The company will be hiring 2800 people and will be scaling up its headcount from 2600 to 5400 employees. The company plans to fill in 2800 positions in various levels and functions like engineering, product, analytics, business development, and sales teams located in Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, and the rest of the country. “We are building a long-term sustainable organisation, anchored on technology, and unlocking value for all. Other than that, PhonePe is also actively investing in PhonePe university, which is a holistic programme in tech that aims to accelerate learning and impact for engineers, while also enabling expansion of the ready-now engineering talent in the startup space. “PhonePe’s progressive efforts to create a diverse, vibrant, and positive workplace were formalised last year with the launch of its Diversity and Inclusion Initiative. Since then, the company has seen an increased representation of women in leadership roles, as well as more hires from the LGBTQI community and persons with disability,” Sandhu added further. The company also claims that it offers above-market compensation, has below-market attrition rates, and offers wealth creation opportunities to all employees through its employee stock ownership plan (ESOPs) programme. The digital payments company recently launched a ‘Mother@PhonePe’ programme especially for mothers to give them the flexibility to come back to the workforce whenever they are ready. The company also launched another programme called ‘Parents@PhonePe’ which covers secondary caregivers, thus promoting a more balanced distribution of responsibilities among new parents. PhonePe was founded in December 2015 and it claims to have digitised over 27 million offline merchants spread across tier 2,3,4 and beyond and claims to have covered 99% of pin codes in the country. Using PhonePe, users can also send and receive money, recharge mobile, DTH, pay at stores, and make all their utility payments. Digital payments platform PhonePe to hire 2800 people by the end of this year

New Delhi, Mar 12 () Flipkart is offering its employees with small children to work from home and encouraging use of digital and video tools to ensure business continuity amid the global coronavirus outbreak. Its group company PhonePe has also asked most employees to work from home (WFH) until further notice. The number of coronavirus cases continues to climb globally, with 74 cases being reported in India so far. Coronavirus, declared as a pandemic by World Health Organization, has claimed over 4,600 lives worldwide. "We are promoting the use of video conferences for meetings, including job interviews, and are temporarily avoiding events and training programmes that require large gatherings as a precautionary measure," Flipkart said in an emailed statement. It also said that apart from giving a work from home option to young parents (with children studying till grade 5), we are checking system preparedness for working remotely using digital and video tools. The company has also issued a ban on all non-essential domestic and international business travel, and is encouraging employees who may have returned from international travel to work from home for 14 days. Flipkart said its facilities are being sanitised and deep cleaned at regular intervals as per standard norms for such situations. "Specifically, for our supply chain and logistics network, we have organised awareness sessions across all our facilities on how our employees and partners can minimise their exposure by following simple precautionary measures," Flipkart said. It added that its delivery partners are being provided with sanitisers and other required equipment to use while they are on the go, and are keeping track of impacted areas to minimise their exposure. Those who are unwell are being advised to the rest with all assurance of medical support. PhonePe said it has also initiated a WFH policy. "Most teams have been asked to WFH until further notice already. Employees in a few critical functions, have been asked to come to the office on a rotational basis," it added. As the contagious disease with flu-like symptoms spread across the globe, domestic and foreign companies operating in India have issued advisories to take precautions, and even asked employees to WFH. For e-commerce companies with large fleet of people delivering products, containing the situation poses a bigger challenge. Online grocery delivery platform Grofers said its delivery personnel are being monitored and trained on handling of sealed crates. "At current levels, all essential supply chains are functioning normally, both for Grofers and for our suppliers. Apart from some items which have hard caps on production and particularly