But it wasn't academic successes or technical prowess that landed me these internships.I created an authentic brand that shows recruiters who I am.<h2 id="89566fd1-d898-4b73-b6e4-3ee71a0c42ab">I started volunteering to teach basic coding in high school</h2>In high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in tech, so I attended a two-week web development camp at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.kodewithklossy.com/">Kode With Klossy</a>, a free coding camp for teen girls. I fell in love with their mission to make tech more inclusive for underrepresented communities and knew I wanted to bring that advocacy to my career. The next year I became an assistant instructor, teaching hundreds of young women the basics of HTML, CSS, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/what-is-javascript">Javascript</a>.Going into college at the University of Maryland, I continued volunteering with Kode with Klossy while pursuing a degree in information sciences with a minor in computer science.<h2 id="2ed3b817-a3c2-4d95-893e-28c09328882a">My internship at JP Morgan was completely unexpected</h2>I spent my freshman year focusing on my studies, but during my sophomore year, I decided to attend my university's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tips-how-to-find-navigate-stand-out-virtual-career-fair">virtual career fair</a>. I wasn't planning on pursuing an internship that summer, but I wanted to dip my toes in the water and see what the job landscape looked like. I unexpectedly hit it off with a JP Morgan representative who resonated with my <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/diverse-talent-diversity-retaining-chief-people-officer-2024-3">passion for inclusion</a>.Although he wasn't a recruiter, he told me I'd be a great fit for their software engineering summer internship and gave me a link to apply. So, I did. Every time I finished a step in the application process, I messaged him on LinkedIn, and he advocated for me to the recruiters.After an expedited <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/job-interview-mistakes-to-avoid-hiring-manager-2024-3">interview process,</a> thanks to my internal connection, I received an offer to work out of the Wilmington, Delaware, office the summer after my sophomore year. It wasn't necessarily the glamorous city I'd hoped for, but it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.I took another internship provided by Kode With Klossy at Estee Lauder in their software engineering department. The first half of my summer was spent at JP Morgan, and the second half was spent at Estee Lauder, with only one week of chaotic overlap between the two.<h2 id="19e94141-9f46-41c5-b65b-b250bd578242">I started building my brand on LinkedIn</h2>I was doing so much that summer, so I shared my volunteer, internship, and professional updates on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/umehabiba/">LinkedIn</a>. I saw the platform as an underutilized professional development space and used its chain-reaction algorithm to garner attention as a force in tech and DE&amp;I.I posted three times a week, including internship achievements, visits to Kode With Klossy camps, and key takeaways from each week's Kode With Klossy speaker series. I focused less on curating impactful or pretty posts and more on keeping my network up-to-date with my milestones.As more people reached my profile, I wanted to make my brand unmistakable. I added DE&amp;I to my career headline, got a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-professional-headshots-pictures-job-search-2023-4">professional headshot</a> for my profile picture, and wrote an extensive bio that told the story of who I was and what initiatives I cared about. I was scared of my commitment to LinkedIn being cringey, but the near-immediate payoff made it worth it.<h2 id="7072a11b-3638-4ef9-a53f-fabbca3ed831">LinkedIn landed me my next internship</h2>Within weeks of building my LinkedIn presence, recruiters from notable companies like Oracle, HubSpot, and Cisco Meraki started filling my DMs with job offers. I hopped on calls with every recruiter, regardless of my interest in pursuing a job with them, to build industry connections.A recruiter from Cisco Meraki asked me to apply for a full-time software engineer role. I told them I was still in college but would be interested in any <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/summer-internship-competition-handshake-2024-6">internship opportunities</a>. Within a month, I locked in an internship with them for the summer after my junior year.I continued posting on LinkedIn throughout that year, accepting more recruiter interviews and building my network.<h2 id="aea1f62c-3c64-40d2-bb42-d0813da7a53e">I've adapted my résumé for AI</h2>I applied to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-internship-helped-twins-land-full-time-tech-job-2022-5">Microsoft internship program</a> four times before landing it this summer. I'm sure that my LinkedIn presence and growing number of professional experiences helped my chances. Still, I don't think I could've gotten the job without drastically changing<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-this-is-an-excellent-resume-2013-11"> my résumé</a>.Résumés these days are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.indeed.com/hire/c/info/ai-resume-screening?