It seemed that not having seen the interview, or anything the Prince and his wife had to say, wasn't going to be a problem.<h2>The experts were more than happy to share their opinions of the interview nobody has yet seen</h2>The four royal whisperers answered the questions Manners and Pieters put to them with no trouble, such as what their overall impression of the interview was."In the interview, to my mind, this was an actress giving one of her great performances," said Seward in the video. "From start to finish, Meghan was acting."Manners asked her whether Oprah "went soft" on Markle, to which she said, "it was an iron fist in a velvet glove.""She did ask the tough questions. She had to ask the tough questions," said Victoria Arbiter, while Fitzwilliams claimed it was "not a balanced interview.""Oprah is a friend who gave them an easy ride," he said. He said this made sense, as it's their job to give their insights into the royal family on television."I suppose what we were putting to the test was, given that they influence public opinion, and particularly at a time where public opinion is so divided on this issue, whether they had any insights worth listening to," he said.Pieters told Insider they came up with the idea because of the media frenzy around the <keyword id="6418563" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Royals">royals</keyword>."It seemed that yeah, people are willing to say things that aren't necessarily true," he said.He added that this wasn't an attempt to comment on the allegation that Markle has been <a href="https://www.insider.com/racism-british-media-meghan-markle-prince-harry-royal-step-back-2020-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the target of negativity and racism</a> from the British tabloid press."It wasn't to take any side in this argument," Pieters said. "It was purely to experiment whether people would talk about something that hadn't happened yet in a sector that they are meant to be experts in, or they claim to be experts in."<h2>The duo wanted people to be more critical of what experts are and whether they should be listened to</h2>This also wasn't a criticism of journalists, Manners said. The duo deliberately only contacted self-proclaimed royal "experts" who present themselves as having a valuable insight into the royal family and are paid for their opinions."It was more the kind of people who wear cashmere on British television sets, who once shared a taxi with Princess Margaret," he said.The term "expert" is vague and broad, and there isn't much of a rulebook to follow in calling yourself one. Pieters and Manners hope their video inspires people to do their own research rather than rely on someone else's opinion that could be based on nothing."It was a look at these commentators who are shaping public opinion, and it's up to viewers to decide whether they are qualified to share that opinion," Manners said. "And perhaps this video puts a different perspective into what these people are doing for money."Pieters said they were careful to steer clear of hypotheticals and only asked direct questions the experts would have seen to have an opinion."We gave them facts, which weren't facts, and they spoke about them as facts," he said.The one time Manners and Pieters felt they pushed it quite far is when they asked the experts how they felt about Markle's passion for Balham Donkey Sanctuary and her decision not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine (neither of which are opinions Markle holds, as far as the public is aware)."It's so unlikely and so unfathomable. It was almost a way of giving them a chance," Manners said. "But I will give you a million pounds if the words 'Balham Donkey Sanctuary' come out of Meghan Markle's mouth."Fitzwilliams returned Insider's request for comment, saying they had seen two trailers, and pre-recorded interviews are frequently done for various news stories, and "there is nothing whatever dishonorable in it." Pieters said it's definitely a peak career moment to have a comedian they respect so much act out scenes they created."We didn't just want it to be really silly and laughing at people doing bad auditions," he said. "It was really cool that they got involved and allowed us to create something fun."<h2>Coronavirus masks helped keep the duo from laughing</h2>Pieters and Manners always like to give the people on the receiving end of their pranks a fair chance, partly so they don't get in too much trouble, and also so they know it's all in good faith.For this video, the casting company was registered to Pieters, and the scripts were not said to have been written by Baron Cohen."Even down to, if you look at the video, we look ridiculous," Manners said. "We're sitting there wearing face masks, on Zoom, the whole premise is just moronic. There's quite a lot of it that is so farcical, that even though Borat himself is ridiculous, you kind of can't believe that they're going along with this."The fact COVID-19 is still prevalent across the world also worked in the YouTube duo's favor, as wearing masks during the video calls helped them conceal their expressions and keep their identities somewhat hidden."Trying not to laugh is really really hard," Manners said. "Indeed, the death toll from 'TOWIE' stands at an admirable zero."Neither Pieters nor Manners expected their nomination to be taken seriously, until they received an email saying Gemma Collins would be considered."Your nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize 2021 has been successfully submitted," the emails read. "The Norwegian Nobel