Credit Suisse just named its new managing directors - here are the 173 people who made the list

Bush's communications director and now the host of MSNBC's "Deadline: White House," is one of the GOP's most outspoken critics of the president. </li><li>Wallace says the party's "volume business of misogyny," and the "cowardice" of leaders who don't stand up to it, is pushing women voters away, perhaps for good. </li><li style="font-weight: 400;">Her transformation from a top GOP political operative to a strident critic symbolizes the party's rightward shift, and the many who no longer feel welcome in its ranks. </li></ul>Nicolle Wallace has always been ahead of the story. "<keyword id="6358883" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="politics">Politics</keyword> is the ultimate reality show," the former White House communications director <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkDm_2uGSTA">told TV talk show host Wendy Williams</a> in 2014 during a discussion of Kardashian family drama. "Anything can happen." Wallace couldn't predict what the next two years of American politics would bring, but her instincts were spot on.As a top adviser to Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, Wallace clashed with Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate and then the little-known governor of Alaska who railed against the "lame-stream media," regularly fudged facts, and rejected Wallace's coaching and advice. Ultimately, supporting Palin was a bridge too far and Wallace didn't vote in that election. She now says Palin, who went on to star in the reality show "Sarah Palin's Alaska," was "Trump before Trump.""Our mistake was not understanding how ahead of her time she was," Wallace told Business Insider, pointing to Palin's irreverent, anti-establishment rhetoric and ability to tap into the rage bubbling beneath the party's surface.Wallace left politics for good after the McCain-Palin loss. And since that jarring experience, she's become a voice for a much larger movement of Republicans, particularly women, alienated by the conservative movement's ideology and rhetoric.<h2 style="font-weight: 400;">'A clarion call to decency' </h2>When the subject of Donald Trump was raised on ABC's "The View" in April 2015, Wallace, then the talk show's resident Republican, was quick to dismiss the future presidential candidate."Can we ignore him? He's a clown," <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHgFzqbaSiA" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v%3DNHgFzqbaSiA&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1522435682270000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEcOQOfpSAmtlv98RSpVRUoGYm1lQ">said Wallace</a>, who was soon pushed off the show for not expressing conservative enough opinions.Three years later and now the host of her own daily news show on MSNBC, Wallace is focusing all of her attention on Trump. One of the national media's most outspoken anti-Trump Republicans, Wallace regularly delivers no holds barred excoriations of the administration and GOP leadership every weekday afternoon on "Deadline: White House," which debuted early last year. The topic of her discussions with journalists, lawmakers, and ex-administration officials generally revolve around the latest White House scandal, whether it's Russia- or porn star-related.She's hyper-focused on what she sees as Trump's debasement of the presidency and the "cowardice" of the president's facilitators, particularly House Speaker Paul Ryan ("his spine has been removed," <a href="https://www.rawstory.com/2018/01/his-spine-has-been-removed-watch-nicolle-wallace-blast-incredible-shrinking-man-paul-ryan/">she says</a>).Fellow anti-Trump conservatives see her as something of a hero, one of the few in their party who express the appropriate level of outrage about this administration and the state of the GOP. "There aren't any other people like her," said John Weaver, McCain's former top strategist who's highly critical of Trump and party leadership. "She comes from my business and my party, but she's a truth teller that's transparent and what she does everyday is provide a clarion call to decency."Jennifer Lim and Meghan Milloy, the co-founders of <a href="http://www.gopwomenwithher.com/">Republican Women for Hillary</a>, say Wallace speaks for many conservatives, particularly