In 2022, it <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/economy/logistics/with-haifa-port-acquisition-adani-sets-its-eyes-on-opportunities-in-europe/article65643118.ece">won a joint bid</a> on the Israel government's tender to buy the Haifa Port for $1.2 billion.It also owns port assets in Colombo in Sri Lanka and the Port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.<h2 id="b168f51e-af17-4dfd-93ff-9422bbccd00f">Loosening China's grip</h2>India has long feared that China is surrounding its country with ports. The trade infrastructure in the Indian Ocean is often referred to as China's "string of pearls".China's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-spends-twice-us-but-belt-road-initiative-losing-steam-2021-9">Belt and Road initiative</a> (also referred to as the New Silk Road) involves buying up multiple ports across the world to build a sea route running from the coast of China through the major transit route of the Indian Ocean and the busiest maritime points of the Middle East, and ending in Europe.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/interactive/2023/china-ports-trade-military-navy/">According to the Washington Post</a>, the majority of investments in Chinese-owned ports have been made by companies owned by the Chinese government, which would make the Chinese Communist Party the biggest operator of the ports that fuel global supply chains.The <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cfr.org/tracker/china-overseas-ports">Council on Foreign Relations states</a> that China operates or has ownership stakes in at least one port in every continent except Antarctica. 92 out of the 101 ports were active as of 2023.The <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.ft.com/content/a7c2b2f6-e106-436d-a599-cfcc69d18b05">Financial Times</a> cited a report by the Qianzhan Industrial Research Institute stating that China invested at least $40bn in coastal port infrastructure between 2016 and 2021.It also showed that China has 76 port terminals able to support large ships carrying more than 14,000 20ft containers, while south and south-east Asian countries have just 31 between them.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.fortuneindia.com/enterprise/adani-kerala-to-fast-track-vizhinjam-port-completion-with-rs-20000-crore-investment/117536">Fortune India reported</a> that so far, 75% of India's transshipped cargo is handled by ports outside the country.The Adani Group wants to change that.<h2 id="f5591fc4-d44e-43a5-90bb-81fe08ef0678">Making India the world's factory</h2>The company has openly aligned its business interests with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's development agenda of making India the world's factory.Earlier this month, it welcomed the first mother ship in the first phase of its port in Vizhinjam harbor, a project undertaken with the state government of Kerala in India.Expected to reach completion in 2028, the seaport aims to handle up to half of India's container transshipment needs.According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Adani Enterprises, the group's main company, reported revenue of $11.6 billion in 2024, and Karan Adani's father, Gautam Adani, owns a 75% stake.The 62-year-old is worth over $80 billion and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gautam-adani-succession-planning-sons-nephews-take-over-retirement-handover-2024-8">announced his succession plan</a> on Monday — naming his sons Karan and Jeet and nephews Pranav and Sagar as heirs to the Adani Group.The Adani family have previously faced scrutiny for their close ties to Modi, and allegations of preferential treatment from the Modi government.The Adanis frame the association as a desire to improve the country, with the Chairman's Message on the Adani Group website promising to "foray into sectors where the country needs to establish a foothold," and affirming that they will "look at these opportunities as part of our national duty."

	In a report by ET, the company aims to expand in India’s port sector aggressively. The company is now looking for suitable sites to open more ports. Some of the states it aims to expand its presence in include Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Under him, APSEZ is aiming at establishing ports in at least four foreign countries close to India in order to create linkages with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Australian-court-tosses-out-Adani-coal-mine-challenge/articleshow/50184944.cms">Adani Group's Indian assets</a>.

"In the next 5 years, not only do we aim to double this capacity, but also transform these ports into industrial port cities," he said. "By developing industrial clusters at Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram and attracting industries, we will be able to reduce the logistics costs drastically, thus making these industries far more competitive globally." The group is also developing 15,000 MW of renewable power projects over the next few years across five districts of Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram. "Our other investments in the state include cement manufacturing units and data centres. Presently we do not have any cement manufacturing capacity in Andhra Pradesh. Hence, as part of our expansion plans, we will be setting up cement plants in Kadapa and Nadikudi with a total capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum," he said. Also, the group is working on developing a 400 MW of data centre in Visakhapatnam. "These projects will bring further employment opportunities and demonstrate our commitment to the sustainable growth of the state of Andhra Pradesh," he said. He praised Andhra Pradesh for its "excellent infrastructure, large manufacturing base, talented youth, and business-friendly environment." With the second longest coastline in India, the state has been recognised by the World Bank as the No.1 implementer of energy efficiency and conservation programmes. Turning to CSR work being done by Adani Foundation, he said "our footprint in the state of Andhra Pradesh is getting bigger as I speak on this occasion." "We are investing in education, healthcare, nutrition, access to potable water, sports and building an ecosystem of skilling and sustainable livelihood in the state. Our teams are executing programs in Nellore, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam districts. At present, we have invested over Rs 4200 crore and are touching over 180,000 lives and counting, in the state," he added. Adani to set up cement plants, data centre in Andhra Pradesh