those that are sourced from China, most items should continue to be available, although the mode of delivery and supply chains will have to adjust," it said. Bhavin Turakhia, founder and CEO at Flock and co-founder and CEO at ZETA, said the two companies have announced a slew of measures to ensure the well-being of its employees. "Business continuity plan (BCP) across business units and functions including the support functions with a 3-5 work from home mock drill. Our BCP is not limited to only work from home, it takes into account succession planning for critical roles that will come into effect in case of an employee or their loved one falls sick," he said. The company is also undertaking virtual interviewing and hiring, conducting educational and awareness sessions on health and fitness through online mediums to ensure their health is not compromised even as they work from home. India’s top brands have borne the brunt of the global economic downturn in 2023. The combined value of Kantar BrandZ’s top-75 Indian brands shed 4% of their value to $379 billion in 2023. Yet, they have fared better than their global counterparts, as its global list has shed 20% of its value. Most of this loss in brand value was seen in Indian tech brands whose value shrunk by 14%. The brands have a major presence in international markets, and have been impacted by global pressures, recession threats and geopolitical instability, says Kantar. “If you exclude tech, the combined brand value is quite stable,” said Soumya Mohanty, managing director and chief client officer, South Asia, Insights Division of Kantar. TCS on the top, as usual The spot of India’s most valuable brand, however, is retained by tech giant TCS. It has shed 6% of its value but has fared better than tech as a sector. “TCS has a strong corporate reputation which makes it more likely to retain clients and business. It can also help enable customer retention which is also a factor that adds to brand value,” Deepender Rana, executive managing director of South Asia Insights Division at Kantar told Business Insider India. Infosys’ brand value dropped by 17%, while HCL Tech’s brand value rose by 3%. Both these brands made it to the top 10. Wipro’s brand value dropped by a sharp 42%. The rest of the list is dominated by banks, telecom companies with only one consumer company, Asian Paints in the top 10. risers of the year. TVS, valued at $1.9 billion, occupies the 51st rank. The company has gained 59% in value and leapt 24 places thanks to a number of successful product launches and a 10-year partnership with BMW that gives it leverage in markets such as Europe, the US and Canada. Mahindra is valued at $2.01 billion and occupies the 47th rank. Mahindra, which grew its value by 48%, made itself incredibly meaningful in consumers’ eyes, and also significantly boosted its salience. The sector saw the second highest category growth of 19%, after tobacco. Royal Enfield’s value also swelled, thanks to Indians’ preference for premium products. A lot of Indian auto brands, like Tata Motors, also entered EV markets and are able to meet consumer needs better, observes Rana. “Auto companies’ value declined during Covid and made a comeback after they dealt with supply chain issues and dealt with bottlenecks,” said Mohanty. India’s largest auto company Maruti Suzuki, however, shed 5% of its brand value, while Bajaj Auto’s brand value went up by 9%. The value in finance Financial services brands have grown their brand value by 6% with 16 brands and contributing to the biggest chunk of the total brand value. Their growth is attributed to growth in digital banking and Axis Bank whose value swelled 28% and now ranks at 17. ICICI Bank which ranks at no 6 also has seen its brand value swell by 18%. Two of this year’s new entrants also belong to the fintech sector — PhonePe and Cred. This is in spite of the fact that tech as a sector saw its value go down during the year. PhonePe has made its debut on the list at No.21 with a value of $4.4 billion. It has quickly become India’s leading digital payment app by investing heavily in the strength of its infrastructure, building connections with partner banks, and developing a huge network of merchant acceptance points, said Kantar. Meanwhile, Cred has entered at no 48 with a brand value of $2 billion. “Growth of credit and other digital trends are adding to the value of fintechs. There is a need for these services and brands are doing a good job of providing them,” Mohanty tells Business Insider India. PayTM, Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, Naukri, Oyo and Nykaa have shed value; while Byju’s hasn’t been included in the list this year. FMCG as a sector has seen its brand value remain stable during the year.

