<ul class="summary-list"><li>Honda has unveiled the N-VAN e, a tiny electric truck costing from $15,500.</li><li>The diminutive truck is targeted at delivery companies and goes on sale in Japan in October.</li></ul><p>Japan is famous for its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiny-evs-byd-seagull-cars-transport-china-us-2024-5">tiny vehicles</a>, known as <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/japans-best-selling-ev-nissan-sakura-car-drivers-review-photos-2023-11">Kei cars</a>, which are well suited for navigating the narrow streets of crowded cities like Tokyo.</p><p>The country's best-selling electric vehicle last year was the Nissan Sakura, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nissan-sakura-tiny-car-is-japans-best-selling-ev-2023-10">a $13,000 electric Kei car</a> that outsold EV giants like Tesla, according to data from auto industry groups compiled by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-23/the-top-selling-ev-in-japan-isn-t-a-tesla-but-a-13-000-kei-car">Bloomberg</a>.</p><p>Now, Honda is getting into the tiny EV game. The Japanese automaker has <a target="_blank" href="https://global.honda/en/newsroom/news/2024/4240613eng-n-van-e.html">unveiled the N-VAN e</a>, a miniature electric truck that starts at 2.44 million yen ($15,500).</p><div type="image" title="Honda N-VAN e" height="1414" width="2211" msid="111001143" hostid="261"></div><p>It comes as Japan lags behind the rest of the world in transitioning to EVs. Just <a target="_blank" href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Automobiles/Japan-EV-sales-hit-record-high-in-2023-but-with-slow-growth">2.2% of new passenger cars</a> sold in Japan in 2023 were electric, according to data from industry bodies, compared to 25% in EV pace-setter China, per <a target="_blank" href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Automobiles/Japan-EV-sales-hit-record-high-in-2023-but-with-slow-growth">Nikkei</a>.</p><p>Honda's electric truck will be targeted at delivery and construction companies rather than ordinary consumers. The company is already <a target="_blank" href="https://global.honda/en/newsroom/news/2023/p231019beng.html">trialing</a> the pocket-sized truck with logistic firm Yamato.</p><p>The EV will have a range of 152 miles and will be able to charge in 30 minutes with fast charging, Honda says.</p><div type="image" title="Honda N-VAN e" height="1127" width="2254" msid="111001148" hostid="261"></div><p>Honda has also attempted to solve the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-ev-batteries-drain-faster-dont-last-long-cold-weather-2023-8">issues EVs have in hot and cold temperatures</a>, installing <a target="_blank" href="https://www.honda.co.jp/N-VAN-e/webcatalog/performance/#ecology">a battery cooling and heating system</a> to ensure it remains at a stable temperature.</p><p>The company says the N-VAN e will also function as a mobile power storage device, with drivers able to use the truck's external power outlet to charge household appliances such as hot plates and electric kettles.</p><div type="image" title="Honda N-VAN e" height="1068" width="2136" msid="111001147" hostid="261"></div><p>The N-Van can seat between one and four people, depending on which style the buyer selects; each option varies in price. The truck is expected to launch in Japan in October.</p><p>Separately, Honda announced it would establish a new company in partnership with <a target="_blank" href="https://global.honda/en/newsroom/news/2024/c240613aeng.html">fellow Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi</a>.</p><p>The new joint venture, Altna, will aim to lower the cost of electric vehicles and extend the lifetime of EV batteries.</p><div type="image" title="Honda N-VAN e" height="1361" width="2137" msid="111001144" hostid="261"></div><p>Like other Japanese automakers, Honda was slow to get into the EV game.</p><p>However, it is now racing to electrify, investing<a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/25/honda-to-build-11-billion-electric-vehicle-hub-in-canada.html"> $11 billion in a Canadian EV hub</a> and pledging to have <a target="_blank" href="https://global.honda/en/sustainability/cq_img/report/pdf/2022/Honda-SR-2022-en-016-018.pdf">80% of its vehicle lineup be EVs by 2035 and 100% by 2040</a>.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The 11-foot-long Nissan Sakura is Japan's best-selling electric vehicle, data from Bloomberg shows.</li><li>The $13,000 "kei car" has left rivals such as Tesla in the dust.</li></ul><p>Tesla may dominate the global EV market — but for drivers in Japan, a $13,000 tiny car is proving a better investment.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-23/the-top-selling-ev-in-japan-isn-t-a-tesla-but-a-13-000-kei-car"><u>Data compiled by Bloomberg</u></a> shows the Sakura — a $13,000 minicar developed jointly by Nissan and Mitsubishi — is the best-selling electric car in Japan this year, accounting for about half of all EVs sold in the country so far this year. Bloomberg reported that the cost of the vehicle included government subsidies.