The surge is attributed to solid retail demand, estimated at approximately 15 per cent y/y, strategic inventory build-up, and a favourable base effect. Excluding Honda, the growth remains robust at around 14 per cent. In the passenger vehicle (PV) segment, volumes are also expected to see an uptick, largely due to better retail performance and inventory accumulation. The report predicts a slight growth of around 3 per cent y/y for PV volumes. On the commercial vehicles (CV) front, the outlook is more mixed. The report forecasts that overall CV volumes will remain relatively flat, with a small drop of approximately 3 per cent y/y, primarily due to lower light commercial vehicle (LCV) volumes. However, there are bright spots within the segment. Volumes for VECV's CVs are expected to have risen by 15 per cent, and the medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&amp;H CV) growth forecast has been revised upwards to high single digits from mid-single digits, driven by robust demand for buses and ongoing replacement demand. The M&amp;H CV segment is further bolstered by increased infrastructure and economic activity, as well as a favourable comparison base from Q1 and Q4 of FY24.

New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): The <keyword id="20025828" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="two-wheeler-sales" source="keywords">two-wheeler sales</keyword> in India in June registered a growth of 21.3 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y), highlights the sales data released by the <keyword id="20163832" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="society-of-indian-automobile" source="keywords">Society of Indian Automobile</keyword> Manufacturers (SIAM) on Friday. The data highlighted that in June the total sales of the two wheelers were recorded at 16,14,154 units which is a 21.3 per cent increase from 13,30,826 two wheeler sold in June 2023. The sales of the scooters also surged to a record 42 per cent Y-o-Y in June to 5.4 lakhs, last year in June it was at 3.8 lakhs. The sales of Bikes also registered two-fold growth with sales increased by 11 per cent in June to 10.3 lakhs as compared to 9.1 lakh last year during the same period. The <keyword id="20028264" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="passenger-vehicle-sales" source="keywords">passenger vehicle sales</keyword> also registered a growth of 3 per cent Y-o-Y in June. The total passenger vehicle sales during June stands at 3,37,757 units, it was 3,27,788 units during June 2023. The sales of <keyword id="20412606" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="three-wheelers" source="keywords">three-wheelers</keyword> surged twofold by an increase of 12.3 per cent, according to the data total 59, 544 units of three wheelers were sold in June 2024 as against 53, 025 units sold in June 2023. The sales data for June demonstrates a positive outlook for the Indian <keyword id="20081560" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="automobile-industry" source="keywords">automobile industry</keyword>. The substantial growth in two-wheeler sales, particularly scooters and motorcycles, along with the steady increase in passenger and three-wheeler sales, reflects a resilient and expanding automobile market in India. Earlier in May, the sales of passenger cars dropped by over 11 per cent, according to the data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The domestic sales of passenger cars also slipped 11 per cent from 1,20,364 units in May 2023 to 1,06,952 units in May 2024. The auto companies also reduced the production of passenger cars by 13 per cent, from 1,63,619 units in May 2023 to 1,42,367 units 2024. Export of passenger cars too saw a drop of about 20 per cent from 35,806 units in May 2023 to 28,802 units in May 2024. However, the sales number of June showed the positive signs of growth in the automobile industry.

The overall passenger vehicle (PV) dispatches from companies to dealers stood at 3,50,355 units in July 2023, <keyword id="20081560" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="automobile-industry" source="keywords">automobile industry</keyword> body <keyword id="20185536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SIAM" source="keywords">SIAM</keyword> said on Wednesday. <keyword id="21653561" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="utility-vehicles" source="keywords">Utility vehicles</keyword> continued to drive sales of PVs, clocking 1,88,217 units last month, as against 1,80,831 units in July 2023, a growth of 4.1 per cent, as per the data issued by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Passenger cars, however, recorded a drop of 12 per cent at 96,652 units, as against 1,09,859 units in the same month last year. Industry observers pointed out that after high-paced growth witnessed in the past couple of years, the industry is witnessing moderation in demand. Besides, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) also undertook stock corrections in July to reduce inventory in the network. As per SIAM data, <keyword id="22783202" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="two-wheeler-wholesales" source="keywords">two-wheeler wholesales</keyword> grew by 12.5 per cent to 14,41,694 units last month, as compared to 12,82,054 units in July 2023. <keyword id="20067449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="motorcycles" source="keywords">Motorcycles</keyword> wholesales were up 4.1 per cent at 8,50,489 units in July 2024, as against 8,17,206 units in the year-ago month, SIAM said. Scooters sales were up 29.2 per cent at 5,53,642 units last month, as against 4,28,640 units in the year-ago period. Three-wheeler wholesales also rose 5.1 per cent to 59,073 units from 56,204 units in July last year. "Though three-wheeler and two-wheeler segments are performing well, there has been some de-growth of passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles in July 2024, compared to July 2023," SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal said in a statement. He, however, said the above average rainfall coupled with upcoming festive season is likely to again propel growth in the short term. "In addition, enabling budget announcements which emphasise on overall economic growth with fiscal support for infrastructure and rural sector should augur well for the auto sector in the medium-term," Aggarwal said.

