The <keyword id="6355166" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india-meteorological-department" source="Orion">India Meteorological Department</keyword> (<keyword id="6366970" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="imd" source="Orion">IMD</keyword>) has predicted isolated <keyword id="13195" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rain" source="Orion">rain</keyword> with thunderstorms in many parts of <keyword id="20154" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="Orion">Tamil Nadu</keyword> from Monday to Thursday. Meanwhile, heavy rain is likely to lash <keyword id="243513" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kanniyakumari" source="Orion">Kanniyakumari</keyword>, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni, Erode, Nilgiris, Dharmapuri, and Salem districts. The IMD said that a cyclonic circulation over Tamil Nadu is the reason for the widespread rain in the state. Winds at a speed of 40-50 kph are likely to prevail over the Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar, South Tamil Nadu coast, and South West Bay of Bengal. On Tuesday, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places over Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Nilgiris, Salem, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, <keyword id="166382" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tiruchirapalli" source="Orion">Tiruchirapalli</keyword> districts. Heavy rain is also likely in Virudhunagar, Theni, Dindigul, Namakkal, Vellore, Krishnagiri, and Ariyalur. The IMD has warned fishermen against venturing into the sea. Farmers are also worried as heavy rains would destroy the Kuruvai crops in the delta districts of <keyword id="259057" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tiruvarur" source="Orion">Tiruvarur</keyword> and Thanjavur. However moderate rains are good for Kuruvai crops. Heavy rain in the past two days have led to water logging in <keyword id="6361828" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="coimbatore" source="Orion">Coimbatore</keyword> and Madurai. Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy in Chennai with temperatures ranging from 27 degrees to 35 degrees Celsius.

Chennai, Even as the <keyword id="20154" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="Orion">Tamil Nadu</keyword> has been maintaining that the <keyword id="8764262" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid" source="Orion">Covid</keyword> surge in the state is not fearsome, the public health department has warned the elderly people and those with co-morbidities to wear masks and not to move around in crowded places. While speaking to media persons, Director of Tamil Nadu's Public Health services, T.S. Selvavinayagam, said, "We advise the elderly people and those with co-morbidities to stay away from closed spaces and to wear masks and maintain social distancing when they are outside places." In the last 24 hours, Tamil Nadu recorded 493 fresh cases. With this, the total number of active cases in the state has reached 2876 cases. Among the active Covid-19 cases reported, 137 were admitted to hospitals, two were in intensive care units (ICUs) while 51 were administered oxygen therapy. The daily Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the state is 8.6. Chengalpattu and Kanniyakumari reported 12 and 11 TPR respectively while Chennai reported 10. Except for Ramanathapuram, Kallakurichi, Tenkasi and Villupuram, all other districts recorded fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours in Tamil Nadu. Chennai is the highest with 132 new cases followed by Coimbatore (43), Kanniyakumari (41), Chengalpattu (31), Tiruvallur (26) and Salem (23). Seven districts of the state reported fresh Covid-19 cases between 10 and 19 while the other districts reported in single digits. The TN health department has however said that there were no reasons to panic as the state has not witnessed any large rapidly rising clusters as was witnessed during the first three phases of Covid-19.
