After conducting in-depth tests on 1532 mobile towers, experts on Thursday said that low-powered, non-ionizing radiation emitted from the cell towers has no ill effects on human health. Officials said that the North East Licensed Service Area (NE-LSA) of the Department of Telecommunications has tested 1532 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) from April to November this year and all the mobile towers have been found compliant as per DoT norms on electric and magnetic fields radiation. While addressing a webinar on electromagnetic radiations from mobile towers, Dr Tushar <keyword id="15608804" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kant-joshi" source="Orion">Kant Joshi</keyword>, Advisor, Ministry of Health and Director, OEM Programme, Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health, assured that "it has been found that low powered, non-ionizing radiation emitted from cell towers have no ill effects on human health" Referring to the scientific research, <keyword id="6157" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="joshi" source="Orion">Joshi</keyword> said that it becomes extremely essential to address the spread of misinformation and provide an authentic view of health concerns related to mobile towers. It is also important to be informed that no scientific or medical evidence is available to corroborate the argument used against mobile towers, he pointed out. Shillong-based Senior Deputy Director General of the North-East LSA Ravi <keyword id="6394938" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="goel" source="Orion">Goel</keyword> highlighted the need for telecom services in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> and pressed on the challenges faced by the stakeholders of the industry. "We are venturing into an age of hyper-connectivity where the government is making every effort to densify telecom infrastructure and telecom towers as these are the backbone of Indian mobile communications. "In order to magnify the efforts, it is important that the fear surrounding the theories about ill effects of <keyword id="874194" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="emf" source="Orion">EMF</keyword> radiations from mobile towers are addressed factually to dispel such misconceptions," Goel stated. Deputy Director General of North-East LSA (Compliance) A.K.Jain said that the government has adopted one of the most stringent emission standards for mobile towers in the world. He said: "We follow norms that are 10 times stricter than what has been prescribed by ICNIRP and recommended by WHO globally. DoT continuously monitors the EMF emission levels from towers across India and ensures compliance with the stipulated emission norms throughout the country." The experts in the awareness event also mentioned that unscrupulous companies, agencies and individuals cheat the public by promising them hefty monthly rental payments for the installation of mobile towers. Such fraudsters ask the public to deposit money in their personal, and companies' accounts under various names against security deposits, application fees, registration charges, stamp duty, and government tax under Telecom Act among others. Further, it was also highlighted that use of telecom services through SIM cards and signals of foreign service providers in Indian Territory violates the Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and persons involved in such types of acts are liable to punishment as per the act and other acts and rules. An official statement said that India holds the potential to lead the telecommunications technology sector across the globe. Misconceptions among a section of the population about the health hazards of EMF radiation should not override the factual information made available through scientific research. Eight High Courts of India have also upheld the same view and have delivered judgments that disprove all such unfounded fears and misguided activism that is posing a severe challenge to the overall growth and connectivity of the country, the statement said. Speaking to <keyword id="51916" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cnbc" source="Orion">CNBC</keyword>, he said that the time is ripe for the EV industry to instill a sense of confidence in consumers the way global automakers do by voluntarily recalling their vehicles over fire risks. "Manufacturing of (battery) cells isn't regulated. Battery management system needs to be strengthened. There has been a clear partnership between battery manufacturing and battery management," he was quoted as saying in the CNBC report. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister <keyword id="26680" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nitin-gadkari" source="Orion">Nitin Gadkari</keyword> has said that the EV fire incidents may have taken place due to higher temperature. A bench headed by <keyword id="3360108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Justice-D-Y-Chandrachud" source="Orion">Justice D.Y. Chandrachud</keyword> and comprising <keyword id="12007072" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="justices-surya-kant" source="Orion">Justices Surya Kant</keyword> and <keyword id="177282" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vikram-nath" source="Orion">Vikram Nath</keyword> said the court is not willing to entertain a petition 48 hours before the exam, as it will create chaos and uncertainty in the lives of the students who have already registered for the GATE-2022 exam. The bench was informed that over 9 lakh students are taking the GATE-2022 exam. The bench added that there is no overarching reason for it to exercise its jurisdiction under Article 32 of the Constitution, to supplant the duties and functions of the regulatory authorities who have taken a decision in connection with the schedule of the exam. The bench pointed out that now everything is opening up and it is not correct for courts to step into academic matters. The bench said: "We are not inclined to entertain a petition under Article 32...These petitions are accordingly dismissed." Advocate Satpal Singh, representing a petitioner, contended that many state governments have imposed a lockdown on weekends, and in this backdrop holding the exam is unfair and urged the court to defer the exam for a month. The bench told the petitioners counsel that some petitioners have moved before it and many others have already prepared for the exam. It pointed out that the exams were notified in August last year and 9 lakh are appearing for it, and 20,000 have signed an online petition. "Only authorities can look into this", said the bench. Justice Chandrachud queried the petitioners' counsel, "Look at the legitimacy of courts entering into these thickets. Just because some states have issues, how do we play with the careers of all students..." After a detailed hearing in the matter, the top court dismissed the pleas seeking postponement of the exam in the backdrop of third Covid wave. Supreme Court junks plea to postpone GATE-2022 exam

