Jupiter’s founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Jitendra Gupta told Business Insider that the firm doesn't want to raise any capital in the next 12 months at least as Jupiter still has been able to spend the capital since its inception in 2019. “We are pretty comfortable from a cash position standpoint. We have at least a four to five year runway with us. So from that side we are pretty comfortable and we don’t want to distract ourselves by just getting into this whale external validation. So we have enough cash, we know our strategy, what we want to do, so we just want to stay focused heads down in the queue for the next 24 months. And then finally worry about all these other stuff,” Gupta noted. Jupiter is a digital banking startup that allows customers to set up their savings bank account with in-built money management features such as real-time spend insights, tracking liquid assets across bank accounts, personalised savings goals and managing transactions. The three-year-old startup is now looking to get aggressively into the lending and wealth management space in order to offer a wider array of offerings for its customers. It claims to add over 150,000 users on its platform on a monthly basis and wants to stay put at that number for now and focus on building better offerings, instead of aggressively scaling the platform even further. Gupta also noted that Jupiter would be crossing its first million users by next week. It had initially expected to hit this target by June 2022. The company, in the first two years of its operations, focused on an invite-only offering which helped it to build a better buzz around the brand. Even though the competition in the personal lending space has been quite tough with the existence of players like Paytm and Mobikwik, Jupiter is not too concerned about that as the market is quite big to accommodate several big players. “Even if you keep offering the 10-15% customers, it’s a very very sizable offering,” Gupta emphasised. Singapore-based fintech platform <keyword id="13281042" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="volopay" source="Orion">Volopay</keyword> on Tuesday said it has raised $29 million from Winklevoss twins -- Cameron and Tyler -- along with a global decacorn and others to enter the Indian market. The Y Combinator-backed <keyword id="5196417" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="corporate-cards" source="Orion">corporate cards</keyword> and payable management start-up raised funds in Series A in a mix of equity and debt. Volopay said that it will now expand in the entire APAC region, along with the MENA expansion, after firmly placing itself into the Singaporean and Australian markets. "With India churning out several unicorn-level enterprises every year, it is indeed making a big wave on the global frontier. And this is only the beginning," said Rajith Shaji and Rajesh Raikwar, Co-founders, Volopay. "Accelerating their growth would require an efficient expense management tool that is simple yet scalable, something that Volopay has always aimed for," they added. The funds will also be utilised for building and innovating new technologies to complement their existing product. Neobanks are fintech firms that partner with banks and non-banking financial companies in order to provide digital banking services to its customers. Mumbai, Mar 9 () Karbon Card, which is into gift cards for startups, has raised USD 2 million in seed funding from angel investors from India and China, including Kunal Shah of Cred, Amrish Rau ex-PayU and Jitendra Gupta of Jupiter among others. The Bengaluru-based company plans to use the funds for product development, operations and market expansion. Aimed at providing a financial platform for entrepreneurs, the start-up offers corporate cards packed with tools and rewards for new age startups. But the show was largely run by giants like Amazon and Flipkart. That’s when <keyword id="4075194" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chirag-Taneja" source="Orion">Chirag Taneja</keyword> came up with the solution to help Indian brands to set up their own identity in the world of digital retail. GoKwik, launched in January 2021, offers tools and solutions to direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands — that sell directly to customers through their own website — to offer better experience to users. “If you look at D2C websites and compare it to the giants, you’ll realise that many things are broken. If e-commerce has to boom then someone will need to fix these experiences. That is what we do as a company,” Chirag Taneja, chief executive (CEO) and co-founder of GoKwik, told Business Insider. Fundraise to international expansion — all planned out GoKwik on Tuesday, September 7, announced a $5.5 million fundraise in order to expand its presence further. The pre-Series A round was led by Matrix Partners India, with participation of global investors like RTP Global. Several marquee angel investors and serial entrepreneurs also participated in the