<ul><li><strong>28-year-old Instagram star and amateur stuntman Johnny 'Danger' Bennett reportedly died in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday.</strong></li><li><strong>Emergency services were called to the crash site in Auckland, New Zealand at 2.30 p.m.</strong></li><li><strong>Friends confirmed that the social media star, who had over 240,000 followers on Instagram and more than 300,000 on Facebook, had been killed.</strong></li><li><strong>He was known for his risky stunts and jokes.</strong></li></ul><hr><p><br>A 28-year-old Instagram star, comedian, and amateur stuntman has reportedly died in a motorcycle crash in New Zealand.</br></p><p>Johnny "Danger" Bennett was killed in&#xa0;a crash on an Auckland highway on Wednesday, according to close friend Julian Rivers-Smith who spoke to&#xa0;<a href="https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/103383763/social-media-star-johnny-danger-dies-in-motorcycle-crash" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stuff.nz.</a></p><p>Emergency services were reportedly called to the site of the single-vehicle crash at 2.30 p.m.</p><p>Police said on Wednesday night that they were still trying to confirm the identity of the man who had died - and the cause of the crash.&#xa0;</p><p>However, a fellow motorcyclist who was riding with Bennett at the time of the crash confirmed that the man's name was indeed Johnny, though he didn't know him personally.</p><p>He said that up to 50 riders had come together for Anzac Day, but got separated in traffic.</p><p><span>"I got to a point where everyone was signalling to stop because a&#xa0;guy had come off, so I went over to help," he said, choosing to remain anonymous to Stuff.nz.</span></p><p><span>The bike had reportedly gone down a ditch.</span></p><p>"When I got to him he was unconscious and bleeding. I only knew his name was Johnny, because everyone was calling him that, I didn't know he was anyone famous until later."</p><p>He confirmed that an ambulance arrived followed by police.</p><p>The location of the crash was a section of highway - with a 100km/hr speed limit - that climbs steeply with a passing lane that leads to a sharp turn, according to Stuff.nz.</p><p>While the conditions of the crash are unknown, Bennett, a New Zealander who had <a href="https://www.instagram.com/johnnydanger_nz/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">240,000 followers on Instagram</a>, reportedly lost his driver's license in 2015 and was fined $1,000 after filming himself crossing a bridge while car-surfing on the roof of a taxi travelling at 80 km/hr.</p><p>He was reportedly known for his boundary-pushing humour and stunts.</p><p>Tributes have poured in to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/johnnydangerb/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his Facebook page</a>, which currently has over 300,000 followers.</p><p>A tribute post saying Bennett was "taken too soon" also <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh-6CW6nrv0/?taken-by=yambobikes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appeared on the Instagram account for Yambo Bikes</a>, a line of prototype bikes Bennett was reportedly working on with freestyle motorcross rider Luke Smith.</p><p>Smith himself posted a message on his personal account saying he was&#xa0;"so lost for words and don't know where to start."</p><p>Bennett had launched his own brand of beer, Dangers Lager, and also starred in an MTV series called "MTV Presents:&#xa0;Johnny Danger."</p><p><a href="http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/entertainment/2018/04/mtv-releases-emotional-johnny-danger-tribute.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A statement from MTV said</a>: "We've truly lost one of the greats. We hope you're cracking into the Danger's Lager up there. Kamala Harris of California, who climbed in the polls and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-julian-castro-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Julian Castro</a>, whose <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/julian-castro-dominated-stage-first-2020-democratic-debate-2019-6">campaign donations exploded</a> in the following days after his debate.</p><p>Tuesday's debate featured a handful of clear winners and losers.</p><h2>The winners</h2><p>Sens. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-bernie-sanders-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Bernie Sanders</a> of Vermont and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-elizabeth-warren-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Elizabeth Warren</a> of Massachusetts are clear rivals. They are two of the most liberal candidates in the Democratic field, their home states border one another, and they are neck and neck in most major national and early voting state polls.