Its rapid detection kit currently holds 80% market share. In order to further expand its reach in the country, the brand has been engaging in a lot of ATL and BTL activities while also regularly coming up with communications that talk about different pregnancy-related issues. Its campaign, #SheIsCompleteInHerself for this year’s International Women's Day spoke about infertility in women with an aim of sensitizing people towards the issue. Over the past few years, the brand has also taken on popular faces like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anushka Sharma and more recently Kajal Aggarwal, to reach out to their audiences while also focussing on specific markets. The aim is now not only to go deeper into the country but also start conversations around important issues related to pregnancy. We recently spoke to Joy Chatterjee, General Manager, Sales &amp; Marketing, Mankind Pharma who told us their strategy to grow the brand so far, its marketing game plan and how it aims to expand its presence in different markets by going deeper into the country and by starting conversations around sensitive topics around pregnancy to sensitize and educate people. Excerpts: Q) What has helped Prega News capture the maximum market share in the category? Prega News is a <a name="_GoBack"></a>rapid detection kit that gives accurate results in 5 minutes and at the same time is convenient to use. The best part of the product is that a women can test urine samples anytime of the day. These factors are the foundational core of the product. Over the years, we have built the credibility of the product brand regarding its accuracy and convenience. This has benefited us, and whenever expecting mothers buy Prega News, they do it because there is an assurance that it will give truthful results. With this approach, we focused extensively on ATL and BTL activities. In the beginning, our objective was to spread awareness among the target audience, and focus on the distribution and supply chain so people easily get the product. Also, we hold the market share by 80%. The only way left for a brand to grow is by expanding the market itself and, thus, getting more and more women to use the product confidently. Q) The current penetration of the category is 17% which Prega News aims increase in the next five years. What will be your strategy to make this target a reality? We are building awareness in rural areas, focusing on social messaging with the intent of bringing positive change in society. We have launched several campaigns on different issues that need to change. We drive a strong presence in the urban market. It has become a go-to product amongst the target audience. As the expansion of the product is one of our main priorities, we are focusing on regional markets. Earlier, we faced issues in connecting with people and were thinking of the best way of reaching rural women. We realized that the influence of regional channels is growing tremendously and now run different media plans and brand ambassadors for different regions. We have got a lot of success with regional channels. The consumers relate well with them which leads to better engagement for us. Q) What are a few milestones for Prega News in the last few years? What has given you an edge over the competition? Through our campaigns, we have spoken on issues surrounding soon-to-be mothers – workplace bias towards pregnant women or new moms, physical issues faced by expectant mothers, gender discrimination, and many more. Last year, we completed 10 years in the Indian market and launched a digital campaign, #PregaMoment. The product has been growing in healthy double digits annually. We witnessed a steep spike of over 20% in its demand during the COVID lockdown. It’s the trust factor that gives us the edge over others. Q) How has your marketing strategy helped you stand out? What role did popular faces like Kareena Kapoor and Anushka Sharma play in building brand Prega News? In the preliminary days, we used to release ads in newspapers and magazines to target women because that time pregnancy detection card was not available very easily. We launched this product in the OTC category to make it easily available. Our advertising journey started in 2010 with our first brand ambassador, <keyword id="18591" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="neha-marda" source="Orion">Neha Marda</keyword>. The message targeted at married women was simple – that it will take just 5 minutes to clear all doubts about their missed periods with the Prega News detection card. There are two parts to the Prega News advertising journey – the first being functional, which educates people about the tangible benefits of the product. In the beginning, this was done using semi-celebrity moms and later with big celebrity mothers and now we are focusing on regional actors and mom influencers. We have adopted a ‘Social Good’ content strategy as the second pillar of our communication, where we have highlighted many issues in our different campaigns. Q) How are you going deeper into the country? What are your expansion plans? Our expansion strategy is to reach every market in the country. We have realised that if we need to make women aware of pregnancy detection cards, we will need to associate with local people, NGO’s, Asha workers and others where we can talk to women about different things surrounding a pregnancy. To fulfil the same, we’re focusing on our distribution channels. The markets are further segmented as per the supply channels ranging from drugstores, pharmacies, online retail, supermarkets/hypermarkets, and Fertility and Gynaecology Clinics. In the last year, we have received a great response from the West Bengal market. Our focus is now on strengthening our reach in different states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, amongst others. We will extensively focus on rural areas like Mirzapur, Unnao and Kannauj, to name a few. Q) Are most of your consumers in larger cities or do you see a demand in Tier II &amp; Tier III cities too? Brand awareness is pretty high among urban populations. However, we are witnessing a positive trend in Tier II and Tier III cities too. People are becoming aware of the product and have started considering buying the pregnancy detection card but there is still some hesitancy around using the product among some people. We’re building awareness through many initiatives, so more and more women open up to using the product. Q) Looking ahead, what will your marketing strategy look