He emphasized that Kamal Nath is, and will continue to be, a part of Congress. Singh also urged the media to refrain from propagating misinformation. "Kamal Nath is, was, and will remain in the Indian National Congress. As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Kamal Nath's side. On being asked about his plans to switch sides, Kamal Nath rejected all the claims, saying the media would be informed "if there is something." "Why are you all getting excited? It is not about denying. I will inform you all if there is something like that," said Kamal Nath on Saturday, while speaking to the media. Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar on Monday called the speculation about veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath and his son Nakul Nath switching sides to Bharatiya Janata Party 'rumours'. Singhar told on talks of the veteran to join BJP, "All of these are rumours. He (Kamal Nath) has never said that he is joining the BJP. He is a senior, former CM and an asset to the party. All the MLAs are with him. He (Nath) also has said several times that he is like a third son of Indira Gandhi. He understands it and is a very serious personality. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that "the entire country believes in PM Modi's guarantee and wants to join and support PM Modi's resolve to make the country developed and today's results clearly show this". "Digvijaya Singh and Kamalnath are just history now, they should be forgotten now, and the country must move on the path of development", he added. Exuding confidence over BJP's win in Rajasthan, Vaishnaw stated that "We will definitely win in Rajasthan as well. The public has given a clear verdict on the corruption and law and order problems in Rajasthan". As ECI results indicated a return to power, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan credited the double engine BJP government for the party's success in the state. Double-engine government properly implemented the schemes of the Central Government and the schemes that were formed here also touched people's hearts", he said. The Congress had hoped to win at least 20 seats in the bypolls but the trends indicate otherwise.The Congress had campaigned vigorously in the bypolls in a bid to return to power in the state. The party had to win at least 22 seats to remain in the numbers game but it had not crossed the double-digit figure if counting trends are an indication. Kamal Nath's hopes dashed as BJP takes lead in Madhya Pradesh bypolls

Bhopal, The <keyword id="21082883" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="scindias" source="keywords">Scindias</keyword>, the influential members of the erstwhile royal family of Gwalior, have moved effortlessly between different political parties when it comes to fighting electoral battles on their home turf and Union minister Jyotiraditya <keyword id="19905342" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="scindia" source="keywords">Scindia</keyword> will carry forward this tradition when he files his nomination as the BJP candidate from the Guna <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> seat in Madhya Pradesh. Five years after losing unexpectedly from Guna as the Congress candidate, Jyotiraditya Scindia, representing the current generation of the family in MP's politics, is back in the fray in his backyard, but this time as the nominee of his erstwhile political rival and with a different election symbol against his name on the EVM. The 53-year-old politician is the grandson of one of the BJP founders, Vijaya Raje Scindia, and son of former Union minister the late Madhavrao Scindia. The Guna Lok Sabha seat, part of the Scindias' home turf which also includes Gwalior, is spread across eight assembly seats in Guna, Shivpuri and Ashok Nagar districts. The Congress, looking to settle scores with Jyotiraditya Scindia in the poll fray after it lost its government in Madhya Pradesh following his exit exactly four years ago, is yet to name its candidate from Guna. It was a rare electoral shock for former Gwalior royals when the Union Minister for Civil Aviation faced defeat in 2019 at the hands of the BJP candidate and his old loyalist, KP Yadav, by a margin of around 1.26 Lakh votes. In 2024, Scindia is again testing electoral waters, but under the banner of a different party - the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - the political home to his parental aunts - former Rajasthan Chief Minister <keyword id="21082885" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vasundhara-raje-scindia" source="keywords">Vasundhara Raje Scindia</keyword> and ex-MP minister <keyword id="21082884" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yashodhara-raje" source="keywords">Yashodhara Raje</keyword>. But the Guna Lok Sabha constituency's history suggested the Scindias have never