She has juggled between multiple roles internally, from research to marketing and Titan feels like her second home now. She moved to Titan’s jewellery brand Tanishq, as head of design, innovation and development in 2017. She has been helping the brand take its design game to the next level, despite not being from a design background. It is considered a valuable and strategic asset because it helps companies remain relevant in a world that is undergoing unprecedented change, connect with consumers at a personal level and stand out in a sea of competitors. According to Kant, Titan was the first brand in India to come up with innovative design solutions and trendy products. It was an era where watches served a functional purpose and Titan’s design team decided to disrupt the industry by launching watches as a fashion accessory. Today, designs are created not just keeping the aesthetics in mind but also the functionality of the product, which has helped the brand become the world's 5th largest watchmaker. Walking us through the process of product designing and development, Kant said, “There are three key aspects to our design process. The first is the consumer, for whom you are designing, what are the needs, what are our aspirations, what is the new thing we are going to bring to the table. Second is finding key trends. We are all influenced by trends in a very big way. And especially, the pandemic has changed long-held mindsets: our attitude, behaviour and actions are all influenced by trends. So it's very important for us to be constantly looking at how trends influence our categories. And third, and the most important thing is whenever we create a design, it is not just the product we create, we create a story, we create a narrative, and this whole thing is dependent on what we call the ‘Design Stories.’” Kant and her team are living the dream. They travel to different destinations to incorporate real-life insights into their product designs. They call it, ‘immersion trips’. She is required to spend time at various locations of India to bring in a new, immersive perspective into her product designs. However, her job is not all play. Every new product that Titan works on requires thorough research, diligent execution that pays equal attention to both ergonomics and style. A Chief Designer Officer is also required to supervise customer orientation and excel management skills. “We immerse ourselves in the theme, which could be online immersion, and if things are fine, we always believe in immersing ourselves in that particular situation. For example, if temple architecture or a palace is the inspiration, you really need to be there -- we visit these places, look at them, experience its touch and feel, try to understand the nuances, gathering all that could which could inspire an individual,” shared Kant. <div type="image" title="30" msid="81065805" hostid="261"></div> “After interpreting it, we consider various constraints that could affect the manufacturing and designing process: it could be the manufacturing or budgetary constraints, we bring the business reality into it. The team then comes back, ideates and decides on a design for a particular product, be it watches, eyewear, fragrances or jewellery. Then it is fleshed out in the form of a product, which is shared with the internal stakeholders. Then we look at the feedback, if there are any, and look at it from a marketing point of view: how differentiated it's likely to be, what is its purpose in the market, how is it going to take on competition, is it going to be an image builder, is it going to act to the core. So, there are a lot of things which go around it. And once it is accepted collectively by both the design team and our internal stakeholder, it goes into this process of development,” she added. To bring this vision into reality, Kant then supervises the development process which starts with 2D sketching, 3D drawings, 3D prototyping, matching the product with the original inspiration, designer’s vision and then marketing comes into the picture. At Titan, the amount of time invested in ideation and conceptualisation differs from category to category but generally takes about 2-3 months. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Evolving with changing times" text="Evolving with changing times">Evolving with changing times</cmsannotation> While design has always been a part of Titan’s DNA, the process itself has undergone a lot of change over the years. It has evolved from being a look-good factor to solving a problem for consumers. Walking us through design’s evolution, Kant said, “Fundamentally, if you look at design from a macro perspective, it was just considered a feel-good factor in the early days. It was not seen as an integral aspect, design was seen as something which is aesthetically good but the fact is design is much beyond aesthetics, it is not just something which looks good. The purpose of design is to solve problems today and looking good is a very important part of it but it has to function fabulously and meet with the user's needs. The whole thing about comfort, about safety about ergonomics is such an important part in design. For example, for jewellery, security also plays an important role -- how secure is it? Even a small thing can’t fall off.” <div