Committee appreciate your effort in making this nomination."At the end of the email was a link to make another entry, so Pieters and Manners nominated Mickey Mouse too for his peaceful work as a detective in Mouseton.Pieters told Insider they probably won't have any further correspondence with The Norwegian Nobel Institute unless Collins actually wins. The Institute doesn't discuss nominations after they have been submitted because it is supposed to be a confidential process."Only the nominator knows who has been nominated really until the winner is announced, so it's all shrouded in a bit of mystery," he told Insider. "But it is legit, [Collins] is currently a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize."He said it was such a huge and controversial story that Trump had been nominated, they wanted to shine some light on what a nomination actually entails."People were saying, 'How is this possible? He should never have been nominated,'" he said. "Our video highlights how that system isn't actually all that people think it is."The pranksters sent out a press release from their peace institute revealing that Collins had been nominated for the prize, and it received a fair amount of <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/12740623/gemma-collins-nobel-peace-prize-nomination/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attention in the UK press</a>. But they stepped things up a gear with the third video, which will air on Sunday night."Here's a chance where we could perhaps interview some high level talent because we are going under the guise of being a really famous show," Pieters told Insider. "And we thought, why don't we take a shot in the dark and go for the most exclusive, hard to reach person in the world, with absolutely no hope of it working?"They sent Carole Baskin an email from their trusty fake-but-also-real production company Invisible Objects, saying they were producing the live segments for "<keyword id="2835699" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="The-Tonight-Show-Starring-Jimmy-Fallon">The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon</keyword>."They'd almost forgotten about it when she finally replied and agreed to the call.<div type="image" title="archie carole" height="1080" width="1440" msid="75520730" hostid="261"></div><h2>Becoming Jimmy Fallon</h2>Pieters and Manners are a duo who have become well known and respected on YouTube for their social experiments. So far they have fooled the world with <a href="https://www.insider.com/youtuber-convinced-influencers-ed-sheeran-attended-ksi-logan-paul-lookalike-2019-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an Ed Sheeran lookalike</a>, presented right-wing provocateur <a href="https://www.insider.com/katie-hopkins-receives-fake-award-from-youtuber-c-word-2020-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Katie Hopkins with a fake award</a>, and sold <a href="https://www.insider.com/youtuber-josh-pieters-sold-microwave-meals-on-deliveroo-2019-9" target="_blank" rel="noopener">microwave meals on Deliveroo</a>, which earned them a reputation of having one of the <a href="https://www.insider.com/meet-josh-pieters-the-most-underrated-creator-on-youtube-2020-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"most underrated channels"</a> on YouTube.Even by their standards, faking the presence of James Corden and Jimmy Fallon sounds nearly impossible. The strange times we are living through certainly helped."I wouldn't say it's thanks to lockdown," Pieters said. "It was just really interesting seeing people like Prince William and all these people you'd never imagined to see on Zoom, and Zoom becoming such a big thing."Video calls are being used by talk shows all over the world right now, and there's no real set way to do them. So as long as Manners put on a confident enough performance, there's no reason to doubt Fallon or Corden were listening in too."I think it's also very hard when you are live on an interview with who you think is James Corden or Jimmy Fallon, to go, 'Hold on a second, that's not Jimmy Fallon,' when it sounds like him," Pieters told Insider."You'd have to be pretty sure of yourself and pretty brave to stop the interview."<h2>A worldwide exclusive</h2>The interviews all went more smoothly than expected. Pieters said he'd been having nightmares of being really stuck and having nothing to say with the few clips in front of him, because it's so hard imagining the direction the interview will go beforehand."There is often a moment where there isn't a clip that's suitable," he said. "But that's luckily where I have Archie on standby who can come in and act as the producer and say, 'Oh we've got a quick change there, Jimmy's just doing this,' or 'Jimmy's just doing his makeup,' and then it sort of explains why something sort of went wrong."The way they prepared for Baskin's interview was by scouring Fallon's older videos for relevant sound bites."As you'll see in the video, Jimmy Fallon has interviewed people named Cat, he's interviewed the cast of 'Cats,' and he's actually interviewed a real cat," Pieters said."So we had quite a lot of options for using the word cat. We tried our best to make it work with that."The end result was the first major interview Baskin has given since "Tiger King" aired."I think she did an interview for a local paper in Tampa where she's from," Pieters said. "But this was her first worldwide exclusive interview, which is just quite something."