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjww5u2BhDeARIsALBuLnOqJiNp3foedw1gQkyjbGeh_JA6g52DUPK0nF3K8Wmrk3gJAY26JhkaAgN3EALw_wcB&amp;aceid=&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds">parsed through AI software</a> before even landing in the hands of a recruiter, so I optimized my résumé for AI by removing color and shaving it down to one page.I also ditched the "about me" section and only included my GPA upon request. I used the extra space to add more quantitative data about my tangible impacts at a given company. In my experience, numbers have always been more alluring to recruiters than a huge chunk of text.Most importantly, I did to my résumé exactly what I did to my LinkedIn: embodied a brand and told a story. My résumé isn't just a highlight reel of my most flashy achievements: it shows meaningful experiences representing my mission for inclusion in tech.<h2 id="17940356-eaf3-4614-b3b5-56d0c38a7fd1">I used GitHub to prep for my Microsoft interview</h2>I didn't hear back from Microsoft for months after applying for its internship until I stumbled on an unexpected email telling me I'd moved on to the final round of interviews. I was immediately skeptical of its legitimacy because I hadn't even done a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/12-things-you-need-to-know-to-ace-your-next-phone-interview-2012-2">phone screening</a> or online assessment. After doing what any normal human would do — consult Reddit for advice — I hesitantly accepted an interview scheduled a few weeks later.I was told to prepare for two 45-minute interviews, one of which was behavioral and the other was a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tips-on-how-to-ace-technical-interview-software-developers-2021-1">coding test</a>. Many people like <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/leetcode-coding-test-apple-amazon-google-technical-interview-prep-job-2021-11">LeetCode</a> for coding prep, but I went to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/github-communities-stormy-peters-open-source-2022-7">GitHub</a> repository, which has every Microsoft-specific problem broken down into explainer videos. I prefer having a step-by-step breakdown of how someone approached a problem.I also ensured I went into the interview knowing exactly what I wanted. I confidently told them about my passion for DE&amp;I and requested to work in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/books-to-read-if-job-in-software-engineering">back-end engineering</a>. In fact, I told them if they only had an offer for the front end, don't hire me. I got an internship offer the next week.<h2 id="d0926ab2-857b-4f65-a703-b6d78e068145">My brand is my biggest strength</h2>All of my successes come down to my commitment to my brand. Everything from my LinkedIn to my résumé tells a story of my career and personal aspirations. How American Express, DoorDash, JP Morgan Chase, and more are using AI to improve business

<keyword id="21354159" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-government-bonds" source="keywords">Indian Government Bonds</keyword> are set to be included in the JP Morgan Government Bond Index, <keyword id="20036608" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Emerging-Market" source="keywords">Emerging Market</keyword> (GBI-EM) from June 28. The inclusion will take place over a period of 10 months starting June 28, 2024, through to March 31, 2025. India will have a 1% weightage in the <keyword id="19967624" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="JPMorgan" source="keywords">JPMorgan</keyword> Emerging Market (EM) Bond index, which will gradually rise to 10% over a 10-month period, at an inclusion rate of about 1% weight per month. The inclusion is estimated to bring $20-25 billion of inflows into the Indian bond market. However, India's index-eligible bonds have already attracted $10 billion since the inclusion was announced in September last year. On September 21, 2023, Global index provider JPMorgan announced that it would include Indian government's bonds in its emerging market indices. Only Indian government bonds issued by the Reserve Bank of India (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) under the <keyword id="12313402" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fully-Accessible-Route" source="Orion">Fully Accessible Route</keyword> (FAR) will be included in the indices. All FAR-designated IGBs maturing after December 31, 2026, will be eligible to be included in the JPMorgan Emerging Market (EM) Bond index. In the post-monetary policy press conference on June 7, RBI Governor <keyword id="6359111" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shaktikanta-Das" source="Orion">Shaktikanta Das</keyword> said the central bank is not worried about the big <keyword id="20072947" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-fund-inflows" source="keywords">foreign fund inflows</keyword> from global bond inclusion. "The RBI has a number of instrumentalities to manage the flows. We have managed it in the past and we will manage it in future also. No