This eight-seater's interior is commodious for passengers and for cargo, and sports a long list of features inside the cabin and under the hood. The 2022 Telluride is a beautiful family vehicle for drivers looking for a three-row SUV packed with practical equipment.</p><p>The 2022 Kia Telluride earned a great score on its <a href="https://www.jdpower.com/cars/2022/kia/telluride">J.D. Power reliability rating</a>, standing out among midsize SUVs. On both types of tracks, the Telluride provided a great ride and handling experience.</p><p>The Telluride's powertrain and brakes are both powerful and responsive, and the tech features like the head-up display significantly aid the driving experience, easily showing up in the driver's line of sight.</p><div type="image" title="2022 Kia Telluride" height="3500" width="2333" msid="88860994" hostid="261"></div><p>I had no problems maneuvering the Telluride over a steep dirt hill, through a puddle, and over a loose log bridge. The SUV offers a grippy, grounded feel, even around inclined corners.</p><p>The exterior design looks cool, and the interior is extraordinarily comfortable, providing numerous tech features that are reasonably easy to figure out how to use.</p><p>With all these tech features at their fingertips, drivers will feel tricked out in the sumptuous cabin — and downright safe while they're driving on the streets or on rough terrain.</p><div type="image" title="2022 Kia Telluride" height="2333" width="3500" msid="88860996" hostid="261"></div><p>The Telluride comes standard with advanced driver technology that includes forward-collision assist, rear blind-spot collision avoidance assist, lane-keep assist, lane-follow assist, rear cross-traffic assist, reverse parking distance warning, smart cruise control and safe-exit assist. Further safety features include electronic stability control and rear occupant alert.</p><p>The 2022 Telluride earned a safety rating of five out of five from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, scoring five stars in the side crash test, four stars in the frontal crash test, and four stars in the rollover test. The 2022 Telluride has not been crash tested yet by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but the similar 2021 model was named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS.</p><p>While the high safety scores and numerous features make the Telluride a sensible SUV, it also provides a practical amount of cargo space and hauling ability so you can pack up all your gear. In the back, the Telluride can stash up to 87 cubic feet of gear — or 21 cubic feet in the cargo area behind the back seats, which is pretty good for a midsize SUV.</p><div type="image" title="2022 Kia Telluride" height="2800" width="3500" msid="88860998" hostid="261"></div><p>The Telluride SX we drove included the Towing package ($795), adding the tow hitch and self-leveling rear suspension, which maintains the vehicle's ride and handling balance. Properly equipped, the Telluride can tow up to 5,000 pounds.</p><p>The Telluride's exterior also sports power-folding, heated outside mirrors with turn signals, a sliding sunroof, and a hands-free power liftgate that all come standard, streamlining your whole driving experience.</p><p>Our Telluride SX featured the added bonus equipment of the wolf gray paint ($495) and Nightfall edition package ($1,395), which included the 20-inch black alloy wheels, stylish black front grille, and black exterior trim.</p><p>Overall, the tech application, driving experience, and user comfort of the 2022 Kia Telluride make it a great choice for family-friendly luxury driving — and even if you end up on a beach at the coast or on a dirt road on your way to a winery, this Telluride can handle it with the best of its class.</p>

<p>But they're getting a new look. </p>
<p>Kia and ad agency David &amp; Goliath have the hamsters elliptical, spin, and jump rope to Lady Gaga all for the sake of losing weight. Gone are the pudgy break dancers, in are the disturbingly skinny personified rodents with hipster hairstyles. (Kia is able to get other branded content in the ad by having them read Wired, Men's Health, and Rolling Stone when they get their hair done.)</p>

<p>This isn't the first ad with a weight loss focus. Volkswagen's highly anticipated 2012 Super Bowl spot, following its instant <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R55e-uHQna0">"Little Darth" 2011 classic</a>, starred a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/here-is-vws-highly-anticipated-super-bowl-2012-ad-2012-2">comically obese golden retriever losing weight</a> in order to run alongside a VW. That one had a cuter tone than the Kia ad.</p>
<p>Other brands have spokescharacters lose weight behind closed doors. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-the-evolution-of-the-quaker-man-2012-2">Quaker Oats gave its Quaker Man a "lighter" image</a> when the logo was redesigned in February 2012.</p>