like? We are quite prominent on TV, Digital, and OOH. We focus on a 360 degree marketing channel. From a reach perspective- there is no active brand on TV and our SOV is almost 95%. Television has helped us in reaching the masses. We are doing branded content, and focusing on digital mediums as well, be it by roping in mom influencers or creating a dialogue among the TG. Regional campaigns have been our strength and have helped us establish a connection with consumers by interacting with them in their language. In 2019, we ventured into the southern market and roped in celebrities like Kareena Kapoor and <keyword id="13060" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="priyamani" source="Orion">Priyamani</keyword> simultaneously to capture both the northern and southern markets. Also, this year we have roped in Kajal Agarwal as the face of the South market. In the future too, we will keep this momentum going. There are new campaigns in the pipeline, which will go live at the right time. Q) Apart from TVCs, how have you been educating/sensitizing people about the complications around pregnancy, or infertility (since this was a topic you touched on in your last campaign)? Yes, we want to sensitize people on the pregnancy-related issues. In India, there is a stereotypical mindset when it comes to adopting a child or opting for IVF or surrogacy. There is a need to create a dialogue on breaking stereotypes around infertility issues, as this is a common issue prevalent among couples nowadays. Around 10-15% of all married couples face a problem in conceiving a child today. With changing times, we need to become more progressive and inclusive, to be able to bring about a positive cultural change. Hence, this is the first step towards the change. Going further, we also have plans to rope in gynaecologists who can impart knowledge on the importance of family-planning, the use of contraceptives and pregnancy detection cards and the importance of health and nutrition during pregnancy. Our objective is to initiate a healthy conversation around important issues in society.

In the past few months, we have observed that people are tagging us to help them out the relevant information with regards to medicine, vaccination and others. We have ensured to extend our help, and are trying our best to respond to all the queries.” While COVID has been around for more than a year now and we are now used to working from home, this year feels nothing like 2020. Every social media post reminds us of the severity of the situation. At such a time, brands are trying to do their bit by donating, amplifying SoS requests on social media or volunteering. For Chatterjee, 2020 was a test match that helped him prepare for the storm and shift in the digital landscape. Now, he is trying to focus more on helping out his employees, finding a valid cause to associate with and come up with empathetic campaigns. “During the first phase of lockdown, we all witnessed numerous changes like the sudden shift to WFH, the two months imposed lockdown disrupted the supply chain. E-commerce business observed a tremendous response, as people relied on such apps for the delivery of products. However, in the second wave, all of us are more prepared and equipped for WFH and supply chain management. The situation related to lockdown vis-a-vis corona cases is different. The earlier experience has helped us on how to perform, and what sort of strategies should be implemented to avoid the hurdles,” said he. As an essential service provider, the major challenge for Mankind Pharma right now is to maintain its supply chain but it is focusing on digital mediums to reach out to a wider audience. Chatterjee shared, “There has been a lot of restriction due to lockdown in many states which is resulting in slow movement in our logistics. However, lockdown is necessary also to break the chain, and we strongly support the government. There is no doubt that the Pandemic has come with a shift in consumer preferences as well in terms of media consumption, people are spending a lot of time on digital media platforms and we are also focusing on such mediums. For instance, we choose mediums as per the demand, and right now we are highly focused on the digital medium to reach the target audience.” Mankind Pharma had launched a campaign three weeks ago with brand ambassador Anil Kapoor as a tribute to frontline warriors. According to Chatterjee, if a brand is communicating during such times, he said that relevant and empathetic communication are the key areas that should be visible and adopted in the strategy. “Times are such, even if brands are not relevant to the Covid-19 situation, they have to show compassion and empathy to the unprecedented situation. Brands are apprehensive of not being compassionate and empathetic to the situation. Riding on a trend is important but it's always for short-term benefit, brands always try to explore different opportunities to communicate about their benefits keeping the core message universal,” elaborated Chatterjee. The second wave has pushed all leaders to prioritise their employees’ wellbeing and keep their business’ goals on hold. As a leader, Chatterjee’s focus areas have changed too. “Our employee wellbeing is our utmost priority,” said Chatterjee. “We have created a separate to-do list for employees to keep them safe which includes regular updates about their health, how to take precautions or preventive measures to keep themselves and family safe. We are keeping track of the vaccination, and we are making sure that all our employees get vaccinated. Mankind Pharma works on three core principles – People, product and seamless process in functioning the business across the company. In these hard-hitting times, we have ensured working remotely for everyone and have offered support to those in need to promote positive mental health amongst employees. Mankind Pharma has also increased the insured amount for medical urgencies.” However, Mankind Pharma’s revenue goals and growth targets remain the same. Chatterjee is optimistic that the company will continue to grow this year as per their plan. “Our numbers are still intact, and we are quite optimistic that the numbers will surpass this year due to our thoughtful preparation. There are no changes to our predefined goals,” said Chatterjee. According to IQVAI report, Mankind Pharma is the fourth largest pharmaceutical company in India. Indian pharma industry will have to grow at a CAGR of 12% to reach $130 billion by 2030 from $41.7 billion in 2020.