Amazon to hire 8,000 direct workforce across 35 cities in India this year

In a recent interaction with employees, Pichai was bombarded with questions from employees related to travel and entertainment budget cuts, productivity, hybrid work and potential layoffs, reports CNBC. "I remember when Google was small and scrappy. We shouldn't always equate fun with money. I think you can walk into a hard-working startup and people may be having fun and it shouldn't always equate to money," he apparently told employees. Pichai responded to a question about why the company has shifted from "rapidly hiring and spending to equally aggressive cost saving." "I'm a bit concerned that you think what we've done is what you would define as aggressive cost saving. I think it's important we don't get disconnected. You need to take a long-term view through conditions like this," Pichai elaborated. Pichai aims to make the company 20 per cent more efficient, hinting at job cuts. Reports have surfaced that Alphabet is giving some workers 60 days to apply for a new role at the company if their jobs are set to be cut. Last month, Google fired more than 50 workers at its incubator Area 120 and gave them extra 30 days to find another job at the company. A Google spokesman was quoted as saying that nearly 95 per cent of employees found new roles within the notice period. Pichai said the company is "still investing in long-term projects like quantum computing. But it's important "to be smart, to be frugal, to be scrappy, to be more efficient." "We're committed to taking care of our employees. I think we're just working through a tough moment macroeconomically and I think it's important we as a company align and work together," said Pichai. Earlier, addressing the gathering at the Code Conference in the US, Pichai said that the more the company tries to understand the macroeconomic conditions, it feels very uncertain about it. This year, on average, FMS Delhi students received job offers that paid ₹25.6 lakh. The best paying job offer went as high as ₹58.6 lakh per annum. This is the kind of high paying salaries that are generally associated with IIMs, XLRI and others. Thanks to A-list recruiters like Capgemini, McKinsey &amp; Co, Flipkart, Airtel and Xiaomi, almost 75% of FMS students received offers that paid above ₹20 lakh. That is three in four students. For the top performing quartile, the salaries went as high as ₹37.5 lakh. Though FMS ranks 35th in top Indian B-schools, the students who get admission to this Delhi University-affiliated college have to score 99% in CAT. Amazon becomes the top recruiter at MDI Gurgaon with a ₹40.5 lakh offer

The number of job openings at Facebook that used to pop up were down by nearly 50% at the end of July. GlobalData job analytics database estimates that there were about 1,102 job postings in January but only 551 in July. Even though the overall number of jobs at Facebook dipped, prominent openings were spotted for senior-level positions at the company within payments, e-commerce and advertising. “Though it has not yet had a big impact on the company's earnings, Facebook seems to be concerned that more companies will join the bandwagon, prompting the social media giant to hire senior personnel in the advertising space,” Autojyoti Bose, the lead analyst at GlobalData said in a statement. Facebook job openings at senior level positions Facebook investment in Jio Platforms is in conjunction with JioMart — an online grocery delivery platform. The deal is seen as a strategic move by Facebook to roll-out its payments platform, WhatsApp Pay, in India where other players have already established themselves like Google, Paytm, and PhonePe. In May, Facebook rebranded Calibra to Novi to distance itself from the bad press around its cryptocurrency project. While Libra will continue to operate independently from the company, Novi is purely a Facebook project. The plan is for Novi’s first product to be a cryptocurrency wallet. While one doesn’t need a Facebook or WhatsApp account in order to sign up for the digital wallet, it will be directly accessible from either app. In addition to Novi and Jio, Facebook Financial is a new division that was created to add payments and financial services to the company’s existing line of products. The region is expected to be up and operational by mid-2022. While the company did not disclose the financial details of the deal, Chandok highlighted that the impetus continues to be on creating highly skilled and well-paid jobs in the local economy. “The kind of roles we’re hiring for today includes data center engineers, support engineers, engineering operations managers, security specialists and many more,” he said. Three new AWS availability zones The new cluster of data centers will add another three availability zones to the three that already exist in India under the AWS Mumbai region. “This will fulfill the long term capacity needs of a country like India,” said Chandok. A region is a physical location where data centres are located. Availability zones, on the other hand, are the actual technology infrastructure in separate and distinct geographical regions. Three new availability zones mean that three different locations within Hyderabad will be scouted for setting up data centers. “Each availability zone is a fully isolated partition of the AWS global infrastructure. This means it is physically separate from any of the other availability zones by a meaningful distance,” explained Chandok. Why did AWS choose Hyderabad? Chandok highlighted that AWS chose Hyderabad for its new hub because of Telangana’s policies specifically targeted at the growth of IT and IT services in India. “Hyderabad is the city that’s home to several startups and enterprises with a skilled workforce today,” he said. It’s also about the location itself. The company explains that Hyderabad fits the parameters of latency, cost, availability, security and scalability. “There will lower latency to address the South India market,” said Rahul Sharma, the President for Public Sector at AISPL across India and South Asia. AWS pumps $2.7 billion into India to set up a second cluster of data centers in Hyderabad by 2022