</p><p>But the far-left Democrats managed to avoid what could have been a massive fight between the two of them. Multiple questions from CNN moderators, including one asking whether Sanders was too far to the left to defeat President <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-donald-trump-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-4">Donald Trump</a>, failed to spark a fight with Warren. </p><p>Instead, the two progressives <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/warren-sanders-democratic-debate-cnn-john-delaney-medicare-all-2019-7">teamed up</a> and went after moderate Democrats who are highly critical of policy proposals that border on socialism - and are often <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-pelosi-republicans-new-boogeyman-for-2020-2019-2">a key point of attack</a> from Republicans.</p><p>"T<span>hey're running on telling half the country that your health insurance is illegal," said former Maryland Rep.<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-john-delaney-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-4"> John Delaney</a> while contrasting his healthcare plans with Sanders' and Warrens', which would eliminate private health insurance.</span><span></span></p><p><span>Warren snapped back at Delaney, characterizing his criticisms of "Medicare for All" as parroting Republican talking points.</span></p><p>"So let's be clear about this. We are the Democrats. We are not about trying to take away healthcare from anyone," she said. "That's what the Republicans are trying to do. And we should stop using Republican talking points."</p><p>But Delaney received a surprisingly large amount of screen time Tuesday night, with moderators continuously going to him for contrasting takes on key issues. As a candidate looking to carve out his own unique lane as the more centrist choice in the Democratic field, that could be a major boon to his campaign.</p><h2>The losers</h2><p>A lot of candidates struggled to distinguish themselves from the rest of the Democrats on stage. Not capitalizing on key moments can kill any momentum a campaign might have, which in a field of 25 candidates, can ultimately become a political death sentence.</p><p>South Bend, Indiana Mayor <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-pete-buttigieg-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Pete Buttigieg</a> did not produce a breakout moment, which can be hard to begin with while sharing a stage with nine other candidates.</p><p>While discussing whether certain candidates are too far to the left and what labels like "socialist" will do to the party, Buttigieg said, "I<span>t's time to stop worrying what the Republicans will say."</span></p><p><em><strong>Read more: </strong></em><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-john-delaney-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-4"><em>John Delaney is running for president in 2020. Here's everything we know about the candidate and how he stacks up against the competition.</em></a></p><p><span>But Buttigieg did not articulately distinguish between what is "socialist" and what is not, especially compared to other candidates like Delaney and Montana Gov. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-steve-bullock-age-bio-family-key-positions-2019-5">Steve Bullock</a>. He missed the mark on key moments to draw widespread applause or create laughs in the crowd, which viewers will remember.</span></p><p><span>Another loser of the debate was the mainstream Democratic talking point that the party has not veered extremely to the left in recent years. Candidates spent a bulk of the debate arguing about hot button issues like eliminating private health insurance and decriminalizing border crossings.</span></p><p><span>"The ones who can't possibly win the nomination are warning the ones who CAN win that their crazy policies are going to doom them," Trump reelection campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh <a href="https://twitter.com/TimMurtaugh/status/1156371593830027270">wrote on Twitter</a>.</span></p><p><span>Whether that theme carries on into the next debate and dominates the remaining months of the Democratic presidential primary could be very dangerous for Democrats, who are <a href="http://maristpoll.marist.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/NPR_PBS-NewsHour_Marist-Poll_USA-NOS-and-Tables_1907190926.pdf#page=3">far outside the US mainstream</a> on certain issues, according to recent national polling.</span></p><p><span>The rest of the field split on how they handled the primetime stage. Candidates like former Rep. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-beto-orourke-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Beto O'Rourke</a> of Texas, Sen. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-amy-klobuchar-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Amy Klobuchar</a> of Minnesota, and author <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-marianne-williamson-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Marianne Williamson</a> managed to hit their marks and deliver snappy lines about their unique policy positions.</span></p><p><span>Others candidates, such as Ohio Rep. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-tim-ryan-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-4">Tim Ryan</a> and former Colorado Gov. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-john-hickenlooper-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-4">John Hickenlooper</a>, missed breakout chances despite being given ample opportunities from the three debate moderators.</span></p><p><span>Which candidates truly shined will be evidenced when the donations either pour in or completely evaporate. Here are the winners and losers of Tuesday's feisty Democratic presidential debate

