<ul><li><keyword id="3143174" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmeasy" source="Orion">PharmEasy</keyword> currently has a workforce of 6,100+ employees, but it is planning to hire more people for its new development centers.</li><li>PharmEasy offers a range of services such as teleconsultation, medicine deliveries, and sample collections for diagnostic tests.</li><li>The company acquired Thyrocare in June 2021, which opened the door for its public listing this year.</li></ul>Online pharmacy company PharmEasy, which is working towards an initial public offering (IPO) soon, is looking to hire over 200 engineers for its new development centers in Hyderabad, Pune and the national capital region surrounding New Delhi. The Mumbai-based startup currently has a workforce of over 6,100 employees. Seven-year old PharmEasy claims that the initiative to launch a new development centre coincides with the increased digital adoption due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The company claims that this increased customer demand has also increased the demand for tech skills across the spectrum. “The new facilities will serve as a significant hub for driving development and innovation,” Abhinav Yajurvedi, chief technology officer (CTO) of PharmEasy. Founded by Dharmil Sheth, Dhaval Shah, Harsh Parekh, Hardik Dedhia, and Siddharth Shah, PharmEasy caters to the chronic care segment and offers a range of services such as teleconsultation, medicine deliveries, and sample collections for diagnostic tests. It operates a business-to-business (B2B) pharma marketplace with 6,000 consultation clinics with 90,000 partner retailers pan India. PharmEasy’s parent company API Holdings became the first Indian startup to acquire a publicly listed company, after it acquired A Velumani-led diagnostics chain Thyrocare Technologies for ₹4,546 crore ($612 million) in June. This acquisition has opened doors for the seven-year-old startup to list on the stock exchange directly. A reverse listing, on the other hand, is acquisition of a private company by an existing public company, so that the private company can bypass the lengthy and complex process of going public. Online pharmacy startup PharmEasy is looking to hire 200 engineers in Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi before the IPO

New Delhi, Dec 3 () The e-pharmacy industry in the country is waiting for the government to come up with regulations for the sector to boost its growth and attract investment, leading players said on Tuesday.
 "We want India to come up with a progressive e-pharmacy regulation. We want that as that would give a lot of clarity and confidence to the sector, whether it is investors, whether it is our business partners and vendors," 1mg Technologies Founder and CEO Prashant Tandon told reporters here.
 The government in August 2018 came out with a draft notification, but it is yet to release the final notification, he said adding that it is taking too long. 
 "For innovation to thrive, we need more pro-active, faster response. We hope the government would speed up its processes and move forward with a clear intent," Tandon said.
 This sector needs a lot of technology and supply chain investments and "we must work together to make sure Indian consumers get the best product at the lowest price through a very efficient supply chain," he added.
 In similar vein, Pharmeasy Co-Founder and CEO Dharmil Sheth said pharma supply chain is one of the categories which has not been using technology to its advantage yet.
 "We need more visibility across the supply chain to meet the demand supply gaps and improve the healthcare outcomes in the country ... We hope the government acknowledges the benefits of digital penetration in this category and empowers every stakeholder by a robust framework and governance module," he added.
 According to the leading players, the e-pharmacy sector is providing quality and affordable medicines to about 50 lakh patients per month across the country. It provides employment to around 30,000 skilled professionals and has the capacity to create huge number of job opportunities. AKT MR

E-pharmacies await govt to release regulations for the sector

<ul class="teaser-list"><li>A report released by consultancy EY predicts Australian university revenue will decline by a further $6 billion in the years leading to 2030.</li><li>It suggests that to survive, the higher education sector will need to abandon international revenue altogether and focus on offering specialised courses to Australian students.</li><li>The pandemic had “exposed the over-reliance on on-campus learning and international students in <keyword id="6355478" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="australia">Australia</keyword>’s higher education system,” head of education at EY Catherine Friday said.</li></ul>Australia’s university sector may never return to its peak pre-2019 levels, a new study has found. New research by consultancy EY predicts the Australian university sector will have to abandon its current funding model based on Commonwealth subsidies and international student revenue, as it faces revenue losses that could decline by a further $5 billion to hit $6 billion by 2030. It also found this could force universities to shed around 50% of non-research staff, along with threatening some institutions with closure or merger. The report, <a href="https://www.ey.com/en_au/government-public-sector/the-peak-of-higher-education" target="_blank">The Peak of Higher Education</a>, is based on interviews with 32 senior figures in Australian and <keyword id="22501" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Zealand">New Zealand</keyword> institutions and suggests that international student enrolments will never return to 2019 levels. It also predicts that on-campus learning will play a diminishing role in most student’s education, even after the current restrictions on in-person lectures and tutorials are lifted. Catherine Friday, EY’s global head of education, said the pandemic had “exposed the over-reliance on on-campus learning and international students in Australia’s higher education system”. “There is so much financial strain in the sector right now and such uncertainty about ongoing income and revenue streams that it’s reasonable to suspect that there might be university closures or some sort of merger activity in the market,” Friday said. The EY researcher said the report’s models for a sustainable future for the sector urged universities to become more “homogenous” and offer similar courses while competing for students. This was because reduced revenue caused by the loss of international students would force institutions to cut back on courses and specialise in specific fields of learning. “For some universities it might mean they will reduce the number of broad generalist degrees that they currently offer,” Friday said. “Everyone trying to do everything is simply unaffordable.” Since the pandemic gutted higher education last year, the country’s university sector has held out hope that at least some students would return in 2021. Since December 2019, there has been a more than 5% decline in enrolments and a 23.2% decline in new students, according to government figures. But with the majority of Australia now under lockdown, including all of <keyword id="61477" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSW">NSW</keyword> until what could be the end of October, it is now highly unlikely international students will be able to reenter the country to study at Australian institutions. Universities Australia has estimated the sector has lost 17,000 jobs since the start of the pandemic, and <keyword id="212104" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Victoria-University">Victoria University</keyword> think tank <keyword id="11866273" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mitchell-institute">Mitchell Institute</keyword> has released modelling suggesting the university sector faces cumulative losses of up to $19 billion over three years due to international border closures. Mitchell Institute education policy fellow Peter Hurley told the Sydney Morning Herald that the <keyword id="16874" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Morrison">Morrison</keyword> government’s recent changes to the funding formula for university places would force universities to reconsider the range of courses they offer. “There is going to be a real plateau in the amount of money that universities are receiving from government for students, so there is just less room to grow in that respect,” Hurley said. However he said it was unlikely any universities would close or merge in the forseeable future.