round. This includes Jupiter’s Jitendra Gupta, Uni’s Nitin Gupta, AngelList India’s Utsav Somani, CarDekho’s Umang Kumar, Shaadi.com’s Anupam Mittal, Livspace’s Ramakant Sharma, OfBusiness’ Asish Mohapatra and more. Over 12 angels invested in the pre-Series A round. GoKwik plans to use this funding to double its current workforce of 75 employees by 2022 and expand to other Southeast Asian countries that face the same ecommerce related challenges as India. The company has zeroed down on Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia for now. The Gurugram-based company notes that they will have an early mover advantage if they start international expansion now. For its international play, the company will focus on building local and central teams in the specific region and partner with local players. The technology and the product would largely remain the same for these markets, where cash-on-delivery would be a more common mode of payment. The Gurgaon-based startup helps retailers overcome challenges of setting up online stores and provide better experience to their customers. The company claims to have processed over a million transactions since its launch. Helping boAt, MamaEarth, LimeRoad and more The e-commerce enabler has also added 75 customers to its bucket list, ranging from marketplaces to publicly listed companies and renowned D2C brands. This includes boAt, Mamaearth, The Man Company, Heads Up For Tails, LimeRoad, ManMatters, The Whole Truth, The Souled Store, and TCNS Clothing Co, which owns brands like W, Aurelia and Wishful. Taneja noted that there are four legs of e-commerce — discovery, search/selection, conversion, retention. GoKwik is solving all these problems with its solution, as per Taneja. Ecommerce is expanding and one would need to use ecommerce enablers to bring the cost down, he added. The company was founded by Taneja and Vivek Bajpai. Taneja has previously worked as the chief revenue officer of Bombay Shaving Company, assistant vice president at Yes Bank and founded a food tech company Ketchupp in 2015. Bajpai, chief technology officer (CTO) and co-founder of GoKwik, was the head of technology at an adtech company SilverPush. Ankush Talwar, chief data scientist at GoKwik, is also part of the founding team. He previously was associated with Kognoz Research &amp; Consulting, Quantiphi and Publicis. Domestic short-format video app <keyword id="9292226" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mitron-TV">Mitron TV</keyword> on Tuesday said it has made its debut on iOS devices, enabling Apple users to create, upload, view and share one-minute videos. The app was first made available on the Android Play Store and in just six months, witnessed significant traction with over 39 million downloads. "Given the phenomenal response that Mitron TV has received on Android, I have no doubt that the app will be equally well-received on iOS," Shivank Agarwal, Co-Founder and CEO, Mitron said in a statement. "I am pleased to offer my fellow Indians and content entrepreneurs a home-grown social video platform that enables them to showcase their skills whilst inspiring and entertaining a host of like-minded people," Agarwal added. The iOS version will also have 'categories' which was launched for the Android version recently, allowing viewers to discover videos that offer a perfect match to their interests. Former Paytm Money CEO launches his own financial services platform with an investment from Mirae, and several other major startup founders

<ul><li>The company, which is a part of the startup world’s new favourite term – Dukaantech, helps Indian businesses go online and was launched at the peak of the pandemic. </li><li>Dukaan co-founder and CEO Suumit Shah, in an interview with Business Insider, talks about the growth he had never expected out of an app they had launched on a whim. </li><li>Dukaan is live on the Play Store again after being banned for over a month after a legal battle with <keyword id="7598194" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="khatabook">Khatabook</keyword>.</li></ul>For the barely eight-month-old Dukaan, it’s been a crazy ride. In just eight months, the startup has garnered millions of users, millions in funding, and landed in a soup with a legal battle with Khatabook. The company, which is a part of the startup world’s new favourite term – Dukaantech, helps Indian businesses go online and was launched at the peak of the pandemic. Dukaan opens Dukaan co-founder and CEO Suumit Shah, in a candid chat with Business Insider, talks about the growth he had never expected out of an app they had launched on a whim. During peak lockdown, Shah got a text from a Jockey outlet with a PDF file with all their items listed, and the text read that you can place your order on WhatsApp and they’ll deliver. This brought up two questions on Shah’s mind – why aren’t they using platforms like Shopify, what happens when they get over 50 orders or how will they keep track of them all. At this point, Shah was building a company called Rank, which