In a statement, <keyword id="109790" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Motors">Kia Motors</keyword> India - a wholly owned subsidiary of <keyword id="1055815" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Motors-Corporation">Kia Motors Corporation</keyword> of South Korea - said: "This record booking number affirms its status as a game-changer by customers in the highly competitive compact SUV category. This milestone figure was attained within two months of opening of bookings on August 20, 2020." Kia Motors said that last month 9,266 units of the Sonet were dispatched, making it the leader of the compact SUV segment within 12 days of its price announcement and market launch. Curiously, the announcement comes on the day when Japan's Nissan Motor Corporation world premiered its new compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) Magnite and said it would be made in India for Indian and the global market. The Magnite will soon be fighting against Sonet, Hyundai Motor's Venue and others in the Indian market. Kia Sonet gets over 50,000 bookings in just 2 months

Greater Noida, Feb 5 () South Korean auto maker Kia Motors on Wednesday launched its premium multi purpose vehicle Carnival, and showcased a new concept for a global SUV Sonet at the Auto Expo here. Carnival is being launched in India in three different specifications at a starting price of Rs 24.95 lakh for its Premium variant (ex-showroom), Rs 28.95 lakh for its Prestige variant (ex-showroom), and Rs 33.95 lakh for its Limousine variant (ex-showroom). Kia Sonet concept will be developed further ahead of a launch in the Indian market in the second half of 2020. Kia Motors India said it had received more than 1,400 bookings for the new car on the first day of orders and has a total of more than 3,500 bookings received till date. Kia had entered the Indian market with its SUV Seltos, which was displayed as SP Concept in the previous edition of the Auto Expo in 2018. Commenting on the India journey, Kia Motors India MD and CEO Kookhyun Shim said: "We have sought to understand Indian customers' aspirations, and match them with best-in-class products and services." He further said, "Our latest vehicle, Kia Carnival, is a clear example of this approach. Though it represents a leap up from the Seltos, into a premium, aspirational segment, it has been devised with the same passion." Shim further said, "As the Indian market evolves, we will continue to offer customers here the best and most innovative products and services." Kia Sonet concept is a compact SUV which will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Ford Ecosport. Kia Motors said the vehicle will be launched in India in the second half of 2020. Carnival, on the other hand, looks to enter a segment dominated by Toyota's Innova Crystal. It is powered by a 2.2-liter VGT BS6 diesel engine, paired with an eight-speed "Sportsmatic" transmission. He's cofounder and CEO of ClickMechanic - an online marketplace for car mechanics.It's an "exciting" time for the company, he told Business Insider. Last year, it closed a $1 million funding round (£810,000), briefly reached net profitability, and is starting to expand into the garages for the first time.<h2>The origins of ClickMechanic</h2>Jervis cofounded ClickMechanic in 2012 with Felix Kenton after finishing a research masters at the University of Manchester looking at problems in the automotive repair space. Today, it's based in West London, in the friendly but slightly ramshackle Ugli Campus workspace in White City, West London - far from London's trendy startup heart of Shoreditch and "Silicon Roundabout."ClickMechanic is, simply, an online marketplace for mechanics. If you need a mechanic, you go to the site, provide information about your vehicle and the details of what it needs done, and it gives you a quote for the costs. If you're happy, it'll match you up with a mechanic in the area, who will come along and work on your vehicle wherever it is.Unlike other rival services that let mechanics and garages bid on potential jobs, ClickMechanic sets the fees itself - and takes 20% for its trouble."We're delivering [mechanics] bookings that they just have to accept ," Jervis said. "All the mechanic is doing is fixing cars and getting paid for it. They're not having to do marketing, they're not having to do accounting, they're not having to do customer service, they're not having to bid on work. So there's a lot of value we offer to each transaction, which I think the vast majority of mechanics realise."Available throughout England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the startup has 1,000 mechanics on its platform, with thousands of completed bookings every month, Jervis said. At the time of the investment, the startup was running at a "monthly net profitable position," the CEO says, though it has since made additional hires and investment.Jervis is hesitant to call the (oversubscribed) round a Series A: "No, it's not, it's too small ... with this investment, the idea is to deploy the cash, deploy most of it, then raise a proper Series A." (He declined to discuss the valuation, but said it was "significantly more than it was for the last round.")The cash injection is being spent in a range of areas as the business grows.ClickMechanic is hiring heavily, "in all different areas. In operations, in tech, marketing, business development, so right across the board," Jervis says. After a pilot in the summer of 2016, it is now partnering with independent garages who will pick