worries on that," Das said. Experts believe the index inclusion-related heavy flows is likely to boost demand for Indian government securities in the current fiscal, once short-term liquidity issues in certain papers get sorted. Vishal Gupta, Co-founder of IndiaBonds.com says the inclusion of Indian government bonds in JP Morgan Index is a watershed moment for the <keyword id="22201110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fixed-income-markets" source="keywords">fixed-income markets</keyword> in India. "This compulsorily puts Indian bond markets on the radar of global bond investors and although initial investments are supposed to be to the tune of $25-30 billion, index inclusion paves the way for this number to keep growing in the next few years," said Vishal Gupta. Gupta further added that it is important to grow the investor base for any market, and index inclusion helps in expanding the number of players, which further benefits everyone in the form of additional market liquidity. "Global investors have been looking to allocate capital to emerging markets given their reluctance to invest in other large countries like Russia or China in the past couple of years. Hence, the timing of this index inclusion is also almost perfect. I reckon investments will start via government bonds initially, but filter into AAA to lower credit ratings as well in the years to come", he continued.

"It has to be OK to ask the questions, to not know, to not be afraid, and then to keep going with the questions."Erdoes spoke Tuesday morning at "Leading with AI," a conference hosted by Harvard's Digital Data Design Institute, on which she serves as an advisor, and Harvard Business School, where the school's alums and leaders in business, technology, and academia discussed the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence. She believes successfully implementing AI requires curiosity from employees at all ranks — from managers at the top to workers at the bottom."If we can infuse that in all of our people, we will move faster to get to what we all really want to get to," and that's understanding if there are "entirely new products, processes, procedures, solutions for clients," she said.She said that once people learn to leverage AI, they can "make the gunk go faster" in their jobs and help clients in more complex ways.The looming threat of AI is that it'll advance to the point where it eliminates some jobs. But Erdoes hopes it will only eliminate "the no-joy" work that "people shouldn't have to do.""Companies that take their employees through that journey and they combine the human with the AI to augment their job, their joy and the ability to serve the client will be successful," She said.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Michael Cembalest predicted that President Joe Biden would drop his reelection plans before November.</li><li>The prediction, published on January 1, came true on Sunday when Biden dropped out.</li></ul>JPMorgan Asset Management strategist Michael Cembalest was <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jpmorgan-strategist-biden-could-drop-out-of-2024-election-2024-1">right on the money</a> when he predicted that President <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-joe-biden-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Joe Biden</a> would <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/joe-biden-dropping-out-presidential-race-2024-7">drop out from the 2024 presidential race</a>.Cembalest, who chairs the company's market and investment strategy, made the prediction in his list of "<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://assets.jpmprivatebank.com/content/dam/jpm-pb-aem/global/en/documents/eotm/outlook-2024.pdf#page=41">top 10 possible surprises for 2024.</a>" The list was published in JPMorgan Asset Management's January 1 "Eye on the Market Outlook.""President Biden withdraws sometime between Super Tuesday and the November election, citing health reasons. However, he did note that the president "has a low approval rating for a President with ~10% job creation since his inauguration."On Sunday, Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Vice President <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/joe-biden-should-not-drop-out-election-prediction-allan-lichtman-2024-7">Kamala Harris</a> as his successor.It remains unclear how the Democratic Party will pick Biden's replacement. Some have called for an <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/joe-biden-dropping-out-what-happens-next-2024-7">open convention</a> where potential contenders can fight it out, while others are advocating for Harris to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/democrats-endorsing-kamala-harris-to-replace-joe-biden-2024-7">take over Biden's campaign and the nomination immediately</a>.That said, Biden's departure from the race wasn't the only interesting prediction Cembalest made. His list, which included technical forecasts on foreign currencies and the loan market, also touched on technological and geopolitical developments.For one, Cembalest wrote in his list that "the driverless car backlash is coming.""I believe that a possible backlash is coming from citizens who believe, as in