women, who are fearful of "bucking the system." She and her three siblings, all more liberal than her, went to college at the University of California, Berkeley, and she went on to Northwestern for a masters degree in journalism.After a couple of years in local TV reporting, she moved into politics, taking a job with the Republican Caucus of the California State Assembly. In 1998, she worked on Republican Dan Lungren's campaign for governor, which he lost to the first Democrat to win the office in 16 years.Lungren's 20-point defeat was a turning point for California's Republican Party, which had controlled the state for half a century.Steve Schmidt, a powerful GOP strategist who first met Wallace during the 1998 campaign, says the party "obliterated itself" with Gov. Pete Wilson's <a href="https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2016/08/19/anti-immigrant-ads-like-trumps-sank-the-california-gop-in-the-90s/" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2016/08/19/anti-immigrant-ads-like-trumps-sank-the-california-gop-in-the-90s/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1522435682271000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHEVqxI74EGbojEZe1cYBQh-ElqMg">racialized and deeply anti-immigrant</a> 1994 re-election campaign. And even though Wilson was successful in winning his own elections, he undermined the party's long-term appeal. "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLIzzs2HHgY&amp;feature=youtu.be" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v%3DlLIzzs2HHgY%26feature%3Dyoutu.be&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1522435682271000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGSYyssOzxvwwNDBZkEsQV8V8UjTw">The TV ads</a> were Mexicans running across the border with an ominous voice of God saying in the ad, 'They're coming, they're coming, they keep coming,'' Schmidt recalled. "People went nuts, it destroyed the Republican Party."The next year, 25-year-old Wallace left California for Florida, where she took a job as Gov. Jeb Bush's press secretary. From there, she followed the Bush family into national politics and, soon enough, the White House. Schmidt, who served as McCain's 2008 campaign manager and recruited Palin to the ticket, says the national Republican Party under Trump is following in the footsteps of the California GOP, which hasn't elected a member to statewide office in over a decade. He says the national party, whose brand he calls "shattered, broken, done," has been infected by a "Star Wars cantina bar scene of creatures from another planet" and can't continue to appeal to a majority of American voters. "The Republican Party that [Wallace] grew up in in California was a party that accommodated moderates and centrists and women and had room for dissent and debate," Schmidt said. "Twenty years ago it wasn't a strange thing to be a woman Republican from California or to be in your twenties and be a Republican. It made perfect sense." But things have changed and Wallace represents the kind of Republican woman who's no longer welcome in her own party. (The senators responded with nervous laughter).Wallace argues the GOP's so-called "war on women" - a Democratic characterization of the party's agenda on women's reproductive rights - is "almost innocuous" when compared with its "volume business of misogyny," and toleration of alleged sexual assault and child molestation. "If you're offended by misogyny then I don't think you're attracted to the Republican Party in the time of Trump," she said. And little gets Wallace more riled up than when women are attacked - or when they fail to stand up for each other.After the president lavished praise on a former top aide who resigned amid allegations that he abused his two ex-wives, Wallace lamented the lack of protest among Trump's female staffers."Where are the women?" she asked. "Why don't they walk out en masse?"It's personal for Wallace, who counts many at the highest levels of the party among her oldest friends.She says she "really can't figure out" the women she knows who work in the White House - people like Mercedes Schlapp, a former Bush administration colleague who is now Trump's director of strategic communications and <a href="http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/03/inside-the-cutthroat-battle-to-be-the-next-hope-hicks.html">reportedly a contender</a> for the top communications job recently exited by Hope Hicks.But, Wallace says, she doesn't lay special blame on women for what she sees as the complicity of the entire party. "You make the problem worse by laying it at the feet of other women," she said. "What sets the party back isn't just the president's posture toward women, it's every powerful man in the party looking away and doing nothing. I've just never seen a display of cowardice like their silence."