Hum sab itne sadiyon se doodh, maida-vaida sab khaate aa rahe hain” (all these allergy tests are nonsense. We have been drinking milk and consuming flour for ages). While this may have been the young actor’s mostly harmless attempt at sounding relatable, gluten and <keyword id="20158013" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lactose-intolerance" source="keywords">lactose intolerance</keyword> is a real health concern for millions of Indians. And taking these tests is among the most recommended ways to understand and alter our diets. <h2>Gluten allergy is not new in India, gluten is!</h2>A gluten allergy, often referred to as <keyword id="22227619" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gluten-intolerance" source="keywords">gluten intolerance</keyword> or non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), is a condition where the immune system reacts negatively to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. Unlike celiac disease, gluten sensitivity does not cause damage to the small intestine, but it can trigger uncomfortable symptoms such as bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, fatigue and headaches after consuming gluten-containing foods — such as bread. When asked if more and more Indians were reporting gluten allergies, nutritionist Dr Meghana Pasi explained that it wasn’t entirely true. “An increase in the Indians’ wheat consumption was a result of colonisation”, she said. Most Indians primarily consumed millet before the British’s influence and wheat became a staple in our diets roughly between 50-100 years ago. And it has taken a few decades to associate the discomfort many feel after consuming wheat with a gluten allergy. So, claiming that gluten consumption is perfectly okay since people in the past did it too, is infact entirely inaccurate. <h2>A significant proportion of Indians are lactose intolerant</h2>After Janhvi implies that these allergies are a hoax, Saif attempts to correct her saying, “Hum jab bade ho jate hai to sab cheezein nahi khani chahiye, bacho ko khani chhaiye ( We should refrain from eating certain things when we get older; kids should eat all of this).” In response Janhvi says, "Main toh doodh peeti hun (I still drink milk).” Anecdotal fallacy again. Sigh. Lactose intolerance is a digestive condition where the body is unable to fully digest lactose, the sugar found in milk and dairy products. This happens when the small intestine doesn't produce enough of the enzyme lactase, which is needed to break down lactose into simpler sugars for absorption. As a result, lactose passes undigested into the colon, where bacteria ferment it, causing symptoms like bloating, diarrhoea, gas and stomach cramps. The severity of symptoms varies, depending on how much lactose a person can tolerate. This author, for instance, needs just one pizza slice to develop a terrible gastric headache that leads to violent episodes of puking. Regarding her claim that we have been consuming milk for ages, India has seen a notable rise in lactose intolerance as dietary patterns evolve. Studies suggest that one-third of Indians may have some degree of lactose intolerance due to genetic factors. Historically, the diet in many parts of India included fermented or low-lactose dairy products like yogurt and paneer, which are easier to digest. However, the growing consumption of milk-based products and <keyword id="20490015" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="processed-foods" source="keywords">processed foods</keyword> may be contributing to more visible cases of lactose intolerance. Furthermore, even without the intolerance debate, science has shown that humans’ capacity to absorb milk decreases as we grow old. By the time we’re in our mid-thirties, these problems can manifest as gastrointestinal problems like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and gastro-esophagal reflux disease (GERD). So, while Janhvi Kapoor's casual dismissal of gluten and lactose allergies may have been made in jest, it brought forth a good opportunity to discuss a larger issue of misinformation about <keyword id="23476473" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dietary-sensitivities" source="keywords">dietary sensitivities</keyword>. As allergies and intolerances become more widely understood and recognised, particularly in the Indian context, it’s important to acknowledge that the foods we’ve consumed for generations may no longer suit everyone. Of late, many celebrities like Janhvi, who boast millions of followers, have been caught spreading health-related misinformation intentionally or unintentionally. Kanika Kapoor tests negative for Coronavirus — but she’ll have to clear it one more time just to be sure