the case of the despised urban scooter plague, that convenience for some results in dangers and inconvenience for others," he wrote, citing the declining stock prices for companies selling <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/what-is-lidar">LiDAR</a>, a type of sensor used by self-driving cars.If Cembalest is right on that count, that would be a huge bummer for EV entrepreneurs like <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk">Elon Musk</a>. Musk has bet <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla">Tesla's</a> future on a flashy <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-says-tesla-robotaxi-event-delay-due-to-redesign-2024-7">robotaxi concept</a> that is set to be unveiled in October.On the geopolitical front, Cembalest said that we shouldn't expect a resolution to the Ukraine war anytime soon."Despite Russia reportedly losing 87% of its prewar active troops (315,000 killed or injured) and two-thirds of its tanks, there is no ceasefire, and the war drags on for another year," he wrote in January.Cembalest's prediction aligns with what the Biden administration has said about the conflict.In May, US national security advisor Jake Sullivan said the Ukrainians will be able to "<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jake-sullivan-ukraine-can-mount-counteroffensive-on-russia-in-2025-2024-5">hold the line</a>" this year and could look to mount a counteroffensive in 2025.US Army Gen. Christopher Cavoli told the Armed Services Committee during an April hearing that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russias-army-15-percent-larger-when-attacked-ukraine-us-general-2024-4">Russia's army is now 15% bigger</a> than when it invaded Ukraine."Over the past year, Russia increased its front-line troop strength from 360,000 to 470,000," Cavoli said in his April 11 <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.armed-services.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/cavoli_statement.pdf">statement</a> to Congress. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Anne Lester is the former head of retirement solutions for JP Morgan Asset Management.</li><li>Lester managed billions of other people's money but often maxed out her own credit cards in her 20s.</li></ul>I was 26 with my life crammed into three suitcases. I had just finished an internship in Tokyo and was flying to Italy to move in with my boyfriend. I was in the final round for a great job and was excited to start my new life. I walked up to the counter and handed my one-way ticket to the agent. The man frowned at my comically large bags and heaved them onto the scale."Sumimasen," he said in Japanese, "the allowance is one normal-sized bag. You need to pay a fee for oversized luggage.""How much?" I asked.The man glanced at the scale and punched a few numbers into his computer. "You owe 57,000 yen."I was fairly fluent in Japanese, but I must have misheard him. There was no way I could afford the equivalent of $400 — far more than I had.Hands trembling, I handed him my Visa card. I knew what was going to happen, but I hoped for a miracle."I'm sorry, your card was declined." Tears welled in my eyes. My credit card was maxed out and had been for years; I could barely afford to make the minimum payments.It wasn't supposed to be like this. I had gotten my master's degree, won a Fulbright scholarship and worked on Capitol Hill. I'd just wrapped up an internship at Chase Bank. Yet, here I was, a broke twenty-something who couldn't afford to get her bags on an airplane. How could I expect to start a career managing other people's money if I couldn't even manage my own?As I broke down, the ticketing agent sighed, eyeing the long line of passengers behind me. He waved his hand, "Just go." I felt like the world's biggest failure as I boarded my flight.<h2>Understanding I wasn't alone helped me change my spending habits</h2>I have always been a spender and often lived paycheck to paycheck.Six months later, I was settling into a career in asset management at J.P. Morgan. I still had a ton of debt and bloated expenses. Rent, student loans, saving for a wedding — everything was a priority except for my future. I was barely contributing to my retirement savings. Mainly because I was in my 20s and retirement felt distant, but also because of my poor spending habits.There's always something tempting to spend on. And I'm not alone. Saving money is hard for many people at all income levels. This became more apparent the longer I worked in retirement solutions.At J.P. Morgan, I was asked to design a brand-new product: a suite of Target Date Funds. The development process involved lots of data-driven research about how Americans save for retirement and why our brains get in the way of implementing our goals.Once I realized I was just like everyone else struggling to resist temptation, it became easier to shift my habits. I went from believing I was a failure because I couldn't save to developing a set of rules for myself that made saving automatic and removed most financial temptations from my path.