<h2 style="font-weight: 400;">The extinction of moderate Republican women</h2>Wallace insists her political ideology hasn't changed during her decades in politics and that many women who have spent their careers in GOP politics also feel the party has moved away from them. "There's broad recognition among women who worked in the Republican Party when it was lead by Mitt Romney or George Bush or George H. W. Bush, or Ronald Reagan, that the party is largely unrecognizable," Wallace said. And she laments that moderate female Republican lawmakers, like Sens. Trump lost women by 12 points and won men by 12 points. The <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/11/09/men-handed-trump-the-election/?utm_term=.08f513adebca" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/11/09/men-handed-trump-the-election/?utm_term%3D.08f513adebca&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1522435682271000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEZQzYs5PPOnWfxWWoWY7n-o9NwCA">24-point gender gap</a> was the largest ever in the 50-year history of exit polling.The increased gap was largely caused by a surge in GOP support among white men, rather than a large drop among women. (The majority - 53% - of white women (and 62% of white women without a college degree) voted for the GOP ticket.)But a dramatic shift is occurring among millennial women, 70% of whom now affiliate with or lean towards the Democratic Party - up from 56% four years ago, according to <a href="http://www.people-press.org/2018/03/20/wide-gender-gap-growing-educational-divide-in-voters-party-identification/">recent Pew Research Center polling.</a>Supporters of the president point out that Wallace's views are held by a minority of Republican women, many of whom are geographically and culturally more similar to Democratic voters than to their fellow Republicans. "Do I think she accurately represents how moderate Republicans who live in urban areas with college degrees feel? Sure," Scott Jennings, a top Republican strategist who worked with Wallace in the Bush White House, said of Wallace. "She presents a point of view that is representative of what the viewers of MSNBC would want to hear out of a disaffected Republican." Jennings argued that while these moderate women are "not an insignificant" group, they may have been swing voters to begin with. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image">Josie Lim/AFPA 1.5-m new species of giant jellyfish that washed up on a beach near Hobart in Tasmania, pictured on February 6, 2014</div></div></div>SYDNEY (Reuters) - Residents of a sleepy hamlet in Tasmania found a previously unknown kind of giant jellyfish washed up on a beach, prompting excitement among scientists in Australia as they work to formally name and classify the creature.
About 1.5 meters (five feet) across, the white jellyfish with a pink spot in the middle is believed to be a relative of the lion's mane species popularly known as a "snotty" as it resembles mucus.
"There's the excitement, that it's a new species and then there's the 'Oh my God factor' that it happens to be the size of a Smart car," Lisa-ann Gershwin, a scientist at the government's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, told Reuters. "It's like Disneyland for marine biologists."
A family walking along the beach found the giant jellyfish in late January and sent a photo to the research organisation in Hobart, Australia's southernmost city. Scientists believe the jellyfish was later washed out to sea.
Gershwin and other scientists are also trying to discover why there has been an enormous rise in jellyfish populations in the waters around Tasmania this year.
"There's something going on that's causing a whole lot of species to bloom in staggering numbers and we don't know why yet," she said. "It's so thick with jellyfish that it's like swimming in bubble tea."