<div type="image" title="carole baskin" height="1080" width="1440" msid="75520733" hostid="261"></div><h2>'We really did not expect it to work'</h2>Pieters and Manners try to answer the "questions you didn't know you had."They never try to completely trick anyone, because ultimately, lying and deceiving is a lot less interesting than what they actually pull off."I think we always we always try to, not only from a creative point of view, but also from a slightly moral point of view, not completely dupe someone by breaking the law or doing something really wrong," Pieters said in a previous interview."We always try to give people a bit of a chance."Pieters said their latest series was simply seeing whether playing recordings to someone could convincingly pose as a real interview."Like all of our ideas, we really didn't expect it to work, and then it did work," he said. "I guess it's that trying to run an experiment and see if it works with not much hope of it working," he said. "And then when it does work, it's always quite fun to watch."Baskin is a "very interesting lady," Pieters said, and is excited to share the interview with the world."We really did not expect it to work," he said. There was obviously no video feed, but the guests were told they would be chaperoned by the show's producer, who was convincingly played by Pieters' friend and sidekick <a href="https://www.instagram.com/archiemannersmagic/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Archie Manners</a>.Celebrities and their managers were none the wiser, as so many late night show hosts have been doing interviews from their own homes.In the first of three videos in the series, British pop star Craig David and the UK's biggest <keyword id="6762469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TikTok">TikTok</keyword> star Holly Hubert, <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@hollyh?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">who goes by Holly H</a>, were interviewed. While Pieters took care of the voice notes to try and come up with a coherent flow of conversation, Manners kept things moving in his own flat across town, with the help of an imaginary assistant named "Sharon."They were also treated to exclusive performances. Pieters and Manners did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.According to The Telegraph, Victoria's father Dickie, who also appeared in the clip, has previously said the video was "deliberately misleading and a scam," and that his interview was edited "so as to imply I was speculating on the full-program interview. I was not speculating. That was a bold question, so I felt secure in that," Victoria said."The title [of the video] is a defamatory statement. I can only speak to my own commentary, but at no point did I lie," Victoria said.She added that she has never referred to herself as a "royal expert," as the duo did in the title of the video."Expert implies I know everything, which I don't," she said. Victoria said the fallout from the interview has had a negative impact on her life. She previously worked as a royal contributor for various shows on CNN, but said the network chose not to renew her contract after the video came out. (Representatives for CNN did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.)Victoria said she continues to receive hateful messages online as well. She told The Telegraph that "the onslaught was relentless" and she "lost the ability to earn an income." "We were still in the midst of a pandemic so there wasn't a survival job to be had," she said. "I was too scared to leave my home. I lost a stone in weight and my eyelashes fell out. I still suffer from insomnia and at times the anxiety is so paralysing I'm unable to function."She also told The Telegraph she could lose her home. "I'm a single mother with a son to support," she told the publication, adding that she had started counseling but had to stop due to the cost."I'm very much a work in progress. The counseling helped but I had to stop because it was expensive," she told Insider. "It's been hard to earn an income because of what happened… I'm not too proud to take any job. But any respective employers who Google me, this is what comes up, and they don't want to be associated with controversy."But Victoria told Insider she hasn't given up hope. "I'm scared and anxious for the future," she said, "but I also recognize that this is just a moment in my life and hopefully things will improve in the future."Representatives for law firm Kingsley Napley did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

But they are often closely guarded, and attract special care from local law enforcement, in this case London's Metropolitan Police.The balloon was soaring for around 10 minutes before a security guard came to ask what Pieters and Manners were doing. The guard then made a call and police in a red van — normally reserved for diplomatic protection and counterterrorism — with four armed officers showed up. This was "obviously quite scary," Pieters said."They asked us what an earth we thought we were doing, and at that point we said we were just flying a balloon," he said. "So they said, well, can you bring the balloon down. We said, absolutely."The conversation made it into the video, with the officers saying the stunt could be "offensive" to the people inside the embassy. Manners and Pieters said that wasn't their intention, and quickly brought the balloon down so they could pop it."It got real quite quickly," Pieters said. "It's obviously a touchy topic in the world right now, flying a spy balloon."Insider reached out to the Chinese embassy for comment but did not immediately hear back.