The stock of the company declined 4.09 per cent to trade at Rs 1,097.65 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). On the BSE, scrip of Tata Motors dropped 3.69 per cent to trade at Rs 1,102.40 per piece. The 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 767.65 points or 0.94 per cent to trade at 81,099.90, while NSE Nifty fell 206.70 points to 24,804.20. On Thursday, Tata Motors reported an 11 per cent year-on-year dip in total sales at 71,996 units in July. The company had sold 80,633 units in July 2023. Its total domestic sales dipped 11 per cent and stood at 70,161 units last month as against 78,844 units in the year-ago period. The auto major said its consolidated net profit increased 74 per cent to Rs 5,566 crore in the June 2024 quarter, aided by robust performance by Jaguar Land Rover as well as domestic business. It had posted a net profit of Rs 3,203 crore in the April-June quarter of last fiscal. The company's total income increased to Rs 1,09,623 crore for the period under review against Rs 1,03,597 crore in the June quarter in FY24. On a standalone basis, the automaker said its net profit stood at Rs 2,190 crore compared to a net loss of Rs 64 crore in the year-ago period. Total income rose to Rs 18,851 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal against Rs 16,132 crore in the corresponding period of FY24. Jaguar Land Rover reported a revenue of 7.3 billion pounds, the best first-quarter revenue on record, up 5 per cent versus the June quarter of FY24. The company also said its board has approved the Scheme of Demerger of Tata Motors Ltd (TML) into two separate listed companies. As part of the scheme, TML will demerge its commercial vehicle undertaking, involving the commercial vehicle business (all the assets, liabilities and employees relating to the commercial vehicle business) and all its related investments, into TMLCV. Further, pursuant to the scheme, the existing passenger vehicle business in TMPV, will be merged into TML, the existing listed entity. Upon the scheme becoming effective, both TMLCV and TML will be renamed, resulting in two separate listed entities. What she told us in Q2 was that is going away or has gone away," Dollar General CEO Ted Vasos said earlier this month at the Goldman Sachs Global Retailing Conference.Vasos said that reduction in earnings, coupled with higher prices from years of inflation, has put <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dollar-general-shows-how-bad-economy-is-for-some-shoppers-2024-8">increased pressure on lower-income households</a>. If things continue according to historical trends, those concerns begin to get more serious for middle and upper-income segments as well."When things start to move south in the economy, our core customer feels it first," Vasos said. "We usually see it before most retailers start to feel it."Dollar Tree, which owns Family Dollar, reported similar consumer headwinds during its quarterly earnings this month.Auto parts stores are another retail category that is especially tuned in to what's happening at the lower ends of the economic scale.Much of their consumer-facing business is driven by helping people keep their cars and trucks running smoothly, Mizuho analyst David Bellinger told Business Insider."That's the lower end consumer who works on their car out of economic necessity," he said. "So maybe if they don't have to make a fix, they could delay a few months. That's kind of what's happening now."Advance Auto Parts CFO Ryan Grimsland said during the company's earnings call last month that DIY customers are deferring "maintenance that you would typically want to see," like skipping an oil change or ignoring a check-engine light.That can help extend the household budget for a time, but as Genuine Parts CEO Will Stengel put it earlier this month, "there's only so long you can defer an issue."And repairs aren't the only auto-related expense seeing cut-backs. Ally Financial this week reported worse than expected loan performance in July and August."Our borrower is struggling with high inflation and cost of living, and now more recently, a weakening employment picture," Ally CFO Russell Hutchinson <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/ally-financial-flags-intensifying-credit-challenges-shares-slump-2024-09-10/">said</a>, according to Reuters.One thing that deferred maintenance and missed payments have in common is they are both problems that get more expensive with time. Nobody wants to be stranded on the side of the road or hounded by collections agents, but more people are finding themselves hoping to make it one day or week at a time.Indeed, as Dollar General's Vasos observed, paychecks aren't going as far as they once did."What we noticed was an even tighter core consumer at the very last week of each of the months in Q2," he said. "While that's always a tighter week of the month for our core consumer, it was by far the weakest."The expected interest rate cut from the Federal Reserve next week won't solve these difficulties overnight, but it could signal that improvement is in sight.Interest rate effects take a while to work through the economy, Bellinger noted, as big purchases are financed, working hours are scheduled, and business activity ticks back up.Still, with any luck, the creeping sense of economic anxiety might begin to subside, not just for the middle class, but for the households that have borne the real brunt of America's war on inflation.

Auto parts and dollar store execs warn that low-income Americans are stretched thin and running on borrowed time

<keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India on Friday reported a whopping 80.3% increase in net profit at Rs 3,716.5 crore in July-September quarter driven by its highest ever sales, softening commodity prices, cost reduction efforts and higher non-operating income. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 2,061.5 crore in the second quarter of FY23, Maruti Suzuki India said in a statement. The car maker also said that it recorded its highest-ever quarterly sale volume, net sales and net profit in this quarter. During the quarter under review, the company registered net sales of Rs 35,535.1 crore, against Rs 28,543.50 crore recorded in the same quarter of the previous fiscal, owing to higher sales volume and product mix, it said. The company sold 5,52,055 vehicles during the quarter as compared to 5,17,395 units in the second quarter of last year. Of the 5,52,055 vehicles sold in the July-September period this year, 4,82,731 units were sold in the domestic market while the remaining 69,324 cars were exported, the company said The EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation) margin for the quarter stood at 12.9%. On a year-on-year basis, EBITDA rose nearly 73%, margin expanding by 360 basis points. Raw material costs as a percentage of sales fell 300 basis points from last year to 73.5% from 76.5%.
