The university has as many as 271 vacant teaching posts — including 157 vacancies for associate professor, four for assistant professor, and 110 for professor. According to the varsity’s official website, the last date to submit online applications is 19 August 2019. The university offers an average compensation between ₹131,400 to ₹ 217,100 per month to associate professors. While the salary bracket for assistant professors and professors is ₹57,00 to ₹ 182,400, and ₹144,200 to ₹ 218,200, respectively. Eligibility: The candidates applying for the post of associate professor should hold a PhD degree in the respective subject with a minimum of 55% marks in the master’s programme and eight years of teaching and research experience. While for the assistant professor posts, candidates must have at least two research papers during their PhD. The professor positions are open to candidates with a minimum experience of 10 years. However, in case of outstanding performers, the work experience will be negotiable. Ten central trade unions on Monday said around 25 crore people will participate in a nationwide strike on January 8 to protest against the government's "anti-people" policies.
 Trade unions INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC along with various sectoral independent federations and associations had adopted a declaration in September last to go on a nationwide strike on January 8, 2020.
 "We expect participation of not less than 25 crore of working people in the forthcoming National General Strike on January 8, 2020, to be followed by many more actions seeking reversal of the anti-worker, anti-people, anti-national policies of the Government.
 "The Ministry of Labour has failed to assure on any of the demands of workers which called a meeting on January 2, 2020. The attitude of the government is that of contempt towards labour as we construe from its policies and actions," the 10 central trade unions (CTUs) said in a joint statement.
 About 60 organisations of students and elected office bearers of some universities have also decided to join the strike with an agenda to raise voice against increased fee structure and commercialization of education, it said.
 The trade unions condemned the <keyword id="8526257" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="JNU-violence">JNU violence</keyword> and similar incidents in other university campuses and expressed their solidarity with students and teachers all over India. The unions also expressed displeasure over no Indian Labour Conference being held since July 2015, codification of labour laws and privatisation of PSUs.
 "As many as 12 airports are already sold out to private hands, 100 per cent sale of Air India is already decided, decision to sell BPCL taken, BSNL-MTNL merger announced and 93,600 telecom workers already thrown out of jobs under the garb of VRS (voluntary retirement scheme)," it added.
 The unions are also against privatisation in railways, corporatisation of 49 defence production units and forced merger of banks.

Meet Rajmal Meena, a security guard from JNU who cleared university’s entrance examination, and is now aiming to become an IAS officer

Delhi Police will not "shy away" in using its options if the five <keyword id="6356383" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="JNU">JNU</keyword> students who resurfaced in the campus fail to cooperate with the investigators, Commissioner B S Bassi today said. 
 
"There is no doubt that seditious speeches and slogans were raised in the event concerned. We also know that some involved in it, who went absconding soon after, have now returned. 
 
"At this point, there is no imminent threat to life and property, for which we are working with patience. For every job we do, our tactics are dynamic," Bassi said. 
 
He further said, "Today, we can afford to wait for them (the five students) to regain some 'sadbuddhi' (better sense) and cooperate with the police." 
 
"If we feel that they are unlikely to abide by the law, we have options available and we will not shy away from using them," the police chief added. 
 
The five JNU students, including Umar Khalid, whom the police were looking out for across cities, resurfaced in the university's campus on Sunday night but the police have not arrested them yet. 
 
In an apparent U-turn in the police's approach in the case, senior officials now say that they are waiting for the students to surrender on their own and also expect the JNU authorities to persuade them in doing so. 
 
Bassi had yesterday said that the final call will be taken by the investigating officer of the case and whether to enter the university's campus or not will be the decision of DCP (South) Prem Nath who is heading the probe. 
 Police had registered a case of <keyword id="6364658" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sedition">sedition</keyword> in connection with the event held at Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, to mark the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict <keyword id="43716" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Afzal-Guru">Afzal Guru</keyword>, in which <keyword id="679055" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="anti-national">anti-national</keyword> slogans were allegedly raised.

Will not shy away from using options if 5 JNU students don't co-operate: BK Bassi

Meet <keyword id="3877859" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="subashini-sankaran">Subashini Sankaran</keyword>, the first <keyword id="244095" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="woman-IPS-officer">woman IPS officer</keyword> to take charge of the security of a Chief Minister. She is guarding Sarbananda Sonowa, the Chief Minister of Assam, India's largest state in northeastern India dealing with not only law and order problems and counter-insurgency, but also communal strife, smuggling, poaching and several such issues. 
 
To be working for the CM of a difficult region is no mean feat. Moreover, ensuring the security of a state's CM is a job with zero tolerance for error. Sankaran is responsible for planning the routes of the CM's travel. She also coordinates with the teams that provide close proximity protection and briefs security personnel. It is a stressful job and her work day often extends to 18 hours. Over everything else, she is an Indian woman breaking stereotypes by leading from the front. 
 
“It was a new thing for everybody, but people slowly adapted to being comfortable about having a lady police officer as the chief minister’s head of security,” Subashini told News18. 
 
Suhasini's journey: From a sociology graduate to taking charge of a CM's security 
 
Hailing from an educated middle-class family, she belongs to Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district. She, however, moved to Mumbai in the 1980s with her parents. 
 
After doing her schooling in Mumbai and finishing her graduation in Sociology from St. Xavier’s College, she joined Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi to pursue her Masters and M. Phil. She wrote her dissertation on women and terrorism, focusing on the suicide bomber squads of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. It gave her an insight into the broader political and sociological situation in India and a nuanced understanding of law and order issues. 
 While in <keyword id="6356383" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="JNU">JNU</keyword>, Subashini started preparing for the UPSC exams. In 2010, Subashini cracked the UPSC Mains examination with rank 243. She went to Hyderabad for her Police Academy training and was finally stationed in Assam. Here, she learnt the basics of Indian policing, handling the physical and mental demands that accompany being a law enforcement officer. 
 
No other member of her family has ever worked for the police; her father was employed in the industrial safety department of a private company, her mother is a homemaker and her sister an entrepreneur in the United States. 
 
Before her current appointment, she worked as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Azara Police Station in Guwahati. Next, she was transferred to Biswanath District, followed by stints in Silchar and Tezpur as Additional Superintendent. While in Biswanath Chariali, Subashini and her team busted a rhino–poaching ring operating out of nearby Kaziranga. 
 
She has an advice for police officers, something she learnt on the job - “Talk when necessary, take firm action when necessary. Lawfully, of course.”

Prof Mehrotra believes the economy will shrink further and which will reduce daily wages in rural areas. People will come to urban cities to find work, but due to a lack of jobs in the market, we will see a lot more beggars on the streets. 25 crore people likely to participate in nationwide strike on Jan 8: Trade unions

<ul><li>As per various exit polls, AAP could win 48-68 of the total 70 seats while BJP is expected to bag anywhere between 11-19 seats. </li><li>None of the exit polls expect Congress to win more than two seats though C-Voter survey says that it could win anywhere between 0-4 seats. </li><li>To form the government, a party should win at least 36 seats which AAP is in a comfortable position, as per exit polls. </li></ul>Bharatiya Janata Party might be making a dent in Aam Aadmi Party’s expected dream run during the <keyword id="1414375" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-assembly-election">Delhi assembly election</keyword>. The exit poll indicates that AAP is expected to win between 53-57 seats. “The BJP and Congress on the other hand could win around 11-17 and 0-2 seats respectively.