had a tool that lets you know where your business stands on Google Search and other metrics. “We took a look at the market and decided to build an app that will make it easier for businesses to build their inventory. We built the app in two-three days and immediately started getting a lot of calls,” Shah told Business Insider. As the calls kept coming in and feature requests kept piling up, they realised that small businesses have their ways of creating catalogues and have different metrics. “People were doing anything to get back into the business,” Shah said and added that they found takers in people who were earlier opposed to online. Within a week, they had 25,000 orders, and by November, they had over 2.7 million stores created through their platform, which have processed a cumulative ₹100 crore in Gross Merchandising Volume (GMV). The legal battle with Khatabook For Dukaan, the fast-tracked growth hasn’t come without legal woes. The Khatabook-Dukaan legal battle became the talk of the town, as the former accused Dukaan of copyright infringement over the source code of the application. Khatabook was also running its own app called Dukaan by Khatabook. After an intense battle in court, Dukaan was ordered to take down its app from all platforms, including <keyword id="6369511" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-play-store">Google Play Store</keyword>. In an out of court settlement, Khatabook and Dukaan resolved the issue with <a href="https://entrackr.com/2020/11/khatabook-and-dukaan-resolve-issues-out-of-court/">Khatabook getting nominal equity in Growthpond </a>(Dukaan’s parent company). And after all that, Dukaan is now live on the Play Store again. Shah looks back at the entire legal battle and says that it has indeed been a roller coaster ride. “The issue isn’t there anymore, they allowed us to use the name Dukaan, and they’ll keep running their app; we will run ours. India is a huge market, and ultimately, the best product will win. These products need the hour, so the user will rely on the product, which helps you and gives you the output. For example, even when Paytm existed and had so many businesses, Khatabook came and created its own segment. Exactly that way, we have our own space and impact we are creating,” said Shah. Cashing in big cheques in a short time Dukaan has been one of those rare startups that has received significant funding within a month of its launch. While there are <a href="https://entrackr.com/2020/10/exclusive-dukaan-app-removed-from-play-store-after-court-relief-to-khatabook/">theories about the financing</a>, Shah says the money came their way because of the popularity of the product. “In one week, we were trending on top on the Google Play Store, investors were looking at that, and we got a lot of inbound calls. On the first call, we had a term sheet of $17 million. By the end, we had four term sheets on the table, and we had to choose who to go with,” he said. Dukaan has raised $6 million in seed funding co-led by Matrix Partners India and Lightspeed India Partners. The round also saw participation from angel investors like Haresh Chawla (Founding CEO Network18, Viacom18), Ryan Hoover (Founder, Weekend Fund and Product Hunt), Jitendra Gupta (Founder, Jupiter), Shashank Kumar (Founder, Razorpay), Sandeep Tandon (Founder, Freecharge), Prabhkiran Singh (Founder, Bewakoof.com), and Kunal Shah (Founder, Cred). But while Shah believes they aren’t growing too fast, he admits he never expected this coming. “In the beginning, a friend of mine knew someone who was a distributor for a big FMCG company. He gave me the deal that he will onboard 15000 stores and give me a 5% stake. I thought about the order; I actually considered it until I got 25,000 orders in a day. So I wasn’t expecting these numbers – the reality has been much better,” said Shah. “The kind of users were also not expected – people selling bakra on eid, panditji selling satyanarayana pooja ka saaman, these are things I hadn’t expected,” he added. But now, there’s a lot more to do Dukaan is back on the Play Store after being down for over a month, which means they have lost out on many incoming users. However, Shah claims that even while they weren’t on the Play Store, they have managed to remain a market leader as they helped the existing users. “By the end of March 2021, having 15 million merchants is what we are trying to achieve,” said Shah. And they are also coming up with new features to support merchants. “Right now, the basic app digitizes the business. The questions merchants have is how do I get more business. We will build small marketing tools that will help our users market their business — for example, WhatsApp stories. We have built a small tool where you can design WhatsApp stories and display your offers. The next funnel is how do we make sure the sellers get more reach. Online payment functionalities is another thing we are working on,” he shared. While Shah claims they made $1200 on day one, the focus is now not on revenue but on building the business.