type="image" title="32" msid="81065690" hostid="261"></div> Today, as gen-z and millennials prefer comfort over fashion, Titan’s design has also started expanding its product range. They prefer light jewellery and minimal watches. Titan has always tried to keep consumer research and trends at its forefront to stay ahead of the curve and cater to a wide set of audiences. On how a traditional company like Titan has evolved with time, Kant said, “As we progress, we will be catering to the alpha kids, kids of millennials and to the generation coming after that, because we are a company which keeps pace with the consumer. Consumer behaviour is constantly changing and that has an impact on what we create because we are very clear that we are creating for the consumer. So if you are talking about the millennials and the Gen Z, to whom the Fastrack Run caters to or it could be our Zoop, which will cater to much younger TG, it is all about keeping pace and understanding the consumer. So it comes easily because there are two things which are constantly changing, which is at the root of our process, consumer and trends. As long as we track them closely, we can create a product for anyone and anywhere.” There’s a lot of pressure on a Design Officer to bring in differentiation in each product launch. Kant says that finding the fine balance between differentiation and relevance is what will give any business success. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="COVID’s impact on product designing process" text="COVID’s impact on product designing process">COVID’s impact on product designing process</cmsannotation> Titan’s immersive trips have come to a halt after COVID. Consumers have become more price-conscious and started caring about the environment more than ever before. Titan is also focusing on minimalism, sustainability and well-being. On a fundamental level, Titan had to move its whole designing process online. Sharing how COVID impacted Titan, Kant said, “We are trying to approve products, get this whole piece done online and that is a shift and we’re all getting used to it. And moving forward, I'm sure we will see a lot of benefits in this particular process which we will adapt even when we come back to a normal situation. It could be in terms of cutting down on travel cost, cutting down on time, faster approvals, saving a lot of time, there’s clarity in decision, these are the plus points of possibly doing it online. We will take the benefits of this and incorporate it and come up with a hybrid way of working, which will work well for us.” <div type="image" title="titan Traq" msid="81065731" hostid="261"></div> Titan is also experimenting with more colours and trying to bring in self-expression and optimism in its pieces. At the same time, it is trying to offer its consumers a little comfort zone that takes them down a memory lane and reminds of better days. “From August to September last year, there was a lot more optimism and people were looking up to doing things. So if I were to talk from the lifestyle space, there's a little more color because people are waiting to breathe, open out and do things which we have not been doing for the last many months. This whole thing of expressing oneself is getting translated. So when I talk from a jewelry point of view, it's more of a little more of a color, a little more of a celebration, more of optimism, a little more of positivity, all of that is sitting there, which as we move forward, and as things also around us kind of become better is something which will certainly happen. And nostalgia is another big piece, which I see continuing for a while. So all of these will certainly have a big impact on what we create and how we design,” said Kant. Apart from creating trendy products for Titan, this year, Kant’s focus would be to stick to fundamentals and help her team navigate the challenges that COVID throws in their way. A lot of her teammates live alone or are feeling isolated and as a leader, she will focus on motivating the team, looking optimistically at the future, and really charging them up.

New Delhi, Jul 13 () Amid rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant on Monday said real-time data would be key in fighting coronavirus, as it helps in contact tracing which is essential for preventing further spread of the disease. Speaking at India Policy Forum 2020, organised by NCAER, Kant said government should actively put data in public domain as debate and discussions would help in taking right policy decisions. "Data on a real-time basis is very critical. We have been working for last year-and-half and our experience is that real time data is really the key. "In corona times this becomes even more important...My belief is that it will be very difficult to handle COVID-19 without huge amounts of increased testing and without contact tracing," he said. The Aarogya Setu app developed in Niti Aayog with participation of private sector is being used to detect COVID-19 hotspots and device strategy across the country, he added. He said the app was conceptualised and developed with private sector, but the basic intention throughout was use of data science and contact tracing in a big way. He said a lot of data is also being used in managing reopening of the economy. Stressing that data would also be critical in the post-pandemic world, Kant said various public-private partnership (PPP) data initiatives are being undertaken. He also informed that Niti Aayog is working on a National Data and Analytics Platform which will democratise data across the government. Stating that government should actively put out data before the public and academics, Kant said "that is the only way we will be able to make right policy decisions". Later, delivering the second T N Srinivasan Memorial Lecture, Pronab Sen, Program Director, International Growth Centre (IGC) India, suggested that the government should take decisions with speed to deal with the crisis of unprecedented nature as "wait and watch could be a bad strategy." At the moment, the government could rely on models based on available data and approximations, he said, adding that "corrections can be done later."
