A special court here on Tuesday remanded former JD(S) MP <keyword id="20313055" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prajwal-Revanna" source="keywords">Prajwal Revanna</keyword>, who is facing charges of <keyword id="19907938" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rape" source="keywords">rape</keyword> and <keyword id="20027232" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sexual-abuse" source="keywords">sexual abuse</keyword>, to <keyword id="19911103" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="judicial-custody" source="keywords">judicial custody</keyword> till June 24. The 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court had on June 12 remanded him to the custody of the <keyword id="20085377" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Special-Investigation-Team" source="keywords">Special Investigation Team</keyword> (<keyword id="19925651" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SIT" source="keywords">SIT</keyword>), which is probing the cases against him, till June 18. The 33-year-old had failed in his bid to retain the <keyword id="22095822" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hassan-parliamentary-constituency" source="keywords">Hassan parliamentary constituency</keyword> in the recent polls. SIT officials arrested Revanna soon after he landed at Bengaluru airport from Germany on May 31. He had left for Germany on April 27, a day after Hassan went to the polls. A '<keyword id="21526463" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Blue-Corner-Notice" source="keywords">Blue Corner Notice</keyword>' seeking information on his whereabouts had earlier been issued by the Interpol, following a request by the SIT via the Central Bureau of Investigation. Revanna was arrested in a case registered against him in Holenarasipura in Hassan district on April 28. He was accused of sexually harassing a 47-year-old former maid. He has been booked in three cases of sexual assault. There are also charges of rape against him. The cases of sexual abuse came to light after pen-drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving Revanna were reportedly circulated in Hassan, ahead of Lok Sabha polls there on April 26. JD(S) suspended him from the party after cases were filed against him.

Bengaluru court remands Prajwal Revanna to judicial custody till June 24

A Delhi court on Monday sent Chief Minister <keyword id="19901384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arvind-kejriwal" source="keywords">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> to <keyword id="6358969" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="judicial-custody" source="Orion">judicial custody</keyword> till April 15, while the AAP supremo moved an application to have three books -- Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana and How Prime Ministers Decide. He was produced before Special <keyword id="21152631" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Judge-Kaweri-Baweja" source="Orion">Judge Kaweri Baweja</keyword> of the Rouse Avenue Court on the expiry of his previously extended <keyword id="6357808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Enforcement-Directorate" source="Orion">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED) custody in connection with the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam. On March 28, Judge Baweja had extended his ED custody, holding that there were "sufficient reasons". However, she had allowed him to meet his family members and lawyers. On Monday, the CM was produced amid heavy security while counsel for both ED and <keyword id="19919267" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cm-kejriwal" source="keywords">CM Kejriwal</keyword> made submissions virtually. Senior Advocates Vikram Chaudhary and Ramesh Gupta appeared for him and Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S.V. Raju for the probe agency. Seeking his judicial custody, ASG Raju said "we (ED) seek his judicial custody and no more ED remand". Alleging the same as it had alleged last time, the ED said: "He (<keyword id="19895701" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="keywords">Kejriwal</keyword>) is non-cooperative and is giving evasive replies." The ASG made another similar submission as last time saying that CM Kejriwal isn't giving password to his phone. The court was told by ASG that the ED might seek his custody later. After a brief hearing, the judge sent CM Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15. The accused has also moved an application to be provided with a special diet, medicines, books and religious locket which he wore while being in custody. Earlier, the probe agency had sought the Chief Minister's custody for seven more days. However, after hearing the arguments, the court had extended the AAP supremo's ED remand by four days till April 1, observing that there appear to be "sufficient reasons" to permit his further custodial interrogation, particularly keeping in view the submissions of the ED. The probe agency had submitted that he is required to be confronted with the material collected and statements recorded so far in the course of the investigation. The court had directed the investigation officer to ensure that further interrogation and confrontation, etc., of the accused is done without any delay. Judge Baweja had allowed CM Kejriwal to meet his family members, including his wife, daughter, PA and advocates. Moreover, the court had directed the agency to conduct the interrogation at a place with CCTV coverage and for the preservation of the footage. The ED was also asked to provide the requisite medication to CM Kejriwal and get him medically examined in accordance with the law during the period of his custody. The ED arrested CM Kejriwal on March 21 after questioning him for over two hours at his official residence in Delhi. The ED has termed CM Kejriwal the "kingpin and the key conspirator" of the alleged excise scam in collusion with other ministers of the Delhi government, AAP leaders, and other persons.