</p><p>The Sakura launched last year and has quickly become a phenomenon in its home country, winning Japan's car of the year in 2022. The 11-foot-long car has a <a target="_blank" href="https://global.nissannews.com/en/releases/release-62f323df4b615e03378855c905038929-nissan-unveils-all-new-all-electric-minivehicle-in-japan">range of 180 kilometers</a> on a single charge and can get up to speeds of 130 kilometers an hour.</p><div type="image" title="The interior of a car." height="1668" width="2500" msid="104674378" hostid="261"></div><p>With 35,099 vehicles sold this year, the Sakura has far outperformed its rivals — including Tesla. The automaker, owned by Elon Musk, may dominate the EV market in the West, but in Japan, its larger passenger cars lag behind smaller electric vehicles, which are known as "kei cars."</p><p>It makes for a more challenging market for Tesla, which slashed prices of its Model 3 and Y electric cars in Japan earlier this year. The Chinese EV giant BYD, backed by Warren Buffett and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-03/tesla-sales-drop-sees-byd-close-gap-in-race-for-ev-supremacy"><u>closing in on Tesla</u></a> globally, also <a target="_blank" href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Automobiles/China-s-BYD-starts-EV-sales-in-Japan-as-it-chases-Tesla"><u>started selling its cars in Japan</u></a> in January.</p><p>Kei cars are extremely popular in Japan, especially in rural areas with little public transport. But relaxation isn't as easy as it looks.</strong></p><p>"I've had a number of clients tell me they don't know what they do for fun — they don't know what that is anymore," Alexis Haselberger, a time management coach, told me. "So many people have lost their hobbies."</p><p>So time-management experts shared some steps you can take to find a new activity you enjoy.</p><p><strong>Treat finding a hobby like a project</strong></p><p>You likely won't find the perfect fit immediately, Laura Vanderkam, the author of "168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think," told me. It'll likely take some time to find the right activity for you.</p><p>"On some level, that's kind of a funny thought process. But why not give yourself six to 12 months to figure out what you truly like to do for fun?" What do you wish you had more time for? What did you enjoy doing in college — or even high school?</p><p>"Just do a five-minute brainstorm of all the things you used to enjoy when you were a child," Haselberger said. "And then try to find an adult corollary to what those things are."</p><p>For example, if you enjoyed drawing as a kid, maybe try watercolor painting. Or if you liked playing outdoors, maybe try a recreational sport.</p><p><strong>Ask people what they do</strong></p><p>Ask those around you — friends, family, colleagues — what they do for fun. Or if they're also trying to find a hobby, ask what the people around <em>them</em> do for fun.</p><p>Try out the activities that people around you enjoy doing, Vanderkam suggested. And even if you don't like it, you might meet people there who share — or invite you to — other activities you might enjoy.</p><p><strong>Take classes</strong></p><p>Haselberger said she's a big fan of classes to see whether you like something. And if you do, you can go deeper into it.</p><p>Although some might cost money, businesses and local libraries occasionally offer free classes to try out different activities.</p><p><strong>Be patient but proactive</strong></p><p>Vanderkam told me that finding a hobby just takes a bit of time, experimentation, and being open to different things.</p><p>"If you are patient with yourself, I think that over the course of six to 12 months, you can certainly find something that you genuinely want to do," Vanderkam said. How to find a hobby

<ul class="summary-list"><li><strong>Last week, </strong><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doordash-tips-orders-take-longer-arrive-food-faster-slower-delivery-2023-11"><strong>DoorDash warned</strong></a><strong> customers that no-tip orders might result in slower food deliveries.</strong></li><li><strong>Some drivers say the prompt is one way DoorDash is asking customers to subsidize driver wages.</strong></li></ul><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doordash-tips-orders-take-longer-arrive-food-faster-slower-delivery-2023-11">DoorDash is putting pressure on consumers</a> to tip with a new prompt. It's causing a backlash among some drivers and consumers.</p><p>Last week, some customers on DoorDash received an alert when trying to place an order without a tip: "Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered — are you sure you want to continue?"</p><p>Some Dashers, or drivers, said the new prompt was another example of DoorDash asking customers to subsidize driver pay.</p><p>"The consumer is pushed to subsidize continuously lower base fares by DoorDash over the past few years," Sergio Avedian, an industry advocate in Los Angeles for gig drivers, said. "Pay me what I'm worth. Don't just go around and ask other people to take care of your business."</p><p>Other food-delivery drivers interviewed by Insider also complained about the no-tip prompt.</p><p>"They're trying to still get orders delivered, but they don't want to be the ones to have to pay anymore," Zach Snider, a DoorDash driver in Washington, said.