More than a month after testing positive for the coronavirus, singer <keyword id="1758842" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kanika-Kapoor">Kanika Kapoor</keyword> on Sunday said there have been several "wrong exchanges of information" regarding her travel timeline and battle with the disease. Kanika, who was the first Bollywood personality to test positive for the novel virus on March 20, came under attack for <keyword id="6357355" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Negligence">negligence</keyword> and not practising self-quarantine despite returning to the country from the UK amid the coronavirus pandemic. "I travelled from the UK to Mumbai on March 10 and was duly screened at the international airport. There was no advisory on that day (UK travel advisory was released on 18 March) that stated that I needed to quarantine myself. I showed no ill health so did not quarantine myself." The singer said she travelled to Lucknow to meet her family on March 11 and claimed there was "no screening setup for domestic flights". On March 14 and 15, Kanika said she attended a friend's lunch and dinner and clarified "there was no party hosted by me and I was in absolute normal health." However, on March 17 and 18, she developed symptoms and said she got herself tested on March 19. "On March 20 when informed that my test was positive, I chose to go to the hospital. I was discharged after there negative tests and have since been at home for 21 days. "I want to especially thank the doctors and nurses who have so graciously taken care of me during a very emotionally testing time. I hope that all can deal with this matter with honesty and sensitivity," she added. She has given her blood sample for testing at the King George's Medical University (KGMU) here, they said. "Singer Kanika Kapoor on Monday expressed her desire to KGMU doctors to donate plasma. After this, she was called and her blood sample was taken for testing. If everything is found appropriate in the report (of the blood test), she will be called on Monday evening or Tuesday to donate her plasma," Tulika Chandra, Head of Department of Transfusion Medicine, KGMU told . "So far, three COVID-19 patients, who have recovered from the infection at the KGMU, have donated their plasma. Convalescent Plasma Therapy is an experimental procedure for COVID-19 patients. In this treatment, plasma (a blood component) from a cured COVID-19 patient is transfused to a critically ill coronavirus patient.The blood of a person who has recovered from COVID-19 develops antibodies to battle against the virus.The idea behind the therapy is that immunity can be transferred from a healthy person to a sick patient using convalescent plasma. Once the blood plasma of the recovered patient is infused with that of the second patient, the antibodies start fighting against coronavirus in the second person's body.The process of donating plasma is similar to that of donating blood and takes about an hour. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had recently asked the state's medical authorities to promote plasma therapy for the treatment of COVID-19 patients after examining its efficacy. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has recently allowed states to start clinical trials of plasma therapy. Many states like Kerala, Gujarat and Punjab have already started using it for treatment of coronavirus patients. "I have tested positive for COVID-19. I have immediately isolated myself and will be under home quarantine. "I am following all safety protocols under the advice of my doctors. Grateful for all your love and support. Please stay safe and take care," the "Kalank" actor wrote. Bhatt had on March 11 tested negative for COVID-19 and resumed work after her actor-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor and filmmaker <keyword id="6358308" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjay-Leela-Bhansali">Sanjay Leela Bhansali</keyword>, who had been shooting for "Gangubai Kathiawadi" with her, tested positive. Kapoor last week tested negative for COVID-19 while reports suggest that Bhansali has also recovered from the virus. On Thursday, Mumbai reported 8,646 new coronavirus cases, its highest one-day rise since the outbreak of the pandemic. The city's overall caseload tally stands at 4,23,360. Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt tests positive for COVID-19

Mumbai, Apr 15 () Jewelery designer Farah Khan Ali has revealed that a member of her in-house staff has been tested positive for the coronavirus.In a Twitter post on Tuesday, Farah said the staff member was taken to a hospital post his COVID-19 diagnosis."COVID news spreads faster than the virus. An in-house staff of mine tested positive today and so am moving him to a facility. Have all tested all at home today as well and are going to be quarantined. Be safe yet strong. This too shall pass," she tweeted. In a later post, Farah, who is the daughter of Bollywood veteran Sanjay Khan, praised the local municipal body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the team of doctors for the way they dealt with the patient."Have to say the @mybmc and their docs in Mumbai is amazing with dealing with COVID patients. Continued uncertainties on capital raising resulted in two domestic rating agencies downgrading private sector lender <keyword id="45660" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yes-Bank">Yes Bank</keyword> on Thursday. The bank, which has had a tumultuous year since the RBI terminated the term of its co-founder chief executive <keyword id="128581" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rana-Kapoor">Rana Kapoor</keyword>, has not been able to make progress in its equity raising even after claiming that it has investors willing to pump in USD 3 billion. India Ratings said its downgrade on the bank's long-term issuer rating to 'Ind A' from 'Ind A+', accompanied by a rating watch negative outlook on three instruments, is due to "inadequate progress" on both the quantum and pace of equity infusions.
