty cops (the show's third and final season premieres Sunday).Business Insider sat down with Liotta at a quiet restaurant in Lower Manhattan to talk about his shift to television; the one critique about working with Lopez; being disappointed he wasn't asked to be in Scorsese's next movie, "The Irishman;" and why he doesn't believe the sexual misconduct allegations against Woody Allen.Jason Guerrasio: You have said the reason you've gotten into TV is to hopefully score better movie role offers. "Shades of Blue" is going into its last season, did it work? Getting better offers?Ray Liotta: Yeah. But also there's definitely been a change, a shift, in what studios do. If you look at last year's Oscars they put up ten movies for best picture. Some of those just didn't belong. They are stretching it. Guerrasio: They are stretching it because they want to get some of those blockbusters consideration in a field that for decades has been arthouse focused. Liotta: Yeah. That's all it's become. It's about getting that $100 million or $150 million box office. It keeps going up and up and that's all they shoot for. I think there's fatigue setting it. Look at the last one, "Solo," even though it opened big they thought it was going to be bigger. I think people are just like, chill out for a minute. Guerrasio: That being said, it seems for an actor there's a lot more opportunities on the TV and streaming side. Liotta: Now, yes. No question about it. And it's not a sin to do it. Back when I started, like '77 or so, if you were doing a television show your career was over. Or you were like Karl Malden, a great actor in some of the best movies from "Street Car Named Desire" to -Guerrasio: "On the Waterfront."Liotta: He was great in that. But then there was a shift in the business where this TV thing showed up and the movie roles dried up - especially as you get older (Malden starred on the TV show "The Streets of San Francisco" and was nominated for an Emmy from 1974-1977). It was smart for him because going to TV put a ton of money in his pocket. Guerrasio: So you dig doing TV?Liotta: Yeah, I'll miss doing "Shades" because it was just so full and rich. I don't mind doing TV at all. Guerrasio: But how do you feel about the Marvel movies and "Star Wars" movies? Are those projects where if you were offered a role you'd be into it?Liotta: I would explore it. I remember after my first movie, "Something Wild," I got a call, they wanted me to audition for "Batman." And I just said, "No, that's crazy." And that was the beginning of the comic book craze.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">APRay Liotta loved working with Jennifer Lopez on "Shades of Blue," but admitted her discipline eventually got "a little looser."</div></div></div>Guerrasio: So you've been on a TV series with Jennifer Lopez for three seasons. What was it like? What really surprised you in how she works?Liotta: She had so many things on her plate so I was always impressed that she always knew her lines, and mine. I need a few days to let the lines sink in, I'm used to movies where you get a month or so. I love doing the homework because things get deeper and fuller. For this, you just have to commit. With Jennifer, at first it was a big question mark for me, they want to do this edgy thing, but she was really good. She had some really good scenes. As it wore on, I think she knew she was leaving, and I don't want to bash her but her discipline got a little looser. Guerrasio: You mean during this season? Because she knew the show was ending?Liotta: Maybe, I don't know. I don't know what her motives were. But all in all I had a really good time working with her. It was fun doing scenes with her. My favorite scenes from the show are with her because they were real juicy. Because in the show she's like a daughter to me. Guerrasio: When you see someone across from you maybe not fully into the work, distracted, are you the kind of actor that is going to pull them aside and say something?Liotta: No. No. No. She definitely was there with her lines and dedicated in terms of the work. Just every now and then she would come late and if you come late it's a domino effect. NBC was really strict about a 14-hour work day. They cut if off at 14. So if you're at the end of the day you may only get one or two takes of a scene, so that wasn't exactly the teamwork that was needed. Guerrasio: You've said in interviews that you didn't really figure out the Hollywood game until well after "Goodfellas." That's when you finally got yourself a publicist and started getting yourself out there more. What is different