</p><p>Snider hosts a YouTube channel, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaHt-yLmFwM">ZachDrivesFast</a>, where he provides tips on how to earn money as a food-delivery driver.</p><p>A New Jersey multiapp driver who goes by the name<strong> </strong><a target="_blank" class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-uerMMTR93p3-qhDE-56VQ">Kim'ssidemoneyplans</a> on YouTube said if DoorDash paid Dashers a fair base wage, "we wouldn't even be having this conversation."</p><p>DoorDash did not respond to questions about drivers' concerns.</p><p>It also declined to provide Insider with current base-pay figures for drivers.</p><p>Previously, the company has said base pay generally ranges from $2 to $10 an order, depending on variables such as the order's estimated duration and distance.</p><p>DoorDash did say that Dashers were earning more today than ever before. With tips and base pay, Dashers on average make $25 an hour on active deliveries, DoorDash said.</p><p>A Dasher in Orange County, California, who spoke on condition of anonymity but whose identity is known to Insider said his earnings had plummeted over the past five years. And DoorDash pressuring customers to tip has not helped his earnings, he said.</p><p>Since the announcement of the no-tip warning last week, he's noticed a drop in tips, he said.</p><p>"It's pretty crappy that they're turning on us," he said of DoorDash. "I do feel like the customer should tip us a bit better. But at the same time, DoorDash should pay us better."</p><p>Since launching the pilot test of the warning screen, DoorDash said, "we've seen a meaningful decrease in no-tip orders."</p><div type="image" title="DoorDash is piloting a no tipping warning with customers. The prompt tells consumers orders might be slow with no tips." height="1233" width="1208" msid="105185004" hostid="261" sizebytes="66888"></div><h2>DoorDash customers say the app, not them, should pay delivery drivers better wages</h2><p>Some consumers are also complaining about DoorDash's new tipping prompt.</p> <p>A TikToker with the handle <a target="_blank" class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@blogto/video/7296572399670250757?q=doorDash%20no%20tip%20order%20warning&amp;t=1699552186134">blogTO</a> posted a video about the prompt, which logged nearly 296,000 views and generated more than 2,000 comments. Companies need to pay their employees properly. Tips are supposed to be optional for good service."</p> <p>"I think it's crazy that they're requiring you to pay a tip in order for you to get it in the time that you want," another <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@theofficialangelt/video/7296552759552216363?amp%3Bt=1699558681883&amp;q=doordash%20tipping%20delay%20deliveries">TikToker, who goes by the name theofficialangelt</a>, said.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/foodtech-startups-delivery-restaurants-industry-recession-2022-11#chris-baggott-dan-mcfadden-and-meredith-sandland-cofounders-empower-delivery-7">Meredith Sandland</a>, an industry veteran and a cohost of the "<a target="_blank" href="https://open.spotify.com/show/54fojAo7kT3qX0zyKbIi3A">The Digital Restaurant" podcast</a>, also questioned the motive behind DoorDash's no-tip warning this week.</p><p>She suggested the fees DoorDash collects per order, such as from restaurants or consumers, might be decreasing despite the app increasing orders 24% to 543 million in its latest quarter.</p><p>"That would imply that maybe they're using discounts in order to grow those orders, and when you couple that with, 'Hey, consumers, can you please foot the bill for our drivers,' doesn't feel great," Sandland said during her latest podcast episode, which she cohosts with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/foodtech-startups-delivery-restaurants-industry-recession-2022-11#carl-orsbourn-chief-operating-officer-juicer-10">Carl Orsbourn</a>.</p><p>Drivers interviewed by Insider have consistently complained this year that their <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/instacart-cuts-minimum-base-pay-for-drivers-2023-7">base pay has been slashed</a> since the pandemic, when orders surged and apps provided lucrative delivery incentives. Customers also tipped better during the pandemic, drivers have said.</p><p>The no-tip warning screen is the latest gratuity reminder the company has implemented. In June, <a target="_blank" class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doordash-tip-nudges-latest-example-importantance-tipping-gig-workers-2023-8">DoorDash started sending tip "nudges"</a> to customers, reminding them that they could increase tips for 30 days after a delivery.</p><p><a target="_blank" class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-uerMMTR93p3-qhDE-56VQ">Kim'ssidemoneyplans</a> said the last time she saw a base-pay order above $5 on the DoorDash app was in 2018.</p><p>She doesn't accept $2.75 order offers with no tip. From Maruti to Nissan, from Hero to Havells, from cotton to cement– everyday products are set to get more expensive in India