Michael Jordan's Charlotte Hornets is the only team using the Jumpman logo on its new Nike uniforms.</p><p>The jerseys also feature the logo for KIA, which sponsors the event.</p><p>A big reason for the black and white design appears to be an attempt by Nike to use the All-Star Game gear as a part of a larger brand promotion. The newly released "City of Flight" line from Jordan Brand sports a similar black-and-white color scheme and, of course, the prominent Jumpman logo.</p><p>With this being the first year of Nike's new apparel and uniform deal with the NBA, it would make sense that the brand would want to make a splash during its first All-Star break.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>When asked about a potential connection between the two designs, a representative of Jordan Brand said "<span>We don't have any official news to share at this time."</span></p><p><span>Depending on your personal aesthetic, chances are you either love or hate these jerseys, with little room in between. Vice Chairman Chung Euisun announces the new Genesis brand.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Hyundai Motors announced this week that it will launch a global luxury car brand called Genesis.</p><p>The Korean automaker made the decision in an attempt to take advantage of the higher profit margins in the luxury market and to help the company recover from weak earnings, <a href="http://www.cnbc.com/2015/11/04/hyundai-motor-launches-genesis-brand-to-tap-into-luxury-market.html" target="_blank">Reuters reported</a>.</p><p>Although Hyundai's US sales rose 20% in October and 5% for the year, its global third quarter net income dropped by more than 25%, to $1.1 billion. </p><p>According to<a href="http://www.cnbc.com/2015/10/22/the-associated-press-hyundai-motor-reports-lowest-earnings-in-more-than-5-years.html" target="_blank"> AP</a>, much of this can be attributed to softness in the Hyundai's China business, which has fallen sharply over the past quarter. </p><p>To help run the new Genesis division, Hyundai has hired former Bentley and Lamborghini design boss Luc Donckerwolke, who will join the company early next year, Reuters reported. </p><p>By 2020, the Genesis brand will consist of six models including sedan, sports cars and SUVs. The brand will begin by spinning off Hyundai's current Genesis luxury sedan. The Genesis sedan first launched in 2008, with a second generation introduced in 2013. </p><p>Even while marketed as Hyundai models, the current Genesis cars carry very few of the company's logos. Instead, the cars are festooned with "Genesis" badging. </p><p>Last year, Business Insider named the second generation Hyundai Genesis sedan one of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/most-important-cars-of-2014-2014-12" target="_blank">most important cars of 2014</a>. </p><p>The launch of the Genesis takes a page from the playbook run by Japan's large automakers more than two decades ago. Honda launched its Acura luxury brand in 1986, while Nissan and Toyota followed with their Infiniti and Lexus brands respectively in 1989. </p><p>It is unclear yet when the Genesis brand will come to the US, although the company did emphasize that the brand will be a global venture. </p><p>Hyundai Motors entered the US market in 1986 with the Excel compact and has since sold 10 millions car over the past 30 years. Hyundai is going after Lexus and Mercedes with a luxury brand of its own

It came to $360,400 after $55,000 in optional features. </li></ul><p>Gliding around town in a $360,000 Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible, my husband and I had everything we could've wanted in a car: massaging seats, tasteful chrome accents, a blue interior, a W12 engine, and neck warmers on the backs of our seats. Yet he turned to me and said: "I still don't understand who this is for." </p><p>I sighed, because I knew he never would. </p><div type="image" title="A white Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="5155" width="3285" msid="94926555" hostid="261" sizebytes="771230"></div><p>The Continental GT is a grand tourer, which is a type of car that mixes performance with varying degrees of luxury for peak long-distance driving. Grand tourers are the yachts of the sports-car world, and their price tags are often deep into the six figures.</p><p>Some grand tourers, like the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lexus-lc-lc500-luxury-coupe-greatest-car-grand-tourer-touring-2020-7">$100,000 Lexus LC500</a>, lean sportier. Others, like the Continental GT Speed, emphasize pillowy, Gatsby-style luxury with lots of power underneath. Bentley and Rolls have had a complicated relationship over the years, but it all ended when the Volkswagen Group acquired Bentley and <a href="https://europe.autonews.com/article/19980803/ANE/808030820/">BMW took Rolls</a>. </p><p>The Continental was the <a href="https://www.bentleymotors.com/en/world-of-bentley/the-bentley-story/history-and-heritage/the-continental-story.html">first all-new Bentley</a> created in the modern Volkswagen era, making it a <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a28122939/bentley-sales-growth-since-2003/">revolutionary car</a> for the brand. It comes with Bentley's twin-turbocharged W12 engine, meaning its 12 cylinders sit in a big "W" shape instead of the more common "V."