Out of the 2,813 stocks traded during the day, 1,031 stocks saw advances, while 1,703 saw declines, and another 79 remained unchanged. 72 stocks hit their 52-week high price, while 51 stocks also hit their 52-week low price today. 108 stocks hit the upper circuit, or maximum permissible price in a single trading session, while 131 stocks remained in the lower circuit. All broad market indices closed the day in red. India VIX dipped 7.97%, and amidst sectoral indices, financial services and PSU banks dropped over 1% each at the close of day's trade. With the exception of FMCG, IT, media, metal and realty, which managed marginal gains, all other sectors closed in the reds. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares explains that although a strong opening reaching higher levels was seen in the opening trade; the index failed to hold its gains and gradually erased it. In the 2nd half of trading, selling pressure intensified, and the index wiped off all its gains to end the session at 23,992.55 with a loss of 63.05 points. "A mixed trend was seen across the board, where realty and IT were the top gainers, while PSU Banks corrected the most, followed by auto. From the broader markets, midcaps and small caps corrected by 0.61% &amp; 0.39% respectively, and underperformed the frontline index. The near-term outlook for Nifty50 turned bearish, unless it gives a convincing move above 24,400 while on the downside, 23,880 will be considered as immediate support", Gaggar continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities noted that while today, the markets opened higher due to positive Asian markets, they failed to sustain these levels and closed at the day's lowest point. "Although the market did not break the previous day's lows, it closed below the closing of the previous day. Apart from Nifty realty, metal, and IT, other indices closed in the red. Based on the short-term market structure, the trend-setting levels are 23,900/78,290. If the market falls below this, it may decline to 23,700 or 23,600/78,000-77,800, where it has support from retracements and long-term averages. It's advisable to consider selective buying around this level. On the upside, the major resistance levels are 24,150/79,000 and 24,400/79,700. It's recommended to reduce weak long positions around 24,300/24,400", he said. Rajesh Bhosale, Equity Technical Analyst, Angel One highlighted that the momentum favored the bears, and that the possibility of intermittent rebounds cannot be ruled out. "Therefore, any such bounces, similar to today, should ideally be viewed as selling opportunities. As for key levels, 24,250 appears to be immediate resistance, while the 24,350 - 24,400 range remains a challenging barrier for the bulls. Only a close above this range could potentially revive some positive momentum in the market. On the downside, immediate support is seen at 23,900 - 23,850, below which the Nifty may slip towards the 23,600 - 23,550 levels. Traders are advised to monitor these levels closely and adjust their trades accordingly, while also keeping an eye on global developments, as our markets are particularly influenced by global momentum", Bhosale continued. On the global front, oil prices rose by over 1% today, bouncing back from yesterday's losses, due to supply concerns stemming from the escalating Middle East conflict and strong U.S. services data. However, the fear of Iran retaliating against recent attacks in the region has increased fears of a broader war, threatening global supply stability and impacting oil forecasts. Furthermore, the US ISM Services PMI for July came in at 51.4, slightly above the month's forecast (51) and higher than June's reading (48.8). This is a positive sign, since it indicates a rebound in services sector, improvement in business activities, new orders and employment across industries like finance, healthcare and more. "With the Federal Reserve’s interest rate strategy under scrutiny, any positive US economic data could support the case for rate cuts", continued Chouhan. In response, global indices were seen trading in green. Nikkei 225 in particular, which had dropped around 12.4% yesterday, witnessing its worst crash since 1987, sharply rebounded about 3,217.04 points, or 10.23% to close at 34,675.46 points.