<h2>Saving money is hard, and technology is making it harder</h2>Even after working for almost three decades as a portfolio manager and 15 years of applying everything I learned about behavioral economics and building retirement funds to my own life, I still find it hard to save money.It does get easier with practice, but I still rely on many of the rules I developed, like making sure I never go shopping without a list, to manage my spending today.Targeted ads and deals in your inbox mean every Google search stalks you perpetually. But technology has also made saving more difficult in less obvious ways.Digital payment has removed a lot of friction from the act of spending money. Buying things now is almost completely frictionless. You don't even have to open your wallet — just tap your phone or Apple watch, and money disappears.Fifty years ago, if you wanted to buy something, you had to physically go to the store and pay with cash or write a check. There was a lot of time between the decision to buy something and the act of buying it, and a lot of friction in the process.I've learned one of the best ways to save is to find ways to slow down your spending — create friction for yourself. Here are some strategies I've developed that can help:<ol><li>Have a spending plan. Be brutally honest with how much you can afford to spend every day/week/month and keep track. If you spend too much one day/week/month, make sure you cut back the next one.</li><li>Pay in cash. The idea that paying for things can cause varying pain levels was pioneered by a Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon, Ofer Zellermayer, in the 1990s. Research has shown that paying cash for things is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cmu.edu/homepage/practical/2007/winter/spending-til-it-hurts.shtml#:~:text=%22Credit%20cards%20effectively,hand%20over%20bills.%22">more painful</a>. The more uncomfortable the process is, the less likely you are to buy something.</li><li>Write checks. It will make you feel like everyone in line behind you is staring at you — and they probably are. Any time you make an experience painful, you will avoid it.</li><li>Make lists. Don't let yourself go into a store or visit a shop's website unless you have something specific you want to buy. If it isn't on your list, it doesn't go into your shopping cart. That same advice goes for trying things on, too, if you like clothes. Once you see how well something fits and how great it looks, you are far more likely to buy it. The best way to avoid temptation? Don't go there!</li><li>Set aside a specific time, say once a week, and a specific place, like your kitchen table, for online shopping. You are less likely to feel pressure to buy or to buy emotionally when you are being methodical about your purchases, from having a list to only allowing yourself to purchase at a specific time.</li><li>Avoid "auto-renew" whenever you can. According to a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.crresearch.com/blog/subscription-service-statistics-and-costs/">survey </a>done by C+R Research in 2022, the average American has over $219 in monthly subscriptions. Nearly half of the study's participants said they had forgotten about a subscription and were paying for something they no longer used.</li><li>Be kind to yourself, especially if you aren't consistently hitting your savings goals. See if you can figure out if something is consistently derailing you and view each slip as a chance to learn more about yourself. Building up your savings and your savings muscles is a long-term process.</li></ol>With a few simple friction-creating changes, you'll take powerful steps to redefine yourself as a saver.

It has been edited for length and clarity.I was very fortunate in my career to be one of the most senior people at JP Morgan. I was a managing director and the number two guy in business banking nationally when I saw the images <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pictures-ferguson-protests-2014-8">coming out</a> of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ferguson-protests-police-tear-gas-michael-brown-shooting-death-2014-8">Ferguson</a>. I thought, "It's 2014, and what we're seeing is no different than what was going on in 1968."The people protesting were making a statement, and it was coming out of a place of wanting change. I thought, "How can I use my time and talents, which is financial services, to bring an economic justice agenda to the social justice agenda?" And that inspired me to start MoCaFi.Martin Luther King, Jr. talked about universal basic income and guaranteed basic income just before he passed away, and I feel that we as a company are very fortunate to be standing on the shoulders of others to bring these powerful ideas into the marketplace.We've done about a dozen UBI and GBI programs around the country. We've facilitated programs in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and San Francisco, among others. Some of them are through MGI, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.mayorsforagi.org/">Mayors for a Guaranteed Income</a>. We're finding that what we're doing resonates with cities and counties. They see the value of it.One of the things I would say in response to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/arizona-gop-ban-guaranteed-basic-income-programs-homelessness-poverty-2024-2">red</a> <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/basic-income-programs-politics-democrats-republicans-election-2024-3">states