</p><p>W-shaped engines are <a href="https://www.thedrive.com/news/37099/the-rise-and-fall-of-vws-radical-w8-and-w12-engines-explained">rare, notoriously complex, and expensive to maintain</a> over time, but they're a sort of wonder among car buyers — a performance-focused powerplant most people can't have or afford, which is why Volkswagen currently puts them in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bentley-bentayga-luxury-suv-2018-review-photos-details-2018-1">six-figure Bentleys</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bugatti-chiron-driving-3-million-2017-8">seven-figure Bugattis</a>. The Continental GT Speed's W12 makes 650 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, and Bentley claims it can hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds despite weighing the same as nearly two Honda Civics.</p><div type="image" title="A white Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="4499" width="2965" msid="94926559" hostid="261" sizebytes="346254"></div><p>The Continental GT Speed starts at about $300,000, and mine had $55,275 in optional features. That included a $9,000 <a href="https://www.naimaudio.com/">Naim</a> audio system, $2,000 in mood lighting, $4,000 in carbon-fiber finishes, $3,700 in contrast stitching, and more. After fees, the car came to $360,400.</p><h2>Old money meets modern tech </h2><p>In the two decades since the Continental GT debuted, its looks haven't changed much. Its iconic circular headlights, large mesh grille, bulky figure, wide rear fenders, and smooth exterior lines are all still there, and its styling has gone from "ornate" to "very ornate." These days, its headlights look like glowing crystal glassware, and its intricate diamond stitching glistens in the sun.</p><div type="image" title="A Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="3333" width="5000" msid="94926560" hostid="261" sizebytes="1046228"></div><p>The car is a cocoon of luxury, with a cushy interior and a convertible top so thick that when the roof is up, the outside world practically doesn't exist. When you want it to, that roof <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajLUiBhxKiQ&amp;ab_channel=98.lt">automatically retracts</a> into a space near the trunk. </p><p>The Continental GT has two doors and four seats, but <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lexus-lc-lc500-luxury-coupe-greatest-car-grand-tourer-touring-2020-7">like many grand tourers</a>, the cramped back row is more of a purse shelf than anything. It's also full of dials and switches: Control your massaging seats here and turn on your neck warmers there, all while your seat pulses to match the beat of your music.</p><div type="image" title="The Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="2984" width="5058" msid="94926561" hostid="261" sizebytes="1083010"></div><p>My loaner was simple on the outside — white with a black top — but intricate on the inside, from italicized "Speed" logos sprinkled around its interior to clusters of small chrome switches all over the dashboard and center console. The infotainment screen folded into the glossy carbon-fiber dashboard when the car turned off, erasing modern technology and restoring the look of old money so integral to the Bentley or Rolls-Royce ambiance. </p><p>The car was also full of diamond patterns — on the doors, seats, cupholders, switches, handles, and speaker mesh, among other places. Its plush blue interior had red piping and diamond stitching all over, the patterns acting as subliminal messages: If I'm surrounded by diamonds, I must be one, too. </p><div type="image" title="The Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="2459" width="4409" msid="94926562" hostid="261" sizebytes="451170"></div><p>The only style choice I couldn't fathom was the piano black, which is a shiny, plasticky accent material common on modern cars of any price point. It looks beautiful in a showroom, but after five minutes of use, it's covered in dust and grease.</p><p>No car should have it — not a $30,000 <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-seltos-review-2021-price-photos-suv-hyundai-reviews-specs-2020-5">Kia Seltos</a>, and certainly not a $300,000 Continental GT. </p><h2>Vulgar W12 power wrapped in an elegant shell</h2><p>Earlier this year, I took the car to Circuit of The Americas, a 3.4-mile Formula One track in Austin with sharp corners, fast straightaways, and slithering esses. The Continental is meant for the road — for touring in luxury, not ripping up a racetrack — but I couldn't stop smiling as I threw it around each corner.</p><div type="image" title="A white Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="4103" width="8000" msid="94926563" hostid="261" sizebytes="1174132"></div><p>Its tires slid through the turns, leaning into its heavy curb weight and bulky nature next to track-prepped Lamborghinis that glued themselves to the ground. Its crash-detection systems wailed as I stomped the brakes, mostly because I didn't know how to turn them off. Yet the Continental still <em>tried</em> to be agile, and for what it was, it succeeded. It made every corner, braking like the hands of God stopping a bus in its tracks.