now for an actor compared to working back in the '70s and '80s?Liotta: I don't know how to get started now. The actors who are doing the superhero movies are the ones getting the leads in independent movies. Maybe if you get into a horror movie, it helps. But right now it's the superhero guys. But I'm just curious of the shelf life on that. They just beat those movies to death. And you can't blame the studios because from their point of view they don't give a f--- if the movie is good or bad, they need to answer to their shareholders. So I understand what it is.I didn't have a publicist up until "Goodfellas," I didn't know that was what you're supposed to do. Nobody was helping me. I had the agents, but back then I think I was with the wrong people at that time to get me to the next thing. Now people brand themselves. I just did a movie with Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver, a Noah Baumbach movie. So here's the movie where they can use their acting chops. Adam is really a talented guy. He's doing it right but he's f---ing lucky to go and play Darth Vader.Guerrasio: Because now he can start calling his own shots. Liotta: Right. You become the top guy on the list. Guerrasio: You in a Baumbach movie, I like that.Liotta: Yeah. I'm a lawyer in it. Adam and Scarlett's characters are going through a divorce, he comes to me and I'm a lawyer who explains all these ways we can get stuff out of her in the divorce and he's like "no, that's too aggressive." So he ends up going to court and there he realizes that Scarlett has a lawyer that's really aggressive. So then he's like, "Oh, s--t," and he comes back to me to represent him.Guerrasio: So a dark comedy?Liotta: I don't know if dark but it's a slice of life. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">Warner Bros.Ray Liotta hasn't worked with Martin Scorsese since "Goodfellas," but almost was in "The Departed."</div></div></div>Guerrasio: Are you a little bummed you're not in the Scorsese movie coming to Netflix, "The Irishman?"Liotta: At first I was, definitely. I don't know, I guess I wasn't their cup tea because I have never really done a movie for him since - no, there was something in "The Departed" that could have happened. But I had a movie I was already committed to so I couldn't get out of it. Guerrasio: Who would you have played?Liotta: Ah, it doesn't matter.Guerrasio: Out of all the memorable actors who have worked with Scorsese you are one of the few who only worked with him once.Liotta: The parts were just never right. I have seen every movie that he's done and I can't say, "Oh, f---, I should have been doing that." Like, "Wolf of Wall Street," who am I going to play?Guerrasio: "Hugo," who are you going to play in that?Liotta: [Laughs] "Hugo." That's a good movie, shame nobody went to see that. That was a really good movie. Ben Kingsley was great. But I'll be interested to see "The Irishman." Guerrasio: The whole de-aging thing.Liotta: Yeah. It's really going into a new thing of aging these people back. Everybody in the movie is pretty much in their 70s, so once I saw that I was like, "Oh, of course I wouldn't be asked." He's going to work with Joe [Pesci], and Bob [De Niro], and Harvey [Keitel], and Al Pacino. Guerrasio: "Goodfellas" showed up on Netflix not too long ago and it's crazy to think that a whole new generation is now being introduced to that movie. But also I have to think because of streaming more people are seeing your other movies like "Narc" and "Cop Land" more than ever before.Liotta: Younger people like 14, 15-year-old kids come up to me and they will say that they saw a movie of mine. I'm very, very lucky that I had two movies that I think will live for a long time. Guerrasio: Personally, I think more than two.Liotta: Yeah, I wish more people saw "Narc." And "Cop Land." Guerrasio: Do you actively go out and try to get roles that are more fun and lighthearted or does it come down to what is offered you?Liotta: Playing Frank Sinatra [in "The Rat Pack"] was a lot of fun. You're singing and dancing, that was a lot of fun. I did that in "Muppets Most Wanted," too. I mean, I've done it. They are there - "Heartbreakers" was like that, "Dominick and Eugene" was beautiful. But just for some reason, the bad guys just stand out in people's mind. And that's with any actor.Guerrasio: Who is the director you would drop everything right now and go work with, that you have never worked with yet?Liotta: Woody Allen, I would.Guerrasio: Even despite the allegations against him?Liotta: I believe what he says. I don't think he did what they accuse him of.