This Valentine's Day, Manforce has a word of caution for couples

He was the alt superstar of Bangla cinema in its glory years, the affable Bhadralok icon who crafted a towering stature ironically banking on down-to-earth, believable characters that represented middle-class Bengal. The brand of stardom was in stark contrast to the other shining luminary of contemporary cinema in the state -- Uttam Kumar -- whose position as Mahanayak in the Bengali psyche was primarily cemented in idol worship and mass hysteria. Soumitra Chattopadhyay -- Chatterjee to anglicised India -- answers to the term ‘phenomenon' as absolutely as few actors do, for the sheer ease with which he defied the cliches of image. His stardom was sensational, and yet born out of realism. He was the mascot of the peerless <keyword id="14969" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Satyajit-Ray">Satyajit Ray</keyword>'s oeuvre, having worked with the maestro in 14 films, and yet he scored with the same assuredness in works of contemporary commercial powerhouses as Ajoy Kar and Tarun Mazumdar. He is the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2012) and Padma Bhushan (2004) recipient who was also honoured with the Legion d'Honneur (2018) in France for his contribution to world cinema. Importantly, Soumitra Chattopadhyay's greatness as a screen icon will survive the test of time in Bengali pop lore because he had something for everyone. For, he was not just Satyajit Ray's Apu. Beyond such a nuanced portrayal, he could also simply become Ray's Feluda and reach out to every audience, eight to 80. It took a Ray to bring to life Soumitra's greatness, and yet the account of their first meeting is a well-known story in Bengal. Ray was looking for his adult Apu in "Apur Sansar", final part of the Apu trilogy that started with "Pather Panchali". A friend introduced Soumitra to the master filmmaker who promptly declared the budding actor looked too old to be Apu, a college student according to his script. Soumitra would eventually bag the role opposite Sharmila Tagore, of course, and the rest is history. Soumitra's cinematic fate is overwhelmingly dictated by the great cinema of Satyajit Ray, so much so the maestro's filmography through his most important phase outlines the actor's career graph. Soumitra made his debut with "Apur Sansar" (1959) and, over the next three decades, would work in Ray projects as "Devi" (1960), "Teen Kanya" (1961), "Abhijan" (1962), "Charulata" (1964), "Kapurush O Mahapurush" (1965), "Aranyer Din Ratri" (1969), "Ashani Sanket" (1973), "Sonar Kella" (1974), "Joy Baba Felunath" (1978), "Hirak Rajar Deshe" (1980), "Ghare Baire" (1984), "Ganashatru" (1989) and "Shakha Proshakha" (1990). It was a filmography that Ray, one of the world's greatest filmmakers ever, shared with his chosen on-screen emissary. But if Ray worked with Soumitra 14 times, almost every major filmmaker the actor collaborated with also tended to repeat him. If anything, beyond underlining his credential as an artiste that fact stands a testimony to his professionalism and disposition as a human being. Consider a few other diversely prolific filmmakers beyond Ray who worked with Soumitra, and you get the picture. Mrinal Sen, another global icon of Bangla cinema of the era, directed Soumitra for the first time in "Punascha" (1961), and then again returned to collaborate with the actor in "Pratinidhi" (1964), "Akash Kusum" (1965), and "Mahaprithibi" (1991). The iconic Tapan Sinha directed him in projects as "Kshudhita Pashan" (1960), "Jhinder Bandi" (1961), "Atanka" (1984) and "Antardhan" (1992). Mainstream titans of his era loved working with the affable Soumitra, too. Asit Sen directed him in "Swayambara" (1961) and Swaralipi (1961), while Ajoy Kar made "Otol Joler Ahoban" (1962), "Saat Pake Baandha" (1963), "Barnali" (1963), "Kaanch Kata Heere" (1965) and "Parineeta" (1969). Tarun Mazumdar directed the actor over the years in "Ektuku Baasha" (1965), "Sansar Simante" (1975), "Ganadevata" (1978), "Agomon" (1988) and "Path O Prasad" (1991). Most of his directors have often spoken about the insatiable passion he had for his craft. It was something that ensured he would stay busy as ever till his last days, essaying character roles with the same enthusiasm with which he executed starring roles in his heydays. His 300-plus film career probably can be explained by his highly adaptable quality as an actor. He was at home working with new-age Bengali filmmakers as Atanu Ghosh ("Mayurakshi"), Suman Ghosh ("Podokkhep", "Peace Haven", "Dwando", "Basu Paribar"), Partha Chakraborty ("Samantaral") and Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee ("Posto"). He did move outside Bengal into Bollywood domain twice. In 1986, he acted opposite Roopa Ganguly in the Hindi short film "Nirupama", based on Tagore's story "Dena Paona". He also had a role in the 2002 release, "Hindustani Sipahi", based on Utpal Dutt's renowned Bangla play "Pherari Fauj". These though were temporary departures. For most parts, his staggering career is based on his Bengali filmography. It is a body of work that has given him recognition beyond the National Award as Best Actor ("Podokkhep"). He also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1998. Although his greatness lies in his body of work before the camera, Soumitra did try his hand at filmmaking, too. His directorial effort "Stree Ki Patra", a telefilm based on Rabindranath Tagore's "Streer Patra" released in 1986. The film starred Roopa Ganguly and Usha Ganguly. That the legacy of Bangla cinema's Grand Old Man was established in his lifetime is obvious from the number of GenNow actors who have followed in his footsteps. Young talents in the Bengali film industry of today such as Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Abir Chatterjee have fashioned their careers in the lines of Soumitra, seeking stardom without losing connect with Bengali middle-class realities. These are actors who have carved a niche in what is today known as the multiplex cinema circuit, catering content-driven entertainment of refinement, removed from the cliches of kitsch. Mumbai, Apr 7 () Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has unveiled a short film, "Family", which talks about the importance of staying at home, maintaining hygiene and social distancing in the times of the coronavirus pandemic."Family", which has been conceptualised and virtually directed by Prasoon Pandey, also features Rajinikanth, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Sonali Kulkarni, Shiv Raj Kumar and Prosenjit Chatterjee.Bachchan posted the film on his official Twitter handle, saying, "When you see that the cause is greater than the idea you dreamt of, there is just immense joy and gratitude for all my colleagues and friends in the making of this historic effort. We are one and we shall overcome. Jai Hind!" The made-at-home film, which aired across Sony Networks on Monday night, chronicles a family's effort to find a misplaced pair of sunglasses belonging to Bachchan's character.At the end of the short, the 77-year-old actor said artistes from several industries came together to make the film, but no one stepped out of their house."Every artiste shot their own section in their own house. You too, please stay indoors. That's the only way to keep yourself safe from the dangerous coronavirus. We all have come together and teamed up, with the help of sponsors and TV channel, to raise a fund. This fund will be distributed to our workers and daily wage earners to provide them with some relief in these tough times," Bachchan said. New Delhi, Apr 24 () It has been a month. Of life slowing to a crawl, of going back to the basics, of recalibrating equations with family, friends and colleagues and waking up, as if from a dream, to the vast inequalities and commonalities that underlie Indian society.On the evening of March 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the entire country would go under lockdown from midnight to stem the spread of coronavirus. In the days since, 1.3 billion Indians, wealthy and poor, in the heartland and in distant corners, have faced up to the fear of a pandemic spreading across the globe. No one was spared the anxiety of a coronavirus forced lockdown, extended till May 3, that kept most of India behind closed doors, not corporate biggies in gilded mansions, not the middle class inside their homes and not part-time domestic workers in claustrophobic tenements.That was the equaliser, but the inequalities also hit home almost immediately. As India went quiet and millions snuck into their homes to wait out the lockdown, migrant workers and daily wagers, stranded miles away from home, stared at an uncertain future without money, food or jobs.Most middle and upper class families found it challenging to spend so much time with their immediate families, and many isolated without them spiralled into depression. The journey of getting used to a new way of life – without domestic help, without the necessity of dressing up to step out and just staying cooped up indoors -- has been out of the ordinary, equal parts good, bad and ugly.According to Preeti Singh, clinical psychologist at Gurgaon's Paras hospital, the lockdown has encouraged people to differentiate between a need and a want and helped them "prioritise their requirements"."It has helped people realise that one can survive with a minimalist lifestyle, and the futility of all the materialism that drives the world," Singh told .From these 30 days -- that will go down as one of life's markers, an always-to-be-remembered month -- emerged innovative ways of social interaction, celebrations and even mourning in keeping with the need for social distancing.It has been an extraordinary time of looking inwards to rediscover reserves of strength and sometimes hidden talents, said many people.Chetna Beniwal, a customs inspector