Goldman Sachs' new managing director list is out

The unemployment rate for those with a college diploma is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-the-massive-difference-in-unemployment-between-people-who-do-and-dont-have-a-college-degree-2013-5">significantly lower than for those without one</a>. The two rates have also fluctuated similarly for a long time. This much we know.
But we also know that the <keyword id="990594" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="labor-force">labor force</keyword> participation rate has been steadily dropping for some time. In August, the rate fell to 63.2%, the <a href="http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-09-06/record-905-million-out-labor-force-half-million-drop-out-one-month-labor-force-parti">lowest figure since August 1978</a>.
When workers exit the labor force en masse, the unemployment rate drops (since the calculation is based on people actively looking for work). That looks nice, but you wouldn't exactly call the situation "better."
So it follows, one might think, that the rate of participation is dropping more for those without a college degree because they just have fewer skills than their educated contemporaries. But that's wrong.
Take a look at these oft-cited charts. First, <a href="http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/LNU01327662">here</a> is labor force participation for those with a bachelor's degree or higher.

It's been falling for some time. So what gives? As Goldman Sachs economist Jan Hatzius <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hatzius-college-educated-unemployment-2013-5">wrote to clients in May</a>, "The growth in the absolute number of employed college graduates has been nowhere near enough to offset the increase in the size of the college-educated population."
Put differently, American universities are churning out so many new college graduates that even as more drop out of the labor force, the unemployment rate has stayed pretty much in line with the unemployment rate for those with less education. You'd have to look beyond the unemployment rate and to the labor force participation rate to see how "go to college, get a job" misses the full picture.
The participation rate <a href="http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/LNU01327659">for those with less education</a> tells a different story (though it too has suffered since the crisis).

More people going to college is not necessarily a good thing, especially considering America's youth have <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/youth-labor-force-participation-falls-2013-9">fallen out of the labor force</a> and into a student loan securities bubble.
As a backdrop, there is over $1 trillion in outstanding student loans in America. <a href="http://www.cnbc.com/id/101012270">As CNBC's John Carney reported</a>, banks backing out of the student loan business are beginning to use language "eerily reminiscent" to what we heard as firms closed subprime units in the runup to the financial crisis.

But acting on this alleged promise would be a significant conciliatory gesture, and would also throw into doubt the necessity of stationing US troops in South Korea - an outcome US military leaders like secretary of defense James Mattis vehemently opposes.That proposal was reiterated by North Korea's propaganda outlets in recent weeks. These 40 tech leaders just signed a statement against 'discrimination' laws like the one passed in Indiana

On Tuesday, over 80 CEOs and business leaders signed an open letter asking North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory to repeal a controversial law <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-nc-lawmakers-return-to-address-transgender-bathroom-measure-2016-3">passed last week.</a>Signatures included Apple CEO Tim Cook, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and, naturally, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, who has been the Silicon Valley point-person speaking out against state-level laws that negatively impact the LGBT community.The law, which was passed by North Carolina's legislature in a one-day session and immediately signed into law by the governor, has been called <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nc-ag-wont-defend-controversial-transgender-law-2016-3">a "national embarrassment"</a> by North Carolina's attorney general. The law was in reaction to a regulation passed by the city of Charlotte that allowed transgender people to use bathrooms based on their gender identity. Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg, Ginni Rometty, others are asking North Carolina to repeal its 'discriminatory' law

