They said the shutters of the dams were closed after bringing down the water level in the dam to 982.8 metres. The dam's maximum water level is 986.332 metres. Low-lying areas in Kottayam and Alappuzha districts of Kerala continued to experience a flood-like situation with water surging following downpour, although there was a respite from rains since the morning. Two rain related deaths were reported from Kottayam district on Monday. A massive search operation using man and machine, is underway on Saturday to find 50 odd people reported missing after a <keyword id="6420762" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="landslide">landslide</keyword> in <keyword id="28504" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kerala">Kerala</keyword>'s <keyword id="101900" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Idukki">Idukki</keyword> district. Since the Thursday midnight tragedy struck Rajamalai, 18 people have lost their lives while more than a dozen have been rescued and are under treatment in various hospitals in Idukki, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. The tragedy took place about 30km from the popular tourist destination of Munnar when big boulders came down on four lines of estate houses. State Minister for Electricity, M.M.Mani, who hails from the district said the state government will do everything possible to help the victims, so would the Tea company, that owns the estate. "The exact number of missing will have to be ascertained by the tea company, as it's their residential lines and the local village council will also have to work with them. The chances of getting a survivor from the debris is slim now," said Mani. A huge number of rescue personnel drawn from the NDRF, Kerala Police, Fire Force, locals and volunteers are carrying out the massive search exercise. While the Kerala government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to each of the deceased's families, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Rs 2 lakh each. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rainfall in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Alappuzha districts. Sounding a red alert, the IMD said these districts are likely to receive over 20 cms rain in the next 24 hours. IMD officials said almost all districts north of Alappuzha are likely to receive over 20 cms rains. There is likely to be a reduction in rainfall from Tuesday, they said. Three days after the settlements of estate workers were swept away by devastating landslides at Pettimudi near Rajamala, various agencies engaged in the rescue operations on Sunday recovered 17 bodies. Despite adverse weather conditions in Pettimudi, rescue operations by NDRF, fire and police department personnel are continuing to recover bodies of more people feared trapped in the landslide, officials said. While 12 people were rescued, 43 bodies were found. Meanwhile, incessant rains, landslides and opening of shutters of dams across rivers have led to rise in water levels in rivers and streams in central Kerala, aggravating the flood situation. Six shutters of Pamba dam in Pathanamthitta district were opened this afternoon after its water level rose to 983.45 meter mark, raising concerns about floods in Ranni, Chengannur and Kuttanad regions. The shutters were opened to bring down the water level in the dam to 982 meters in nine hours, Pathanamthitta district officials said. There will be a 40 cm rise in water level in river Pamba, they said. Anticipating breach of the river in areas downstream of Pathanamthitta, the district administration has sought the assistance of fishermen to carry out rescue operations. Fishermen from Neendakara and Alappad in neighbouring Kollam district will reach vulnerable areas of Pathanamthitta, including Thiruvalla and Adoor with 15 boats, officials said. Last month, 30 fishermen arrived from Kollam with 10 boats deployed at Kozhencherry and Ranni, officials said. Nearly 100 families living in the vulnerable areas in Ranni have been shifted to safety, they said. Normal life of people in low lying areas of Kottayam and Alappuzha has been affected with flood waters entering their homes. Low-lying areas in Kottayam and Alappuzha districts have been badly hit due to flooding. Hundreds of families have been shifted to relief camps from-low lying areas, including Kumarakom and Kuttanad regions of Kottayam and Alappuzha districts, they said. Farming in Kuttanad 'Below Sea Level Farming System', the only such one in India practicing rice cultivation below sea level for the past two centuries, has been affected due to the breach of bunds due to floods, farmers of the area said. An airport taxi driver was washed away in flood waters at Manarcad area in Kottayam district in the wee hours of Sunday. The body of the man, identified as Justin from Angamaly, was later recovered by the rescue personnel. Officials said four cases of drowning have been reported from Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Alappuzha districts in the past 24 hours. Considering the spread of COVID-19, the authorities have opened separate camps for different categories of the flood affected people. In Ernakulam district, 1,203 flood affected people have been shifted to relief camps. While 1,118 people have been lodged in general relief camps, 67 senior citizens are in camps for those above 60 years of age. Eighteen people are staying in the camps set for quarantined people, district administration officials said. The DGCA has started a <keyword id="9791572" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="special-safety-audit">special safety audit</keyword> of all Indian airlines, around two weeks after the plane crash in Kerala's Kozhikode in which 18 people were killed, a senior official of the aviation regulator said on Thursday. "It will be a complete FOQA (<keyword id="7878913" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flight-operations-quality-assurance">Flight Operations Quality Assurance</keyword>) audit," he said. The FOQA is the process of obtaining and analysing all kinds of data from flights to improve the safety and efficiency of future flight operations. "All Indian airlines will undergo the special safety audit that has begun. In the first phase, we are auditing SpiceJet and Air India," the DGCA official said. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has already initiated the special safety audit of all airports in India that receive heavy rain during the monsoon season, another official said. The announcement regarding the safety audit of such airports was done by the DGCA four days after the Kozhikode plane crash. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) manages more than 100 airports in the country, including the one in Kozhikode. However, major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are managed by private companies. On August 7, a B737NG aircraft of Air India Express with 190 people on board overshot the runway and crashed at the Kozhikode airport amid heavy rain, killing 18 people, including the pilots. Air India Express is a wholly owned subsidiary of national carrier Air India. The two leading pilot unions of Air India on August 13 had sought a meeting with Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to discuss matters related to working conditions and flight safety. "Our pilots are constantly facing the challenges of COVID-19, monsoon weather, ill-designed flight duty time limitations (FDTL), several extensions and dispensations given by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation)," stated the August 13 letter written to Puri by the Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA) and Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG). Civil aviation regulator DGCA to begin special safety audit of all Indian airlines after Kozhikode crash