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Since being announced in 2012, the much-anticipated <keyword id="4395289" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="cyberpunk-2077">Cyberpunk 2077</keyword> video game will finally launch on December 10.</li><li>It's a massive open-world game, and getting around will require a car or motorcycle.</li><li>Business Insider spoke with Paweł Breshke Czyżewski, a senior vehicle concept designer at <keyword id="2847945" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="CD-Projekt-RED">CD Projekt Red</keyword>, and learned that the team behind the cars used a lot of real-life aspects when designing them for the game.</li></ul><p>Since <a href="https://www.kotaku.com.au/2020/12/cyberpunk-2077-timeline/">being announced in May 2012</a> - and after <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cyberpunk-2077-delayed-launch-new-release-date-december-10-2020-10">multiple delays</a> - December 10 will finally see the launch of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/cyberpunk-2077">Cyberpunk 2077</a>, one of the most anticipated <keyword id="25195" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="video-games">video games</keyword> in recent memory. And there will be cars in it. Good cars.</p><p>An action-filled, open-world role-playing game, Cyberpunk was created by Polish video-game developer CD Projekt Red. It's the same company behind the wildly popular and award-winning <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/witcher-3-game-of-the-year-awards-photos2015-7">The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt</a>. </p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_Ride_through_the_night_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593724" hostid="261"></div>Except instead of riding around medieval forests on a horse named Roach, Cyberpunk is set in the dystopian and futuristic megalopolis, Night City. There are six regions to visit, so in order to traverse the expansive map - as well as engage in races - you'll need some wheels that can be stored <a href="https://www.pcgamesn.com/cyberpunk-2077/garage">in your in-game garage</a>. <p>Fans have been waiting for the game's release for eight years. To say that it's been hyped is an understatement; it promises to be one of the greatest role-playing-games ever made, with slick graphics and an expansive, beautifully rendered world for players to explore. Players' choices in the game affect its storyline and outcome. As a result, there will be <a href="https://screenrant.com/cyberpunk-2077-multiple-endings/">several endings to the game</a> depending on past decisions made.</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_Hello_stranger_RGB en" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593725" hostid="261"></div>Console and PC gamers alike can rejoice, because the it will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Google Stadia, and PC.<h2><strong>Retro-futurism</strong></h2><p>Like everything else in the game - from the weapons, the fashions, the people, to the technology - the cars and motorcycles found in Cyberpunk will all exhibit incredible detail and design. </p><div type="image" title="screen high speed high stakes en" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593727" hostid="261"></div>And the primary guiding aesthetic? "Retro-futurism sums up our designs very well," Paweł Breshke Czyżewski, a senior vehicle concept designer at CD Projekt Red, told Business Insider. "Our vehicles have details that make reference to futurism but they are not so intrusive. Instead, they feel like a logical part of the world.<p>"We didn't want that kind of out-of-this-world futurism, which includes small spaceships in place of cars."</p><div type="image" title="Rayfield Caliburn" height="1080" width="1920" msid="79593729" hostid="261"></div>This is why the cars in Cyberpunk will still be recognizable as cars; they'll have four wheels, a steering wheel, a speedometer, a gearbox. But they'll also have futuristic twists, such as the inclusion of sonar, lidar, mirrors with built-in monitors, and large, screen-filled dashboards that display extremely detailed information.<p>There will also be self-driving and autonomous options, but those "remain reserved for selected luxury models only the richest can afford," Czyżewski said. <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/lanceeliot/2019/09/10/will-only-those-with-wealth-and-fame-have-access-to-self-driving-cars/?sh=10c6ad0045a0">Kind of like how things are now</a>! </p><div type="image" title="Quadra Type 66 Avenger" height="1080" width="1920" msid="79593730" hostid="261"></div>That idea of class differences is further manifested in how the cars look. "The majority of cheap vehicles are asymmetrical and have devices in the form of lidars or lights attached clunkily to the body - the result of car owners making DIY 'improvements' out of necessity," Czyżewski said.<p>To square with the dystopian future of 2077, the cars will also have roof-mounted license plates. Czyżewski said that small details such as these reflect the effort the team put into making the cars feel like they truly belong in the Cyberpunk world. The license plates, for example, are so air-bound police who use autonomous vehicles can easily identify them from above.