 The bank had last week said its board is favourably considering a USD 500 million funding offer from Citax Holdings, while a USD 1.2 billion offer from Erwin Singh Braich, a little-known Canadian investor of Indian descent, is still under negotiations.
 The rating agency said the capital is essential for taking the credit cost hit coming its way because of an accelerated recognition of bad assets initiated under new chief executive Ravneet Gill.
 "In the absence of improvements on the capital side, the ability of the bank to manage its asset and liability maturities might be tested further," the agency said, noting that is likely to face balance sheet expansion challenges in the short-to-medium term.
 The bank's low-rated assets will continue to slip into the non-performing assets category, and the need to set aside money for the same along with new slippages will constrain the profitability of the bank, which has shown reported losses in two of the three quarters in 2019.
 The capital constraints had resulted in a 7 per cent decline in the bank's loan book in the September quarter, and the prime reason cited by the management to expedite the infusion was to get into the business-as-usual mode.
 After claiming USD 3 billion of investor interest, the bank had informed that it is actively considering USD 2 billion of capital raise and also named the investors.
 "...clarity is awaited on the potential investors, quantum and the timelines. Furthermore, the various approvals that the bank and/or the investors may require could extend the timeline of the proposed equity infusion," it said.
 The agency appreciated the bank's efforts on the liability management.
 Its peer <keyword id="6354972" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="icra">Icra</keyword> also downgraded the bank's rating on various instruments and kept the outlook at negative for the same reasons. The agency said it will continue to monitor the capital raising, liquidity/funding profile and asset quality position of the bank, and warned that a continued weakening on the parameters will remain negative rating triggers.
 Despite the negative news on the rating front, Yes Bank's shares gained 6.74 per cent to close at Rs 49.90 apiece on the BSE, against a rise of 0.28 per cent on the benchmark. AA RAM HRS

The prayer meeting will be held after three days," Sukaina told PTI. Mourning her death, superstar Akshay Kumar said Khan made dance look easy and accessible. May her soul rest in peace," Akshay tweeted. Director Kunal Kohli, who worked with the choreographer on "Fanaa", remembered Khan as someone who stood up for people's rights. "She stood up for the rights of people. Never bothered who was a star or not. She said her bit unadulterated and from the heart. In a career spanning over four decades, Khan, who was known as Masterji, choreographed more than 2,000 songs. Khan's best work was with actors Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit, the prominent dancing stars of the 80s and 90s. Her parents migrated to India after the Partition. She started her career in the film industry as a child artiste at the age of three and later started working as a background dancer. The choreographer, who was born as Nirmala and later converted to Islam, learnt dance while working under film choreographer B Sohanlal. They got married when she was 13 and he was 41. It was Sohanlal's second marriage. Khan got her first break as an independent choreographer with Geeta Mera Naam in 1974 but it took Sridevi's Hawa Hawai song in 1987 film Mr India for her to receive acclaim as a dance choreographer of repute. There was no looking back for Khan after the success of the song. She choreographed Sridevi in films such as Nagina and Chandni . But it was her work with Madhuri Dixit that made her famous. Starting with Ek Do Teen in Tezaab , she choreographed Madhuri in Tamma Tamma Loge in Thanedar and Dhak Dhak Karne Laga in Beta and "Dola Re Dola" from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Devdas". She also choreographed Kareena Kapoor in "Ye Ishq Haaye". She last choreographed for "Tabaah Hogaye", featuring Madhuri from filmmaker Karan Johar's production "Kalank" in 2019.