up customers' vehicles and take them away to their facilities to work on them - broadening the kind of work available on the platform."The customer doesn't have to drive to the garage, they don't have to sit around. The user experience is very similar in so far as the mechanic comes to you, the only difference is they're recovering the vehicle to a workshop to perform the work and then returning it."Nic Brisbourne, managing partner at Forward Partners (which is investing £400,000 into ClickMechanic), said in an email: "I'd heard a little about ClickMechanic through industry contacts but we first met Andrew and Felix at a networking event in early 2016. I was immediately impressed with their overall vision for the business and the mission they were on to improve the experiences of UK customers in an industry ripe for disruption. "<h2>The family trade</h2>There's an interesting parallel between Andrew Jervis' business and that of his grandfather, 60-odd years ago."My Granddad, in the Second World War, he was a mechanic, and he used to fix all the military vehicles," Jervis told me."He went in as a really young lad, I think he was 18 or something, and learnt this trade for five years. And when he came out of the army his dad wanted him to get involved in the family haulage business, and he was like 'I kinda want to carry on fixing cars. This is quite fun.'"And he set up a tiny little workshop that could just fit one car in. He got fixing cars - and it just so happened that it coincided with the growth of vehicles on UK roads, kinda growing almost exponentially. The carpool in the UK was growing massively through the fourties, fifties, sixties, seventies. So his little mechanics business got a few more mechanics. Then he started buying cars, fixing, and selling them. Then he started importing cars. Then it grew into a lease company. Then he ultimately sold that in the seventies."Half a century later, Jervis is capitalising on a similar seismic change to the growth of personal car ownership: The internet, and the online marketplaces it has enabled."Growing up a lot of my school holidays were spent in parts departments or just round that world, but I decided not to become a mechanic," Jervis says. He went to university, did business studies, got a job at a bank at the Isle of Man, and went on to set up an initial business connected to the automotive industry.He then decided he wanted to get off the island, took the masters at the University of Manchester - including an "85,000 word thesis on the automotive repair space problems [and] solutions" - before moving to London. He joined the Entrepreneur First accelerator, met his cofounder, and ClickMechanic was born.<h2>'We can offer something slightly different'</h2>The company is also beginning to think about expansion overseas. It'd likely be major Western European country with high car penetration like France, Germany, or Spain ("but we haven't nailed anything down"), at the end of 2017 or the start of 2018.But for all the optimism, hiring, and expansion plans, it's not all plain sailing. One problem Jervis identifies is the difficulty of hiring in London. There's not enough top-tier technical talent, he says - and when it exists, it's in serious demand."We've seen a lot of candidates who've been okay, but maybe not the exceptional people we want. But when we find the exceptional people we want, we often find they'll have five or six offers, and you'll be competing with a Deliveroo or Carwow. And it's like 'okay, well we can offer something slightly different,' but those are the kind of sexy unicorns or startups who are in the press on a weekly basis and huge coffers of money, and they spend big."But what about Brexit? It's <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/european-tech-investors-want-more-info-on-brexit-accel-techcrunch-disrupt-2016-12">a subject of constant concern for the UK technology industry</a> - just like everyone else - and threatens to make hiring in the tech sector even harder. "It's probably brought a little bit of uncertainty around the funding ecosystem, access to talent with migration, I think even consumer uncertainty a little bit. Those sorts of events, and Trump and so on, just make people a little bit uneasy. How the grandson of a World War II tank mechanic built an online marketplace for mechanics

According to Tulsee <keyword id="335359" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="doshi" source="Orion">Doshi</keyword>, Head of Product, Responsible AI at Google, the company will open up access to Bard to teenagers in most countries around the world on Thursday. "Teens in those countries who meet the minimum age requirement to manage their own Google Account will be able to access Bard in English, with more languages to come over time," said Doshi. Before launching to teens, the tech giant consulted with child safety and development experts to help shape its content policies and an experience that prioritises safety. "Organisations like the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) advised us on how to keep the needs of teens and families in mind," Doshi added. Teens can use Bard to find inspiration, discover new hobbies and solve everyday problems. Bard can also be a helpful learning tool for teens, allowing them to dig deeper into topics, better understand complex concepts and practice new skills in ways that work best for them. "For even more interactive learning, we're bringing a math learning experience into Bard. Anyone, including teens, can simply type or upload