Post-pandemic, there has been a tremendous growth in the digital landscape, which has brought about a big shift where the engagement with the customer is real-time, showing the right product to the right customers at the right time. Another major shift as per Jain is that along with new customer acquisition, companies have started focusing on building deeper relationships with existing customers because the "CAC on new customers has been rising rapidly." Speaking of the solutions that Jain's company is trying to build for marketers, especially merchandisers, Jain highlighted an <keyword id="19262577" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ai-based-catalog" source="Orion">AI-based catalog</keyword> that can help in creating personalized experiences for their customers. He cited the example of UNBXD, which was acquired by Netcore Cloud and specializes in product discovery and catalog enrichment. Combining the enriched catalog data with customer data will be the "holy grail" for marketers. The key problem marketers face today is how to get their data together for the generative AI engines to work their magic, he added. Many companies still have data siloed in so many different places--offline and online--data across various martech platforms. Changing this could transform e-commerce and digital businesses in the future. Answering Barnes' query on data privacy and consent management, Jain said they just work on the data provided by their customers. He further added that marketers should move away from third-party data towards first-party and zero-party data. Giving incentives to marketers to provide their data, what he calls "atomic rewards" can bring a transformation in the data revolution as it will not only be the best and most authentic data, but also reduce concerns about privacy. Talking about recent trends, Jain mentioned that for martech companies, now is a good time to consider buying and merging with other companies. This approach also benefits marketers by reducing the need to handle many different solutions from different vendors, which saves them time and effort. Jain believes that in the future, more companies will combine because managing separate solutions is becoming expensive and challenging. Jain added that businesses need to figure out the optimal way to establish a profits monopoly since every industry has a finite pool of profits. He noted that Google and PayU’s investment in online-to-offline commerce platform DotPe further substantiate this claim. Devendra Agrawal, founder of investment bank Dexter Capital echoed the same sentiment, highlighting that while offline retailers have been severely impacted by the pandemic, online retail received a huge boost. “To compete with online retailers, offline retailers have started adopting solutions offered by ‘Dukan Tech’ startups at an unprecedented rate,” he said. India is home to 60 million SMEs and 13-14 million kirana stores, which employ over 130 million people. “Clearly, it is an extremely vast market and provides great opportunities for digital solutions,” he added. But what are the challenges ahead of these companies? According to Singhal, finding the right product market fit for these startups is going to be extremely challenging for these startups as they have a diverse mix of customers in terms of region, scale and vertical of operations. “Another challenge would be the monetisation aspect. Given the free adoption and availability of Dukan Tech solutions, it would be crucial for these start-ups to figure out what percentage of their merchant base become paid users,” Agrawal added. Sequoia-backed Khatabook is facing similar challenges when it comes to monetisation. The company, valued at $600 million due to its size and scale, is currently in a pre-revenue stage. The company is currently piloting some monetisation engine, according to sources within the company. But the biggest challenge remains the emergence of big tech companies in the segment. Agrawal told Business Insider that any segment where customers are interacting on a daily basis always has the potential for big players jumping in. The question, however, remains how and when they do it. They can either enter organically or follow Walmart’s approach and acquire another company, he added. However, he emphasised that companies that have figured out their business model and are raising capital will be able to survive. “But another thing to keep in mind is that the current dukan tech companies are in the customer acquisition phase. They need to figure out the business model and monetisation engines,” Agrawal added. Gupshup launches Conversation Cloud, AI-powered tool for businesses

Global VC firm <keyword id="48032" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="blackstone" source="Orion">Blackstone</keyword> on Monday reached a definitive agreement to sell its stake in the Kerala-based software-as-a-service (<keyword id="6395918" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SaaS" source="Orion">SaaS</keyword>) provider <keyword id="95627" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ibs-software" source="Orion">IBS Software</keyword> to global private equity firm Apax for $450 million. Mathews, who will remain the majority shareholder. Blackstone sells stake worth $450 mn in Indian firm IBS Software to Apax

This means Insta provides hospital management system or HMS to its clients, who are hospitals, clinics and <keyword id="7874987" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="healthcare-centers" source="Orion">healthcare centers</keyword>, via cloud computing. HMS helps hospitals manage their information like clinical data, inventory, patient information and financials, and integrate all of it across departments. Also, Insta’s own SaaS transition will render it with benefits and also the clients it serves. Insta says its new SaaS-powered system will enable the hospitals – its clients – to improve operational efficiency by 20-25% with minimal revenue leakage. “The India market is ripe for SaaS. It provides the much-needed agility that healthcare players are looking for, thus, giving us the confidence of further expansion in a shorter period of time,” said Abhinav <keyword id="3268" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lal" source="Orion">Lal</keyword>, co-founder and chief technology officer, Practo. Scalability &amp; cost-efficiency The company has ambitious growth plans ahead – to grow the number of its clients by 25%. The SaaS model will provide it with scalability. The company said that the SaaS transition will also provide more value to its partner clinics and hospitals in addition to flexibility. More importantly, the new system will make it more cost-effective, and it can be passed on to its clients. “With this move, the company aims to improve its integration, enabling timely upgrades and greater ease of use, at four times reduction in costs as compared to conventional IT infrastructure,” Insta said in a statement. ‘Helps anticipate revenues &amp; shorten sales lifecycle’ Since it was acquired in 2015 by Practo, Insta grew its business by 368%. It has been clocking 25-30% revenue growth year-on-year, for the last two to three years. “While our consumer business continues to grow, our B2B business is turning profitable. This transition to SaaS is a strategic step in that direction. It helps us anticipate revenues, shorten sales lifecycle, and deepen integration, thus, creating a more predictable ecosystem for both growth and profitability,” said Lal. The global cloud computing market in healthcare is estimated to reach $51.9 billion by 2024. Practo’s Insta says its SaaS transition will help reduce costs by 4x

Freshworks sold 28.5 million common shares, raising $1 billion in proceeds. Girish Mathrubootham, in interviews with several media outlets, highlighted that the Freshworks initial public offering (IPO) created a lot of wealth for its employees as more than 500 of its employees turned crorepatis (millionaires). He further added that about 70, of these 500 employees, are under the age of 30. "I feel like an Indian athlete who has won a gold medal at the Olympics. A part will also be used for general corporate purposes like working capital, operating expenses and capital expenditure. Founded by Mathrubootham and Shan Krishnasamy as Freshdesk in 2010, the company started its journey as a helpdesk software for customer support. It decided to rebrand itself to Freshworks in June 2017 to incorporate the company’s growing software suite. Freshworks claims to have over 52,500 customers across the globe and it reported a revenue of $169 million in the first half of 2021. Compared to the first half of 2020, the company’s revenue has grown by nearly $60 million. The success story of India’s first SaaS company to be listed in Nasdaq

Financial solutions company <keyword id="2777173" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Razorpay">Razorpay</keyword> on Monday said it has acquired AI-based risk tech <keyword id="6395918" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAAS">SaaS</keyword> (software-as-a-service) platform <keyword id="11669390" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tera-finlabs">TERA Finlabs</keyword> for an undisclosed sum. TERA Finlabs is an Indian subsidiary of GAIN Credit, a leading UK digital lender which was launched in 2018 to expand their global footprint in digital lending. This marks the company's third acquisition after foraying into the B2B SME lending space with the launch of Razorpay Capital in 2019, it said in a statement. The company said it has been witnessing a 40-45 per cent growth (on-month) and has achieved $40 billion TPV (Total Payment Volume).