Saroj Khan passes away at 71

Mumbai, Feb 12 () For the second time in two months, India Ratings (Ind-Ra) on Wednesday downgraded long-term issuer rating on certain debt instruments of Yes Bank to 'A-' from 'A' and also maintained it on the rating watch 'negative'. The rating agency also said it reflects the continued delay and inconclusive quantum of the anticipated equity infusion in the beleaguered bank.The downgrades are on three bonds worth Rs 25,680 crore, the agency said and said if the bank finalised the publicly announced fund raising plan by the end of the month, it could the same could be reviewed.The domestic agency had downgraded the struggling lender on December 19, 2019, while international agencies have been doing so since last May. In the latest round of rating actions, the domestic rater has downgrades three debt instruments of the mid-sized lender that has been struggling to raise core capital for months now--the Rs 11,000-crore Basel III tier 2 bonds, the Rs 11,100-crore additional Basel III tier 1 bonds, and the Rs 3,580-crore of infrastructure bonds. "Downgrade reflects the continued delay and inconclusive quantum of the anticipated equity infusion. We believe this can adversely impact the Yes Bank's franchise and potentially create challenges on asset and liability side," India Ratings said in a late evening statement.It can be noted that Moody's has downgraded the bank, which was once the top pick for many a brokerage, thrice in 2019 alone in June, August and November.After issuing two downgrade warnings since June 11, Moody's had on August 28, 2019 yanked down the private sector lender's rating with negative outlook, citing the lower-than-expected capital ratio and its inability to raise fresh capital. It downgraded its long-term foreign currency Ba3 from Ba1, which is below investment grade or junk citing delays in the USD 1.2 billion fund raising plan.Again on November 6, Moody's placed its ratings under review for downgrade, further confounding the pains for the lender that has been dogged by many an issue since the past one year.Moody's also sees the bank's total dud asset to top 12 per cent this year basing on bank's own assessment of over 40 per cent of its Rs 30,000-crore of exposure to lower rated entities turning sour before March.The bank has been passing through a tumultuous period ever since the Reserve Bank had in August 2018 asked the promoter-chief executive Rana Kapoor to leave the bank by January 31, 2019 over concerns on governance and loan practices, and his successor Ravneet Gill disclosing large under-reported stressed assets.Under Gill, the bank reported its maiden loss in the March 2019 quarter and the strain on asset quality continues with it reporting a rise in the gross non-performing assets ratio to over 7.6 in the September quarter.Noting that the bank also has a Rs 31,000 crore low rated book, wherein the its management expects a slippage of up to 40 per cent, the agency estimated the actual stressed pool to be at 12 per cent of the book, Moody's said in November.India Ratings said the required capital infusion is critical to provide sufficient cushion to the possible credit cost impact from the stressed asset pool on regulatory capital requirement in the short- and medium-term, as well as for the bank's ability to continue to serve its customers adequately."Although the liquidity position of the bank seems adequate as of end-September with a liquidity coverage ratio of 114 per cent, we believe that, in the absence of any swift capital raising, its ability to manage asset and liability maturities can get tested further," the agency said.The agency believes that raising sizeable capital in the very near-term can be challenging and can require various regulatory and other approvals. The rating can be reviewed towards end of the month, it added.It also warned of a modest possibility of the bank deferring coupon payments and a principal write-down as the bank has sufficient revenue reserve buffers.Citing the key downgrade drivers, it said delays in capital raising and also the uncertainty regarding the quantum and timing of the same as the biggest factor. It can be noted that Yes Bank had initially planned to raise capital of over USD 1.2 billion in FY20. Although the bank had announced plans of raising USD 2 billion of equity during the year, its board has rejected the binding term sheets of USD 1.2 billion offered by Canadian investor SPGP Group/Erwin Singh Braich early December.Additionally, the decision to consider the binding term sheet of USD 500 million by Citax Investment Group is yet to be favourably finalised by the board.As of Q2, the bank's CET1 adjusted for provision divergence was about 8.5 per cent against the published figure of 8.7 per cent. In addition to the CET1 being lower than most private sector banks (the median of about 12 per cent for private banks, it is accompanied by lower provisions on large corporate loans and stressed book almost 1.5x its gross NPAs.Furthermore, the bank's exposure concentration (top 20 exposures to the total equity) decreased to 2.3x in the first half of FY20 from 2.5x in FY19 and 2.16x in FY18, while the next highest concentration among private banks was 1.54x.Yes Bank stock tanked 4.5 per cent to Rs 35.20 on the BSE against the Sensex rallying over 0.80 per cent.
