It was expected that Ishan could retain his place, given his youth and experience with the franchise. Aged just 26, he had spent seven seasons with the franchise and did reasonably well. However, after being brought for Rs 15.25 crores ahead of 2022 season, the price tag seemed to have caught up with Kishan. In next 44 matches for the franchise till the 2024-season-end, Kishan scored 1,192 runs in 43 innings at an average of 28.98, with just seven fifties. While these numbers are not bad, it could be debatable that he did not deliver as per expectations, with 19 scores being below 20. In the 2024 season, he could score just 320 runs at an average of just over 22, with just a fifty to his name. After being excluded from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) central contract this year after not participating for red-ball cricket, this is another big setback for Kishan, who has not been considered for international cricket despite participating and doing well in red-ball tournaments like Buchi Babu Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy recently. <h2>DC era 2.0 on cards?</h2> With wicketkeeper-batter and biggest superstar of the franchise, Pant released from the franchise and looking for a new franchise as per several media reports, Delhi Capitals could be moving to their 2.0 era, placing trust in young, under-the radar names like Axar Patel (235 runs with two fifties and 11 wickets in 2024), Tristan Stubbs (378 runs with three fifties and three wickets), Abhishek Porel (327 runs with two fifties) and Kuldeep Yadav (16 wickets at an average of 23.25) after good performances last year. Franchise has also released big time stars like David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw. Could this be the start of a new era for DC? Only time will tell. <h2>Shreyas Iyer joins unfortunate list of captains</h2>The IPL winning captain Shreyas Iyer has been let go after winning the title for his franchise KKR this year, their first in a decade and overall third. While many argue his batting stats of 351 runs in 14 innings with two fifties at a strike rate of 146.86 could be a reason behind his release, the other half of the story is that the in-form KKR top-order did not leave the middle-order with much to do. His recurring fitness issues, which caused him to miss 2023 season, also could be a reason. Irrespective of what the reason could be, one thing is for sure, Iyer is up there with likes of Adam Gilchrist (released by Deccan Chargers in 2011 after title win in 2009, semifinal finish in 2010), David Warner (released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of 2022 season despite 2016 title win and multiple playoff finishes) as one of the most unluckiest captains in IPL. <h2>Strong faith in Indian uncapped/inexperienced stars</h2>The franchises have been extremely bold this time around, opting to release experienced, household Indian/overseas names and placing their trust in several Indian uncapped/inexperienced players. Out of a total of 46 players retained across all franchises, 36 players are Indian. Out of these, 10 players are uncapped Indians stars. These players are Abhishek Porel, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Shashank Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Yash Dayal. Also, out of other 24 capped Indians, 13 players have played less than 30 international matches and eight have played 10 or less international games for India. Of these 24 uncapped players, no one has all format experience for India and only two have Test cricket experience, Dhruv Jurel and <keyword id="20022019" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajat-patidar" source="keywords">Rajat Patidar</keyword>. The only player that came closer to the trio was Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik, who made 796 runs in 44 matches and 42 innings at an average of 29.48, with three fifties. If RCB had Virat-AB de Villiers-Chris Gayle in 2010s, KGF dominated the RCB batting numbers in 2020s. When RCB starts rebuilding their side from scratch in the auction, they would have a huge task in hand of finding one or two highly popular, capable and consistent foreign stars to help Virat unleash the carnage in a "Play Bold" avatar. Also, with the Rajat Patidar being retained for 11 crores, RCB might have made it clear that he could be the next big Indian batter the franchise invests in. Jadeja, Rahul ruled out of second Test against England

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the remaining three Tests of the five-match series against England, with star batter <keyword id="19918530" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="virat" source="keywords">Virat</keyword> <keyword id="19899436" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kohli" source="keywords">Kohli</keyword> set to miss the remaining matches as well due to personal reasons. Virat had earlier missed the first two Tests. Now, his absence is extended to three more games. His last appearance came in the T20I series against Afghanistan earlier in January. "Virat Kohli will remain unavailable for selection for the remainder of the series due to personal reasons. India squad for remaining England Tests announced, Virat set to miss entire series

<keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s unalloyed dominance at home over the last 12 years will be put through its most unique examination till date when <keyword id="13937" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rohit-sharma" source="Orion">Rohit Sharma</keyword>'s side faces a trend-defying <keyword id="19903600" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="england" source="keywords">England</keyword> in the first match of what promises to be a stirring five-Test series from Thursday. No team has been as invincible as India at home since their 1-2 defeat against the Three Lions led by Alastair Cook in 2012, stitching together a bull run of 16 successive series wins, including seven series sweeps. If one further breaks down the stats, India have lost just three Tests out of 44 they played in their own backyard in this phase, and this is a power walk even beyond the all-conquering West Indies in the '80s or Australia of the turn of the century. Several factors have contributed to this astonishing run over the last decade, including favourable pitches, bowlers who knew how to exploit those tracks and batters who churned out runs like popcorn from a vending machine. But two players have stood head and shoulders above the rest in these conquests -- off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja. From Thursday, the Ash-Jaddu duet will be on show here at the RGI Stadium, where the pitch is expected to turn and grip as the match moves towards its conclusion. England already have a taste of what these two can do from their past visits here, and they will be worried, particularly about Ashwin. The 37-year-old still retains the burning zest of a 17-year-old to keep improving his craft and since 2012, Ashwin has grabbed 283 wickets from 46 Tests averaging a shade over 19. Jadeja might often get viewed as a supporting act to Ashwin, but in his own right, the Saurashtra man is a potent threat, and his deliveries that dart on straight could confuse the batters on a turner. Jadeja has taken 191 wickets from 39 Tests in the period where Ashwin kicked up a bedlam in opposition ranks to ensure that they don't get breathing space from both the ends. Together, they have bagged 500 wickets at an average of 21. In all likelihood, India will also include a third spinner to the combination in the form of either Axar Patel or Kuldeep Yadav, with the former having a better chance at the moment. England will be aware that no amount of preparation involving scruffing up pitches some 1600 miles away in Abu Dhabi will be enough to tackle this real menace, and in that sense, they will also need to tame the demons inside their own minds. What could work for them is that India will not have the presence and solidity of Virat Kohli at No. 4, as he has skipped the opening two Tests owing to personal reasons. He is a towering presence against England in <keyword id="9400" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="test-cricket" source="Orion">Test cricket</keyword>. The star batter has made 1991 runs against them from 28 matches with five hundreds, but more than the numbers, his ability to master grand occasions will be missed. Middle-order batter Rajat Patidar is expected to join the squad as a replacement for Kohli for the Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam matches, though India's No.4 and 5 will be Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul with KS Bharat doing the wicket-keeping duties. Despite their talisman's absence, India is still a tall hurdle for the 'Bazball-ing' England to cross over. Of course, they have won a Test series in Pakistan 3-0 in late 2022 but a set of proven match-winners offer the visitors a far tougher challenge here. The whole furor over the return of young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir after the delay in processing his Indian visa too might have disturbed them ahead of an important fixture. Skipper <keyword id="6369580" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ben-stokes" source="Orion">Ben Stokes</keyword> has already stated that he is "devastated" for the 20-year-old rookie. But this is not to say that England are totally incapable of pulling off a miracle. Under Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum, they have been able to dish out a really fascinating brand of cricket. Notwithstanding that, the visitors need more than one element to come together for a meaningful fight -- big runs from veteran Joe Root and Stokes, a few wickets upfront from the ever-green James Anderson and their spinners who have no significant experience in these conditions. On the periphery, it is asking for too much. But Test cricket is a strange and unpredictable beast and it has the history of producing some truly extraordinary spectacles. Will Hyderabad offer one or will it be an all too familiar Indian romp? The wait is on. Facing must-win scenarios, the two-time champions showed tremendous resilience to bounce back into reckoning after their wins over Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, both in dramatic last-ball finishes. The wins have not only boosted their sagging morale but also taken the side to sixth place from eighth on the points table. As things stand, four teams including <keyword id="6354544" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kkr" source="Orion">KKR</keyword> and Rajasthan Royals, are locked on 10 points in a mid-table traffic rush for the playoffs. RR may be ahead on net run rate (NRR) but the equation could change quickly if KKR continue their winning run, as a victory for either side will