<ul><li>The international students who enrol in <keyword id="977497" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="online-classes">online classes</keyword> initially for <keyword id="3235921" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-courses">university courses</keyword> in the UK will also be eligible for the post study work-visa. </li><li>“International students present in the UK before 6 April 2021 will still be eligible for the two year Graduate route, if you meet the other requirements of the route, even if you begin your course online before travelling to the UK in person,” the UK government said in an open letter. </li><li>The government added that the foreign students will be able to apply for a Tier IV visa soon. </li><li>The graduate route, granting the <keyword id="1013018" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Post-Study-Work">post study work</keyword> visa for two years, applies to all the international students having UK immigration status, who have completed an undergraduate or higher educational degree from any UK university.</li></ul>While many top universities have turned flexible with student intake, and are lowering the selection criteria to increase the number of falling foreign students, the UK government is making it easier for its foreign students to study and find jobs in the country — amid the COVID crisis. Now, the international students who enrol in online classes initially for university courses in the UK will also be eligible for the post study work-visa. In an <a href="https://study-uk.britishcouncil.org/sites/default/files/letter_to_prospective_international_students.pdf">open lette</a>r to international students, the UK Minister of State for Universities, Michelle Donelan MP together with Education Ministers from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as the Minister for Exports at the Department of International Trade, said that “International students present in the UK before 6 April 2021 will still be eligible for the two year Graduate route, if you meet the other requirements of the route, even if you begin your course online before travelling to the UK in person.” The UK government also addressed the concerns around the study visa. The foreign students will be able to apply for a Tier IV visa soon. “Despite some COVID-19 disruptions to visa processes and exam timetables, you can still get started with the process. For example, you can familiarise yourself with UK visa requirements and talk to your chosen universities about evidence you may need to supply for a visa application,” the letter<a href="https://study-uk.britishcouncil.org/sites/default/files/letter_to_prospective_international_students.pdf"> said</a>. This comes after many students who were earlier considering universities abroad now cancelled their plans due to coronavirus. Many universities have shifted to online classes for even full-time courses for the current semester. However, the students are preferring to defer to next year to enroll in the January 2021 batch because they are still unsure of the online model. “The recent changes to post-study work, which will now be available to international graduates for two years, including those who have undertaken part of their studies online due to COVID-19, is a welcome move. These practical changes and this initiative to directly address international students looking to the UK as a study destination will go a long way to reassuring prospective international students that the UK is still the best destination for their studies,” said Emma Lancaster, CEO of <keyword id="307962" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Study-Group">Study Group</keyword>, which prepares foreign students for university degree programmes. UK promises post-study work visa for foreign students forced to start university course online

Nearly a decade after entering India and failing to make any waves due to resistance from the government, <keyword id="80487" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="walmart">Walmart</keyword> is making a renewed push in the country by focussing on it’s fast growing e-commerce market. The world’s largest retailer is taking a 77% stake in <keyword id="6354742" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, an Indian e-commerce giant, by buying $14 billion of stock from it’s investors and pumping in $2 billion of fresh funds. With the deal inked, now the work begins for Walmart. In addition to boosting Flipkart’s logistics and supply chain network, it has a number of complementary plans for the Indian market. According to a <a href="https://news.walmart.com/2018/05/09/walmart-to-invest-in-flipkart-group-indias-innovative-ecommerce-company">press release on its website</a>, Walmart plans to create jobs, support small businesses and increase farmer incomes. Here’s how things should go from here. Direct and local procurement of <keyword id="389479" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="groceries">groceries</keyword> Flipkart can’t focus on clothes and electronics forever. And Walmart derives half its global sales from groceries. Like <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> and the Alibaba-funded BigBasket, the US retailer has big plans in the online groceries space in India - a segment which is widely predicted to drive India’s e-commerce growth. Currently, farm-to-table supply chains in India suffer from wastage and a lack of investment. Walmart is expected to source fresh groceries directly from farmers