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5672cee62340f8b8008b65db-1067-800/bill belichick.jpg" alt="bill belichick" data-mce-source="Elsa/Getty" /><p class="source"><span>Elsa/Getty</span></p><p class="caption">Bill Belichick has to cobble together a running back rotation out of backups.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The New England Patriots have had some of the toughest injury luck in the NFL.</p><p>While they've suffered injuries to notable players like Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski (who returned in Week 14), the Patriots have been crushed at running back.</p><p>They first lost Dion Lewis to a torn ACL in Week 9. Lewis was a breakout running back who was also one of Brady's key receivers. In just seven games, Lewis had over 600 combined rushing and receiving yards with four touchdowns.</p><p>With Lewis out, LeGarrette Blount become the primary back in New England. While Blount doesn't have the versatility of Lewis, he has a pounding style of running and had bulldozed his way to over 700 yards and six touchdowns on the season.</p><p>Blount suffered a hip injury in Week 14 that's expected to keep him out the rest of the season. The Patriots moved Blount to the Injury Reserve list on Wednesday, essentially signaling that his season is done. </p><p>This leaves the Patriots without their two starting running backs just four weeks before the playoffs. And while the Patriots are better than perhaps any other team at turning end-of-the-bench players into quality starters, their depth at running back isn't encouraging.</p><p>Brandon Bolden and James White are next up on the depth chart, and while both have had their moments, they're not Blount or Lewis. Bolden has totaled over 200 yards in rushing and receiving, but much of that is inflated by a Week 12 performance in which he had 84 receiving yards on four catches. He's only topped 50 rushing yards once this season (in Week 14), but he did so on 16 carries, making for a 3.2 yards per carry average. For the season, he's averaging just 3.1 yards per carry.</p><p>White, meanwhile, had one monster game against the Eagles, catching ten passes for for 115 yards and a touchdown. Otherwise, he's averaging a meagerly 2.6 yards per carry, and hasn't topped three carries or four catches through the season besides for the Eagles game.</p><p>This has left the Patriots searching for help. On Wednesday, they signed Montee Ball to their practice squad. Ball was a second-round pick in 2013, and though he had a decent rookie year with the Broncos, he lasted just 21 games in Denver, before getting cut and going unclaimed throughout this season, despite multiple tryouts. <a href="http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000602369/article/montee-ball-signed-to-patriots-practice-squad">According to Around the NFL's Conor Orr</a>, the Patriots also may look at Trent Richardson, a young, highly touted running back, who after an impressive rookie year, fell out of the NFL.</p><p>In a further show of desperation, the Patriots were also rumored to be considering signing 32-year-old Steven Jackson after they worked him out. Jackson was a top running back in the NFL during his prime with the Rams, and he had a decent two-year stint in Atlanta, but hasn't played yet this season. Though Jackson's 700-yard, six-touchdown season in 2014 is impressive on paper, he only averaged 3.7 yards per carry, and given his age and high mileage, he likely would struggle to rekindle some of that magic on such short notice.</p><p>If any team deserves the benefit of the doubt, however, it's the Patriots. The Patriots are renowned for getting production from unexpected sources. The Patriots' offensive line ranks as the best in getting running backs more yards, <a href="http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol">according to Football Outsiders</a>, so perhaps any runner can pick up extra yards if the blocking is good enough.</p><p>Additionally, the Patriots can survive as a pass-heavy team. Tom Brady is still at the helm, and with Gronkowski and Danny Amendola healthy and Edelman on the mend, the Patriots can continue as a dynamic passing offense, even if the run game is lacking. That puts extra pressure on Brady and his receivers, but if the passing game is efficient, it also opens up lanes for running backs.</p><p>Nonetheless, the Patriots have to be worried about the state of their running backs so close to the playoffs. <p>Grunting - that loud, sometimes obnoxious noise produced when we exercise - has been an ongoing source of debate among psychologists. </p>