take them into the top-four. While KKR are high on confidence after two thrilling wins, the Royals - last season's runners-up - would be at their lowest ebb after three defeats. The Royals had posted 200-plus totals but were done in by some baffling strategies in two of their three losses, which has led to a must-win scenario for them as well. In terms of key battles and team strategies, KKR would once again rely on Varun Chakravarthy, who has been the central character in both their previous wins. Having defended nine runs in the last over against SRH, Chakravarthy's 3/26 made all the difference against Punjab Kings. At a time their seasoned slow bowler Sunil Narine is finding it difficult to get wickets, Chakravarthy has emerged as KKR's spin spearhead with 17 wickets so far this season. While KKR's think-tank refuses to give up on Narine who has just one wicket in the last eight matches, it's Chakravarthy's four overs which would again be crucial. It remains to be seen if KKR utilise the services of a "fit-again" Shardul in the crunch match. The Jamaican was at his vintage best when he demolished Sam Curran with three sixes in a match-flipping 20-run penultimate over. While skipper Nitish Rana has been the backbone of their batting, Rinku's emergence as a finisher is coming off well for the team. From the Royals' perspective, the trio of Rana, Rinku and Russell would be their main threats. Chennai Super Kings: Devon Conway became the second-highest scorer for Chennai Super Kings after Michal Hussey. Rashid Khans' performance has been on another level with him racking up 27 wickets at an average of 20.44, an economy of 8.24 and a strike rate of 14.89, the second highest after his GT teammate Mohammed Shami and his best bowling effort was 4/30. He also racked up 130 runs at an average of 32.50. Mumbai Indians: <keyword id="496245" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="suryakumar-yadav" source="Orion">Suryakumar Yadav</keyword> emerged as the top batter for five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Yadav scored a total of 605 runs at an average of 32.17 and a strike rate of 181.14. Despite a slow start in the beginning he scored runs in the latter half of the season with a single century and five half-centuries and 103* being his highest score. Financial data reviewed by Business Insider shows Knotel had substantially missed sales targets as recently as the fourth quarter of 2019 and had accrued hundreds of thousands of square feet of vacant space months before the economic crisis touched off by the coronavirus began. That may make it especially vulnerable to the downturn sweeping across the flexible-workspace industry.Knotel was, until recently, one of the fastest-growing brands in the booming coworking and flex-space field, emerging as a chief competitor to WeWork.Covid-19 has upended the soaring sector as small businesses, startups, and entrepreneurs that flooded into flexible workspaces in recent years have shed those locations or have stopped paying rent, leaving companies such as Knotel, in turn, with less cashflow to pay landlords.Several sources with direct knowledge of Knotel's 2.5 million square feet of space in New York said the company hasn't paid rent for the month of April at several locations, including spaces at 40 Exchange Place, 5-9 Union Square West, and 61 Broadway. The sources said it is still possible the company could avoid missing the payments by settling the outstanding rent bills before the close of the month.The cutoff of money is potentially painful to landlords. The Moinian Group, a large Manhattan property owner, for instance, is both an investor in Knotel and one of its largest landlords, hosting Knotel locations at several of its office buildings, including 545 Fifth Avenue, 60 Madison Avenue, and 90 John Street.The landlord's chief executive, Joseph Moinian, declined to comment on whether he stood to lose money from his investment into Knotel's business and whether the company was still paying rent at locations within Moinian's portfolio.<h2>Flex-space providers are looking to cut costs as space sits empty</h2>Knotel is one of several major workspace brands that have sought to cease hemorrhaging money by cutting back - or abandoning - their rent obligations. Convene, a workspace and conference company, is also cutting rent payments it makes to landlords across its portfolio, according to an investor in the company."Convene is working with all landlords individually and on a case-by-case basis," a spokesman for Convene said.And WeWork has sought to renegotiate leases in its over 7-million-square-foot portfolio in New York in order to reduce its rent burden, according to<a href="https://www.ft.com/content/78dbfb03-f47d-41f3-9bf6-6696e5ef626b"> media reports</a>. Businesses of all kinds have sought to hold back commercial rents as social distancing rules have prevented many from occupying their office space. Landlords, which are currently prohibited by a New York state moratorium from evicting both residential and commercial tenants, have urged office occupants to continue to pay.Because of the widespread economic dislocation from the crisis, it is expected that many owners, however, will be flexible with late or discounted payments rather than pursue wide-scale evictions."Given the unprecedented times we are witnessing due to the effects of Covid-19, the Knotel team is focused on balancing the interests of