</p><p>The Continental was suave and cool, even if it was a little out of place. That's just its nature.</p><div type="image" title="A white Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="5184" width="3456" msid="94926564" hostid="261" sizebytes="913078"></div><p>When I left the track and drove back onto the street, the car floated over bumps and potholes — all while its true nature lurked just below my right foot, ready to launch forward with the kind of effortless power only six figures can buy. </p><p>I got stares from drivers and pedestrians alike. A group of kids yelled after me to ask if I was in a Rolls-Royce, but I didn't want to get into the history of all that. I just turned around in a nearby parking lot to let them take a few photos for their friends, because everyone appreciates a good brag now and then. </p><div type="image" title="The Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="2582" width="4522" msid="94926565" hostid="261" sizebytes="967424"></div><p>That was the case anywhere we went in the Continental GT. My husband and I were the center of attention, yet he still couldn't figure it out: How do you choose a car in a segment so full of fluff and flashiness? What specs make a person go for the Continental GT over other grand tourers, like the $360,000 Rolls-Royce Dawn, the $200,000 Aston Martin DB11, or even the $100,000 Lexus LC500?</p><p>I told him he was asking the wrong question. When you're shopping for a car in this territory, you <em>can</em> compare features or prices. That <em>can</em> inform which car sticks out most, or why you'd go for a 650-horsepower W12 chariot of a Bentley over something else. </p><div type="image" title="A white Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible" height="2182" width="3792" msid="94926566" hostid="261" sizebytes="116300"></div><p>But deep down, you buy a Bentley because you want a Bentley. You buy it because Bentley's branding puts down vibes that you'd like to pick up, and because it makes you think heaven really could be a commodity. You buy a Bentley because of how it makes you feel, not what it makes you think.</p><p>If you can't wrap your head around that, you're just not the right audience for it.</p>

Southern Comfort's New Campaign Involves A Dude In A Speedo Giving Weather Reports [THE BRIEF]

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Thomson Reuters</span></p><p class="caption">A Tesla logo is seen in the dealership in Berlin</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p class="p1">Tesla's a polarizing company, and perhaps nowhere is that more evident than on Wall Street.</p><p class="p1">Among <a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/tsla/analystestimates">research analysts</a>, long-term predictions for the company's share price range from as low as $180 <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-08-17/morgan-stanley-massively-hikes-price-target-on-tesla-says-stock-could-almost-double">to $450.</a></p><p class="p1">In a nutshell: it's either an appealing investment due to its disruptive prospects, or an overhyped carmaker struggling with its business fundamentals.</p><p class="p1">A $30-billion market cap has helped spur the interest on both sides of the trade. So has the company's ability to produce exciting, expensive, high-performance all-electric cars that do things like break Consumer Reports rating scale.</p><p class="p1"><a href="https://sumzero.com/">SumZero</a>, a social network for hedge-fund analysts and portfolio managers, posed a handful of questions on Tesla's outlook and the valuation of its shares to a pair of investors. John Pangere, founder of Chicago's Windy City Capital, is betting against Tesla shares. <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelfrazis">Michael Frazis,</a> of London-based private equity firm Torchlight GP owns Tesla shares. </p><p class="p1">They discussed Tesla's need to raise more cash in the future to competitive threats, the company's "<a href="https://www.teslamotors.com/de_AT/blog/tesla-improves-financing-product-best-resale-value-guarantee-and-lower-monthly-">resale value guarantee</a>," and the many demands on chief executive Elon Musk's time.</p><p class="p1">Below is an edited transcript of their responses to the questions, <a href="https://sumzero.com/headlines/business_services/TSLA/297-hedge-funds-duel-on-tesla-valuation">provided by SumZero</a>.</p><h3><strong>What the market is missing</strong></h3><p><strong>Pangere: </strong> I love the product the company puts out, but from a pure investment and business perspective, Tesla has some major shortcomings that I feel the market has continued to ignore. The company has yet to turn a profit on each car rolling off the line. Cash costs in order to hit its numbers in the next 5 years are coming, so I don't see how an actual cash profit will be achieved in that time frame. For my money, Tesla is not worth more than Hyundai or Fiat.