Let me introduce India ka Intelligent SmartPhone-JioPhone,” announced Ambani. "We plan to collect a fully refundable, one-time, security deposit of Rs 1,500 with everyone. From 15th August, 2017, all Indians will have access to the highest quality &amp; quantity, affordable &amp; unlimited data," said Ambani, adding "This is how Jio will end the digital exclusion in India. And this is what I call true digital freedom." The JioPhone will be available from September and the pre-booking will start from August 24. "The JioPhone will be available for user testing in beta from 15th August and for pre-booking from 24th August," said Ambani. Starting August 15, JioPhone will give users unlimited data to feature phone users. New Delhi, Apr 14 () Sector regulator Trai on Tuesday asked all telcos, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio, to provide data on recharge patterns of prepaid users during the lockdown, and other related information.Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has sought response on the issue in 24 hours, sources told .The communication from the regulator has gone to all operators, including state owned telecom companies, sources said, adding that once the response is received, the regulator will finalise its views on the manner in which prepaid benefits should be extended, given that the lockdown has been extended to May 3.The sources said details sought from telcos include the number of subscribers who have benefited from validity extension and talktime credit -- announced recently. JioFiber launches six new quarterly plans, prices start at ₹2,097

<ul><li>Reliance Jio is working on bringing affordable 4G smartphones below ₹3,000 in the country. </li><li>The company wants to speed up its acquisition of existing 2G subscribers from other telcos. </li></ul>Reliance Jio is reportedly in talks with various smartphone makers to introduce budget 4G smartphones in bulk and retail them at around ₹2,000-₹3000. According to a report in <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/reliance-jio-s-new-big-idea-4g-smartphones-at-rs-3000-to-migrate-2g-users-120022601633_1.html">Business Standard</a>, Reliance Jio has approached Lava Mobiles to make these affordable phones. Jio is looking to expand the ecosystem of 4G services by reducing the existing phone prices by half - which now hover between ₹5,000-₹6,000. Reliance wants to repeat its JioPhone success These ‘starter phones’ will help Jio chase its 500 million subscriber target and it’s currently at 370 million. At the same time, Jio has been trying to bring high spenders into its ecosystem, making the shift from 2G to 4G essential. In India which has over a billion mobile users, around over 550 million customers are still on 2G/3G. And, it is not the first time that Jio tried to peddle handsets to ease the transition. In 2017, it introduced its 4G feature phone, which was priced at ₹1,500. The company has sold over 100 million JioPhones since its launch due to the low-cost and 4G support. And they continue to bring in business, even now. Of the 6-9 million subscribers that Jio has been adding every month, over 3 million come from the sale of the JioPhone. The phone is offered for ₹501 when a user exchanges a 2G phone, or at a flat ₹1095 which comes bundled with six months of free calling and data. Jio might cut corners for the smartphone While the ₹1,500 JioPhone helped the telco gain users, its user experience is low with overall build quality and lack of memory. The upcoming budget 4G smartphones may face the same fate if the company cuts corners to cut costs and bring down the price. The phone may have a sub-standard display and poor battery quality. A decent 4G smartphone still costs more than ₹7,000, so it remains to be seen if Jio can bring that price down to under ₹3,000 without any major quality compromises. Not the first time Jio has introduced budget 4G smartphones In December 2015, Jio had introduced its Lyf series of budget 4G VoLTE smartphones as there were limited options in the market that supported 4G VoLTE. Soon after, Jio’s LYF brand entered the top-five smartphone makers in the country. After seeing the success of Lyf smartphones and Jio’s increasing subscribers, other smartphone makers started introducing VoLTE compatible smartphones. Now, 4G VoLTE has become a basic feature of any smartphone launched in the country. While Reliance Jio did scaled up its Lyf brand and hasn’t introduced a new smartphone in a while. But it looks like it will make a comeback in a swankier avatar in 2020. Mukesh Ambani plans to offer ₹3,000 smartphone to hit his 500 million subscriber target

New Delhi, Jun 24 () Reliance Jio would play a key role in the development of the 5G ecosystem in India based on the market dynamics, Reliance Industries said in its latest annual report. On the issue of floor price for mobile services, the company noted that market dynamics have improved in the recent past as reflected by December tariff hikes by operators. The government has also expressed its intentions of conducting the next round of spectrum auctions during the fiscal year 2020-21, it said. "Jio with its 5G-ready network and extensive fiber assets, would play a key role in the development of the 5G ecosystem in India, based on market dynamics," the annual report stated. In his letter to shareholders, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that there are still millions of 2G phone users, who cannot use internet, highlighting urgent need for India to transition fully from 2G to the 4G era and beyond, and underlining the opportunity Jio has in such transformation. "Over the past two years, JioPhone has successfully transitioned approximately 100 million erstwhile feature phone (2G) users to the 4G network," he said. Ambani noted that Jio's success in building technology specifically for India and its ability to proliferate across the country has attracted global technology leaders – Facebook and Microsoft - to forge partnerships with it. Reliance Jio continues to add subscribers at a rate unprecedented in the telecom world with 387.5 million mobile data subscribers (as of March 31, 2020), Ambani said. Describing Jio as a key catalyst in creating the broadband data market in India, he said it is now the number one mobile telecom operator in the country by both adjusted gross revenue (AGR) and subscribers. Reliance Jio is rolling out its state-of-the-art wireline services across homes and enterprises, he said adding all this will help place a strong foundation for offering platform-based digital services. According to the report, Jio connected about one million homes with JioFiber services until March 2020. Ambani further said that rollout of the digital commerce initiative will open up further growth opportunities for the organised retail business, leveraging the strength of consumer and digital platforms. "Reliance Retail and WhatsApp have entered into a commercial partnership agreement to further accelerate Reliance Retail's Digital Commerce business on the JioMart platform using WhatsApp and to support small businesses on WhatsApp," he said. Further, Jio said that market dynamics have improved in the recent past, as reflected by tariff hikes in December 2019, where all the operators revised their tariff plans upwards by up to 40 per cent. "During the year, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has also initiated consultation process on feasibility of establishing a floor price for mobility services in the country," it said, adding that Jio would continue to actively engage with the regulator and industry stakeholders to drive growth for all. On the issue of call connect charges, where interconnect usage charge (IUC) would be reduced to zero with effect from January 1, 2021, Jio said it accordingly introduced a charge of 6 paise/minute on all off-net outgoing voice minutes to pass through the impact of change in regulatory stance on IUC in October 2019. "This has led to a significant improvement in voice traffic mix as misusers of free voice services have left the network and Jio is now a net receiver of IUC. Jio continues to believe that transition to the BAK (Bill and Keep) regime will hasten the adoption of more efficient technologies like VoLTE, which have negligible cost for carrying and servicing essential voice services," RIL said. In the recent months, Reliance Industries has secured over Rs 1.15 lakh crore from global tech investors including Facebook by selling a tad less than a quarter of its digital business and raised Rs 53,124 crore by selling shares to existing investors in the past days.