</p><h2><strong>Driving in Night City</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_City_Center Keep_me_in_the_loop_2 RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593731" hostid="261"></div>Driving in Night City will "feel believable," Czyżewski said, but he insisted that the team did not set out to make a driving simulator like iRacing or the Forza Motorsport series. Cyberpunk will have tanks, heavy-duty trucks, cars, and motorcycles available to players and each will feel unique in their handling and control. Each vehicle will have its own story.<p>"We wanted players to have full control over handling regardless of vehicle class and have a different experience driving each type," Czyżewski said. "For example, you'll be able to feel that an SUV is more heavy and clunky to drive, while a sporty coupe is much faster, more precise, and more responsive."</p><h2><strong>The catalog of cars</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_911_screenshot_03_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593733" hostid="261"></div>Though Czyżewski declined to answer how many cars and bikes will be featured in the game, it seems like there will be a lot. One of the game's coolest inclusions will be the 1977 <keyword id="45673" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Porsche">Porsche</keyword> 930 Turbo - one of the most iconic and coveted 911 models for car enthusiasts. The car will be 100 years old in Cyberpunk 2077, and supposedly <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a34406001/1977-porsche-930-turbo-cyberpunk-2077/">it is the only car in the game that'll be based on a real car</a>.<p>The 930 Turbo is especially fitting, as it hails from the 1980s - the start of Cyberpunk's history. It is, as an emailed press release claims, "a link between the Cyberpunk universe in 2077 and our world today." Everything, from the body to the interior and the engine, has been completely reproduced on a 1:1 scale.</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_911_screenshot_05_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593734" hostid="261"></div>Adapted - much like all the other cars - to suit the game's reality, the Porsche has a front-mounted lidar attachment, electronic mirrors, interior monitors, and sensors that can be used to identify those air-bound police vehicles. It wears a red-and-white stripe along its side, a nod to the Porsche 911 RSR Le Mans endurance race car.<p>The 930 Turbo will be closely connected to one of Cyberpunk's main characters: Johnny Silverhand, who is modeled after and portrayed by none other than <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8_JEaoYcOs">Keanu Reeves</a>.</p><div type="image" title="You_look_like_youve_seen_a_ghost en" height="1563" width="2500" msid="79593736" hostid="261"></div>Other vehicles include the Quadra Turbo-R, which was <a href="https://jalopnik.com/cyberpunk-2077-looks-like-the-raddest-80s-supercar-futu-1826949555">featured in a game trailer from 2018's E3 conference</a>. It looks like a wedge-shaped, mid-engine car with exposed air intakes and a manual transmission (!). <p>Then there's the Yaiba ASMX Kusanagi motorcycle and the adorable Makigai MaiMai, a <a href="https://jalopnik.com/i-lived-with-a-japanese-kei-car-for-a-week-and-this-is-1829130212">kei-car</a> looking thing that appears to draw inspiration from <a href="https://jalopnik.com/tag/bubble-era">Japan's Bubble Era</a>. </p><h2><strong>Recreating for a virtual world</strong></h2><p>Replicating the cars virtually was a long and painstaking process.</p><div type="image" title="Thorton Colby Butte &quot;Shooting Brake&quot;" height="1080" width="1920" msid="79593737" hostid="261"></div>The team drew inspiration from various places, including real automotive design trends from the past couple of decades and other cyberpunk media, but put special effort into ensuring that the cars would always be identifiable as ones from Cyberpunk 2077. <p>"We had the idea of retro-futurism to guide us, as well as the aesthetic and styles that make up Night City," Czyżewski said. "When it came to taking inspiration from manufactured cars - and concept cars - we'd focus more on smaller elements and themes, adapting them, blending them, or putting our own twist on them in some of our cars.</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_911_screenshot_012_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593739" hostid="261"></div>"So, when we look at other cyberpunk influences, from ​Blade Runner​, for instance, we weren't necessarily taking that style and putting it into our game, but more figuring out how to design our cars in such a way that, one day, they can stand alone as iconic cyberpunk style cars that are distinctly ours."<p>Judging from the game's trailers and demos, textures appear to be a big part of the immersive world. After the team finishes researching and compiling a database of both real and concept cars that would inspire the cars in the game, they build a conceptual 3D model that includes the crucial details like the lidar, license plates, and sonar.</p><div type="image" title="Makigai MaiMai P126" height="1080" width="1920" msid="79593742" hostid="261"></div>After that, a designer transforms the vehicle into something that'll be later on used in the game. This is the step where the model is finished with all its appropriate internal parts. Reflections in the bodywork have to be checked over to make sure they look right.