It will result in APSEZ having a controlling stake of 75 per cent in KPCL from the CVR Group and other investors. This acquisition will accelerate APSEZ's stride towards 500 MMT by 2025 and is another step in implementing APSEZ's stated strategy of cargo parity between west and east coasts of India, <keyword id="76451" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani">Adani</keyword> Ports said in a regulatory filing. <keyword id="1033941" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karan-Adani">Karan Adani</keyword>, Chief Executive Officer and Whole Time Director of APSEZ said: "This transformational acquisition enables us to roll out world class customer service to an increased customer base and provide pan-India solution to them. Asia's second-richest man finally has a plan to hand over his company — but it's going to take a while

In the same quarter last fiscal, the net profit was Rs 1,577 crore. The company's consolidated revenue during the quarter grew one per cent to Rs 3,797 crore, as compared to Rs 3,746 crore in the same period last fiscal. EBITDA fell two per cent during the quarter to Rs 2,431 crore. Adani Ports' net profits decline by 6% in the third quarter of FY22

New Delhi, Dec 27 () Billionaire Gautam Adani's port-to-power Adani group has acquired majority stake in Snowman Logistics Ltd for Rs 296 crore to foray into cold chain logistics.
 Adani Logistics Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, signed definitive agreements to acquire 40.25 per cent stake in Snowman Logistics Ltd from Gateway Distriparks Ltd, the company said in a statement.
 Snowman is market leader in cold chain logistics with over 30 per cent of capacity amongst integrated organised cold chain service providers in India.
 The acquisition gives Adani Logistics platform to double its capacity in the next five years. The buyout is in line with the firm's strategy to move from port gate to customer gate.
 "The purchase price of Rs 44 per share represents a 8 per cent premium to the market price of December 27, 2019 and a 12 per cent premium to 60 day average," it said.
 As part of the transaction, Adani Logistics will make a mandatory open offer as per the Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeover Guidelines, 2011 for a maximum 26 per cent of the public shareholding in the Snowman Logistics.
 Acquisition is subject to customary condition precedents and expected to close by March 31, 2020.
 Karan Adani, Chief Executive Officer and Whole Time Director of APSEZ said, "The acquisition is in line with our strategy and vision to be a leader in providing integrated logistics services in India and moving from port gate to customer gate. Cold chain is key product in customer gate strategy given India's consumer driven demand. We will double the capacity in next 5 years. 
 "With focus on increase in utilization, higher realization from product mix and operational efficiencies, this vertical will help further improve returns of logistics business".
 Incorporated in 1994, Snowman Logistics is in the business of integrated cold chain logistics providing warehousing, distribution and value added services.
 With over 25 years of expertise, the firm is the largest organized player in the country with pan India presence operating 31 temperature-controlled warehouses at 15 strategic locations. The company infrastructure includes warehousing capacity of 1,04,343 pallets and 293 refrigerated vehicles.
 Adani Logistics has expertise in handling varied customer across segments like retail, industrial, bulk, break-bulk, liquids, auto and grain handling. It currently operates 5 logistics parks, 55 rakes, 400,000 sq ft of warehousing space, 5,000-plus containers, 0.9 million tonnes of grain silos and 9 inland waterways vessels.
 The company is targeting 15-plus logistics parks, 200-plus rakes, 5 million sq ft of warehouse space, over 15,000 containers, 2.5 million tonnes of grain silos and 25 inland waterways vessels by 2025, the statement said.
 Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), a part of globally diversified Adani Group, is the largest port developer and operator in India. Its 10 strategically located ports and terminals - Mundra, Dahej, Kandla and Hazira in Gujarat, Dhamra in Odisha, Mormugao in Goa, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and Kattupalli and Ennore in Chennai - represent 24 per cent of the country's total port capacity, handling vast amounts of cargo from both coastal areas and the vast hinterland.