customers, partners, and investors, in efforts to build a sustainable, long-term business," Ivy Chiou, a spokeswoman for Knotel, said in a statement. "We are taking these steps to ensure we are well-positioned for both current times of great crisis, as well as when business returns to a new normal.Chiou said the company would not confirm whether it had suspended rent payments, nor whether it was current on its rent in any specific locations.Knotel struggled to hit its targets well before the coronavirus hit, its internal financial reporting viewed by Business Insider shows.Knotel has <a href="https://www.knotel.com/knotel-blogs/knotels-2019-year-in-review/">said publicly</a> that it had $350 million in annual revenue lined up at the start of 2020. According to internal documents seen by Business Insider, the company had $335 million of annual revenue signed on near the end of the fourth quarter of 2019, $80 million short of its $422 million forecast.In New York, Knotel signed just $5.8 million in net new contracts in the fourth quarter, compared with a goal of $51.5 million. Flex-office companies generally saw a slowdown in leasing activity in the fourth quarter, per<a href="https://www.cbre.com/agile-real-estate/Precipitous-Drop-in-Q4-2019-Flexible-Office-Leasing?article=%7bC2C732F9-948B-472A-A1A4-232754D08E7B%7d&amp;feedid=064af4d2-c485-45be-9744-afa7ca45de52"> CBRE data.</a> Much of that industry-wide decline was driven by WeWork, though Knotel's drop in leasing - 70,000 square feet of new deals in the fourth quarter, a decline of 80% from its quarterly activity over the previous year - was much more precipitous than competitor Industrious, which was down 6.5%. The leaked financial documents also showed that Knotel had about 500,000 square feet of vacancy in its portfolio in December, a number that is projected to grow to 1.5 million square feet as it takes possession of additional spaces it has committed to lease. <h2>Hundreds of thousands owed to brokerages</h2>One current Knotel employee said that the company's legal and finance teams were "combing through the leases to see where we can stop paying rent" so that the company could fund payroll. The source, who was not authorized to speak with the media, said Knotel considered payments to vendors, general contractors, and brokers as its last priority, with those payments likely to be deferred for three to six months or longer. The source also said Knotel was evaluating the possibility of extracting itself from spaces by encouraging landlords and the occupants of its spaces to strike a deal directly, with Knotel no longer the middleman. "Knotel would get out of an unfavorable real estate deal, the landlord would get a paying client, and the tenant would remain in the space, however without Knotel's workspace management operations," the source said. Knotel has also fallen behind on commission payments to major brokerage firms that have arranged leases for occupants to take space in Knotel's portfolio. According to two sources with direct knowledge of the agreements, CBRE and Cushman &amp; Wakefield, two of the largest commercial real estate brokerage companies, are each owed amounts in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. CBRE and Cushman &amp; Wakefield declined to comment on the commission payments. Knotel's spokeswoman declined to comment.Another brokerage firm, SquareFoot, is also owed a commission, two sources with direct knowledge of that debt said. One source described the commission as a five-figure sum.Stiffing brokerage companies could dissuade those firms from bringing Knotel tenants in the future, potentially dealing a blow to its future growth plans in the city. A former Knotel employee, who spoke to Business Insider on the condition of anonymity, said that the company has unpaid bills that total in the millions of dollars, based on vendor negotiations in which they were directly involved. Knotel's spokeswoman declined to comment on outstanding bills.One vendor, for example, was owed $500,000 - and their unpaid bill dated from at least last summer, this source, who left earlier this year, said. Once, a Knotel employee accidentally copied a number of vendors on an email about vendors Knotel planned not to pay. In most instances while the source worked at Knotel, vendors were eventually paid, at least in part. "Most of them at least got paid at least some of what they were owed. That was enough to keep them at bay, and our finance team was keeping track of how frustrated everyone was at them," this source said. Knotel's CFO, John Jureller, who was hired into the position in March, wrote in a recent internal email that was viewed by Business Insider that the company was looking at payments to vendors and landlords to try to stabilize its deteriorating financial position."At this time, we are completely clamping down on any and all payments other than our obligations to employees and our contractors / temps," Jereller's email read. "Together with legal, we are carefully analyzing the impacts to landlords, vendors and other statutory payments."In a dramatic cost-cutting measure last month, Knotel laid off or furloughed half of its 400-person staff. Amol Sarva, a tech entrepreneur who co-founded Knotel five years ago and pushed the business aggressively to compete alongside WeWork, continued to strike a cheerful tone on his LinkedIn page despite the company's recent setbacks."Knotel is hiring," his page states.