<p>Then come the chassis, the lights, and animations relating to entry, exit, destruction, and steering.</p><p>But to truly make the cars sound real, a specialized audio team used high-tech microphones and recording equipment to grab sound bytes of real engines, exhausts, and other internal parts (including the opening and closing of windows).</p><div type="image" title="Thorton Galena Nomad &quot;Gecko&quot;" height="1080" width="1920" msid="79593743" hostid="261"></div>The fourth episode of the game's video blog, "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcWf0pnbfLA&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;t=516&amp;ab_channel=Cyberpunk2077yberpunk2077">Night City Wire</a>," shows that the team rented out a race track and hired a professional race car driver to have them drive the cars around, hard, so they could pick up the full spectrum of sound. They recorded everything from muscle cars, off-road cars, drift cars, highly tuned V6s, to the V10 exhaust note from the Lexus LFA, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EigaoIHj2fo">one of the greatest-sounding cars ever made</a>.<p>Mechanics from a rally team were hired to help place microphones in places that aren't easily reached, such as in the engine bay and in the exhaust. </p><div type="image" title="Yaiba Kusanagi Tyger Claw Custom" height="1080" width="1920" msid="79593745" hostid="261"></div>Thus, even though the game is set in 2077, the cars will still retain internal-combustion engines and sound the way they do today. So don't be surprised when you hear a familiar noise coming out of a completely unfamiliar virtual car.<h2><strong>Squaring with the now</strong></h2><p>It's undeniable that today's automotive landscape is in a state of flux. Autonomous driving and electric cars are but some of the technology rapidly expanding to fill the space. We're now forced to think, more than ever, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-international-plans-to-combat-climate-change-with-evs-2020-12">about cars and their lasting impact on the environment and urban spaces</a>. </p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_Love_this_town_RGB en" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593747" hostid="261"></div><p>When designing a futuristic game, set in a megalopolis and with a heavy reliance on cars, this reality cannot be ignored.</p><p>"​It's obvious that the automotive industry is changing, and it has to change - it's inevitable," Czyżewski said. "Currently, we are in the middle of the greatest revolution in the automotive world and everything has an impact on it, from the economy to climate change. Similar to the real world, such aspects affect how vehicles look and function in Cyberpunk 2077."</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_The_road_is_closed_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593748" hostid="261"></div>It's hard to say where the future of cars will take us. Perhaps, Czyżewski guessed, everything will be AI-controlled and private car ownership will end. Instead, everyone will rely on public <keyword id="34991" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="transportation">transportation</keyword> that's handled by local municipalities.<p>Or, Czyżewski suggested, there might not be any public transportation at all, either because everyone will work remotely or because cities "will be so intelligently built that you could walk everywhere and vehicles would be used only to get out of the city."</p><p>"In such a scenario, cars we know today would exist only as a toy for the rich and there will be huge squares with roads especially built for them, where they will be able to feel the power of these classics," Czyżewski said.</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_911_screenshot_010_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593750" hostid="261"></div>Cars are inherently political. They always have been and forever will be. Everything about them - from their manufacturing, price points, design, what technologies they offer, who they are for, fuel-economy standards - are actions and reactions based on the world around them. <a href="https://www.thedrive.com/article/7450/listen-up-cars-are-part-of-politics-and-politics-are-part-of-cars">They do not exist in a vacuum</a>. <p>When creating and designing cars and motorcycles for Cyberpunk 2077, Czyżewski and his team kept this powerfully in mind. </p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_911_screenshot_011_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593753" hostid="261"></div>"We had to consider exactly how Night City functions, and what kind of transport different residents would need," he said. "We also wanted cars to reflect Night City's history, which is outlined by four art styles in the game: Kitsch, Entropism, Neomilitarism, and Neokitsch." <p>These styles are omnipresent, as evidenced in "cars, clothes, guns, [and] implants," according to this <a href="https://youtu.be/YlyDJVYqfpA">Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube video</a>. </p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_Can_you_fix_me_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593755" hostid="261"></div>Among the four, Entropism is the oldest and focuses on "necessity over style," according to <a href="https://www.gamesatlas.com/cyberpunk-2077/styles/entropism-style">Games Atlas</a>. <p>"This lifestyle was born when the Fourth Corporate War broke out," according to the website. "Vast and deep crises forced people to find ways to survive by any means necessary. Entropism represents the look of poverty that derives from humans grappling with and struggling against technology and its unforgiving advance."