posted in Madurai and now with her parents in Gurgaon, said the lockdown has been an opportunity to discover the joy of simply talking with her family."Due to my work, I hardly get to visit home so I have actually been enjoying staying with my parents. I have realised that when you spend more time together, you get to know the small issues of the house," the 28-year-old told .For some, the challenging part was to spend most of the day confined at home with a close relative, even if one hugely loved, be it parent, child or spouse."I am finding it hard to be around my father 24/7," said Kolkata-based Indrani Paul. "I have realised that staying within the walls of your own house can be as difficult as staying 10 hours in the office. It is as good as being under house arrest," the 29-year-old said.Families, however, have come closer too.Mahender Sahni, a Delhi-based plumber, was in his village in Bihar when the lockdown was announced. He hasn't earned a rupee since March but said he has become closer to his sister, who has been helping him and his wife out with ration and food."She has been very kind to us," the 56-year-old said. Jammu-based Kamla Devi, 71, said she is happy her sons can spend time with their children but the future of their restaurant and catering business fills her with anxiety."All bookings for weddings in the last month had to be cancelled, and our employees need to be paid. We are extremely anxious about the days ahead," she said.She is also lonely and missing her friends."What I have missed the most is going to the park for my evening walk and chatting with my friends. I am spending more time on WhatsApp and phone calls these days," she said. According to Singh, Kamla Devi's loneliness is not uncommon in these trying times and can be seen across all age groups."Mental health has taken a hit with increasing cases of anxiety, depression, mood swings, obsessive compulsive disorder among others. There are also cases of alcohol abuse, increased anger issues, domestic violence, and marital discord," the doctor said.In times like these, "lack of emotional support often leads to a sense of hopelessness".At least 30 people have reportedly committed suicide due to the fear, anxiety and panic of being in isolation.The extended lockdown has put normal life on hold. Even treatment for illnesses, regular medical check-ups and health problems other than COVID-19. Ricky Sharma's brother ended up with a gum infection after he was unable to see a dentist."My brother had intense pain due to his wisdom tooth but no doctor agreed to see him. Eventually, a local chemist prescribed a medicine. But it hasn't been of much help. He is still in pain," Sharma, an IT professional in Gurgaon, said. According to Shweta Sharma, a psychologist at Gurgaon's Columbia Asia Hospital, there are challenges in surviving a lockdown but it is also important to look at the positive aspects and take some of them forward in a post corona life."This lockdown made people recognise the true value of relationships, and team work while sharing household responsibilities. Pollution free environment, and consumption of homemade food have been the valuable perks of this lockdown."These are also things that must continue after the pandemic. Perhaps, work from home can be accommodated in our routines to regulate pollution, and save resources, and exercising at home must continue, as should a certain amount of 'me time'," Sharma said.Actor Rajeev Khandelwal who was in his holiday home in Goa when the lockdown came into effect, said his biggest takeaway has been that one "should not be dependent on others for his/her happiness"."It should not be a borrowed happiness. One should not feel frustrated if they cannot step out of the house, if there is no one around them. One should be able to spend time with oneself. It is important to find things to engage with to find happiness."Lubdhak Chatterjee, a Kolkata-based filmmaker, said the most difficult thing to come to terms with has been the "fragile" nature of human life as well as the "collective lifestyle of the modern world"."This has been a more challenging reality to accept than just being restricted to my home, and the process is psychologically draining. In fact, this might be just the begining of a long process and thus it is important to accept and adapt accordingly," he said.COVID-19 has infected over 2.7 million people across the world and claimed at least 1,91,000 lives. There was this young girl who entered a coveted beauty pageant for the pure joy of participation. She wanted to see how the world looked from inside. In an interview last year to one of the popular Hollywood magazines, PC talks about how her twitter followers are always supportive of her. She sounded just perfect and at home at Hollywood. Despite some initial criticism about her American twang, the ‘accent’ has also set in, adequately. Now, she will just roll the role, literally and figuratively too.