</p><p><em>Business Insider: Hyundai's market cap is about the same as Tesla's $30 billion, while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' is over $10 billion less, at about $18 billion.</em></p><p><strong>Frazis: </strong>The parallels with Apple several years ago are uncanny. The company is selling every car it can make, pricing its vehicles extraordinarily high, and it's making extreme capital investments in core technology, both in research and development and the factories themselves. </p><p>Will Tesla achieve Elon Musk's sales goal of 500,000 car per year target? Does Tesla have the funding to do so? If so, I'd expect the stock to appreciate three to four times from where it is now in the mid-term. If not, then the growth component of the equity value will vanish.</p><h3>Tesla's cash needs</h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Google Finance</span></p><p class="caption">Tesla Shares over 5 Years</p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>Pangere: </strong>Tesla's first Gigafactory will cost approximately $5 billion to build. In order to continue growing at the rate at which management has stated, Tesla will need several of these factories to reach those goals.</p><p>As a company that has yet to produce a real cash profit, the only way to finance this expansion is through a combination of the debt and equity markets. </p><p><strong>Frazis: </strong>Tesla has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/competition-is-the-best-thing-for-tesla-2015-11">unmet demand</a> for a differentiated product that it builds out of steel and sells at a premium, so it makes sense to raise capital and build as many cars as possible. We'd prefer to have more capital doing this rather than less. Whether this is good or bad will depend on the path capital markets take. If there is a misstep and the debt and equity markets close at a time when Tesla needs cash, then any raise will be highly dilutive.</p><p>Cash is currently sitting at $1.4 billion after Tesla issued equity to raise $739 million net of fees in the second quarter. The market response to this was positive and I'd expect Tesla to consider topping up their cash balances on an annual basis.</p><h3><strong>The resale value guarantee (RVG) program and future profitability<br /></strong></h3><p><strong>Pangere: </strong>When you look into Tesla's resale value guarantee program from the outside, it's a great deal for consumers. Tesla buyers "purchase" a brand new car with a guarantee that the company will "buy" that car back in 36 months at what amounts to roughly 50% of the MSRP of that car.</p><p>But the program is going to hurt the company's cash flow in the future. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugo90/4419952425/">Flickr</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div>From my perspective, this program does three things: 1) inflates sales by offering buyers with an offer that's hard to refuse; 2) puts an artificial floor on the value of a used Model S; and 3) sacrifices potential profits/cash flow in the future for the immediate gratification of reporting higher sales in the present.</p><p><strong>Frazis: </strong>The RVG is concerning, mostly for what it says about Tesla. Musk is willing to promise spending in the future to assist sales today. This is fine, but it's a bad habit and has led to scandals in the past. The temptation to drive sales today by adding costs in the future should only be pushed so far.</p><p>Fortunately the resale market for Tesla vehicles has been very strong so we see this as a minor part of the story, and another indication of the value of these vehicles. But I do wonder if Musk would approach any future weakness in sales by making further promises and guarantees. This would not be good.</p><h3><strong>Tesla Energy</strong></h3><p><strong>Pangere: </strong>Why does Tesla Energy even exist under the Tesla name when Tesla is supposed to be a carmaker?</p><p>It's because it's clear that the car business isn't making money yet - and won't make any money for years to come. So why not enter a brand-new business line in order to try and boost sales figures. It's as if Tesla is trying to redefine itself as a technology company, not as a carmaker, in order to justify a higher valuation.</p><p>The energy business was set up with the intent that SolarCity would be the largest customer of Tesla Energy. So I ask: why didn't SolarCity bring the energy production in house? It makes much more sense that a solar panel manufacturer build, market, and sell a battery backup system that compliments its solar systems than have an auto manufacturer do it.</p><p><strong>Frazis: </strong>There is still something of a mystery about this side of the business. Undoubtedly Tesla has market-leading expertise, but we won't know the truth until the products are being delivered. What we do know is that the market response has been overwhelmingly positive, with $1 billion of indicative demand almost instantly. The true impact of Tesla Energy may well be to increase margins in the core business, allowing Musk to offer his vehicles at a lower cost.