</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077 Catching_a_break RGB en" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593756" hostid="261"></div>Flashiness, bold colors, and eccentric makeup characterize Kitsch. "As society began to recover after the stock market crash, people looked for ways to brighten up the grey world they became accustomed to. Kitsch was a popular counter-cultural movement against the austerity of Entropism," <a href="https://www.gamesatlas.com/cyberpunk-2077/styles/kitsch-style">Games Atlas</a> says. <p>Neomilitarism is born from "global conflict" and "corporations jockeying for power," according to <a href="https://www.gamesatlas.com/cyberpunk-2077/styles/neo-militarism-style">Games Atlas</a>. Its entry on the website shows people dressed in cutthroat black outfits along with <a href="https://www.gamesatlas.com/cyberpunk-2077/vehicles/chevillon-thrax">a car apparently called</a> the "Chevillon Thrax" - a Rolls-Royce-esque limousine fit for a dystopian war zone.</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077 Sweet_ride en" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593757" hostid="261"></div>And finally, Neokitsch is for the obscenely wealthy and out-of-touch. <p>"Neokitsch is for celebrities, braindance stars, business magnates, heirs to corporate fortunes, and corporate executives," says <a href="https://www.gamesatlas.com/cyberpunk-2077/styles/neo-kitsch-style">Games Atlas</a>. "They abandoned the cold, deadly elegance of Neomilitarism and returned to the roots of Kitsch, but gave it a fresh, new look. This is the look of the ultra-rich appropriating the surface-level aesthetic of Kitsch without acknowledging its cultural motivation, warping it into a statement of abject wealth."</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_911_screenshot_015_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593758" hostid="261"></div>"Cars that were manufactured in each era are a reflection of design philosophies and production realities of said era," Czyżewski elaborated. "So, Entropism cars are noticeably less elegant in their design and feature poorer quality materials because Night City was in a particularly rough state during that time.<p>"Neokitsch cars, on the other hand, are ultra-luxurious and reflect the immeasurable wealth of those who flaunt this style - a minuscule percentage of the population."</p><div type="image" title="Cyberpunk2077_911_screenshot_018_RGB_EN" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593760" hostid="261"></div>These ideas were no doubt inspired by real-world situations, such as <a href="https://www.autonews.com/article/20131014/GLOBAL/131019959/10-ways-the-1973-oil-embargo-changed-the-industry">how the oil crisis in the 1970s</a> crumbled the US domestic car market and accelerated sales from Japanese and European automakers, or how celebrities own <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kylie-jenner-luxury-car-collection-bugatti-rolls-royce">multimillion-dollar vehicle collections</a> while the average American drives a 12-year-old car.<p>Though it is a fictional game set nearly 60 years in the future, Cyberpunk 2077 does appear to address the social and class anxieties that very real societies struggle with today. It's clearly reflected in the choice of cars and their role in Night City. </p><div type="image" title="screen a mercenary on the rise en" height="1406" width="2500" msid="79593762" hostid="261"></div>The game even goes as far as to suggest that there will still be a reliance on fossil fuels decades from now - a future that may very well be our own, even if skyrocketing EV stock prices might have us convinced otherwise. <p>But as for how we get around in Night City? Cars are the main attraction.</p>

Ideas are the vital fuel of <keyword id="94495" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Innovation">innovation</keyword>, and few in business or elsewhere would argue against the fact that innovation matters now more than ever.<br />
 <br /> <keyword id="6407546" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="CEOs">CEOs</keyword>, academics and politicians can be heard waxing lyrical about the need for innovation in this or that company, industry or even national economy. But why does innovation matter so much in today’s business world? The answer is surprisingly simple. Innovation is where the worlds of business and creativity meet to create new value. It really is as simple as that.<br />
 <br />