Out of the 2,771 stocks traded during the day, 1,059 saw advances, while 1,630 saw declines, while another 82 remained unchanged. 152 stocks hit their 52-week high price and 32 stocks hit their 52-week low price as well. 108 stocks remained in the upper circuit during the day, while 81 stocks remained in the lower circuit, or hit their minimum permissible trading price during a singular trading session. Amidst broad market indices, Nifty next 50 was down by 1.30%, Nifty 100 was down by 1.10%, Nifty 200 dipped by 1.08%, Nifty 500 was down by 1.05% and midcap 50 was down by 1.43%. With the exception of India VIX, which rose 11.4% during the day, all other indices closed the day in red. As for sectoral indices, IT was down by 2.41%, metal was down by 2.70%, PSU banks were down by 1.72%, <keyword id="20304716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="realty" source="keywords">realty</keyword> was down by 3.53% and oil and gas dipped by 1.24% during the day. Only healthcare and pharma indices closed the day in green. <h2>What are the experts saying?</h2>Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd noted that today, the markets traded under pressure and lost over a percent due to weak global cues. After a gap-down start, Nifty fluctuated within a range and eventually closed near the day's low. Most sectors mirrored the benchmark's decline, with realty, auto, and metal being the top losers. The broader indices also fell, each losing over half a percent. "Nifty struggled to surpass the hurdle at 25,100, and Friday's close suggests a potential further dip toward the immediate support zone around the 20-day EMA around 24,500 level. Besides earnings, participants are also taking cues from the global front, particularly the US, which has been experiencing significant volatility recently. Given this scenario, it is advisable to limit overnight leveraged positions and opt for hedged trades", he continued. Amol Athawale, VP-Technical Research, Kotak securities explained that today, our markets followed the trend of world equity markets, which closed with a massive drop in the last few days. They were down due to weak economy-related data as well as disappointing quarterly numbers. However, our markets held up relatively better than world markets, which fell by over 1.50%. Weekly, Nifty fell by 0.40%, while Sensex was down by 300 points. "Realty, auto, and IT fell by over 2% weekly, while the Nifty pharma index was up nominally. We saw particular buying interest in new-age companies after Zomato's Q1 numbers. Technically, the market managed to climb to new highs during the week. Nifty and Sensex achieved major milestones by crossing 25000 on the Nifty and 82000 on the Sensex. However, currently, most stocks and indices are close to important resistance levels, and we may see consolidation for a few days or weeks", said Athawale. "On an immediate basis, the market is finding support between 24,600/80,900 and 24,500/80,600 levels. On the other hand, until the market crosses 25,100/82,200, we may see a range-bound movement in the market. The strategy should be to buy selective stocks between 24,600 and 24,500/80,900 and 80,600 levels. A close below 24,500/80,600 may take the market towards 24,250/79,900 or 24,100/79,500 levels. Any bounce towards 24,900-25,000/81,700-82000 levels will be an opportunity to reduce long positions", he continued.

Stock market closing: Sensex, Nifty close the week in red, Sensex tumbles over 800 points

However, a sharp correction in IT and tech stocks limited the rise. During the day, it jumped 474.43 points or 0.65 per cent to 73,115.62. The NSE Nifty advanced 84.80 points or 0.39 per cent to 22,096.75. Global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.22 per cent to USD 85.59 a barrel. The BSE benchmark jumped 539.50 points or 0.75 per cent to close at 72,641.19 on Thursday. The NSE Nifty climbed 172.85 points or 0.79 per cent to 22,011.95.

"The uncertainty regarding the Fed decision is over with the Fed keeping the rates unchanged and refraining from a hawkish message. The Fed chief's statement that "inflation has eased substantially while the labour market has remained strong" conveys conviction about the soft landing of the US economy and the possibility of probably three rate cuts this year. "The response from the market was the US indices racing to record highs. This favourable global construct will have its positive impact on Indian markets too," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, <keyword id="19933343" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="geojit-financial-services" source="keywords">Geojit Financial Services</keyword>. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.61 per cent to USD 86.47 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 2,599.19 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data. "In a market buoyed by record closing on Wall Street and a confident stance from the Fed, Nifty is poised for significant gains, supported by optimistic economic projections," said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd. The 30-share BSE benchmark rebounded 89.64 points or 0.12 per cent to settle at 72,101.69 on Wednesday. The NSE Nifty climbed 21.65 points or 0.10 per cent to 21,839.10.

"Fed's rate decision, more importantly, the Fed commentary tonight, will decide the trend in the mother market US," said <keyword id="19931025" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="v-k-vijayakumar" source="keywords">V K Vijayakumar</keyword>, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. The 30-share BSE benchmark tanked 736.37 points or 1.01 per cent to settle at 72,012.05 on Tuesday. The NSE Nifty slumped 238.25 points or 1.08 per cent to finish at 21,817.45.

Markets rebound in early trade on rally in global equities, foreign fund inflows

New Delhi, <keyword id="19971670" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="JSW-Steel" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="JSW Steel" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="JSW Steel">JSW Steel</keyword> has posted a 65 per cent fall in consolidated <keyword id="19942166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-profit" source="keywords">net profit</keyword> at Rs 1,322 crore for the March 2024 quarter impacted by <keyword id="21700627" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="raw-materials-costs" source="keywords">raw materials costs</keyword> and some other expenses. It had clocked Rs 3,741 crore net profit during the fourth quarter of the last fiscal, the company said in an exchange filing on Friday. The company's total income also fell to Rs 46,511.28 crore from Rs 47,427 crore in January-March FY23. During the period under review, its expenses stood at Rs 44,401 crore, as against Rs 43,170 crore a year ago. Among the expenses, the cost of raw materials consumed by the company surged to Rs 24,541 crore from 23,905 crore in the January-March FY23. While "other expenses" increased to Rs 7,197 crore from Rs 6,653 crore in the year-ago period. In FY24, the net profit rose to Rs 8,973 crore from Rs 4139 crore in FY23. The income for the full year stood at Rs 1,76,010 crore, up from Rs 1,66,990 crore. The board of directors of the company announced a final dividend of Rs 7.30 for FY24. JSW Steel Q4 net profit falls 65% to ₹1,322 crore