fought their first and last elections from the same party. The Union minister's grandmother, <keyword id="21082886" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajmata-vijaya-raje-scindia" source="keywords">Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia</keyword>, contested her first election from the seat in 1957 on a Congress ticket and won. She contested as the Swatantra Party nominee in 1967 then from the BJP in 1989. His father Madhavrao Scindia contested his first election from Guna on a Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS) ticket in 1971 and fought his last poll in 1999 as the Congress nominee before his death in a plane crash near New Delhi in 2001. The BJS is considered the forerunner of the BJP. Senior journalist, author and political analyst <keyword id="20445085" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rasheed-kidwai" source="keywords">Rasheed Kidwai</keyword> says the Scindias' political leanings seem to be settling down now. "After decades of consciously choosing divergent political parties, the house of Scindias is finally settling down as per their past and ideological leanings. The Sangh, Hindutva and right-wing has always been Scindia flavour in the monarchical era," Kidwai noted. The Guna parliamentary seat was represented by Rajmata Scindia for 6 times, while her son Madhavrao Scindia won it on four occasions. Besides Guna, Rajmata Scindia represented the Gwalior Lok Sabha seat, part of the family turf, once. Madhavrao Scindia was elected five times from Gwalior, once as the candidate of the Madhya Pradesh Vikas Congress, an outfit floated by him. Rajmata Scindia's daughter Yashodhara Raje also represented the Gwalior seat in the Lok Sabha twice for the BJP. Jyotiraditya Scindia has represented the Guna seat four times between 2002 and 2014, including after winning in a bypoll. A year after his defeat, he joined the BJP in March 2020 along with 22 Congress MLAs, leading to the collapse of the Kamal Nath-led government in Madhya Pradesh. The defeat of Jyotiraditya Scindia in 2019 was the second setback for the Scindias in the Lok Sabha elections. In 1984, the Union minister's aunt and former Rajasthan CM <keyword id="20004780" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vasundhara-raje" source="keywords">Vasundhara Raje</keyword> had faced defeat as the BJP candidate from the Bhind Lok Sabha seat. She was defeated by Congress candidate <keyword id="21082887" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="krishna-singh-judeo" source="keywords">Krishna Singh Judeo</keyword>, who belongs to the erstwhile royal family of Datia. The Guna Lok Sabha constituency has more than 18.80 lakh voters and it will go to polls in the third phase on May 7.

The Scindias: Moving seamlessly between parties in different elections on their home turf

New Delhi, Poll strategist <keyword id="4300245" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sunil-kanugolu" source="Orion">Sunil Kanugolu</keyword> has yet again proven to be the man with the Midas touch, plotting the Congress' amazing turnaround in Telangana months after being the architect of the grand old party's return to power in Karnataka. Starting with Prashant Kishor's I-PAC, Kanugolu was largely credited for shaping the Congress' win in Karnataka and was later accorded Cabinet rank in the Siddaramaiah government. This time, Kanugolu along with PCC chief A Revanth Reddy formed a formidable pair to chalk out the Congress' strategy to pull down the K Chandrashekhar Rao-led BRS government that was eying a third term in the southern state. The Congress was headed for victory in Telangana while it was staring at crushing defeats in the Hindi heartland states of <keyword id="6355554" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="madhya-pradesh" source="Orion">Madhya Pradesh</keyword>, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Kanugolu had also made forays in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh following a directive from the party's central leadership but regional satraps Ashok Gehlot and Kamal Nath reportedly were not on the same page as the poll strategist. Ahead of the Rajasthan elections, Kanugolu had made an assessment about the winnability of probable candidates but Gehlot reportedly did not agree to his suggestions and brought in Naresh Arora's Designboxed to construct the Congress government's narrative in the run-up to the assembly polls. Sources say that the success of Kanugolu in Karnataka and Telangana was the result of the free hand given to him and allowing his team to work freely. Kanugolu, who hails from Karnataka and is in his early 40s, has been considered largely as the brain behind the Congress' narrative in Karnataka with the 'PayCM' campaign against the BJP. In the run-up to the polls in Telangana, he highlighted the alleged corruption of