Indeed, one definition of innovation is “the creation of new value.” The word innovate first appears in the mid-sixteenth century. It comes from the latin “innovat” meaning “renewed, altered,” from the verb “innovare” – from in (into) and novare (make new). In other words, innovation is all about finding new ways to change things. What makes this all the more relevant today is that we live in a world where we are constantly demanding new value from the products and services we consume.<br />
 <br />
Think about it. When did you last buy a new phone that boasted “the same old tried and tested technology,” or a car that proclaimed itself “just as good as before”. The fact is that our ancestors might have been persuaded with claims of constancy and old-fashioned consistency, but we demand more. Blame it on fickle consumers if you will, or blame it on progress, but there is a continuous ramping up of our expectations, and this has led to a heightening of our expectations of innovation.<br />
 <br />
Companies are in the front line. And it isn’t just that the competition might add a new feature or button to an existing product. Commercial life can be positively Hobbesian, Nasty, Brutish. And, increasingly, short. Entire product categories can disappear overnight. Remember the VHS player? Remember the cassette recorder? Remember buying film for your camera? One of the biggest innovation challenges is dealing with discontinuous innovation. When technologies shift, or new markets emerge, or the regulatory rules of the game change, or someone introduces a new business model, many formerly successful organizations suddenly become vulnerable, some are soon consigned to history.<br />
 <br />
A key part of the problem is that dealing with discontinuity requires a very different set of capabilities. Organizing and managing discontinuous innovation requires searching in unlikely places, building links to new partners, allocating resources to high risk ventures, and exploring new ways of looking at the business. These are very different to the conventional and traditional approach to innovation.<br />
 <br />
Historically,  a company simply hired some very smart people, put them in an R&amp;D lab, and let them get on with it. That approach is no longer sufficient. After the Japanese company Fujitsu was acknowledged as having developed the world’s fastest supercomputer, we spent time talking to those involved with its development to learn more about the reality of innovation. The computer was nicknamed K, a play on the Japanese word ‘kei’ for the number 10 to the power of 16. It is a big number and a big build with a $1 billion development budget and over 1,000 people involved. Development began in 2007 and ended  in 2012 with the K being celebrated as the “fastest  of the fastest”.<br />
 <br /> We met with the managers and leaders involved in this huge project. We were struck by two things. First, the down-to-earth nature of those involved. The Fujitsu team were not classic <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword> material. They were neither hip nor cool. There were no jeans, not even chinos. No casual wear; in fact nothing casual at all about them. Indeed, when we met the overall project manager, he looked like a typical middle-aged Japanese corporate man wearing a suit with a waistcoat to stave off the Tokyo winter chill. Ordinary people involved in an extraordinary project.<br />
 <br /> The second thing that struck us was that despite their quiet and contained outward demeanour, these were men and women with a mission. We talked with Aiichirou <keyword id="314086" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Inoue">Inoue</keyword>, President of Fujitsu’s Next Generation Technical computing unit. When we spoke it was nearing the end of the project. The pressure was on. Inoue had been the driving force behind the company’s mainframe computer business for 27 years. Given his long service, Inoue could perhaps have been forgiven an air of ennui. In reality, he was a ball of creative energy, excited and under pressure in equal measure.<br />
 <br />
 “In my previous roles, I couldn’t do the things I wanted to do. I wanted to build something by myself, not just to use it, but to build it,” he explained. It was clear talking to Inoue and his colleagues that the innovative and groundbreaking K computer wasn’t an end in itself. There were many more important and motivational forces at work.<br />
 <br />
 “I want the young engineers working on this project to be excited and to enjoy their work,” said Inoue. “But, let’s be clear: the K computer will make the future for Fujitsu, Japan, and for human beings.  It will give us the ability to look at the weather of the future; and there are a huge number of healthcare uses. That’s what I mean about its power to change humanity. A computer is just a big box; what’s interesting is to see it as a tool to help mankind and societies around the world.”<br />
 <br />
We walked away from the Fujitsu team and started thinking again about innovation. What we had encountered challenged our easily held stereotypes and assumptions. We learned that innovation is not practiced in isolation. Nor is it the work of supermen and women, though much of what they accomplish is superbly world changing. Innovation is ordinary, but the results are extraordinary. Innovation changes reality, but is built from aspirations, dreams, ambitions, and visions. Innovation is vital.<br />