a picture of a math equation, and Bard won't just give the answer - it'll share step-by-step explanations of how to solve it," said Doshi. Bard will be able to help with data visualisation, too. "FOSI's research found that most teens and parents expect that GenAI skills will be an important part of their future," according to Stephen Balkam, Founder and CEO of the Family Online Safety Institute. Teens also shared feedback with Google directly that they have questions about how to use generative AI and what its limitations might be. "We've trained Bard to recognise areas that are inappropriate to younger users and implemented safety features and guardrails to help prevent unsafe content, such as illegal or age-gated substances, from appearing in its responses to teens," said the company. "We also recognise that many people, including teens, are not always aware of hallucinations in large language models (LLMs)," Doshi noted. LLMs are prone to "hallucinating," which means that they can generate text that is factually incorrect or nonsensical. "So the first time a teen asks a fact-based question, we'll automatically run our double-check response feature, which helps evaluate whether there's content across the web to substantiate Bard's response," the company said. Google makes Bard chatbot available for teens with some guardrails

While AI has its fair share of benefits, it has also been put to some scary uses. In a bizarre incident, a WhatsApp scammer has used AI <keyword id="8809612" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="deepfake-video" source="Orion">deepfake video</keyword> to steal ₹40,000 from <keyword id="18051655" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ps-radhakrishnan" source="Orion">PS Radhakrishnan</keyword>, a 73-year-old retired government employee from Kozhikode, Kerala. The <keyword id="130129" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kerala-police" source="Orion">Kerala Police</keyword> have shared information about the incident in a<a href="https://www.facebook.com/keralapolice/posts/667139505439973?ref=embed_post"> post</a> on Facebook. According to the post, the scammer used artificial intelligence to impersonate an ex-colleague of <keyword id="62601" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="radhakrishnan" source="Orion">Radhakrishnan</keyword>’s to dupe the latter into transferring ₹40,000. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What is AI deepfake?" comment="subhead" text="What is AI deepfake?">What is AI deepfake?</cmsannotation> To understand what happened, we need to first understand what AI deepfake actually is. Deepfake involves using AI to replace the likeness of one person with another. Initially, he asked the victim about his family members, shared his own family photographs and talked about their mutual colleagues. Later, the scammer called the victim and claimed that he was at the Dubai airport, waiting to board a flight to India. He then claimed that his sister-in-law was being prepped for an emergency surgery in Mumbai and an advance of ₹40,000 was needed. Radhakrishnan was initially sceptical and did not wish to send the money fearing an online scam. The scammer then said that he would immediately video call to put Radhakrishnan’s fears to rest. The scammer then video-called Radhakrishnan and spoke to him for 25 seconds. The victim has claimed that the scammer looked exactly like his friend and spoke like a normal person. This prompted him to send ₹40,000 to the scammer. The scammer then again called the victim, asking for an additional ₹35,000. This spooked Radhakrishnan, who then contacted his friend seeking confirmation but the friend denied any knowledge about all of this. After realising he had been scammed, Radhakrishnan approached the <keyword id="18051656" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-cyber-cell" source="Orion">National Cyber Cell</keyword> and the complaint was then transferred to the Kerala Police. The police were able to trace the money and froze the account. The Kerala Police have said that they have been able to recover the entire amount of ₹40,000. Insider spoke with a PR expert and a hip-hop music journalist to understand why Althoff has become such a polarizing figure and to dissect her meteoric ascension. A representative for Althoff did not respond to Insider's request for comment on these criticisms.<h2>Althoff claims she landed big-name stars through hustling, but an expert says that's unlikely</h2>In Althoff's version of her path to fame, she paints herself as a hustler, someone with a vision who isn't afraid to chase it. But <a href="http://www.ericschiffer.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eric Schiffer</a>, a veteran crisis-PR expert and the chairman of the Los Angeles-based agency Reputation Management Consultants, told Insider that while Althoff's rise to fame could be explained by strategic prowess, the more likely scenario is that she's involved with a well-connected talent booker. "I'm not trying to get hard-hitting information about you — I'm not trying to uncover anything. It's just a conversation. "But at the same time, I don't think they understand that you're not offering anything new to the artists nor the media space by going to someone solely like Bobbi."She added that it might come down to a celebrity's publicist thinking it's a worthwhile opportunity.Schiffer expressed a similar sentiment: Celebrities might say yes to an interview because it could mean connecting with a bigger or younger audience.