and small businesses and minimise wastage by adding a cold storage component to its supply chains. This could also include investments in collection centres, and quality control facilities. In doing so, Walmart will help farmers cater to a wider customer base. It already runs a number of <a href="http://www.wal-martindia.in/2017/11/30/walmart-foundation-supports-market-readiness-for-farmers-in-india-with-a-grant-of-close-to-2-million">market readiness projects</a> in India centred on back-end infrastructure support, increasing access to credit for farmers and training on international food standards. Making ‘kirana’ stores go digital In its press release, Walmart said it would, “partner with kirana owners and members to help modernize their retail practices and adopt digital payment technologies”. Ekart, Flipkart’s supply chain arm, is already sourcing and distributing products through thousands of kiranas. Kiranas refer to small mom-and-pop neighbourhood retail shops. Walmart already has ties with kiranas through its Best Price wholesale business in India, wherein these vendors act as resellers. In addition to integrating more of these stores and small retailers into Flipkart’s supply chain network, Walmart will likely get them to start using Flipkart's PhonePe <keyword id="6358577" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-payments">digital payments</keyword> network to accept and disburse payments offline. The payments app crossed <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/flipkart-owned-phonepe-clocks-42-4-million-upi-transfers/articleshow/64088569.cms">40 million transfers</a> on the Unified Payments Interface in April alone. But it won’t come cheap With its $16 billion investment, Walmart is spending a lot more money in India than Amazon, Flipkart’s nearest competitor in the Indian online shopping market. In 2016, Amazon said it would increase its planned investment in India <a href="http://www.thehindu.com/business/Industry/Amazon-to-increase-India-investment-to-5-billion/article14391866.ece">to $5 billion</a> in order to close the market gap with Flipkart. According to news reports earlier this week, it has pumped <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Companies/toJD0xTVmz0Exkuu7wL6vJ/Amazon-pumps-Rs2600-crore-in-India-unit-amid-trade-war-with.html">an additional $386 million </a>(₹26 billion) into its Indian unit this year. The war over who can offer deeper discounts will affect both firms and further investments will likely be necessary. Flipkart’s parent reported a <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/flipkart-revenues-rise-29-losses-swell-68-in-fy17/articleshow/62761811.cms">net loss of ₹87.7 billion</a> for the last fiscal year. In all probability, Flipkart will continue to report losses in the near term, something that Walmart is probably okay with since it’s in it for the long haul. Should the acquisition bear fruit, Walmart could even sell a portion of its stake in Flipkart in the future <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/startup/flipkart-walmart-deal-walmart-executive-doesnt-rule-out-ipo-of-e-commerce-company-in-future-2565649.html">through an IPO</a>. However, it should retain a majority holding. Concurrently, Walmart will continue to operate and more importantly, grow, its wholesale business in India. It plans to <a href="https://retail.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/food-entertainment/grocery/walmart-to-open-50-new-stores-in-india-in-4-5-yrs/64107936">add 50 cash-and-carry stores</a> within the next five years, taking its total Best Price store count to 71.

However, the device is a bit slippery, so I recommend using it with a case to ensure it does not slip out of your hand. You won’t face any issues, whether you are gaming or just browsing social media. <h2>Software and performance</h2>The Vivo V30e runs on Android 14 out of the box with the company’s Funtouch OS 14 on top. The device will get three years of Android updates and four years of security updates. The software support offered by the company is decent for this segment. The V30e has its fair share of bloatware. This includes applications like Amazon, Snapchat, PhonePe, Facebook, LinkedIn and more. While these applications can be uninstalled, the V-Appstore, which is the company’s own app store also sends notifications for app recommendations. In terms of performance, the Vivo V30e is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset coupled with 8GB LPDDR5X of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. While the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset is not a very powerful one, it offers decent performance in this segment. The device can handle multitasking easily. I played Call of Duty: Mobile on the device and it was able to handle the game smoothly, without any stutters. The smartphone is powered by a 5,500mAh battery with 44W fast charging support. The large battery ensures that you do not have to worry about running out of juice during the day. With regular usage, you can get up to two days of battery life out of the device. <h2>Camera</h2>The Vivo V30e comes with a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 50MP primary camera with a Sony IMX882 sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. While the Aura Light helps in capturing decent images even in low light conditions, the device sometimes takes a bit longer to capture the images. The device is equipped with a 50MP selfie camera, which captures good selfies in daylight and low-light conditions. The front camera also supports 4K video recording, making it a good option for content creators. <h2>Verdict</h2>The Vivo V30e is a decent smartphone that comes with a slightly different design, decent hardware and a large battery. Its sleek design and vibrant display make it a good option in this segment.