the K Chandrashekhar Rao dispensation as part of Congress' campaign that seemed to have struck a chord with the people. The campaigns run by the Congress in Karnataka and Telangana have been very similar as both highlighted the alleged graft of the ruling dispensation and projected welfare guarantees that seemed to have struck an instant connection with the public. Interestingly, Kanugolu has also been involved in several BJP poll campaigns in the past. In 2018, he worked with the BJP in Karnataka and the party managed to become the single largest party with 104 seats. He had also worked on Narendra Modi's campaign in 2014, as well as the party's political campaigns in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Kanugolu, a former consultant with McKinsey, was also associated with DMK chief MK Stalin and oversaw the party's '<keyword id="3576832" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="namakku-naame" source="Orion">Namakku Naame</keyword>' (we are for ourselves) campaign during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In 2021, he also worked with AIADMK against the DMK and led the party to win 75 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Kanugolu had joined the Congress last year and worked closely with the Karnataka campaign. He is also credited with strategising <keyword id="5268" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rahul-gandhi" source="Orion">Rahul Gandhi</keyword>'s cross-country 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' from Kanyakumari to Kashmir last year. Having delivered Karnataka and Telangana to the Congress, Kanugolu is likely to be given more responsibilities by the party in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls.

As per the latest figures available from the Election Commission, the BJP was leading in 160 of the 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, while the Congress was ahead in 67 seats. Speaking to ANI, the minister also credited incumbent chief minister Shivraj for the results showing a comfortable lead for the party in the polls. "I express my gratitude to every single person of the state. This is the result of the BJP's double engine government, PM Modi's leadership, guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shahji, and party president JP Naddaji, and welfare schemes implemented by CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan...Ladli Behna scheme is a game-changer and the full credit for it goes to Shivraj Singh Chouhan," Scindia said. Scindia, a former Congress leader who switched over the party to come with the BJP in 2020, also took a swipe at the grand old party and said that his party did the work 'quietly' while the Congress was busy preparing Ladoos and congratulatory posters. "Congress was preparing Ladoos and congratulatory posters were put up. While we were doing our work quietly..." he added. As the counting of votes continues, the BJP has taken a comfortable lead in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, while also aiming to capture Chhattisgarh from Congress. Meanwhile, in Telangana, the Congress is poised to oust the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS government to wrest power in another southern state. The election to the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly was a fight between the BJP and the Congress, whose then 15- month government, formed in the year 2018 was toppled from power in 2020 with help from Jyotiraditya Scindia who defected to the BJP from the Congress. The BJP though had fielded three central ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Faggan Singh Kulaste to tackle the perceived anti-incumbency against Chouhan. Chouhan relied heavily on schemes for women like the '<keyword id="16283999" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ladli-behna-yojana" source="Orion">Ladli Behna Yojana</keyword>' under which Rs 1250 are being transferred monthly to eligible women from poor families in the state. Congress has described it as an election sop, implemented months before the assembly polls, the BJP leaders have said that it is in line with the party's work for empowering women. State Congress president and candidate from Chhindwara, Kamal Nath leading by a margin of 15,623 votes after the ninth round of counting, garnering a total of 57895 votes so far. Rajasthan: BJP makes a comeback The Bharatiya Janata Party is returning to power in Rajasthan having won 115 seats, as per the Election Commission of India. There are 199 Assembly seats in Rajasthan, and the halfway mark is 100. The Congress was in the incumbent party in the state. The beating of drums and dancing by BJP workers started early in Jaipur as official EC trends showed the party build lead. Rahul Gandhi-led Congress won 69 seats. Former chief minister and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje won from the Jhalrapatan seat. Among the other BJP candidates who won were Diya Kumari from Vidhyadhnagar, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore from Jhotwara, Samaram from Pindwara Abu, Govind Prasad from Manohar Thana, Jaswant Singh Yadav from Behror, Mahendra Pal Meena from Jamwa Ramgarh, Anita Bhadel from Ajmer South, and Madan Dilawar from Ramganj Mandi. The Congress candidates who secured victory included Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot from Sardarpura, Sachin Pilot from Tonk, Shanti Dhariwal from Kota North, Tikaram Jully from Alwar Rural, and Anita Jatav from Hindaun. Madhya Pradesh: BJP returns The ruling BJP looks on course to retain power in Madhya Pradesh. As per the latest figures available with the Election Commission, the BJP was leading in 163 of the 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, while the Congress was ahead in 66 seats. Many party leaders attributed the electoral success to PM Narendra Modi, who addressed as many as 14 poll rallies in the state. The state Congress office bore a deserted look. MP Congress president Kamal Nath and senior party leader Digvijaya Singh were in the office, holding discussions with party functionaries. In Budhni assembly constituency, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan of BJP defeated Vikram Sharma of Congress by over 1 lakh votes. Polling in the single-phase elections on November 17 saw an impressive turnout of 77.82 per cent, surpassing the 2018 voting percentage of 75.63 per cent. The state electorate voted for 2,533 candidates in 230 constituencies. There were 5.59 lakh eligible voters. Chhattisgarh: BJP back in power Chhattisgarh, witnessed a close fight between Bharatiya Janata Party and the ruling Congress party in the early hours of counting, as per the trends by the Elections Commission of India. The BJP crossed the halfway mark by winning 54 seats Out of the total 90 constituencies, the Congress won 35 seats The Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) bagged one seat, as per the Election Commission. In the 2018 assembly polls, the Congress had won 68 seats and the then ruling BJP 15. The Janata Congress Chhattisgarh had won five segments. Much ahead of the elections this year, the Congress declared that the state would procure 20 quintals of paddy per acre from farmers in this kharif season. Ahead of his possible resignation, Chief Minister <keyword id="53973" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uddhav-thackeray" source="Orion">Uddhav Thackeray</keyword> started making 'final calls' after his emotional challenge to the rebels previous evening that he was ready to quit the post (CM) as well as <keyword id="110829" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shiv-sena-chief" source="Orion">Shiv Sena chief</keyword>, here on Thursday. Simultaneously, alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party (<keyword id="42402" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ncp" source="Orion">NCP</keyword>) state President and Minister Jayant Patil ruled out the possibility of the CM's demitting office and expressed optimism that the political crisis would be defused. On Wednesday evening, Thackeray addressed the state via social media and expressed his readiness to step down from both crucial posts provided the rebels led by Minister Eknath Shinde come to meet him and say they don't want him to continue. However, Shinde promptly spurned the CM's offer, reiterating his pre-condition that the Shiv Sena must first walk out of its Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance government with the NCP and Congress. Hours after that, late on Wednesday, Thackeray and family packed up their bags and left the CM's official residence 'Varsha' at Malabar Hill and returned to the family home, 'Matoshri' in Bandra. Prior to that, he also held meetings with NCP President Sharad Pawar and NCP state chief Patil, Congress leaders including state President Nana Patole and central leader Kamal Nath, besides other senior Sena leadership. Thackeray is scheduled to address an online meeting of all top Mantralaya bureaucrats this day ostensibly to express his gratitude for their cooperation and contributions during the 30-month tenure of the MVA regime. The political suspense continued with Sena MP Sanjay Raut claiming in Mumbai that "around 20 MLAs" from the rebel group were in contact with the party leaders, besides the 15-odd currently in Mumbai. "About 20 MLAs are in touch with us... When they come to Mumbai, you will get to know. We will reveal soon under what circumstances and pressures these (rebel) MLAs left us," declared Raut. NCP's Patil expressed hope that the rebels would return to the Sena fold and ensure the continuation of the MVA government for which Thackeray is making all efforts and the other allies are fully helping out.