Excise policy case: Delhi court sends CM Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15

Mumbai, A special PMLA court here on Thursday remanded <keyword id="6358200" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jet-airways" source="Orion">Jet Airways</keyword> founder <keyword id="122732" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="naresh-goyal" source="Orion">Naresh Goyal</keyword> in 14-day judicial custody in a money laundering case linked to an alleged fraud of Rs 538 crore at the Canara Bank. The court accepted <keyword id="6361408" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="goyal" source="Orion">Goyal</keyword>'s request to send him to the Arthur Road jail in South Mumbai. The <keyword id="6357808" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="enforcement-directorate" source="Orion">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED) arrested Goyal on September 1 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following a long session of questioning at the central agency's office here. The 74-year-old businessman was produced before the special judge for cases under PMLA, MG Deshspande, at the end of his ED remand on Thursday. The court remanded him in judicial custody as no further remand was sought by the probe agency. The court also accepted Goyal's request to send him to the Arthur Road jail in Byculla instead of Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai. Later, Goyal moved an application saying he suffers from a host of health issues and requested that he be allowed to undergo daily medical checkups by his family physician, specialist consulting doctors and personal doctors, and be provided with medical facilities on a regular basis during his stay in the jail. In the application, Goyal said he was suffering from ischemic heart disease and was operated at the <keyword id="6425633" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="asian-heart-institute" source="Orion">Asian Heart Institute</keyword> for "treatment of 80 per cent of blockages in his left main artery which is a life threatening condition". His plea said he also has hypertension, diabetes, restricted mobility, severe shoulder impingement and neck pain due to a fall in June 2022. In another application, Goyal sought appropriate bedding on a daily basis considering his medical conditions and home-cooked food as per dietary prescription. The court has asked the prosecution to file its say on Goyal's applications. The money laundering case stems from an FIR of the <keyword id="6354889" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="central-bureau-of-investigation" source="Orion">Central Bureau of Investigation</keyword> (CBI) against Jet Airways, Goyal, his wife Anita and some former company executives of the now-grounded private airline in connection with an alleged Rs 538-crore fraud case at the Canara Bank. The FIR was registered on the bank's complaint which alleged that it sanctioned credit and loans to Jet Airways (India) Ltd to the tune of Rs 848.86 crore of which Rs 538.62 crore was outstanding.

The Kochhars were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last Friday. Dhoot was arrested on Monday. The three were produced before special judge S H Gwalani at the end of their earlier remand on Thursday. The CBI, represented by special public prosecutor A Limosin, did not seek their custody further. The court then sent all the three accused to judicial custody till January 10, 2023. The CBI had named the Kochhars and Dhoot, along with companies Nupower Renewables (NRL) managed by Deepak Kochhar, Supreme Energy Private Limited (SEPL), Videocon International Electronics Ltd (VIEL) and Videocon Industries Limited, as accused in its FIR registered in 2019 under Indian Penal Code sections related to criminal conspiracy and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The CBI has alleged that ICICI Bank had sanctioned credit facilities to the tune of Rs 3,250 crore to companies of the Videocon Group promoted by Dhoot in violation of the Banking Regulation Act, RBI guidelines, and credit policy of the bank. According to the CBI, a sanctioning committee headed by Chanda Kochhar in 2009 approved a term loan of Rs 300 crore to VIEL in contravention of the rules and policies of the bank by abusing her official position as a public servant. The day after the loan was disbursed, Dhoot transferred Rs 64 crore to NRL from VIEL through SEPL. Loan fraud case: Chanda Kochhar, Deepak Kochhar and Dhoot sent to judicial custody till Jan 10

