The milk price, per litre, has been raised to Rs 40 from Rs 37, while curd will now cost Rs 48, against Rs 45 earlier. The special milk price, per litre, has gone up to Rs 46 from Rs 43, while <keyword id="181883" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="shubham" source="Orion">Shubham</keyword> milk will cost Rs 46, and Samrudhi milk will cost Rs 51. The farmers were demanding an increase in prices for a long time saying they are incurring more expenses as the fodder and grass have become dearer due to climatic conditions. Milk, curd prices go up by Rs 3 in Karnataka

Mumbai, Jan 23 () Karnataka Milk Federation on Thursday said it is aiming to invest Rs 100 crore per annum over the next five years to take its sales to Rs 25,000 crore from Rs 15,000 crore in 2018-19.
 The investments will be made in Karnataka and outside in both greenfield and brownfield expansion activities, an official statement said.

In order to give better quality food to children in schools where midday meals are provided, the HRD has revised its norms, that include milk as a necessary supplement. WCD Minister <keyword id="6612" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Smriti-Irani">Smriti Irani</keyword> on Monday assured Vice-President <keyword id="8563926" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="m-venkaiah">M Venkaiah</keyword> Naidu that the central government would consider recommending to all the states to "include milk in the midday meal scheme". Irani's assurance came after Naidu earlier in the day suggested to her to add milk in breakfast or midday meals of children to improve nutritional level. The Vice President spoke with Irani on the 3rd Rashtriya Poshan Maah aimed at contributing towards a malnutrition-free India. An official in the Education Ministry told IANS that all students from Classes 1 to 8 in all government schools will be given 200 ml milk every day along with the midday meals. As per the official, this policy as is similar to the one issued in 2016 and then HRD Ministry direction to states in 2018 in which many loopholes were reported in its implementation. The states were earlier also directed to include milk and milk products in the midday meals so that these items could be procured from cooperative milk unions or federations. The Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Department also took up the issue with the state Chief Secretaries on December 15, 2017, requesting them to consider supplying milk and milk products through their network under midday meals scheme of the Centre. Karnataka, <keyword id="6355554" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhya-Pradesh">Madhya Pradesh</keyword>, Haryana, Puducherry, and Gujarat have confirmed supply of milk through schools but some states with higher surplus stocks of milk powder like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab are yet to decide in this regard. Almost two decades have passed since the midday meal became a part of the daily routine in government schools across the country. The central government had received complaints earlier on about inclusion of milk in midday meals. As per government norms, every child should receive 150-200 ml milk. However, there have been complaints that one litre of milk was mixed in a bucketful of water to serve to more than 80 children in a school in rural Uttar Pradesh. Milk to be 'integral' part of midday meal scheme soon

Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs <keyword id="19905411" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pralhad-Joshi" source="keywords">Pralhad Joshi</keyword> on Saturday said the Centre has taken the issue of <keyword id="20308204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="desecration" source="keywords">desecration</keyword> of famous <keyword id="23237741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tirupati-Laddu" source="keywords">Tirupati Laddu</keyword> seriously and will take the matter to its logical end. The Minister also said the allegations cropped up after the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) stopped using the <keyword id="23043868" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nandini-Ghee" source="keywords">Nandini Ghee</keyword> of the Karnataka Milk Federation. "We have heard a very serious allegation of adulteration in the auspicious Tirupati Laddu. The previous (<keyword id="19896313" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh" source="keywords">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>) government was using Nandini Ghee. Once they stopped using Nandini products, they started procuring Ghee from different sources. Since then, these incidents have taken place and the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has released the lab report as well," Joshi, who also holds public distribution portfolio, told reporters here in Hubballi. He said the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is an important politician of India and a good administrator and there must be facts when he has said so. "Now that the lab report has come out, a detailed investigation has to take place. Whoever has committed wrong should be punished. We will take is seriously and we will take this case to the logical end," Joshi said. "This is a question of the culture and faith of the country. Such betrayal is not good." The Minister insisted that the temple managements in Karnataka should also test the 'Prasad' served to the devotees in the temples from time to time. Meanwhile, former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka K S Eshwarappa alleged the role of foreign Christian missionaries during the tenure of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as Chief Minister. "Why this happened only during Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure? There is foreign Christian Padre's role. Jagan Mohan Reddy is a converted Christian," Eshwarappa said. Referring to these allegations for a very long time, the expelled BJP leader said the desecration of Tirupati Laddu was a conspiracy against the Hindus. Will take desecration of Tirupati Laddu to logical end: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi

The <keyword id="154680" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="fssai" source="Orion">FSSAI</keyword>'s branding directive for curd sachets with its Hindi name has not gone down well with DMK-ruled <keyword id="20154" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="Orion">Tamil Nadu</keyword> and opposition JD(S) in Karnataka, with both decrying attempts of "Hindi imposition" and TN saying "nahi to <keyword id="528772" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dahi" source="Orion">dahi</keyword>" (No to curd). <keyword id="6356629" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tamil" source="Orion">Tamil</keyword> Nadu's state-run Aavin has said it will not use the Hindi term 'Dahi' in its printed sachets, as directed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and that it would only stick to the Tamil word 'tayir' to denote the product. With the directive covering the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), which sells products such as milk, curd, ghee and sweets under the brand name <keyword id="6115" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nandini" source="Orion">Nandini</keyword>, JD(S) leader and former state Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy wondered if it was an attempt to 'hijack' Nandini products. While TN Chief Minister M K Stalin has slammed the move as an attempt to "impose Hindi", Dairy Development Minister SM Nasar admitted the government had received a letter asking it to implement the directive before August. The BJP's state unit also wanted the FSSAI to withdraw the notification. There is no place for Hindi in the State, Nasar said. The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, familiarly known as Aavin by its brand name, will stick to the Tamil word 'tayir' for its curd preferred by a majority of consumers in the State, a senior official said. The same has been communicated to FSSAI, the official added. BJP state unit chief K Annamalai said the notification was not in tandem with Centre's policy of promoting regional languages. "The notification released by FSSAI for the use of (the word) Dhahi in curd sachets produced by state-run cooperative societies is not in tandem with the policy of our Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi avl to promote regional languages. We want an immediate rollback of the notification," he said in a tweet. Meanwhile, DMK functionaries trended the Twitter hashtag "DahiNahipoda" (No to Dahi, go on) to oppose "Hindi imposition." The party's IT Wing Secretary TRB Rajaa was among those who tweeted so. On Wednesday, Stalin condemned the imposition of Hindi even in labelling curd and said those responsible for it would be "banished" from the southern parts of the country. On his Twitter handle, Stalin posted a news report on FSSAI directing Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to label curd as "dahi" prominently. The Bengaluru datelined report had said the FSSAI directed the KMF to use the Kannada equivalent for curd "mosaru" in brackets. "The FSSAI clarification on labelling curd has come recently after Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka milk federations sought usage of local names on the curd sachets," the report said. Also, Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation has been told by FSSAI that Tamil words "tair" or "tayir" could be used in brackets. Citing the report, Stalin had said, "the unabashed insistence of #HindiImposition have come to the extent of directing us to label even a curd packet in Hindi, relegating Tamil &amp; Kannada in our own states. Such brazen disregard to our mother tongues will make sure those responsible are banished from South forever." Meanwhile. former Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy took exception to include the term Dahi on the curd packets of Nandini, a popular brand of KMF. In a series of tweets, the JD(S) second-in-command called it 'Hindi imposition' on Kannadigas. "Knowing that Kannadigas are opposed to Hindi imposition, it is wrong for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to order KMF to print Hindi Dahi on the packet of Nandini probiotic curd," said. He said Nandini is the "property of the Kannadigas, the identity of the Kannadigas and the lifeline of the Kannadigas". "Despite knowing this, the ego of Hindi imposition has been displayed," he added. He alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his Mandya visit had said in a meeting that Nandini would be merged with Gujarat's Amul. There was no response from the Karnataka Milk Federation on the issue. Tamil Nadu says 'nahi to dahi' over Hindi name on curd packets

New Delhi, Feb 27 () FMCG majors HUL and Nestle have been jointly ranked first in the industry for their approach to nutrition in the 'India Access to Nutrition Spotlight Index'. They were followed by food and beverages major PepsiCo India, Britannia Industries and Coca-Cola India. The index is published by Access to Nutrition Index (ATNI) and hosted by Access to Nutrition Foundation, an international not-for-profit organisation. ATNI report is published once in every three years and this is the second edition of India Spotlight Index. India was selected as a spotlight country as it has a rapidly developing food and beverages sector, a statement said. The initiative is supported by the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation and the governments of the UK and the Netherlands. This season, 16 largest companies in India's food and beverage sector were assessed with the aim to encourage these companies to improve their nutrition practices, it added. The other companies were Amul, Mondelez India, Mother Dairy, Parle Products, AAVIN, Adani Wilmar, Emami Agrotech, Hatsun Agro Product, ITC, Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (Nandini) and Marico Limited. "ATNI sees food and beverage companies in India showing their commitment to provide healthy food and engaging in a dialogue on how to support India's Eat Right Movement," ATNI Executive Director Inge Kauer said. Lifestyle changes in India have caused a shift in consumer habits -- from the consumption of traditional food, to more urban food habits consisting of packaged and processed foods, high in sugar, fat and salt. "In fact, India is among the top 10 consumers of fast food in the world. This, coupled with the fact that India is set to become the third largest consumer economy, presents an enormous opportunity for food and beverage companies to make nutrition a core part of their business plans, and to adopt comprehensive, public and commercial strategies to address issues related to the double burden of malnutrition in India," she said.