opposing this</a> is we're not a political entity. We're just trying to provide a high-quality platform that ensures that a UBI or GBI program fulfills its mission so that the individuals have access to the cash and can move forward. It's hard to argue with the idea of getting resources from government to people more efficiently. Even my most conservative friends can get behind a more efficient government.We are facilitating payments in a way that reduces all the friction. We have a disbursement platform, and then we have a demand deposit account. We're trying to take individuals receiving a UBI and GBI and bring financial coaching and resources to them. They don't have to operate in cash or cash checks. They can create a MoCaFi bank account that's FDIC-insured. We can open up accounts for undocumented people. We can open up accounts for people regardless of their credit score. Now, they've got a pathway to economic stability.There's an old narrative demonizing low-income people who receive government resources. That's the wrong lens in my personal view. Most, if not all, Americans are getting some benefit from the federal government. Why is a universal basic income that much different? Why not streamline the process so the most vulnerable among us can get access to those funds?People use the money for the intended purpose. It increases savings. It decreases poverty. It increases education. It reduces the need for crime. It gives people more dignity. It makes our neighborhoods safer. It enables families to get jobs they couldn't get otherwise because they're paying for childcare or healthcare. The proof is in the pudding.

<ul class="summary-list"><li><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/charlie-javice-frank-jp-morgan-fraud-case-witholding-documents-slack-2023-10">Charlie Javice</a> appeared for a pretrial hearing Thursday in her fraud case.</li><li>The Frank founder's lawyer accused federal prosecutors of withholding key evidence in the case. </li></ul>A federal judge on Thursday ruled that prosecutors must compel JP Morgan to find more evidence that could help <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/charlie-javice-frank-criminal-charges-financial-fraud-jpmorgan-chase-2023-1">Charlie Javice</a>, the founder of the financial aid startup Frank, in her defense in her criminal fraud trial.The judge also set an October 2024 start-date for the criminal trial of the embattled entrepreneur.Javice, 30, is accused of defrauding JP Morgan Chase out of $175 million in 2021 by selling it a startup business called Frank which purported to help students navigate securing college loans. Federal prosecutors say that of the four million clients Javice claimed to have, only a few hundred thousand were legitimate.On Thursday, inside U.S. Federal Court in Manhattan, lawyers for Javice and a co-defendant argued for more documents from JP Morgan Chase. Javice's lawyer, Alex Spiro, argued that the government in its complaint had "cherry picked" documents to make his client look culpable, but failed to adequately search for documents that might exonerate her. "Give us the one really bad email and don't give us something else," Spiro said in court, describing the government's protocol."That's not how this case should proceed," he added.Assistant U.S. Attorney Dina McLeod argued that the government was fair in sharing its evidence with the defense."These emails, if we have them, they have them," she said.Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein ruled that in a handful of instances where specific emails were referenced in the complaint, the government needed to compel JP Morgan Chase to produce all emails in those chains, and all documents cited within."The government is to require JP Morgan Chase to review its files and to assure that all parts of the chain in which these emails are a part have been provided, and all documents referenced," Judge Hellerstein said from the bench.However the judge ruled against the defense's request that the government compel the financial behemoth to turn over additional emails from specific employees referenced in the complaint.Spiro and a lawyer for Javice co-defendant Olivier Amar, Sean Buckley, said they soon would file a subpoena to get those additional emails, based on a different legal rule than the one they used to argue in court on Thursday.Spiro repeated that he sought, "all communications around all communications" that they saw fit to quote in their accusation.Judge Hellerstein warned that the defense's broad requests for documents was appropriate for a civil case, not a criminal one. He set a date for both sides to meet again in court on January 17, 2024 to work out further scheduling.He also set October 28, 2024 as a trial start date.Meanwhile, a Delaware judge ruled that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/charlie-javice-jpmorgan-legal-bills-2023-10">JP Morgan Chase</a> is violating a commitment that it made upon acquiring Frank to pay a significant portion of Javice's legal bills. Her lawyers say that JP Morgan Chase owes them $835,000 of the around $3.8 million they have so far charged.