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Programs that treat "parental alienation" can leave kids with alleged abusers for months or years.</li><li>California's legislature unanimously passed Piqui's Law, named after a 5-year-old murdered by his father following a custody dispute.</li></ul>This story was reported in partnership with the nonprofit newsroom <a href="https://www.typeinvestigations.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Type Investigations</a>.Again and again, Ana Estevez warned officials that the man she was divorcing, Aramazd Andressian, was abusive and dangerous. Nevertheless, a Los Angeles County family court judge granted him shared custody of their 5-year-old son, Piqui. One week later, on April 21, 2017, Andressian <a href="https://www.latimes.com/local/crime/la-me-andressian-sentencing-murder-20170823-story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">smothered</a> the boy to death. Engulfed by grief, Estevez, a former elementary-school principal, teamed up with her state senator, Susan Rubio, to craft legislation to prevent other children from being ordered into the custody of their abusers. This week, the California legislature <a href="https://legiscan.com/CA/text/SB331/2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed that bill</a>, known as "Piqui's Law." After voting unanimously for passage on Wednesday, the state Assembly gave Estevez a standing ovation. Estevez also attended Thursday's Senate vote, holding an urn containing Piqui's ashes. That vote was unanimous, too.The law, which will take effect unless it's vetoed by the governor, establishes training on domestic and child abuse for custody judges and bars them from ordering children who resist contact with one of their parents into "reunification treatment" that cuts them off from the other parent. That last provision is a heavy blow to reunification programs built on the concept of "parental alienation." This controversial theory, which hasn't been accepted by the psychiatric establishment, posits that when children of divorce accuse a parent of maltreatment or abuse, it's often because the parent they prefer has coached them to lie. Some programs that claim to address alienation, including <a href="https://www.buildingfamilybridges.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Family Bridges</a>, <a href="https://turningpointsforfamilies.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Turning Points for Families</a>, and <a href="https://lynnsteinberg.com/reunification-therapy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">One Family at a Time</a>, ask judges to remove children from the home of the preferred parent and prohibit that parent from contact with the children for at least 90 days. In practice, <a href="https://www.insider.com/parental-alienation-syndrome-father-alleged-child-abuse-win-custody-case-2023-5">an investigation by Insider and Type</a> found that the separations sometimes last years and leave children isolated with their abusers. Family court judges have sent hundreds of children, many of them from California, to such programs, and both Family Bridges and One Family at a Time are based in the state. Piqui's Law would close off these programs' pipeline of referrals from California courts. Young people from around the country who were sent to reunification programs have <a href="https://www.insider.com/parental-alienation-syndrome-father-alleged-child-abuse-win-custody-case-2023-5">told Insider</a> that clinicians pressured them to recant their allegations of abuse, sometimes threatening to commit them to psychiatric facilities or separate them from siblings. Many young people <a href="https://www.insider.com/adult-children-parental-alienation-treatment-therapy-program-experience-2023-5">described</a> being apart from the parent they trusted as acutely painful.In family court and beyond, "everyone is more comfortable believing that abuse didn't happen," said Danielle Pollack, the policy manager at the <a href="https://www.law.gwu.edu/national-family-violence-law-center" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Family Violence Law Center</a> at George Washington University. "The problem is, as long as we keep denying abuse, children will keep getting sent into harm's way." Targeted judicial training could help, Pollack said, since abusers can be charming and persuasive in the courtroom. "A lot of times, the average person who has no knowledge about these family-abuse dynamics or how perpetrators operate, they don't know what to think," she said. "They're like, 'I can't tell who's lying.'" A <a href="https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3448062" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2019 paper</a> by Joan Meier, the center's director, found that when women raised allegations of spousal or child abuse during custody cases, judges believed them only 36% of the time. In cases where fathers countered by claiming alienation, judges were even less likely to credit mothers, she found. Pollack and Meier helped draft federal legislation, passed as part of the Violence Against Women Act in 2022, that incentivizes states to implement protections for children during custody disputes. To qualify for funding under Kayden's Law, named after a Pennsylvania girl who was <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/philly/news/crime/kayden-mancuso-jeff-mancuso-murder-suicide-manayunk-girl-murder-suicide-langhorne-20180807.