<div class="image-container float_right"><div class="image">Reuters</div></div>In the build up to the premier of the fifth season of ABC's reality pitch show "<keyword id="1417364" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Shark-Tank">Shark Tank</keyword>" this week, we decided to take a look at all the catch phrases, cliches, buzzwords, and business <keyword id="93502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jargon">jargon</keyword> used on the show.
We weren't disappointed. "Shark Tank" turns out to be a melting pot of colorful lingo, propagated mostly by the Sharks themselves. 
With the help of Andrew Figgins, a Chicago-based entrepreneur and owner of the fan site <a href="http://inthesharktank.com/%22%20%5Ct%20%22_blank">InTheSharkTank.com</a>, we compiled the following list of the most common always used by the Sharks (we're looking at you, Mark Cuban): 
1. "You're not an entrepreneur; you're a want-repreneur."
Cuban first and most memorably said this in season three to Amanda Schlecter, founder of the <a href="http://www.ledgepillow.com/index.html" target="_blank">Ledge Pillow</a>, a pillow designed to help women recovering from breast surgery or with large breasts lay comfortably on their stomachs. The statement has since been adopted by many of the Sharks in response to what they view as sub-par pitches. 
Translation: You don't seem willing to put in the time and effort it takes to make a company succeed. 
2. "Follow the green, not the dream."
Cuban used this gem most recently in season four with Erica Cohen and Lori Barbera of <a href="http://www.babysbadassburgers.com/" target="_blank">Baby's Badass Burgers</a>, a bright pink food truck that sells gourmet burgers (motto: "Come for the burgers, stay for the buns"). Because the truck had steady sales, the pair wanted to open a traditional restaurant. Cuban advised that they stick to what they know.
Translation: Focus on what's working, rather than expanding into a new business venture just for the sake of expanding.
3. "I need more skin in the game."
Most of the Sharks have used this at one time or another, though Cuban probably the most, when they want a higher equity stake. Cuban said it to Mike Hartwick and Sarah Ponn of <a href="http://www.surfsetfitness.com/" target="_blank">Surfset Fitness</a>, a surf-focused exercise equipment and classes provider. They asked for $150,000 for a 10% stake, but Cuban wanted more "skin in the game" and offered $300,000 for 33%. 
Translation: I'm willing to put more of my money on the line to get a better deal. 
4. "That's a Slick Willie move."
Daymond John nicknames any entrepreneur who isn't forthright with their answers or changes valuations mid-pitch a Slick Willie. When Michael Tseng, creator of the food-storage invention <a href="https://platetopper.com/index.html" target="_blank">PlateTopper</a>, changed his company valuation from about $2 million to $15 million in the midst of talking to the Sharks, John deemed it "a Slick Willie move." 
Translation: You've been deceptive and lost my trust. 
5. "I'm starting my 24-second shot clock."
Borrowed from his basketball background, Cuban says this when he wants to pressure an entrepreneur to make a decision quickly. He used the shot clock in the third season with Mark and Hanna Lim of <a href="http://lollaland.com/" target="_blank">Lollacup</a>, a pediatrician-approved sippy cup, and ended up making a deal. Other Sharks have also used and sped up the shot clock. Lori Greiner once reduced it to two seconds. 
Translation: You have the next few seconds to make a deal. 
6. "You're dead to me."
This is the Kevin O'Leary go-to response when contestants turn down his offers. In the first season, when Paul Watts of <a href="http://www.removegraffiti.net/" target="_blank">Graffiti Removal Services</a> dismissed the deal for a majority stake in his business, which would make Watts a mere employee of his own company, O'Leary said: "You're dead to me if you turn around." He did and walked right out the door. 
Translation: That's my final offer, and I don't renegotiate. 
7. "Is the business scalable?"
From the annals of business speak, this is the most-often used jargon trotted out by Sharks on the show. Essentially, they're asking if contestants can handle more than their initial success and put systems in place for consistent growth. It's an important concept, but an annoying cliche. 
Translation: Will you be able to meet increased demand and grow revenue quickly and easily?

According <a href="http://www.clioawards.com/press/index.cfm?year=2014&amp;pressid=262">to the list of jury members released by the event's organizers</a>, there will be 30 female jury members this year and only 29 men.
"We've been talking about it for over a year, since before we even started going through the jury selection process," CLIO Awards executive director Nicole Purcell said. "It really started to come together, and this year, we have an amazing jury."
The CLIO Awards is an annual, international competition honoring achievements in advertising, design, and communications. Each year, agencies and individuals submit their best work for consideration in 18 media types ranging from film to direct marketing. Since its inception in 1959, the contest has been judged by juries that were primarily male.
In the past, the show has given awards to ads that were not exactly progressive when it comes to gender, like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ptmk-7h075k">this 2009 winner</a> for a Japanese hair removal brand called Esthe WAM:

The CLIOs set about to change that this past year, when the organization announced its intention to field a gender-equal jury in 2014 to be more strongly reflect the contributions of women to the advertising industry.
To do this, Purcell and her team created a place on the CLIO Awards website for people to submit anonymous nominations, since women are less likely than men to submit themselves for consideration. The CLIO Awards also met with the major agencies to find talented women and encourage them to serve as judges.
With the help of the agencies and the awareness created by ongoing industry conversation gender equality in creative roles, Purcell said the task of finding talented females for her juries was not particularly difficult.
"It came easier than it has in the past, I think because of everyone talking about creative women in the field," Purcell said. "People are always asking 'Where are these female creatives?' Well, guess what? We just found them."
Purcell said she did not think the increased number of women on the juries would alter the results of the competitions in any way.
"At the end of the day, when we start the jury selection process, what we're looking for is the thought provokers and the idea generators," said Brooke Barasch, the CLIO Awards' director of marketing. "The idea really isn't about the perspective of males or females, it's really about just having the creative minds in the room."