</p><h3><strong>Competitive threats</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Porsche</span></p><p class="caption">Porsche's Mission E electric sports car.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Pangere: </strong>While Tesla is ahead of the competition at this point, it's clear by viewing the data just how quickly competitors such as BMW have been able to enter the electric vehicle market. While I currently don't see much competition for electric cars in the same price point as the Model S, it's starting to get awfully crowded in the lower end of the market, one in which Tesla is intent on entering.</p><p> <strong>Frazis:</strong> Tesla's focus on a small number of models has major competitive advantages. Every component of a Tesla has been designed with an electric car in mind. But Musk is right when he talks about new competitors actually benefit ting Tesla. Electric cars account for such a tiny portion of sales that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/porsches-tesla-model-s-killer-is-officially-on-the-way-2015-12">there is plenty of room for all to grow.</a> Tesla will be the main beneficiary of the increasing acceptance of electric vehicles and the build-out of their infrastructure.</p><p>Looking forward, it's possible to picture a mature industry with Tesla as the premium brand and a range of competitors below it, unable to charge quite as much due to their lower brand value.</p><h3><strong>The Model X</strong> </h3><p><strong>Pangere: </strong>The Model X is not an appealing car to me; it looks more like a basic Kia to me than an $80,000-plus SUV. I think the issue with the Model X is that the price point is much higher than originally thought and this may wreak havoc on projected sales. The company has stated it is expecting total production to range from 1,600-1,800 units per week by Q1 2016, but at the Model X's current price point and with a decline in customer deposits, I have my doubts as to whether sales for both the Model X and Model S will match that level of production.</p><p><strong>Frazis: </strong>It's designed for families, and apparently the sales response has been excellent, especially given its outstanding safety characteristics. I can see the hospital-grade air filtration resonating in the major cities of China. However, the biggest difference between the two is that Apple created - and continues to create - large amounts of free cash flow, where Tesla has yet to do so.</p><p>Regardless, I think there's a difference between acting in the best interest of shareholders and the behavior that Elon Musk has put forth in some of his actions. Tesla is intent on creating the appearance of success rather than being transparent and honest with investors. Eventually, as losses continue to accrue, this will catch up with the company Musk. This type of behavior just can't last.</p><p><strong>Frazis: </strong>Musk is a business and tech celebrity. His value is in building hype for the products and being the final arbiter of quality and workmanship. His almost weekly prognostications are somewhat tedious, but Tesla is a beneficiary of this kind of publicity, so I'm all for it. But if Tesla hit major financial issues at the same time as one of his other companies then his unfocused attention would become an issue.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Thomson Reuters</span></p><p class="caption">Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk delivers Model X electric sports-utility vehicles during a presentation in Fremont</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h3><strong>What to watch for</strong></h3><p><strong>Pangere: </strong>Investors should keep an eye on the cash flow statement and balance sheet. I believe the company will have growth in debt and/or issuances of equity, continued increases in capital expenditures as it tries to build out its manufacturing capabilities and real cash losses as the RVG program matures. <br /><br />Some other clues to key in on are the customer deposits line item on the balance sheet - which has actually declined in Q3 from Q2 and may indicate a future slowdown in sales - and the production/delivery figures compared with company guidance. But the bottom line: it all boils down to the company's actual cash burn. At its current rate, it is unsustainable, and I believe it is only going to accelerate from here.</p><p><strong>Frazis: </strong>I'm not really worrying about production delays, but I do worry about sales and pricing, and also whether Tesla miscalculated future expenses caused by promises made to sell cars now and in the past. If the market for expensive electric cars turns out to be fundamentally limited then the upside vanishes. Anecdotally there's no reason to doubt the attractiveness of the firm's products. </p><p>If overseas sales start to pick up substantially in places like Asia, you can be assured that Musk is on track. He proved ruthless in changing course in China when his initial approach failed, and I'd expect him to get this right eventually. These vehicles are just perfect for the smoggy cities of Asia.