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">murdered</a> by her father during a court-ordered visit in 2018, a state must require extensive training for custody judges on abuse and trauma and prohibit them from ordering reunification treatment that isolates children from their preferred parent, among other measures. In 2022, Rubio sponsored a version of Piqui's Law but withdrew the bill amid fierce opposition from judges over the mandatory training. While this year's version establishes a robust curriculum for judges on the dynamics of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, it doesn't require a set number of training hours. The bill gained momentum over the past year thanks to heightened public awareness about reunification programs. Last October, <a href="https://www.insider.com/parental-alienation-therapy-siblings-turn-to-instagram-to-speak-out-2023-5">graphic</a> footage of two terrified children being forcibly seized for One Family at a Time and thrust into an SUV went viral on TikTok, sparking an explosion of outraged comments. The previous day, the elder sibling, Maya, then 15, had testified in family court that her mother was abusive, but her mother denied the allegations and Judge Rebecca Connolly found that they weren't credible. Connolly ordered Maya and her brother, Sebastian, into their mother's custody, banned their father and all his relatives from contacting the children, and authorized an intervention company to transport them to a four-day workshop led by the program's director, the therapist Lynn Steinberg. In late May, Maya and Sebastian <a href="https://www.insider.com/parental-alienation-therapy-siblings-turn-to-instagram-to-speak-out-2023-5">ran away from their mother's home</a> in Washington state and made their way back to Santa Cruz, where they went into hiding and posted videos about their ordeal. At a California state Assembly Judiciary Committee hearing on July 11, Maya testified in support of Piqui's Law by phone, saying she'd been treated "like a criminal" after reporting abuse.Two weeks later, Connolly ruled that Maya and Sebastian could return home to their father, saying that "the current limbo the minor children are in is not safe." But Connolly still characterized the children's allegations against their mother as "false." At the July 11 hearing, Estevez, too, criticized a California family court's response to her reports of abuse. "Piqui was fearful of his father and repeatedly begged, 'Please don't make me go, Mama,'" she testified. "The horrendous decisions made by the judges who presided over my case empowered my ex-husband to methodically plan and execute the murder of my only child." In the past 15 years, 962 children around the country have been murdered by a parental figure involved in a separation, divorce, or other family court dispute, according to the <a href="https://centerforjudicialexcellence.org/2023/07/17/cje-releases-child-safety-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Judicial Excellence</a>, a California nonprofit that helped draft both Kayden's Law and the 2022 version of Piqui's Law. The center has classified 135 of these murders as "preventable," often because, as in Piqui's case, one parent had presented evidence to the court that the other parent wasn't safe. The state with the most preventable child homicides is California, with 25, according to the center. Florida is second, with 10.If the law takes effect, California judges will be prohibited from ordering reunification treatment that entails a custody transfer, a no-contact order, forcible transport, overnight travel, threats, or other "acutely distressing circumstances." <div type="image" title="A young girl speaks before the California State Senate with her mother at her side." height="720" width="960" msid="103690242" hostid="261"></div>At a hearing in Sacramento in April, the state's Senate Judiciary Committee heard testimony from a 10-year-old girl from Carlsbad who was <a href="https://www.insider.com/parental-alienation-syndrome-father-alleged-child-abuse-win-custody-case-2023-5">removed from her mother</a>, Jill Montes, in 2022 and sent to Family Bridges with her father, Thomas Winenger, and two of her siblings. That was despite a finding by Child Welfare Services that Winenger had abused her brother. The girl testified that since the program, she and her siblings have struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression.Winenger was eventually arrested on child pornography and sexual-abuse charges. He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial. Montes officially regained custody in late May. Opponents of Piqui's Law have included not only judges but parents who said they were victims of parental alienation and therapists who claim to treat it, including Steinberg. She said in an interview earlier this year that without treatment, children who've been alienated from a parent may suffer long-term guilt and shame, along with eating disorders, drug addiction, depression, gender dysphoria, and other conditions. Officials from Family Bridges and Turning Points have repeatedly turned down requests for interviews. Recently, the Turning Points director, Linda Gottlieb, said she would only consider allowing Insider to interview her if she could interview Insider first. The American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization have both rejected proposals to recognize alienation as a psychiatric condition.In the past year and a half, legislatures in Maryland, Tennessee, and Colorado have also passed some of the protections recommended by Kayden's Law. The Justice Department will determine which states, if any, qualify for the federal funding, Pollack said.