Mumbai, Equity benchmark indices Sensex and <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> hit their fresh record peaks in early trade on Thursday amid firm trend in the US markets and foreign fund inflows. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 159.18 points to reach an all-time peak of 74,245.17 in early trade. The Nifty went up by 49.6 points to 22,523.65. However, later the markets turned volatile and both the benchmark indices were trading between highs and lows. Two, Bank Nifty is emerging stronger led by private sector majors like ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Kotak Bank. Three, regulatory action on some NBFCs have impacted sentiments in the entire NBFC space, which, in turn, is improving sentiments in the high quality private banking space," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. Global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.13 per cent to USD 82.85 a barrel. The BSE benchmark jumped 408.86 points or 0.55 per cent to settle at a new record high of 74,085.99 on Wednesday. The Nifty climbed 117.75 points or 0.53 per cent to settle at a fresh closing peak of 22,474.05.

Yesterday, the BSE benchmark tumbled 941.88 points, or 1.18%, to settle at 78,782.24, the lowest closing level since August 6. The Nifty had also tanked 309 points, or 1.27%, to close at 23,995.35. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued with their hefty exodus, offloading equities worth Rs 4,329.79 crore today, according to exchange data. So far in November, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have put in Rs 2,558.75 crore in Indian markets. On NSE, both banks and financial services indices inched up by 1.94% and 1.98% respectively during the day. While PSU bank counters were up by 1.84%, private banks surged ahead with a 1.94% growth during the day. Metals were amidst the highest gainers, rising 2.84% during the day. All broad market indices closed the day in green, except for India VIX, which tumbled 4.08%.

IT services major HCL Technologies on Monday reported a 10.51% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹4,235 crore in the July-September quarter of FY25, as the company raised the lower band of its growth guidance on the back of better-than-expected performance. Reliance Industries on Monday reported a 5% fall in the July-September quarter net profit as weak oil refining and petrochemical business hurt operational performance. "The sharp cut in Brent crude by 3% is a macro positive for India, but CPI inflation for September coming worse-than-expected at 5.49% is a concern...," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. Soaring vegetable prices pushed the retail inflation rate to a nine-month high of 5.49% in September, according to government data released on Monday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude dropped 2.98% to $75.15 a barrel. In <keyword id="20155107" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asian-markets" source="keywords">Asian markets</keyword>, Seoul and Tokyo were quoting in the positive territory while Shanghai and Hong Kong traded lower. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth ₹3,731.59 crore on Monday, according to exchange data. However, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought equities worth ₹2,278.09 crore. "Even though FIIs continue to sell, the intensity of their selling has come down reducing the pressure on largecaps," Vijayakumar added. The BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 591.69 points or 0.73% to settle at 81,973.05 on Monday. The Nifty climbed 163.70 points or 0.66% to 25,127.95. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 1.15 per cent to $74.75 a barrel. "In Tuesday's trade, FIIs were net sellers of ₹5,579 crore, while crude oil prices surged above $70 per barrel amid escalating tensions in the Middle East," said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd. "Global markets turned topsy-turvy under the threat of rising geopolitical risk in the Middle-East and plausible increase in Yen interest rate which can reduce cross country investments in equity. On the contrary, the Chinese market had a resurgence due to a large stimulus package and cheap valuation. India also weakened under the global pressure and premium valuation while metals are expected to outperform in the near-term," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services. “The domestic benchmark indices opened negatively, aligning with weak Asian cues. Nifty started the day with a gap down, remained under pressure throughout the session, and ultimately closed on a negative note at 25,811. The volatility index, INDIA VIX, surged by 6.89%, settling at 12.79, indicating a rise in market volatility,” said Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research at Asit C. The BSE Sensex jumped 666.25 points or 0.78 per cent to settle at an all-time high of 85,836.12. During the day, it reached a record intra-day peak of 85,930.43, surging 760.56 points or 0.89 per cent. The benchmark is just 69.57 points away from the 86,000-peak. "There are no immediate near-term triggers that can take the market sharply up or down. Up moves may attract selling by FIIs who are likely to move some more money to China and Hong Kong since these markets are cheap and are witnessing an uptrend now," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. But FII selling is unlikely to push the market down significantly since the ample domestic liquidity can easily absorb such selling, Vijayakumar said. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 1.80 per cent to USD 72.14 a barrel. The BSE benchmark climbed 255.83 points or 0.30 per cent to settle at an all-time high of 85,169.87 on Wednesday. The Nifty climbed 63.75 points or 0.25 per cent to close at a record high of 26,004.15.