<p>From a scientific standpoint, the grunting noise is made as we "exhale against a closed, or partially closed, vocal fold," said <a href="http://www.hsutx.edu/faculty-profile/holland/oconnell-dennis">Dennis O'Connell</a>, a professor of physical therapy at the Holland School of Sciences &amp; Mathematics in Texas.</p>
<p>The vocal folds, or vocal cords, refer to the two bands of muscle tissue that open into the windpipe. The vocal folds are open and relaxed when we breathe in, sometimes producing a rushing noise. But when the vocal folds close as we exhale "you are going to hear some turbulence," said O'Connell.</p>
<p>The reason we grunt is slightly more complicated. Some experts say it improves performance; others say it's just blowing smoke.  </p>
<p><a href="http://thebreathingclass.com/about-dr-belisa/">Belisa Vranich</a>, a psychologist at <a href="http://willspace.com">willspace</a>, a boutique training studio in New York City, believes grunting is a natural and necessary physical response to exerting effort.</p>
<p>"Think about tennis," she said. "When you hit the ball, it's hard to be explosive and not grunt."</p>
<p>And if you're not grunting, you should be, because it gives you more power. "It helps you push more weight, hit harder, and throw farther," said Vranich. </p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">When we do something like squats or power lifting, we take air in and hold our breath for a moment. By doing that, the middle of our body gets squished together, creating a pressure ball in our belly that makes the body rigid in order to stabilize and protect our spine from injury, said Vranich.  </span></p>
<p>All that pressure built up inside our gut means that when we finally do exhale "it's almost impossible to let that energy out without making a grunt," said Vranich.</p>
<p>Scientists don't know exactly why a sharp yell or grunt gives people that extra oomph when they do things like lift weights or swat at a tennis ball, but it's probably related to a communication signal from the part of the brain that controls breathing to the part that controls muscle function, said O'Connell.</p>
<p>When we forcefully push air out, the brain sends information down to the muscles, which either excites muscle groups or decreases inhibition - or both. The result is enhanced performance.</p>
<p>This beneficial effect of grunting was demonstrated in a <a href="https://docs.google.com/a/businessinsider.com/viewer?a=v&amp;pid=gmail&amp;attid=0.2&amp;thid=13deb7ad3aec2589&amp;mt=application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.presentation&amp;url=https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui%3D2%26ik%3D1ae784944d%26view%3Datt%26th%3D13deb7ad3aec2589%26attid%3D0.2%26disp%3Dsafe%26zw&amp;sig=AHIEtbS4FVWgBqFR8XA-SyD1B40uQQ6cPQ">study</a> of college tennis players. O'Connell's students found that grunting increased serve and forehand velocity by an average 4.5 mph. It didn't matter if the players were regular grunters, if they were male or female, or how they felt about grunting.</p>

<p>Although grunting seems like a natural reaction, Vranich said unnecessary or excessive grunting is annoying. That kind of testosterone-pumped animalistic sound designed to psych the person up and get adrenaline going - or even intimidate a competitor - is rooted more in psychology than in physiology.  </p>
<p>The controversy over whether grunting should be allowed or discouraged is growing, particularly at the gym and on the tennis court, where it can be distracting.</p>
<p>In 2006, a <a href="http://health.usnews.com/usnews/health/healthday/071024/experts-sound-off-on-workout-grunting.htm">bodybuilder was kicked out of a Planet Fitness for grunting</a>, which violated the club's strict "no-grunting policy." Shortly after that incident, a <a href="http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/">man was attacked at an Equinox gym in New York City</a> for being too noisy in spin class. </p>
<p>O'Connell recognizes that grunting maximizes force production. He also believes that all the hooting and hollering can be controlled, and that there are quieter breathing techniques for achieving comparable muscle activity and peak force. </p>
<p>A <a href="https://docs.google.com/a/businessinsider.com/viewer?a=v&amp;pid=gmail&amp;attid=0.1&amp;thid=13deb7ad3aec2589&amp;mt=application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document&amp;url=https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui%3D2%26ik%3D1ae784944d%26view%3Datt%26th%3D13deb7ad3aec2589%26attid%3D0.1%26disp%3Dsafe%26zw&amp;sig=AHIEtbRNhR85y4QtzgJKOjq-GhN09U969g">recent study</a> from O'Connell's department found that in a simulated forehand stroke, athletes got the same power boost from grunting as they did by forcefully expelling air. </p>
<p>"Forced exhalation without the annoying sound is just as good at increasing force production as exhaling with the annoying sound," said O'Connell. </p>
<p><span>O'Connell</span> offered an anecdote from his daughter's softball games, where he would overhear dads telling their kids to grunt. If you can be coached to grunt, he said, then you could certainly be coached to exhale without grunting.</p>
