Job vacancies for junior associate roles at India’s largest bank: All you need to know

A Delhi consumer forum has directed the <keyword id="13222" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi" source="Orion">SBI</keyword> Cards &amp; Payments Services Pvt. Ltd. to pay Rs 2 lakh to a person here for sending him bill even after his card's expiry and blacklisting him for non-payment of the charges. The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum comprising its president Monika A Srivastava and members Kiran Kausal and Umesh Kumar Tyagi directed the company to pay the amount to M J Anthony, a former journalist, for "deficiency in providing services". The forum noted that the company had blacklisted him in the CIBIL system of the wilful defaulters maintained by the RBI, which resulted in the rejection of his applications for credit cards from another bank where he had maintained regular account for nearly two decades. "This Commission is of the view that the SBI Cards &amp; Payments Services Pvt. Ltd. has been deficient in providing services to the complainant and though the damage/loss occasioned to the complainant in terms of credit rating cannot be measured in terms of money yet punitive damage ought to be awarded against OP (opposite party) therefore, OP is directed to compensate the complainant by paying a sum of Rs 2 lakh as compensation within two months from the date of this order failing which the sum payable would be Rs 3 lakh," the forum said. The forum passed the order on May 20 on Anthony's complaint seeking compensation, claiming that he had requested the company to cancel his card in April 2016 much before its expiry and not to renew it. He did not use the card for any transaction after April 9, 2016 and had destroyed the card according to rules, he said, adding that no payment was due at that time on the card. In September, the complainant received a letter from the company about the cancellation of his card, however, the company continued to send bills relating to the card ignoring his protest e-mails, he said. The bills were to the tune of Rs 2,946 by May 18, 2017 inclusive of late payment charges and penalty, he said. He stated that in the same letter, the company had warned him to pay the bill otherwise it would "have adverse impact on the credit history as maintained by the credit Bureau and may hamper future credit requirement". The company further blacklisted him in the CIBIL system of the wilful defaulters maintained by RBI and he had trouble in getting loans or credit card. During the argument, the company had denied the allegations. However, in an about turn of sorts, economists now expect another 25 basis point rate hike in April when the central bank’s next monetary policy meet is scheduled. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/economists-are-shocked-concerned-and-worried-as-retail-inflation-hits-3-month-high-in-january/articleshow/97900258.cms">Inflation print</a> for January 2023 sprung a surprise, with the consumer price index (CPI) rising to 6.52% while economists expected it to be between 6% to 6.2%. Core inflation edged up to 6.22% in January, from 6.1% in December. This has pushed back the estimates of the economists at <keyword id="2017241" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sbi-research" source="Orion">SBI Research</keyword>, who now believe inflation will cool down to 5% by April this year, as against the previous estimate of March. “Inflation will decline materially and come down to 5% by April 2023. Das said that the overall monetary conditions are still accommodative. Coupled with sticky core inflation, it makes a case for further monetary policy action, he noted. “Adjusted for inflation, the policy rate still trails its pre-pandemic levels,” Das said, adding that we need an unwavering commitment to bring down inflation. “The 25 basis point rate hike is seen as appropriate. Reduction in the size of rate hike lets us evaluate the effect of rate hikes taken so far,” he said. Post the inflation surprise, economists are now coming around to the possibility of another hike come April. “In the absence of any data revisions, the overall inflation trajectory looks heavily skewed to the upside, warranting further rate hikes,” said Kotak Securities. The brokerage said that it will wait to see if the data anomalies observed in the inflation numbers lead to a revision of the inflation print, before revisiting its view on a pause in rate hikes. On the other hand, analysts at Bank of Baroda remain firm in their view that RBI will pause rate hikes for now. “This month and print of the current quarter hold relevance since the RBI would be watchful of the persistence in core and volatility in food inflation to take a call on rates. Economists at SBI Research noted that they are “perplexed” that there is no linkage between the vegetable prices tracked by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, and the CPI data. This, they said, has resulted in an anomaly in the inflation print by at least 26 basis points. The research firm gave an example of the difference in vegetable prices being tracked by the ministry as opposed to what is reflected in CPI data. According to the ministry, vegetable prices fell 10% in January, but CPI data shows a decline of 4% only. “This anomaly is making it a nightmare to predict vegetable prices data,” the research firm noted. Nomura also said in a note that it has noticed a divergence in the headline cereal inflation, and the sum of its components. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Sticky core inflation is sticky" comment="subhead" text="Sticky core inflation is sticky">Sticky core inflation is sticky</cmsannotation> Das has been reiterating his concerns about stickiness in core inflation, but the economists at SBI Research maintain that core inflation has always been sticky. “Core CPI data since June 2014 indicates that stickiness is the normal property of core inflation,” the research firm said, noting that the average core inflation since June 2012 is 5.8%, as compared to the existing core inflation of 6.22%. It added that this was due to a shift in consumer expenditure patterns towards health and education, and gold purchases. While Das wants a meaningful reduction in inflation, economists at SBI Research say that this will have to be achieved only through a reduction in food inflation. However, its unpredictable nature, as observed in the January inflation print, means that RBI’s task is cut out and Das has an unenviable job at hand. Instant loan apps, especially those originating from China have been a menace as the government as well as the <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>), have received several complaints against them. Their proliferation has led to increased cases of cybercrime and also extortion of hapless borrowers. Sharing some safety tips, the SBI suggested that it is always better to check the authenticity of an app before downloading. There are lots of illegal apps that may trap users and siphon off money from their accounts. Customers should not click on suspicious links and discretion should be used to avoid falling for unauthorised apps, the SBI said. Check the app permission settings to secure your data from getting stolen and in case of theft, such matters should be reported to the local police authorities, the bank cautioned further. SBI warns customers against instant loan apps

The largest public sector bank State Bank of India (SBI) is inviting applications for the post of Junior Associates and clerks in customer support and sales team. With this, the bank plans on hiring as many as 8,000 people via recruitment examinations. The registration process has started and the last date to apply is January 26,2020. The applicants will be selected on the basis of the performance in the preliminary and main exam. The candidates who successfully clear the prelims examination can appear for the SBI Clerk Main exam. The preliminary exam is tentatively scheduled in March 2020, followed by the main exam on April 19,2020. The minimum educational qualification required to appear for the exam is graduation in any discipline from a recognised university. "Those who are in the final year of their graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition that, if provisionally selected, they will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before 01.01.2020," said the announcement. While companies in India and around the world are increasingly demanding their employees to return to offices, it looks like at least some of them have decided to set up offices in their homes. “Working from Home is redefining the priorities as households are shifting into digital offices within their own homes in Tier 3 and Tier 4 districts,” the report by SBI said. The report further adds that this has not only led to the growth in loans being faster in T3 and T4 districts, even the average loan sizes have increased much more when compared to Tier 1 and 2 districts between FY19 and FY22. It attributes this growth to an increasing trend of WFH and freelance jobs. Women account for nearly half of the loans in the top 20 districts. In fact, two districts – Dang in Gujarat, and Arwal in Bihar stand out where 86% and 75% of fresh loans were sanctioned to women, respectively. One of the reasons for the growth in UP, specifically, is the launch of the SVAMITVA scheme by the Indian government wherein rural people are given the right to document their residential properties so that they can use their property for economic purposes. Essentially, this scheme enables rural people to document their properties and then use them for obtaining loans and other financial benefits. Mumbai, Jan 13 () The economic slowdown has adversely impacted employment generation in the country as nearly 16 lakh less jobs are projected to be created in FY20 compared to 89.7 lakh fresh jobs in FY19, a report said.
 According to the SBI research report- Ecowrap, there is a decline in remittances in a few states like Assam and Rajasthan, reflecting downsizing of contractual labourers.
 "In FY19, India had created 89.7 lakh new payrolls as per the EPFO data. In FY20, as per current projected this number could be at least 15.8 lakh lower," the report said.
 The EPFO data primarily covers low paid jobs as the salary is capped at Rs 15,000 per month. As per the calculation done by the report, during April-October 2019, the actual net new payroll was 43.1 lakh which annualised comes out to be 73.9 lakh for FY20.
 The EPFO data does not cover government jobs, state government jobs and private jobs as such data have moved to National Pension Scheme (NPS), beginning 2004.
 "Interestingly, even in the NPS category, state and central government are supposed to create close to 39,000 jobs less in FY20 as per current trends," the report said.
 It said a sample of data on remittances by migrant labourers to selected states in the last one year showed that there is a decline in remittances in states like Assam, Bihar, Rajasthan, Odisha and UP.
 "The delay in resolution of cases under bankruptcy proceedings may have prompted companies to downsize their contractual labourers," it said.
 Over the years, migration has been an important livelihood option for both the poor and the non-poor in the country.
 As a result of unequal growth, people from agriculturally and industrially less-developed states migrate to more developed states in search of job opportunities - for example from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the southern part of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan to states like Punjab, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
 For a large number of migrants, New Delhi is a much-favoured destination due to the abundance of job opportunities, the report said.
 "These migrants have been making significant financial contributions to their families in their places of origin," it said.
 The report further said in the last five years, the overall productivity growth has remained relatively stagnant between 9.4 per cent to 9.9 per cent.
 This slow growth in productivity manifests in low wage growth, it said. 
 The report also cautioned the policymakers of such slower productivity growth as it could encourage over-borrowing by corporations and households, which can create a big risk to economies and fiscal systems. HV ANS