Three accused, who were arrested in connection with alleged corruption in supply of packaged drinking <keyword id="15300" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="40" keywordseo="Water">water</keyword> in superfast trains, have now been sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Special <keyword id="6354572" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CBI">CBI</keyword> court today. 

	The accused were produced in the court after completion of their five-day CBI custody. 
 

	Special CBI judge Vinod Kumar remanded two senior rail officers -- Sandeep Silas and MS Chalia -- and a businessman -- Sharan Bihari Agrawal -- to judicial custody after CBI submitted that they were not required for further custodial interrogation.
 According to the probe agency, Silas and Chalia conspired with Agrawal and instead of taking <keyword id="62075" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rail-Neer">Rail Neer</keyword>, they had allowed some private firms to supply water in trains which resulted in a loss of Rs 6.25 crore to the exchequer. 

	Searches were conducted in which about Rs 28 crore cash was recovered out of which around Rs four lakh was counterfeit, said CBI. 
 On Saturday, Silas, a 1984-batch Indian Railway Traffic Service(<keyword id="524330" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="IRTS">IRTS</keyword>) officer, and Chalia of 1987 batch officer were taken into custody along with Agrawal, owner of R K Associates. The CBI has also registered case against seven private companies --- RK Associates Pvt Ltd, Satyam Caterers Pvt Ltd, Ambuj Hotel and <keyword id="6354553" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="real-estate">Real Estate</keyword>, PK Associates Pvt Ltd, Sunsine Pvt Ltd, Brandavan Food Product and Food World --- under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Trump celebrates rapper A$AP Rocky's release from custody in Sweden: 'It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!'

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>The deployed sailor who was given an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/judge-orders-deployed-sailor-appear-court-2014-6">ultimatum by a Michigan judge</a> to appear in court or lose his daughter suffered another setback in his custody battle when the judge <a href="http://www.militarytimes.com/article/20140816/NEWS/308160047/Deployed-submariner-loses-round-custody-battle">awarded temporary custody</a> of the girl to her mother, according to Military Times. 
Matthew Hindes is currently deployed aboard the submarine USS Michigan in the Pacific Ocean, but that didn't stop Judge Margaret Noe from ordering him to appear in court over threat of arrest and loss of his daughter Kaylee. After a public outcry, Noe moved the custody hearing to October, only two days after Hines is scheduled to return from deployment.
After announcing the stay however, Noe conducted <a href="http://www.lenconnect.com/article/20140816/NEWS/140819351">a hearing the next day</a> where she rescinded an order that Kaylee's mother Angela Hindes have a custody evaluation done, according to the Daily Telegram.
The reason for ordering the custody evaluation was the same reason that Kaylee was taken from her mother: A <a href="http://www.lenconnect.com/article/20140816/NEWS/140819351">previous investigation by Child Protective Services into child abuse</a> and Angela's plea of no contest to a reduced assault charge, according to the Daily Telegram.
Judge Noe then had another hearing without Hindes present on Aug. 4th, where she awarded temporary custody to Kaylee's mother and ordered that Hindes' current wife, and stepmother to Kaylee, arrange travel from her home in Washington to Michigan, where Angela currently resides, according to Military Times.
The <a href="https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/scra/">Servicemembers Civil Relief Act,</a> a <keyword id="6355470" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Law">law</keyword> designed to provide certain protections to military members from judicial proceedings, contracts, and rental agreements when they are called to active duty, would seem to apply in this case.
Judge Noe claims to the contrary however, ordering the child placed in the care of her mother until the proceedings take place. But Hindes' lawyer Patrick Foley disagrees, and he's filed a motion for a reversal of Noe's ruling, according to Military Times.
"The law provides no exception for 'temporary' issues and no exception for 'parenting time' issues," Foley told the Daily Telegram. "It demands a complete stay of proceedings."