Indian flyers were shown in poor light during an investigation by the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=UAE&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">UAE</a> aviation authorities. The preliminary reports while probing the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flight+EK-52&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">flight </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flight+EK-52&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">EK-52</a>1 incident, which burst into flames minutes after landing that was flying from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kerala&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Kerala</a> to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Dubai&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Dubai</a> on August 3 with 282 passengers, of which were Indians, indicated Indians did not follow the instructions at all. 
 As per the reports, during the crash landing, Indians on-board the flight created <keyword id="62689" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mayhem">mayhem</keyword> and grabbed their hand baggage, even after cabin crew told them not to. 
 According to the preliminary report by <keyword id="3656425" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="UAE-General-Civil-Aviation-Authority">UAE General Civil Aviation Authority</keyword>, passengers were carrying their handbags despite being told not to, during the crucial time of evacuation. The report however, didn’t named Indians openly, but it was quite clear with the line, “with 80% of flyers on the plane from the country.” 
 
According to the report, "The cabin crew members stated that when the aircraft got impacted and slid along the runway, passengers started to unfasten their seatbelts and stand up. An announcement was made for the passengers to remain seated. When the aircraft came to rest, some passengers were screaming, grabbing their belongings, and asking the cabin crew members to open the doors." 
 
"The cabin crew members followed the operator's safety instructions that prohibit passengers taking their carry-on baggage during an evacuation, and they instructed the passengers to leave their bags behind. However, several passengers evacuated the aircraft carrying their baggage. Footage of the evacuation showed a number of passengers outside the aircraft with their baggage," the report adds. 
 It’s normal human behavior to panic in such situations. But several crew members and pilots of Indian carriers say Indians as <keyword id="149113" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flyer">flyer</keyword>s have absurd behavior. However, those who fly for the first time are not much of a problem compared to the frequent “Desi” flyer. 
 According to a pilot "The behavior of scores of frequent flyers is also not good. They hanker for free liquor so much that crew has to firmly deny them more drinks. Their behavior with the crew is also not appropriate as they can be rude to <keyword id="1263067" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="airhostesses">airhostesses</keyword>."
